Shuttle Lands Safely 2007-08-21 13:40:11 The space shuttle Endeavour landed safely on earth on Tuesday at 12.32 pm Et. Even though the shuttle landed safely it was not without drama. A peice of foam fell off during liftoff and once made a 3 inch gash in the tiles. After inspection NASA determined that it was safe for reentry. Endeavor also had to come home one day early due to hurricane Dean and the fear that it would hit Houston, TX where mission control is for NASA. Even after it became clear that Dean posed no threat NASA still decided to bring the crew home early.
The crew made a total of four space walks on this trip. They also replaced a new truss segment to the space station, replaced a failed gyroscope and delivered about 5,000 lbs worth of supplies. This flight spanned 13 days and 5.3 million miles. the next shuttle flight is slated for liftoff in late October

A Camera for the Miners 2007-08-26 18:11:25 Although there has been no life detected in the mine that collapsed in Utah the search for the miners will continue. Federal officials say that a bore hole will be drilled and a camera will be inserted into the mine to search for the lost miners. This camera is similar to the one used to search for people in the wreckage after 911. The families of the miners are excited by this after previous reports that there probably wouldn’t be any more searches done for the miners. previous holes have found that any pockets may be too small for anyone to have survived but that has not deterred the families hope. I sincerely hope that this attempt to find out for sure if the miners are still alive will be a success.

Noriega Will be Sent to France 2007-08-28 13:52:30 Manuel Noriega will be available to the French for extradition on September 9, after he has served his time in America for a 1992 drug trafficking conviction. Manuel, age 73, is the former dictator of Panama and has been held in the U.S. since troops stormed his house in 1989. Noriega has stated that he wanted to be sent back to his home country but France
has said that they want him to go on trial for laundering over 3 million dollars of drug money through French banks.
Manuel and his lawyer fear that he will be treated as a regular criminal, and not as a POW like he was in America. However, France has assured the U.S. that Noriega will be treated as a POW when he gets to France. Frank Rubino, Noriega’s lawyer, said that he will likely appeal and that “You haven’t heard the end of this.”

Google Offers 20 Million for Moon Landing 2007-09-13 16:06:52 Google Inc. and X Prize Foundation have announced that they will offer a 20 million dollar prize to any private company that can get a robotic rover to the moon. That’s right, 20 million dollars. That sounds like a lot of money but the private companies have a list of tasks to complete that will not be cheap.
The companies that compete must secure their own launch vehicle for the rover. The rover must land safely on the moon and make a trek of 400 meters(1312 feet). While the rover is making its trek on the moon it must take high definition video, self portraits and panoramic views of the moon and earth. The rover must also be able to transmit this information back to earth.
Companies have until 2012 to receive the full 20 million. If it is not done by 2012 then the prize drops to 15 million by 2014. Companies may also receive bonuses of up to 5 million for going above and beyond the minimum requirements.

McDonald’s Worker Arrested for Salty Burger 2007-09-10 10:42:48 Kandra Bull, a worker at the McDonald
’s in Union City, GA, was arrested on Friday for putting too much salt on an officer’s burger. The burger, he said, was so salty that it made him sick. Kendra spent the night in jail and could be facing more charges as the investigation unfolds. Bull said that she accidentally spilled the salt on the burger and told her manager about it. Another co-worker of hers tried to “thump” the salt off and then served it to the officer.
Kendra could possibly face charges of negligence for serving the hamburger “without regards to the well-being of anyone who might consume it.” She has been working at the McDonald’s for five months and wonders why the officer continued to eat the burger if it was too salty. Bull also claims that she ate one of the hamburgers with the salt on it during her break and it did not maker her sick.
