Flossie the Flirt - A hui hou aku 2007-08-15 21:34:41 Hurricane Flossie - aloha - See ya later! Dental Flossie has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and the High Surf Advisory has been canceled for the East & South Shores of Paradise. The increase in surf at the top surf breaks will be up to head high range for another day or two. Victory at sea conditions produced by this combo of residual energy from Flossie the Flirt and the stronger Tradeswell, is causing no threat to all the Hawaiian Islands.
Poor/bad visibility will likely persist as moisture, clouds and instability hang around the area for most of tonight. All should subside, leaving small shearing and clearing plus better than average visibility for Thursday and Friday night. Upper level winds are going to switch to light easterlies, which should result in excellent weather over the weekend for all of Paradise.
Flossie took a Peek at Paradise, but realized Paradise is too tough with its mountain ranges and tropical inversion.

Come Visit Diamond Head for the History, Beaches and Surf 2007-08-07 11:43:58 The most famous volcanic crater in the world is Diamond Head, located on the South-east Coast of O’ahu at the end of Waikiki overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Diamond Head is a crater that has been extinct for 150,000 years. The crater is 3,520 feet in diameter with a 760-foot summit. There are two sets of stairs, one with 99 steps and the other, 76 steps. There is also a 225-foot unlit tunnel.
The Diamond Head hike is classified as easy to moderate but is certainly worth the view of the entire South-east side of the island, from Waikiki all the way to Molokai!
The current name came was given to the crater by British sailors in the 1800’s. When they first saw the crater at a great distance, the calcite crystals in the lava rock appeared to glimmer in the sunlight. The sailors mistakenly thought there must be diamonds in the soil.

Peek Into The Barrel of Paradise The Hawaiian Triple Crown 2007-07-24 21:00:43 Come November, everything changes on the North Shore of Oahu. The windy gutless summer chop-hops are forgotten, and the occasional butt-wiggler becomes extinct and real men rise from the ashes.
Pro surfing finishes up its final heat of the season on Hawaii’s North Shore. While it doesn’t offer the most points or money, the HawaiianTripleCrown
showcases what surfing has always been about — man against the sea.
It is fitting that the birthplace of surfing provides the culmination for the world tour. Three Hawaiian events have combined to form the Triple Crown of Surfing. The venues have remained the same — Haleiwa, Sunset Beach, and Pipeline. Only The Pipeline Masters carries World Championship Tour status while the others are power turns and tube rides for qualifiers who dare the power.
The Hawaiian Surfing Events, while not always playing a vital role in determining the world champion, invariably decide the fate of many a career. More than that Read more:Paradise

Koolau Mountains on Oahu 2007-09-22 12:21:39 Koolau means “windward” in the Hawaiian language. The Koolau mountains today climb high into the clouds and divide Oahu’s windward side between the leeward side. Scattered down the leeward slopes and valleys are where most of Honolulu’s residential neighborhoods are located such as Pacific Heights, Palolo, Manoa, and Niu Valley to name a few. On the windward side of the Koolau mountains, clouds collect from the trade winds so brief rain showers are prevelant all day in Kaneohe, Haiku, Kahaluu, and Waimanalo town.
There is a beautiful memorial park located on the Windward side of Oahu called the Valley of the Temples. It is an immense region of cultivated fields, with steady colorful hills at the base of the Koolau mountains overlooking the towns of Kaneohe and Kahaluu. Thousands of stones and flowers are placed at each grave, where many religious denominations of all the Hawaiian Islands are laid to rest. Tourists and family members pay their respects
Diamond Head Windsurfing 2007-09-21 14:02:01 Windsurfing on Oahu has become a popular sport in the last decade, particularly Diamond Head Beach where the strong trade winds blow parallel to the beach line and the waves are ideal for long and exciting rides. Lately, the Euros and kite surfers seem to think they own Diamond Head Beach as they have little regard for surfers and tourists with their gear blocking walkways and attitudes. Remember windsurfers, when you set sail out at Diamond Head, be sure to watch where other windsurfers are riding to avoid the shallow reef areas and stay away from the surfers who have the right of way. I’ve seen plenty of times the “I can do a flip” windsurfer jumping waves only to crash on top of an innocent wahine or angry surfer in the lineup. So visiting windsurfers you may want to tone down your aggressive style and remember the “rules of the road” in the water: The slower, less manueverable vessels (surfer, bodyboarder, swimmer, etc.) have the right of way - ALWAYS! Hitting so
Ala Moana Beach Park 2007-09-18 01:15:31 The high rise hotels and condominiums of the Ala Moana area overlook the 77 acre Ala Moana Beach
Park and are walking distance to the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The Ala Moana Shopping Center pictured below is the largest shopping center in Hawaii, with over 265 shops, restaurants and services. Sears, Liberty House, and Neiman Marcus are just a few of the fine depatment stores you will find when you visit the Ala Moana Shopping Center. Ala Moana is minutes away from Waikiki and downtown Honolulu, Oahu. Magic Island, the penninsula oceanfront park pictured below, is a local favorite public beach on Oahu.
With plenty of famous surf breaks (Ala Moana Bowls, Bumbura’s, Tennis Courts, Concessions, Secrets, Kewalos, Baby Haleiwas, Kaisers) and a family safe area for all to enjoy, make Ala Moana your next stop when visiting the islands of paradise.

Labor Day thru Thanksgiving In Paradise 2007-09-03 14:37:00
Labor Day is often known as a day of relaxation in the Islands of Paradise
. Compared to the May 1 Labor Day celebrations in most countries: parades, speeches or political demonstrations are out and picnics, barbecues, fireworks, water sports, and concerts are in. Families with school-age children take their last chance to travel to Hawaii before the end of summer. Most locals and tourists view it as the last weekend for parties before returning to school.
The NCAA football teams play their first games the weekend of Labor Day, with the University of Hawaii Warriors kicking off an awesome 2007 season with a 63 - 6 home opener. Go Bows!
In addition, the days get shorter, the weather in Hawaii turns to cool nights and perfect sunny days, and the cheapest time to travel to all the Islands of Paradise is during the Fall months - September, October, November.
