Blooming Lily is Blog of the Week 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Liana, who writes a fun blog that presents and promotes the work of independent and talented designers, has just named Blooming
Lily her "Blog of the Week." Liana lives in Hawaii (I am so jealous!) and is one of my daily reads because she is always updating her site Mixed Plate with unique and interesting finds. She is also a talented artist herself and her website On a Friday features beautiful handmade jewelry, accessories and gifts. Thanks so much Liana for recognizing my blog!
On a Friday 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Most people think of the color blue when they think of sapphires, but sapphires actually range in color from deep blue to violet to yellow to orange. And, as you can well imagine, since sapphires in these colors are rarer than the traditional blue, they tend to be more expensive. However, in my humble opinion, well worth the extra cost for the resulting beauty. This absolutely stunning sapphire bracelet by On a Friday
is the perfect example of the luminescent quality of these "off" color sapphires. In this bracelet, the gemstones (all sapphires!), in varying shades and shapes, float on the wrist with eye-catching sparkle and color. At $150, this is priced well under what I have seen sapphires going for in high end jewelry stores. Which is just another reason to shop indie!!
The Nightmare before Christmas 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Most people will tell you that I am a very happy person. I smile a lot, look at the bright side of things, and generally enjoy my life. A "glass half full" sort of girl, if you will. So, I simply cannot explain my fascination with the dolls designed by Beth Robinson of Strange Dolls. Defintely not for children or the squeamish, these misshapen and oddly grotesque dolls are hand made using polymer clays, vintage fabrics, acrylic paint, and, get this, real human hair or teeth. Each piece is absolutely one of a kind, and, during the Christmas
season, she makes these fascinating Christmas ornaments. Now, I am not sure if I can put them on my tree (I have 2 small children), but oh how I want to! (However, that will probably have to wait a couple years until I am sure they won't have nightmares) Beth has received world wide recognition for her art and her dolls are found in galleries and collections around the world. So, I am happy to say that I am not the only person who enjoys these "bea Read more:Nightmare
Treasure Chest 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Boston based jewelry designer Amy J. creates completely unique and one-of-a-kind jewelry designs using found treasures such as beach glass and subway tokens from cities across the U.S. I love the frosty effect of beach glass after being tumbled in the sand and waves, so I am especially drawn to her pieces that feature naturally shaped beach glass set in sterling silver. Ranging from simple pendants and rings featuring a single beachglass bezel to more elaborate pieces such as this gorgeous bracelet comprised of individually bezel-set beachglass "gems" that are linked together, all of her pieces have a beautiful glowy depth to them. I am also loving this transmetropolitan bracelet that features tokens from different cities. Have some old foreign coins or tokens from your travels abroad? Amy will work with you to create your own personalized piece of jewelry. See more of her collection at www.ajensen.com. Read more:Treasure

The Little Brown Dress 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I love dresses. They are versatile, easy to slip on, and perfect for work or going out. I am not necessarily a fan of the "LBD" but I certainly understand its allure to most women. But, instead of black this holiday season, why not try this absolutely stunning dress by David Meister available in rich chocolate brown color. What a fabulous alternative to basic black. Made from sleek matte jersey, this will definitely cling to your curves, so make sure to wear your Spanx underneath this one!! Available at Nordstorm for $298. Read more:Brown
Cotton Chic 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I might be making a generalization here, but, in my experience, it seems to me that most men wish their significant other would dress "nicer." In my case, my husband actually wishes that I dressed more casually. So, in furtherance of this goal, he took me shopping yesterday at the new American Apparel store that opened up here in Cleveland. This is a store that is dedicated to everything t-shirt. Long sleeve, short sleeve, cap sleeve, tank top, turtleneck, v-neck, boat-neck, crew-neck...you get the picture. And, in almost every color you can possibly imagine. Very soft, and reasonably priced (prices start at $15 for a tank top and $25 for a t-shirt), I picked up a few different styles in some cool colors that will look good with both jeans and trousers. So, maybe trousers aren't that casual...but I am taking "baby steps" into this casual dressing thing! Read more:Cotton

The Fourth Day of Christmas 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Four calling birds or this amazing fur collar coat by Custo Barcelona. The contrast between the black wool and the orange collar is so statement making. And, it looks oh so warm. Which, living in Cleveland, Ohio, is essential! Functional and Fabulous. How divine. Modern, clean, and deceptively simple, I love the geometric and architectural aspect of this clever piece. Read more:Sixth

New Features for 2007 1970-01-01 00:59:59 For the new year, I am going to add some new features to this blog. First, because there are just so many cool and interesting websites and blogs on the internet now, I am going to feature a "Cool Site of the Week." This could be any site that I find interesting and not necessarily related to fashion or beauty. So, if you know of a cool site that I should check out...please let me know!! Next, since Cleveland gets such a bad name, I am going to show you that real people of all ages and shapes have style in Cleveland. I am hoping to make this a weekly feature. These will be photos of people that I meet or chance upon who I think have great style.

The Tenth Day of Christmas 1970-01-01 00:59:59 On the tenth day of Christmas
, my true love gave to me: This fabulous salmon pink wrap shirt by designer Lorain Croft. I love the crinkled silk texture (so I don't have to iron it!) and the wrap tie belt is flattering for all shapes. Plus, the bright color is so cheerful and fun. I love the contrasting orange on the collar and sleeves. Read more:Tenth
Cool Site of the Week 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The website that I absolutely must feature as my first "Cool Site of the Week" is where I got this amazing banner to the left. TypoGenerator is this fabulous, fun and totally addictive website which creates a "poster" of your text and images gathered from the web. It is really simple to use and you can control the background, color and text style. These are a few examples of what I came up with for my blog name. I could spend hours playing on this site!!! Question to readers: Should I change my blog title and images to these or stick with what I have?
The Eleventh Day of Christmas 1970-01-01 00:59:59 On the eleventh day of Christmas
, my true love gave to me: This gorgeous resin necklace by Orna Lalo. I am positively obssessed with her work. Her collection ranges from necklaces and earrings to amazing hair accessories and even home goods. Everything is just bursting with color and guaranteed to brighten up any outfit.
The Twelfth Day of Christmas 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Today is the last day of Christmas
...and I am loving this fabulous silk baby doll dress by Nanette Lepore. I love the heart shaped neckline and how the teal green pops against the black and white. I think this dress would look amazing with my Tidal Pool necklace. (I usually don't self promote...but the colors in the necklace are perfect with the dress and the low neckline really calls for a bold piece of jewelry!! Read more:Twelfth
Cleveland Style 1970-01-01 00:59:59 One of my major complaints about SAHM's is the lack of style that often accompanies them. So, I was happy to see this SAHM at the grocery store looking casual yet still fashionable. Jeans, layered t-shirts, corduroy blazer and really cute boots that looked comfortable too. SAHM's, take note. It takes just as much time to throw on an outfit like this as sweatpants!! Read more:Cleveland

Keeping Warm 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This absolutely amazing 100% Scottish cashmere knitted pashmina scarf by Isla comes in some of the most deliciously bright colors, but I love this shocking pink color the best! I just want to wrap myself up in it! Although the weather has been unseasonably warm here in Cleveland so far, I know that winter is coming and this would be so perfect to keep me warm while still looking utterly fashionable and fabulous.
Five Things You Didn't Know About Me 1970-01-01 00:59:59 There's an internet memo circulating called "five things you didn't know about me'. Here's how it works:1) someone tags you,2) you post five things about yourself that you haven't already mentioned on your blog,3) you tag people you'd like to know more about I was tagged by Rebecca of the Space Between My Peers, and I agree with her that I usually don't do this sort of thing, but I thought it would be nice to know a little something about the people who's wonderful blogs I read, other than their good taste in indie designers. So, without further ado...Here are 5 things you probably don't know about me:1) I have an identical twin sister who lives less than one mile away from me.2) I am fluent in Dutch (my parents are Indonesian-Dutch and immigrated to the States from Holland 46 years ago).3) I am a speed reader4) I am addicted to Sudoku5) I am on a spending moratorium, so all my posts until I get my debt gets paid down are being added to my "wish lish" (Sorry all indie
Cool Site of the Week 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Nole Style and Beauty is my choice for this week's "Cool Site of the Week." Truly, it is one of the most beautiful sites that I have come across in a long time. I feel like I am looking at a fashion magazine. The images and graphics are really breathtaking and it is amazingly easy to navigate. The focus of Nole is the promotion of independent design in fashion, jewelry and beauty. The website features articles, reviews and contests, as well as individual pages dedicated to up-and-coming indie designers. There is also going to be an on-line beauty magazine called Nole Mi which is scheduled to launch in February 2007. Be in the know and check out this site!
Ethereal Jewels 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I first heard about Vilaiwan jewelry a while back, and was taken with the images as much as the jewelry itself. A native of Thailand, designer Polthakorn Viboonviriyawond (called JoJo by friends and family) creates stunning, almost sculptural, necklaces from beautiful stones, pearls and crystals. Definitely not for the meek or shy, all of his pieces are strong and sizeable and meant to be worn as statement pieces. From his current collection, I am loving this chunky blue quartz necklace and this mother of pearl necklace. Worn by painted and somewhat eerie looking models, these necklaces are substantial and luxurious. These are truly stunning pieces of adornment. Check out more of his collection at www.vilaiwan.com. Cleveland Style 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I am a firm believer that pregnant women should flaunt their new shape rather than hide it. With all the cute pregnancy clothing out there now, there is just no excuse to be wearing overalls, your husband's t-shirts, or tent dresses. All of them should be permanently banned from a pregnancy wardrobe. I came across Morgan here, an office manager, who is 6 months pregnant. I thought she looked fabulous. Full leg grey pants, a black fitted shirt and a really cute sequined scarf/belt. Simple, still elegant. What a cute way to flaunt her new shape! Read more:Cleveland

Resort Wear 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Since I am more of a fashion observer than a fashion insider, I usually don't post about the Spring and Summer lines in the Fall like the major magazines do. I feature items that I want to wear now. But, I just finalized plans our plans for a week in the Riveria Maya (leaving in 3 weeks...YEAH!), so I am in a resort wear sort of mood. I love this cool two piece look from Belgian based designer F.Egidio. The exaggerated wide-legged trousers are totally wearable and the sleeveless print shirt looks lightweight and laid back. Perfect for a drink by the poolside bar after a day in the sun or for walking around the local town. Read more:Resort
