os pazuzus - a maldição do surf sumério 2007-08-14 11:29:00 from rio de janeiro --- "brazilian sci-fi surf horror", as 'os pazuzus' define themselves [fast and heavy could also be added]. one of the best bands of their kind here in brazil, i think. this debut album is actually a demo recording, with many samples and lots of talking in the beginning of the songs, showing a strong moam? influence. nice pick if you like the genre. here is the tracklist:

"The judge in Penal Court 3 in Santander, Paz Aldecoa, has ruled that downloading music on the Internet is not a crime, provided that it is not done to make money. The judge yesterday found a 48 year old Internet user not guilty, after he was facing demands from the prosecution for a two year prison sentence and 7,200 € fine for downloading and sharing music over the web. The judge considered that article 31 of the Intellectual Property Law in Spain established the right of the public to obtain copies of music without permission of the author, provided they were for private use and no profit was made."

the mummies - never been caught 2007-09-26 15:47:00 At a time when a lot of garage rock bands sounded like they were drowning in a sea of paisley and nehru affectation, the Mummies flipped the whole scene the bird with one of the most gloriously ugly garage albums ever, 1992's Never Been Caught. Sounding like it was recorded in an acoustically untreated basement on equipment that might have been state of the art in 1947, Never Been Caught is one long blast of monophonic skwak, with the needles almost perpetually in the red as four guys in mummy outfits bash out crude '60s-style rock about beer, babes, and open hostility on battered gear which was doubtless discarded by tone-deaf teenagers who got over their 15-minute delusion of possible future rock stardom in 1966. In case you haven't figured it out by now, this album is, quite simply, a work of genius; Billy Childish was once quoted as saying the Mummies were nearly as good as the Damned in 1977, and while the two bands don't have much in common musically, the Mummies certainly sh
ramones - brain drain 2007-09-24 22:04:00 Though it contains one of the Ramones' biggest radio hits, "Pet Sematary" (written for Stephen King's movie of the same name), 1989's Brain Drain finds the "bruthas" from Queens at an all-time inspirational low. And since the aforementioned track is actually reviled by most of the band's hardcore fans, the listener has to make do with opener "I Believe in Miracles" and closer "Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight)," which bookend the amazingly dull tracks in between with the record's only bright moments. The final Ramones album recorded for Sire Records (their label from day one), Brain Drain was sadly also the last to feature bassist and creative leader Dee Dee Ramone.
