ADOBO MAGAZINE - Agency of the Year goes to JimenezBasic 2007-09-03 21:41:00 JIMENEZBASIC, FINALLY In the annals of the Agency of the Year Awards, Basic Advertising was a strong contender in business management, market performance, industry leadership and community service. Jimenez D’Arcy, on the other hand, was regarded as the upstart with blue chip clients and a solid creative reputation. However, be it Basic, Jimenez D’Arcy or the agency merger JimenezBasic (or JimBasic, as it is often called), it was a perennial also-ran, nothing more. As JimBasic’s Managing Partner Abby Jimenez recalled, they “were ready to celebrate our annual defeat” towards the end of this year’s AOY night. Then the darnedest thing happened. The agency was named Agency of the Year. [More:] Accepting on behalf of the agency and husband Mon Jimenez (who was chairman of the AOY Committee), Abby said, “It pays to be patient.”"Then the darnedest thing happened. The agency was named Agency of the Year." Hhaha. Parang ang dating eh "what!?!what!?!what!?!" Want t
Ace Saatchi & Saatchi bags AdCon pitch 2007-10-02 05:01:00 After a hotly contested pitch for the ad campaign of the 20th Philippine Advertising Congress, Ace Saatchi & Saatchi was proclaimed the winner. The Ace Saatchi & Saatchi team was represented by executive creative director Raoul Floresca, creative director Manu Sandejas, account manager Gigi Garcia, and copywriter Edwin Ortega. They will now handle the AdCon’s tri-media campaign in TVC, radio, and print ads. Floresca recalls the day when they received calls from Ad Congress creative committee chair Raul Castro and competition sub-committee chair Merlee Jayme. “Both Raul and Merlee asked us to go the Ad Congress office for a meeting,” he relates. "It was then that we found out we won the pitch. The walk back to the office was a happy one, and breaking the news to the team that worked on the requirement was even better. Everybody was ecstatic.” The well-deserved win is also credited to their cohesive campaign which showed “how we could tie in the differe

The New Order By Bong R. Osorio 2007-10-09 23:20:00 The world of marketing and advertising is traditionally likened to a kaleidoscope. Each time you turn this cylindrical optical toy made of mirrors and colored shapes, it creates shifting symmetrical patterns. Silhouettes, sizes, images and color combinations vary in every rotation. It represents creativity in advertising where twists and turns result into “eureka, I found it” moments. In today’s practice, the changing relationships of the multiple players are made even more pronounced. It can now be paralleled to a snow globe, where in each shake of the crystal ball-like object, everything gets rearranged. The elements are disturbed and put in an unstable state. The rattled pieces then slowly fall down, and the rattler waits with bated breath how the perturbed parts will come together once they settle down again. For sure, the action will alter the preceding landscape and present a different look. The snow globe is a visual metaphor for advertising, a business that thrives Read more:Order

20th Ad Congress in the land of the Aetas 2007-10-05 09:01:00 With this year’s 20th Philippine Ad Congress
themed “The New Order” happening in Subic, we take a look at a place originally (and still is) inhabited by the Aetas, considered to be the first inhabitants of the Philippines. They are described as dark-skinned, with a small stature and frame, curly hair, small nose, and dark brown eyes. Their history remains a mystery to archeologists and anthropologists alike. One backgrounder suggests that they are the descendants of the original inhabitants of the country. The Aetas adopted the language of their Austronesian neighbors. These include Mag-indi, Mag-antsi, Abellen, Ambala, and Mariveleño. There is archeological evidence that the Aetas spent life in the lowlands, but because of the invading Spaniards and other foreign invaders, they had no choice but to retreat to the mountains. But one fact is true though: the Spaniards failed in settling them in reservations. In addition, the Aetas have become extremely nomadic, no thanks to
A new order for the Aetas of Subic 2007-10-05 08:52:00 Despite being stereotyped as people with no exposure to the present world, the Aetas of Subic are just as modern as the rest of us while retaining their traditions and beliefs. We are talking about a community that remained intact after all these years of shakeups in their own little world. Yes, they may still have that distinct culture about them, but that does not mean that they never thrived on disruptions and modifications, both natural and man-made. Consider their own reputation as highly mobile people. Their intimate knowledge of forests and wilderness made them unequaled authorities in jungle survival and techniques. All these years they kept their skills alive. In fact, they served as instructors to the American soldiers who consulted them on jungle life. The Aetas taught them how to build fire, cook, build shelters, and trap animals using forest materials only. Up to now, they are still called upon to serve as forest rangers and guides within Subic. Nowadays, there are

Dentsu Executive offends and humiliates employee with brothel and onsen trips 2007-11-02 06:24:00 The Associated Press is reporting some embarrassing news about Dentsu, Japan’s largest advertising agency. Steve Biegel, a former executive of Dentsu’s U.S. branch, is suing the company because CEO Toyo Shigeta forced Biegel into awkward, sexually charged situations: Shigeta took them to a brothel, leaving Biegel, who is married, offended and humiliated that he had been forced or duped into going there, the lawsuit said. It said Shigeta later demanded they participate in prostitution and became angry when they did not, accusing them of being “no fun.” The lawsuit said Shigeta later told them that having sex with prostitutes was a proper style of conducting business and commemorating business dealings. According to the lawsuit, Biegel, of Woodbury, N.Y., was “horrified, offended and humiliated by this sexually debasing experience of being forced to attend a brothel imposed on him as a condition of his employment.” On another business trip to Tokyo in October 2 Read more:Executive

Gathering Dreamlings and Nightmares with Neil Gaiman 2007-11-16 01:56:00 Now’s your chance to meet one of the greatest living post-modern authors, Neil Gaiman. Neil Gaiman is returning to the Philippines this November to speak at the 20th Philippine Advertising Congress, and will also be having a special book reading just for his fans.Gaiman is no stranger to “The New Order,” the main theme of this year’s Ad Congress, because it’s largely because of his efforts that the “graphic novel” has come into its own as a legitimate and very popular art form.Although he loved to read comics as a child, Gaiman’s interest waned in his teens when he felt that he could learn nothing new from the medium. However, the emergence of the graphic novel in the 1970’s and 1980’s inspired Gaiman to become a comic book writer. During the early 1980’s, he worked as a freelance journalist and editor until he was able to publish his first comic book, Violent Cases, in collaboration with artist Dave McKean in 1987. Afterwards, Gaiman was invited by DC comics to Read more:Gathering

What do you think of Steve Clay? 2007-11-29 20:10:00 Read the Adobo Magazine feature. What got me interested was what was quoted, him saying "I don't even know who these people are..." and immediately I thought oh oh. Will there be a martial rule at LOWE? O nagsimula na ba? Baka mag-impose siya ng 12am-5am curfew so probably that is a good thing. ;>Made me also think
of the incoming head of Ace Saatchi & Saatchi - Matt Seddon. A good friend texted me this about him:"He keeps his cards close. Likes awards and profit. Pleasant but hard to read..."I think heads will roll, I think. Scary world we now live in... Want to be an ad critic?

In spite of the fact that some of you were here 1230 and probably asleep quietly in the background somewhat, one of the reasons I became a writer was to not get up early in the morning. I survived the 20th Philippine Advertising Congress 2007-11-25 21:16:00 Most press releases would say that this by far was the most successful Ad Congress
in recent years. In terms of turn-out, the more than 3,300 delegates was an indication that it is. I would just attempt to share some of my experiences, some not that pleasant, that somewhat ruined an otherwise decent Ad Congress event. It is my opinion and not necessarily the opinion of the majority. Parking. We bought parking passes that was “inutil” to say the least. Everyone can park, car pass or not anywhere. So we are suckers to the congress who will charge a fee for those willing to be duped PARADISE parking is for those “trusting” individuals who follow rules. The rest of those in the industry would rather park in the nearby side streets rather than park in that muddy piece of land and walk for 3 minutes one way.SBMA authorities issued traffic tickets without even consulting with Ad Cong parking and security department creating unnecessary Read more:Philippine

Tsismax hearts this blog!
