2007-10-12 08:40:03
This article is for all gamers out there, or for the people who have some spare time in the weekend. A couple of days ago I posted about The Crysis open Beta event (http://www.marcofolio.net/games/react_fast_crysis_open_beta_event.html). All keys are given away, only subscriber keys remain at this moment. But don't worry: If you're one of those people that don't have a key to play Crysis, I suggest you could play one of the following demos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_demo). A friend of me tipped me about these games (thanks!) as they are just released in the past couple of days. I'm talking about the following games: Call...

It's a commercial where you see all kinds of bouncing balls going down a road with a nice tune on the background. The newer Bravia commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X_vAzixa6s) is a little les known, but still as exciting to watch. You'll see all kinds of paint exploding and coloring an old appartement. Now the Sony Bravia has a new commercial and this one is...

Cool light show on water using LEDs
2007-10-11 07:14:24
A LED (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-emitting_diode) light is used a lot these days. Although you see them everywhere, I think you didn't see them under these sircomstances. Designer Seung-Jin Lee has created a LED artwork that is floating just above the water . The LEDs are embedded within tubes, allowing it to be water resistant. A computer has control over the LEDs. This way, you can define different patterns in different colors with light.

StumbleUpon for Dummies
2007-10-05 08:11:47
I have to admit that I'm a little bit addicted to StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/). Once I start clicking the "Show me next page" button, I can hardly stop stumbling the internet. With me, there are many other SU users having the same problem. It's way to much fun to browse the net with SU. For those people that are not familiar with StumbleUpon, get it now and browse the internet with it. I've created a flowchart for the "dummies" in the world of StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/), but also for the SU users right now. Have fun stumbling.

20 Proxy sites to browse the net anonymously
2007-10-04 03:33:53
There are several reasons why you want to browse the internet anonymously . The most common reason is that when you're browsing the net, you'll leave a calling card on every website where you're from, what webbrowser you're using, what computer you use and more details. For some people this is reason enough to browse the internet hidden under a proxy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy _server). These servers will hide your details so that you'll be sure nobody will find out who you are. Additionally, these sites can be used to unblock sites such as MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/), YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/) and other sites that are blocked...

Create a hidden watermark in images
2007-10-18 10:22:01
Many websites don't want their images to be copied. The little "right-click-javascript-block" doesn't help a lot, since everybody knows how to use the "print screen" button. There is only one way to keep images yours: Adding a watermark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watermark) to it. To protect their images, they add a line over te image with the name or ULR of the website. Advanced Photoshop users will know how to work their way around this watermark. I'll show another way of watermarking that is a little but more subtle but way more fun. Look at the image above. Looks like a nice place...

Popping bubble wrap: Useless fun

Feel free to admit that you're one of those people. Some designers have taken good advantage for this habit. Others know how to make something really cool with bubble wrap.

HTML and images in your Gmail message
2007-11-01 06:40:20
Google's (http://google.com/) mailing service (Gmail (http://gmail.com/)) has a build in rich text formatter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Text_Format). The options (https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=8260) of this text formatter are restricted. You can't add tables (http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/tables.html) or images (http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_images.asp) to your email. In this article I'll explain how you can add such images, tables etc. to your Gmail message. This way, you can give more attention to your email, making it better to read or to promote something. You simply have to add HTML (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML) to your email.

AJAX-style image loading using CSS
2007-11-04 13:47:11
AJAX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AJAX) let's you show a nice loader when doing a XMLHttpRequest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMLHttpRequest). It's great for the visitor, because it can see that something is loading. Bad thing for the web developer is, is that AJAX is hard to learn. So here's a small little CSS trick for some great user experience, making it look like you made an AJAX loader for images. You can implement this on a web page with an image/photo gallery or to a page where you have to load big images, like wallpapers. It's very easy to set-up and implement to your site. This technique doesn't work with any form of AJAX. It just emulates the style of loading, giving the visitor and indicator that there is activity going on.

2007-11-13 09:22:57
As I told you in one of my previous articles (http://www.marcofolio.net/reviews/love_from_social_bookmarking_sites.html), too many visitors on your website can cause it to go offline. But how can you optimize your website, keeping it online for as long as possible, making it less bandwidth consuming, without upgrading to a better host? Here are some tips on how to do this. I'm pretty happy with my host (http://one.com/), offering unlimited bandwidth for a low price. These tips are for those people that do have a bandwidth limit on their weblog or website.
