Asteroid Goddesses
2007-10-20 08:28:22
October 20, 2007 Asteroid Goddesses by Demetra George and Douglas Block 1986 ACS Publications The complex nature of women and our roles in society is reverberated throughout the themes in this ground breaking work of four asteroids associated with female goddesses. In pre-Hellenistic society a centuries long cultural war was waged between the invading and patriarchal Archaean tribes from the north and the then matriarchal tribes of Greece. In Greece, the Mother Goddess was worshipped in diverse forms and royal lines of succession came from the distaff side. As the two cultures clashed and eventually merged, the power of the feminine goddesses was subverted and reinterpeted to fit within the patriachal framework of the invading peoples. Here we see the origins of centuries long repression and denial of feminine power The fractured nature of today’s vision of feminimity can be traced to this ancient cultural war. (more…)

Brad Pitt: “Wouldn’t Cheat”???
2007-10-18 09:42:59
October 18, 2007 The buzz around is that Brad Pitt supposedly told British Cosmopolitan Magazine that he wouldn’t cheat. This story has made the rounds of various entertainment news outlets and of course, has quite a few people chuckling. After all, when your lover is pregnant before your divorce is final, for much of the world, that is evidence of cheating. We all remember President Clinton’s denial of an affair with Monica Lewinsky. The subsequent salacious revelations of interesting uses for cigars only illustrated for most of us the compartmentalization that can take place when people deny their own actions. Let’s take a look at Brad’s psychological make-up that would prompt him to make such a statement. (more…)

An Unintended Effect
2007-10-17 03:02:18
October 17, 2007 Two or three times during the year, the planet of communications, Mercury, appears to go backwards in its orbit. It doesn’t actually go backward in its orbit, of course. Its just that from our perspective on Earth, as Earth overtakes the orbit of quicksilver Mercury, it looks like it is. The Mercury retrograde effect is treated with trepidation by those with passing knowlege of its existance. When Mercury appears to go backwards in the sky, odds things happen to our communications, vehicles and travel plans. Any new project started during this period is likely to be abandoned. Any offer or promise made is likely to be recinded. It is a maddening time, especially if you need to get something accomplished, as any forward motion is likely to slow to crawl and firm agreements can’t be reached. This is poor time to make any major purchases, sign any documents or start any new job. (more…)

Britney: Disinterested or Distraught Mom?
2007-10-25 05:19:13
October 25, 2007 The court appointed parenting coach that supervises the visits between Britney and her children has filed a damning report that alleges that Britney “lives in her own world and ignores her sons.” The coach also reported that she couldn’t teach Britney anything because Britney totally ignored her. Yet Britney was the first to show up at yesterday’s co-parenting class with Kevin Federline and according to a TMZ report was “looking forward to discuss parenting with her ex”, though she reportedly spent time in the bathroom before the session “bawling like a baby.” So what is the story? Is Britney a disinterested or a distraught mom? (more…)

The Bad Little Boy
2007-10-24 05:58:22
October 24, 2007 Today’s Aries moon doesn’t send shockwaves through the Universe but it does flow against the tide of the earth and water influence of most of the other planets. Here Aries is acting like the bad little boy who teases the girls just to get their attention. Egging Aries on is the mischevious Jupiter in Sagittarius and latter in the day, powerful Pluto in Sagittarius, who takes the boys’ side. “Don’t be so sensitive,” says big daddy Pluto. This is not going to be pretty. The lack of the element air throughout these whole preceedings shows that much thought isn’t given to either action or reaction. The air element rules those signs, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius that are ruled by their thoughts than their emotions. No one is home. No planet is in Gemini right now, trying to hide out from Jupiter in Sag who is looking for someone to talk to. Libra is ready to make a defection into the sign of Scorpio, and Aquarius, has been really out

Breakfast With the Gods
2007-10-23 05:31:21
October 23, 2007 Our relationships are starkly highlighted today by a predominant T-Square between the moon in the sign of Pisces, Venus in the sign of Virgo, and Jupiter in the sign of Sagittarius. Jupiter is “king of the gods” and in Sagittarius is itching to go and demands his way. He has people to see and places and go, and you better do as he says. It’s his way or the highway, so get out of the way. The thing with this kind of personality is that it is just about impossible to reign them in, and they get cranky when you try to do so. Venus, the goddess of love and money, is in the logical, practical sign of Virgo. She is cautious and careful, trying to make sure all the bases are covered. Likewise, she gets cranky when she is pushed into doing things that go against this natural bent. Imagine this scene at breakfast table with Mr. Sagittarius Jupiter and Ms. Venus Virgo. “Darling,” says Venus, “I can’t help but notice the new golf clubs

Expressions of Feminine Energy
2007-10-22 06:07:17
October 22, 2007 The power of the feminine is the power of the creation of life inherent in our role in reproducing the species. Many ancient cultures revered feminine energy, with their goddess just as or more powerful than than male deities. Humans shifted from nomadic hunter-gathering lifestyle to a more stable agrarian lifestyle As human populations grew, so did the competition for land. Warrior cultures, with their emphasis on male strength and competitive nature thrived. The balance of power between male and female was disrupted, as patriarchal cultures subverted the power of female deities, shattering the base of the feminine power. In the process the female psyche was fractured, leaving us very confused on what constitutes feminine behavior. (more…)

Scorpio’s Year Ahead, part 1
2007-10-29 04:44:16
October 29, 2007 Astrologer’s Note: Sun sign astrology, that is astrology based only on your sun at the time of your birth gets a bad rap from astrologers in general for a good reason. The sun, although a very important part of your make-up, is just one of many factors on which to base a prediction. But people like horoscopes. Just about everyone knows “their sign” and more than one of you sneak a peek at your daily ’scope in your local newspaper. So in that vein, here is the first part of Scorpio ’s Year Ahead. Your Theme This Year: Favorable energetic connections betweem your sun and quirky Uranus allows you to explore personal freedom and individuality, as well as develop your spiritual side. Scorpio rarely feels this unfettered, so the feeling is a little heady. Its easy for this rush to the head to allow you to act in fashion that is inconsiderate towards others. It is to your benefit to pay attention to how you are treating others so you don’t s

Symbolic Meaning of the Carpenter’s Tools
2007-10-28 08:56:48
From the “Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ” by Levi: Chapter 20 Verse 11 to 21 11 And then he went forth with his parents on their way to Nazareth: and when they their home he wrought with Joseph as a carpenter. 12 One day, as he was bringing forth the tools for work he said, 13 These tools remind me of the one we handle in the workshop of the mind where things were made of thought and where we build up character. 14 We use the square to measure all our lives, to straighten out the crooked places of the way, and make the corners our conduct square. 15 We use the compass to draw circles round our passions and desires to keep them in the bounds of righteousness. Eris: Here We Go With Them Apples Again
2007-10-26 05:39:50
The newest dwarf planet discoved is the goddess of Discord, Eris. Her mythology is complex. Looked upon primarily as the genesis of discord, she is looked at another way as well. “The Goddess of Discord is just one way of looking at Eris. But the other [side of Eris] [is that] . . .She stirs up even the shiftless to toil; for a man grows eager to work when he considers his neighbor, a rich man who hastens to plough and plant and put his house in good order; and neighbor vies with his neighbor as he hurries after wealth. This Strife is wholesome for men.”   In other words, another form of the word strife is “striving.” Competition creates conditions where individuals . . . strive to improve their life.” The parthogenically produced daughter of the goddess Night, who, in turn, was created in primodial Chaos, she has no male heritage. Eris had the ability to produce children without the aid of a consort and she did so many times. She was whole unto herself, not needing the mal

The Slippery Slope
2007-11-02 05:24:04
November 2, 2007 Expression! Action! Freedom! Like a bolt from the blue, the water signs, Scorpio, Pisces and Cancer declare these words as their mantras for the week. As if we’d notice. These people live a rich inner life full of fantasies and desires that are rarely expressed to others. The most we might be might be shown is an aimless restlessness, or a few ill placed words of sarcasm. We really need to sit up an take notice, take a temperature, or take the bus out of town, because we are unlikely to emerge unscathed from the water signs’ current quest. What is happening is that the Sun in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer, and Uranus in Pisces form the powerful energetic connection, the Grand Trine. This power hookup fuels a desire in these signs to find the “Meaning of Life.” Of course, these answers are always elusive, people spending lifetimes to parse this out, so it can hardly be done in a week. Being as they are creatures driven by their emotions, this will not stop them. The

Angelina Jolie: The Drive to Give
2007-11-01 10:09:42
While filming in Cambodia in 2001, Angelina Jolie ’s eyes were opened to the plight of refugees. “It was very clear to me there was a lot about this world that I didn’t know. I felt really ashamed and ignorant. . . . It just changed my life.” -Angelina Jolie Angelina’s response to her experience was to adopt Maddox out of Cambodia, and contact the United Nations, to ask what she could do to help. They in turned, harnessed her star power by naming her Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission on Refugees. But she not only lent her name to the plight of the poorest of the poor, she’s invested a considerable amount of her time, making tours of UNHCR refugee operations in the Balkans, Sierra Leone, Namibia, Tanzania, Kenya, Cambodia, Thailand, and Pakistan and Ecuador. In addition she has contributed three million dollars to this cause. A quick tour of a recent Forbes survey of top ten celebrity philanthropists, she is outstanding in her

Sneak Peek for November
2007-10-31 07:16:03
October 31, 2007 As the planet of work and responsibility makes the stress aspect, the yod, to your Sun, you are feeling under the weather because, frankly, you don’t like to work as hard as you’ve been. You think you are not getting paid what you’re worth, but you hardly in a position to do anything about it just yet. In the middle of the month, you’ll be offered a deal that you’ll probably take just to make other people happy. You don’t do well as a martyr, Aries, so buck up. You couldn’t be happier Taurus as the majority of this month’s planetary alignments supports your goals. Even your honey will be happy to snuggle at home rather than galavant around the Universe. Ok, so the big boys at work are giving you a bit of a time, wanting things faster than you can produce them. Do triage on the work and give them the essentials; delegate, if you can, the day to day. Dealing With Those Tricky Teenagers
2007-10-30 06:49:48
Parents just about experience it hear about it from battle weary veterans who tell their stories with a knowing yet tired look. Your precious darling has just hit the teenage years. You don’t know who this person with the multi color hair, and unfathomable body piercings across from the table is. Did some alien race come in the middle of the night and steal away little Sally or Joey? They must have. The Sally and Joey you know are the ones who demanded hugs and kisses before they went to sleep at night and asked for milk with their cookies. Now this creature before you gives a withering look when you ask if they want milk, “Please, mother, you knooow I don’t eat anything with a face. I’m a vegan.” Vegan, smegan, you say as you send off the DNA test to the nearest lab, but the results came back and to your amazement that creature is your child. On top of this, even though there is some dramatic changes going on in the life of your child, you are the last person to whom he or

Peaceful, Easy Feeling?
2007-11-07 07:29:36
November 7, 2007 The moon in Libra usually indicates the period in the month where people are naturally inclined to get along with each other, but with the moon in stress aspect to shake-em up Uranus sets everything off balance. A Grand Trine in water signs indicates people are in touch with their feelings, but Mars in Cancer in challenge aspect to the Moon shows the angrier side of them. Expect some passive aggressive behavior, pouts and silent treatment as people feel that they are not getting the attention they deserve. We got anything but a peaceful, easy feeling going on. Aries, Libra and Leo–Be prepared for the unexpected. Something hits you from the blue, either a sudden change in attitudes at home, or an unanticipated monetary expediture. Take a deep breath and think through your reaction before a blow up aggravates problems. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces– You are in touch with your feeling alright, just not the most productive ones. I wouldn’t say you were irri

May 2008–You hear some shocking things and you are wondering what’s up. Scorpio loves nothing better than a good mystery, so you are disappointed to discover that someone is just letting off some steam. June 2008–The entrance of the ruler of your sign, Pluto, in the compatible sign of Capricorn signals a new period in your life where you learn to access your personal power. Jupiter, making a helpful energetic connection to your Sun doesn’t hurt either. Though communications are muddled, rest assured things are going better than you’d ever expect. July 2008–You have a tendency this month to fall in negative habit patterns as the heady prospect of freedom drives you into your reclusive shell. Fixed Scorpio does not like being “forced” to do anything. You have plenty of suppo

The Part of Poverty

So with all this going for you, how is it that you have hard times? Astrology is rich is with many traditions. One of these is called the Arabic Parts, mathematical calculations that indicate sensitive areas of your chart between planets. Time and Money, The Astrology of Wealth
2007-11-03 12:16:04
November 3, 2007 Time and Money , by Barbara Koval Llewylln Publications, 1991 Since childhood, you are told that if you work hard and are a good citizen of your community you will be rewarded with financial stability. People who lose their homes do it through financial imprudence. Poor people are poor because they make bad choices. In other words, people going through financial hard times have only themselves to blame. Though not the point of this book, Time and Money illustrates the utter foolishness of this view. With a combination of astrological techniques and sound economic history and theory, Barbara shows us the natural cycles of economic growth and recession and the reasons for it. Barbara tells us what our economic leaders do not, that our money supply is an artifical construction, grossly inflated by the amount of credit that is put out by financial institutions. She explains how the economy works by controlling the money supply and why the flow of money is cyclic. Once you

Incidents and Accidents; Hints and Allegations
2007-11-11 20:49:30
November 11, 2007 This week’s key word is intrigue as activities behind the scenes perturb and preplex us. The moon in Aquarius makes the challenge aspect to the secretive Sun in Scorpio demanding “hints and allegations” be brought out into the cold light of logic for investigation. Aquarius, indeed, is the sign of the detective, ferreting out the “incidents and accidents” alleged to have occured under cover of night, or while someone wasn’t watching. What are we trying to achieve here? Are we looking for actual wrongdoing or a scapegoat? (more…)

Listen Up! Your Body is Speaking to You!
2007-11-09 06:15:19
November 9, 2007 Astrology can help you understand what your body is saying to you. Each of us has all the zodiac signs in our chart. Looking at the signs and where they are placed in your chart can help you recognize those issues that are nagging you. The stress aspects, conjunction, opposition, square and inconjunct make energetic connections from one sign to another that talks about potential health problems. For instance, often during the midlife transition, when transiting Uranus opposes natal Uranus, people have problems with their heart, especially the Uranus in Leo generation. In this astrologer’s chart, when transiting Uranus hit my natal Sun/Uranus opposition, I unexpectedly (Uranus) had a failure of my aortic valve (Aquarius rules circulatory system) which necessited, of course, surgery, (natal Neptune in Scorpio in the sixth, square Sun/Uranus opposition to replace the valve. Of course, most people’s health issues aren’t as dramatic as the above. A good un

November 8, 2007 Rumors of Angelina Jolie being pregnant for second time is circulating through the tabloid press, starting first with a tantalizing bit from the Italian press. Though in September, Brad Pitt called this rumour “a joke”, Brad hasn’t exactly been forthcoming in telling the truth when it come his relationship with Angelina. November 16, 2007 The predominant aspect in the sky this week is a Grand Trine in Water signs between the planet of communication, Mercury, Mars in Cancer and Uranus in Pisces. This trine is made even more power by the Moon’s entrance into the sign of Pisces on Sunday, opening up our sensitivities and our longings for the security of home and hearth. Those of us with predominant personal planets in one of the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces will be affected the most, but all of us will feel it in some way. We will be inspired to express our feelings in various art forms, music, art, writing or even a particulary festive centerpiece on the Thanksgiving table. (more…)

Do Over
2007-11-14 07:09:09
November 14, 2007 Not only should you keep track of the moon by sign, but also by phase. Each phase responds just a little differently to the current environment. Today the moon is in the waxing crescent phase moving toward the full moon. In the yin/yang duality that pervades astrological thought, all moon phases moving toward the full moon are reactive to surrounding influences, while the phases moving away from the full are reflective, acting from conscious action. With the waxing crescent phase there is a sense of obstacles being put in your way, a sense that you have to do something over to get it right. This is frustrating as there is a sense of urgency to move onto to new things. With the slow and practical Moon in Capricorn in tension aspect to the stick in the mud Mars in Cancer, we have our feet stuck one foot in the past and one foot forward into today. (more…)
