Block ad-/spyware/popups without installing software
2007-11-26 10:16:10
Do you also hate ad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware)-/spyware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyware)/popups (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop-up_ad)? I guess most people will answer that question with a "Yes". There is many (free) software on the market that will get rid of any of this (Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/), Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.com/) etc.). The Firefox plug-in AdBlock (http://addons.mozilla.org/addon/10) does help a lot too. But what if you don't want to install any software or have Firefox? Here's a small trick that will help you to block any ad-/spyware/popups without installing software. This trick will work in Windows XP, I don't know if it works on Windows Vista.

15 stunning motion typography videos
2008-03-05 06:18:09
Motion typography (or kinetic typography) refers to the art and technique of expression with animated text. Expressing yourself through animated words with graphics can be really convincing and cool to see. Flying, floating, growing, expanding, turning characters is what you'll see in the next minutes. I've selected 15 very nice motion typography movies. Some are more breathtaking than others, but they're all outstanding. They all know how to use typography very well and it'll be a joy for your eyes, although some will be really fast. You can get a massive design inspiration kick just by watching these videos . I wouldn't mind if real film starters or music videos in the future will be like this. If you want to create such a movie on your own, you can try Adobe After Effects () or SWiSH Ma

mfBlank: External link recognition with icon suffix
2008-03-02 15:17:21
If you have a website, one of the main things you want to do is keeping your users to stay. That's why, when you link to an external website, most people will add the attribute target="_blank" (new window) to the link. This method can be pretty time consuming, especially when you're not using a WYSIWYG editor. For more user friendly links, you could also add a suffix icon to show a new window will open. mfBlank does all this work for you! It recognizes outgoing links and adds the target="_blank" and an icon automatically. This way, you'll make sure to keep your visitors on your site. The script is very small, but can be really useful for your website. Are you tired of placing the target=_"blank" attribute to all links on your Joomla! website? mfBlank is your solution and it automatic

Add a webclip icon for easy iPhone access
2008-02-29 10:49:35
Today, I got my own iPhone . Big thanks to my girlfriend who knew someone that had a spare. Now you might think: "Why does he get one from someone else instead of buying one in the shops"? There's a very simple reason for that: The iPhone isn't released in Europe (yet). The iPhone, like many other smart phones, can connect with the internet. What if you want the user to have a nice, fancy button for easy & fast access to your website? This is where the Webclip kicks in. Remember my tutorial on how to create a favicon for your website ()? A webclip is like a favicon for the iPhone & iPod touch and it'll look very professional.

mfDockMenu: A fisheye effect for your Joomla! menu
2008-02-20 02:10:28
If you're using a Mac () or used one in the past, I'm pretty sure you'll know (and love) the dock menu. The fish eye () (or fisheye) effect , zooming in and out the objects, is really cool. I created a module for Joomla ! () 1.0.x and Joomla! () 1.5 that allows you to add such a dock menu to your website. It's called mfDockMenu and can be used to increase the Web 2.0 value of your website and to give it some more eye-candy. Get ready for a very cool menu on your website. Use mfDockMenu and impress your visitors with this beautiful menu. The script is build on the great CSS Dock Menu (-dock-menu/) from N.Design. Graffiti art to boost your inspiration
2008-03-12 16:22:25
Graffiti () (or spray paint) often regarded by others as unsightly damage or unwanted vandalism. But some times, the boring wall is supplied with a true piece of graffiti art, making it a joy for the eyes. A new game from Atari, Getting Up (), is based on tagging. I made a collection of pictures showing these fine spray paint creations. By looking at them and studying the details, you could boost your (Photoshop) design inspiration. If you're not in to design, just sit back and enjoy this amazing form of art. Please take note that I'm not showing any graffiti tags () or space spray paint () in this article. Those can be pretty inspiring too.

Dropbox: SVN for the regular folks
2008-03-14 11:38:10
Subversion ((software)) is used to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation. When I'm working with a project team at school, we're working with Tortoise SVN (). This SVN application is very useful to share files & folders in a Windows shell. If another team member screws up your source code, you can easily revert to a previous version. It really looks like the Time Machine on Mac OSX (). The only downside to this, is that SVN can be pretty hard setting up. You'll need to have knowledge about SSH () and understand UNIX (). Most people don't have this knowledge and that's where Dropbox kicks in. Simply drag your files to your shared folder on your computer and everyone who you invite will be able to share the files. This way, you ca

It was as if the website knew where I came from. I wanted to know to code behind this. I did some research and found out how you can find the referring website with a PHP variable. The mfReferral Joomla! module () uses this technique too. Check where your visitors came from & give them a nice, personal message. This way, you'll have a more interactive & personal site. By doing this, you can kindly ask your visitors to do something, like give you a digg when they came from Digg.com. Ask them if they found what they were looking for, if they came from Google. Here is a "clean" version of the script, that you
