Change in work habits of Pinoy nurses causes slump in demand 2007-08-17 10:09:00 THE decline in the demand
for Filipino nurses
abroad is caused more by a change in the working attitude of the latest batch of nursing professionals rather than the board exam cheating controversy. “Nurses in the Philippines now are no longer of the same quality as the nurses five to 10 years back,” said Dr. Henry Seno, president of the American Dream Review Institute Inc. (Amdream). He said 40 percent of Filipino nurses in the United States, despite receiving an average salary of $8,000 to $10,000 a month, “do not show up for work.” “They literally do not report to the hospitals, especially those with immigrant status. Those who report act as if they are not there because they’re busy doing other things,” he said in a press conference yesterday at the Casino Español de Cebu. While there are “hardworking” nurses, many of them lack the hands-on experience and a good grasp of educational background which should have been provided by the academe, he said. New CHEd chief dared: Get rid of low-grade nursing colleges 2007-08-15 07:36:00 The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) has urged the new chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), former Socio-Economic Planning Secretary Romulo Neri, to immediately close down substandard nursing schools, "in order to protect the hopes and dreams of hundreds of thousands of aspiring nurse practitioners and their families.""We are definitely counting on Mr. Neri to take decisive and resolute action against deficient nursing colleges
that have opportunistically proliferated on account of the growing number of high school graduates wanting to take up the nursing course," TUCP president Democrito Mendoza said."Nursing institutions that collect sky-high tuition, yet fail to provide adequate instruction to students, are rotten. They are just as rotten as the preneed companies that take contributions, but fail to deliver on their promise to pay for the schooling of a planholder’s son or daughter," Mendoza said.Low-grade nursing schools "deserve to be closed down
Add structure to your days 2007-08-14 22:07:00 Look on your quest to find a job as a job in itself. Add structure to your days. Although it is empting to exploit any free time you may have, don't spend all your free time shopping or sleeping late. Every weekday that you are off, spend time working towards finding your dream job.Be clear on what you want to achieve. Write down your plans: Where would you like to work? What time frame do you have to work to? Look at your plan regularly, daily preferably, and keep a record of actions that you have taken towards achieving your goal.In the words of Tony Robbins:“One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.” So get focused and get that job!Source: http://erddig.typepad.com/nurse_blog/ http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/FESA

A Nurse’s Prayer 2007-08-12 10:30:00 O my God, teach me to receive the sick in Your Name.Give to my efforts success for the glory of Your holy Name. It is Your work: without You, I cannot succeed. Grant that the sick You have placed in my care may be abundantly blessed, and not one of them be lost because of any neglect on my part.Help me to overcome, every temporal weakness and strengthen me whatever may enable me to bring joy to the lives of those I serve. Give me grace, for the sake of Your sick ones and of those lives that will be influenced by them. Amen.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/FESA

FAQs FOR 2006 JUNE PASSERS OF PHILIPPINE NURSING LICENSURE EXAM 2007-08-10 17:19:00 Does passage of the NCLEX or the CGFNS Exam make someone who passed only the June 2006 Exam eligible for a VisaScreen certificate? No. In order to become eligible for a VisaScreen Certificate, CGFNS has required that a June 2006 passer must first re-take and pass, with a score of 75 percent or better, the “special voluntary examination” covering the subject matter of Tests 3 and 5. Passage of the NCLEX or the CGFNS Examination by any passer of the compromised June 2006 PRC examination will not substitute for the requirement that he or she take the “special voluntary examination” authorized by Executive Order 609 issued by the Philippine Government on March 12, 2007.Does the CGFNS decision have an effect on the validity of the Philippine nursing licensure? No. CGFNS recognizes the validity of the Philippine nursing license obtained by the June 2006 passers. The CGFNS decision to deny issuing a VisaScreen Certificate to the June 2006 passers of the Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam

Of course, the authorities will not allow it. Political leaders will not allow that.
