Many sites on the net now add a Favicon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon) to their website . It's a small image next to the browsers address bar that indicates your website. It's especially useful when your site gets bookmarked, because the favicon will show in the bookmarklist of your guest. Loading webpages is something you want to do fast. There are many popular webbrowser s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webbrowser) out there that all have a different type of handling with webpages. The two webbrowsers with the biggest market share, Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) and Microsoft Internet Explorer (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/) can be tweaked for speed. Your webpages will now load up to 4 times faster! It's easy and the changes are made within a few minutes. The best free games: First Person Shooters (FPS)
2007-08-25 08:53:46
A First Person Shooter (FPS) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_person_shooter) game can be a little bit addicting, but it's a nice timekiller. Many will know FPS's from Unreal Tournament (http://www.unrealtournament3.com/), Quake (http://www.quake4game.com/), Counter Strike (http://www.counter-strike.com/), Half Life 2 (http://half-life2.com/) etc. I created a list of the best free FPS-games that you can find on the net. Some of these games are out-dated, others are still in development, but all are fun to play. If there's any game missing from the list, please feel free to post them in the comments. Enjoy fragging and make some nice headshots.

Microsoft Tafiti: A Silverlight based search engine
2007-08-24 05:25:37
A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/) launched Silverlight (http://silverlight.net/). It had to be the opponent of Adobe Flash (http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/). I have to admit, I was really curious what this Silverlight could do, if you can really think you can just "bump off" Flash from their number 1 position (http://www.adobe.com/products/player_census/images/stats.gif) on the net. I tried Tafiti (http://www.tafiti.com/) (Also from Microsoft) to test this new Silverlight. It's a Silverlight driven search engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine). As expected, it really looks beautiful. But is it really that useful? I don't think so.

Coolest player for CD and MP3
2007-08-14 05:08:30
In these days, almost everyone has an iPod (http://www.apple.com/itunes/), a Creative Zen Vision: M (http://www.creative.com/products/mp3/zenvisionm/) or any other type of MP3 Player (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mp3_player ). It almost let's your forget the early days when people were walking around with a Portable CD Player (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_cd_player). I accented the word almost, because designer Yong-Seong Kim didn't forget his CD's and designed this nice DMP (Dual Music Player). Me, as an music addict and a person who loves eye candy and well designed high tech stuff, loves to see things like this. Don't dare to say that you wouldn't one of these;

Tips to shrink the Windows directory to create space
2007-08-13 06:59:06
If you don't have enough space on your PC anymore and you don't want to spend money (yet) on a new harddrive, try cleaning up your Windows directory. Windows has a lot of junk that you would probably never use, so why not delete it. Warning: Be careful what you do. The folders where you'll be cleaning up are indeed part of Windows. These tips will only show which files and folders you can delete without touching the core files of Windows. Deleting any files is at your own risk. This has been tested on Windows XP Pro Final and SP1 (Not home,...

Synchronize AVI audio and video
2007-08-13 05:55:59
Ever downloaded a nice movie from the internet (Bad you (http://www.mpaa.org/)), or didn't correctly synchronize your audio and video when creating your own family video's? Personally, I think there is nothing more annoying than a video where the audio is behind, even if it is for one second. So here's a small how to, to get your sync back so that you'll fully enjoy the movie. Get your bag of popcorn ready!

Poker: Pair of Aces, Pair of Aces, Pair of Kings
2007-08-28 09:32:17
For those who like to play a game of Poker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker), will know that the chances of getting a pair of Aces is relatively small in the Texas Hold 'em (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_hold_%27em) style. This also counts for the online Pokerrooms such as PKR. (http://pkr.com/) This video has captured one of the rarest moments of Poker: One pair of Aces is one players hand, the other pair of Aces in another players hand an a pair of King's in the third players hand.

Coolest portable player for DVD using flexible OLED screen
2007-09-21 15:47:26
Even though the battle between the two formats that want to follow up DVD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD), naming Blu-ray (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluray) and HD-DVD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDDVD), is still going on, doesn't mean that the DVD is already kicked out of the market. This is, if designers such as Yeon-shin Seung keep on making concepts like this one. Here's the coolest DPD (portable DVD player ) concept that I've ever seen.

2007-09-20 15:43:11

Making comments in your source code
2007-09-20 11:29:21
Commenting is absolutely necessary when programming. It's useful to you because you won't forget what you were doing or thinking at that time. But it's expecially useful for others because they'll know how to work with your code. Every programming language has it's own way of making comments, which can be very annoying. Never had that you were making Java comments on your HTML page? Here's a small list of some programming languages with their way of commenting. Alltough CSS, HTML and MySQL aren't real programming languages, I posted them in this list because it can be useful for webdesigners.

It's the combination of three characters that together form an emoticon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticon). And yes, it's his birthday today (19th of september (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_19)), so let's congratulate him all with his 25th birthday!

Absolute Beauty & Raw Power: Lamborghini Reventón & BMW X6
2007-09-17 15:43:11
First off, let's make one thing clear: This is not an autoblog and it'll probably never will be. This for the simple reason that I don't have much affection with cars. Exeptions are made when the cars are new and have a beautiful high-tech looking design, because that last thing is what I like. Another exeption is when the car has enormous power (for example the Bugatti Veyron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron)). Well, what a coincidence: This week, on the autoshow of Frankfurt (DE) (http://www.iaa.de/), two leading carmaking brands showed off their new cars. I'm talking about the beauty of the Lamborghini Reventón...

Stupid or genius? Be a smartass on school with funny answers

What do you do if you haven't studied for a certain exam? Would you skip the exam or would you go and try to make the best out of it? Here's a list of students that were very creative with their answers . Maybe something to do on your next exam. What do you think? Is this stupid or simply genius ? There's a small fine line between them both. There's one thing for sure: It's hilarious and I wished I would have such a creative mind.

Create a mailingform for your website using only HTML
2007-09-07 07:41:32
Sometimes readers of your website want to contact you. If you don't have server side scripting knowledge (PHP (http://www.php.net/), ASP (http://www.asp.net/), JSP (http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/) etc.) or your webhost doesn't have server side scripting support (if you have a free host), you can't use a webform and you'll probably go for the next solution:Posting your mailaddress on the site <a href="mailto:user[at]provider.com">webmaster</a>. This is not recommended because spambots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spambot) are designed to follow those URL's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL). Additionally, this type or URL opens an external mailing program which can be very annoying for your readers. Here is the solution: Create a mailingform using only HTML....

The best 10 minutes of internet videos
2007-09-28 09:22:25
Here's a nice little time killer that I stumbled. It's a video containing a 10 minute compilation of different kinds of internet videos . This saves you a lot of time, instead of going to Break (http://break.com/), Yourdailymedia (http://www.yourdailymedia.com/) or any other fun video website, just watch this. For those who watch a lot of those internet video's (like me), it should bring back memories.

Blog against Abuse: E-mail abuse
2007-09-26 17:18:02
Today, the 27th of September (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_27), is a day to remember. BlogCatalog (http://www.blogcatalog.com/) 's Blogging for a Great Cause Challenge (http://www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/you-can-be-a-part-of-blogging-history) has launched. A while ago I posted about this phenomenon (http://www.marcofolio.net/other/bloggers_unite_-_blog_against _abuse.html) and today it's there: Bloggers around the globe will blog against abuse. Here's my submission to try to make an end to abuse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abuse). Everybody unite to make an end to the most common form of internet abuse: Spam.

Does Blogrush's blogosphere work?
2007-09-24 15:28:08
A few days ago I posted an article how to boost up your traffic and get more readers on your blog for free (http://www.marcofolio.net/tips/boost_up_your_traffic_and_get_more_readers_on_your_blog_for_free.html). Here's an article that'll make you think again about BlogRush (http://www.blogrush.com/r13766501). Does it really work? For me it did: It got a couple of more readers on my blog and have more visits than before. I'm not writing this article to get more BlogRush users. I just write about the up- and downsides about the service and give you some tips. Now it's up to you to decide whether or not to use it.

Hiding email addresses from spambots using CSS
2007-09-23 06:40:27
Nobody likes to receive spam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam). There are several ways to avoid your email address (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email) found by a spambot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spambot). For example you could use HTML character entities, Javascript, CAPTCHA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA) etc. It just makes the address readable for humans and not for spambots. Some of those techniques work better then others, but here's a new way of hiding your mail address. Simply by using CSS (http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/) Too bad that there's just one big catch when using this technique: It doesn't work on Internet Explorer (IE) (http://www.microsoft.com/ie/) (yet). This is because IE doesn't support CSS generated content (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/generate.html), something...

Books vs Technology
2007-09-23 05:44:07
In these days technology is everywhere. Laptops, cellphones, the television etc.; It has become part of our lives. Most people use Google (http://www.google.com/) or Wikipedia (http://wikipedia.org/) as a good information source, but you shouldn't forget the "old" way of searching for information: Books . I have to admit: When it comes to loyalty and stability, technology isn't such a good friend as a book. A book will never let you down. That fact is powerfully illustrated in the next advertations.

Ultimate Photoshop Design Resources
2007-09-30 06:29:41
There's no doubt that I like to design. Next to coding, I also love to edit photos, designing websites etc. My personal favorite tool to achieve this, has to be Adobe Photoshop (http://www.adobe.com/go/photoshop/). Next to a good tool, you'll need some good resources. Fonts, Plug-ins such as Brushes and Textures, Stock photos can help you tremendously when designing. Here's a list of my personal favorite photoshop design resources. Fonts, Stock Photos, Patterns, some Textures and Inspiring sites do not require Photoshop. Also, always check the compatibility of the plug-in with your software; Don't download Photoshop CS3 brushes when you're using Photoshop...
