Outswinger
2007-08-16 03:22:00
An outswinger is a type of delivery in the sport of cricket. It is bowled by swing bowlers. n outswinger is bowled by holding the cricket ball with the seam vertical and the first two fingers running along either side of the seam. Once the ball has worn and been polished so that one side is rougher than the other, the rough side is placed on the left (as seen from the bowler's viewpoint). When the bowler delivers the ball, he angles the seam so that it points slightly to the left as well, and releases the ball rotating about a horizontal axis with the seam along the rotational "equator". The angle of the seam to the direction of motion produces an aerofoil effect as the ball moves through the air, pushing it to the left. This is enhanced by differential air pressure caused by movement of air over the rough and smooth surfaces, which also tends to push the ball to the left. The result is that the ball curves, or swings to the left. From a right-handed batsman's point of view, the swin

An inswinger is a type of delivery in the sport of cricket. Once the ball has worn and been polished so that one side is rougher than the other, the rough side is placed on the leg side. The ball is placed on the pad of the thumb. It is the wrist position that is crucial, not the position of hips or shoulders. (See thumb position above).Point of releaseWhen the bowler delivers the ball, he angles the seam so that it points slightly to the leg side. To help achieve this position the bowling arm should be near vertical, brushing close to the ear. At release the wrist should remain cocked so as to help impart backspin along the or

India win series 1-0 after draw in final test vs England Kevin Pietersen's 10th test century helped England survive for a draw in the third test at The Oval on Monday against India, who still claimed a rare series victory outside Asia 1-0.England, set an unlikely 500 to win, reached 369 for six at the close with Matt Prior 12 not out and Ryan Sidebottom on three.Pietersen scored a dashing 101 from 159 balls and Ian Bell made 67 from just 62 balls before getting out five overs from the end to set up a nervous finish for the hosts.Shanthakumaran Sreesanth took three for 53, but India were unable to take the 10 wickets they required on the final day. They became the first India team to win a test series in England for 21 years, emulating Kapil Dev's side in 1986.It was India's fourth test series win on tour against major opposition in 21 years. Day 1 India vs England Third Test at Oval Weather was excellent on Day 1 of the Third Test Match between India and England, play started on time, Indian captain Dravid won the toss and decided to take batting without a second thought on firm and dry batsmen friendly pitch at Oval. Both side kept the same XI they fielded in this series. Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik began Indian inning; they got off the mark positively and confidently. Both batsmen played some fine shots on both sides of the wicket. Both added 50 runs partnership for India in only 13 overs; Wasim Jaffer was first batsmen to get out at the score of 35 runs and India were at 62 for 1 wicket. Jaffer was trapped by England captain Vaughan who sent Kevin Pietersen from gully to short third-man position, it rewarded with Jaffer’s wicket. He added good opening stand with Dinesh Karthik. Rahul Dravid walked in to replace Jaffer, Dravid made his intension clear by hitting some aggressive shots. Both bat

Get Your LedAustralian legends Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath could be the latest big names to sign up for the breakaway Indian Cricket League. The veteran bowlers, with 1,271 Test wickets between them, have retired from international cricket but may feature if financial issues are resolved. "They haven't offered what we asked for, so negotiations are proceeding," Warne's manager James Erskine said. The six-team league will comprise Twenty20 matches across India. Warne, 37, who retired from Test cricket after the Ashes, has continued playing county cricket in England but opted to miss Hampshire's Twenty20 campaign. Erskine added: "If terms and conditions are right, he will play. But it's a long way off before we get the contract signed." McGrath, also 37, played in the World Cup in the Caribbean before leaving the international stage. His manager, Warren Craig, confirmed that talks had taken place but that salaries had not been discussed. "They haven't given us any indicati

Cricket Bats
2007-08-25 08:12:00
A cricket bat is used by batsmen in the sport of cricket. It is usually made of willow wood.Shape This specialised bat is shaped something like a paddle, consisting of a padded handle similar to - but sturdier than - that of a tennis racquet, which is usually cylindrical in shape. This widens into the blade of the bat, a wider wooden block flat on one side and with a V-shaped ridge on the other to provide greater strength. The flat side (the front of the bat) is used to hit the ball. The point at which the handle widens into the blade is known as the shoulder of the bat, and the bottom of the blade is known as the toe of the bat. The bat is traditionally made from willow wood, specifically from the Cricket -bat Willow (Salix alba var. caerulea), treated with linseed oil. This wood is used as it is very tough and shock-resistant, not being significantly dented nor splintering on the impact of a cricket ball at high speed, while also being light in weight. It

Sourav Ganguly vs Rahul Dravid : captain vs captain
2007-08-25 07:55:00
This is a fight Saurav Ganguly never thought he will face, a successful Test captain with 19 wins. But as luck would have, the International Cricke Council (ICC)-imposed ban for slow over-rates throws out this 33 years old, 10000-run garland holder superb cricketer. Not that 32 years old Rahul Dravid has a bad record, the reigning ICC cricketer of the year, is India’s batting star with 2,082 runs in the last 20 Tests at an average of 74.35 which has brought up his team to third position in the ICC’s Test rankings. Ganguly has scored 4,949 runs in 82 Tests at an average of 40.90 with 11 centuries. In 274 one-dayers, he has 10,046 runs with 22 hundreds. Ganguly’s one-day captaincy record is 73-63 in 141 matches with five no results. In contrast, Dravid aggregates 7,696 runs in 89 Tests at 57.86 with 20 centuries. In 257 one-dayers, he has 8,319 runs with 10 hundreds. Dravid has 7-9 from 17 games with one no-result. Five selectors now have to spent sleepless nights before taking th

Yuvraj Singh Hits 6 Sixes in an Over
2007-09-21 12:02:00
Yuvraj Singh smashed English fast bowler Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over as India won by 18 runs to stay alive in the Twenty20 world championships here today.India, who would have crashed out of the tournament had they lost, piled up 4-218 after electing to take first strike and then restricted England to 6-200 on a rousing night at the jam-packed Kingsmead.Left-hander Yuvraj's feat in the 19th over gave him the fastest 50 in the tournament off just 12 balls, eight deliveries less than what Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful achieved against the West Indies.Broad's first two balls were swung over fine leg, the third over cover, the fourth cut over point, the fifth pulled to mid-wicket and the last into the stands at long-on.It was only the fourth instance in top cricket that six sixes were hit in an over after Garfield Sobers and Ravi Shastri did it in first-class cricket and Herschelle Gibbs in the World Cup earlier this year.Yuvraj finished with 58 off 16 balls with seven s

Twenty20
2007-09-12 03:35:00
Twenty20 is a form of cricket, originally introduced in the United Kingdom for professional inter-county competition by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), in 2003. Both teams have a single innings and bat for a maximum of 20 overs.A Twenty20 game is completed in about three hours, with each innings lasting around 75 minutes, thus bringing the game closer to the timespan of other popular team sports such as football. It was introduced to create a lively form of the game which would be attractive to spectators at the ground and viewers on television and as such has been very successful. The ECB did not intend that Twenty20 would replace other forms of the county game and these have continued alongside it.The game has spread around the cricket world and there have also been some Twenty20 internationals, with all Test-playing nations having played at least one game. The inaugural Twenty20 World Championship is being contested in South Africa.Statistics and RankingsWith Twenty20 st

India vs England, 6th ODI, Match review and highlights
2007-09-06 03:01:00
What a match! Nerve-wracking right till the last over. Frustrating and joyful at the same time if you are an India n fan. I, for one, did not believe that India would go an and win after being down 5 wickets and still requiring 83 runs from 58 balls. But the youth brigade held on to their nerves and in a cool, icy, tone won the match for India which they never should have won after conceding 30 runs off the last over with five consecutive sixes. Yes, you heard me correct, if you did not watch England ’s innings you have missed out on something spectacular. Dimitry Mascerenhas smashed Yuvraj Singh for 5 straight sixes in the 50th over of the English innings. More on that later.Paul Collingwood won the toss for the second time in a row and this time he decided to bat first on a flat surface that was going to help the spinners in the second innings. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Dravid and his men. Zaheer Khan was charged up and got one to move just enough for the ball

India defeat Pakistan in 2007 ICC World Twenty20 final
2007-09-28 15:23:00
Mahendra Singh Dhoni's young India team snatched the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship title after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by five runs in a rousing final on Monday. The Indians, restricted to 157-5 after electing to take first strike in good batting conditions, fought back to bowl out valiant Pakistan for 152 before a sell-out crowd of 32 000 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. Pakistan appeared out for the count when they were reduced to 104-7 after 16 overs, but Misbah ul-Haq gave the Indians a scare with a late charge of 43 off 38 balls. Misbah and his tail-end partners took 19 runs in the 18th over bowled by Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and seven runs in the 19th from Rudra Pratap Singh, leaving 13 to get off the final over. Seamer Joginder Sharma bowled a wide off the first ball and was hammered for a six by Misbah with the second legitimate ball, but gave India victory with his next delivery as the batsman holed out to fine-leg. Andrew Symonds
2007-10-16 14:22:00
PROFILEAndrew Symonds brings gusto to whatever he does, whether firing down offbreaks or mediums, hurling his ungainly bulk round the field or vigorously ruffling the bowler's hair at the celebration of a wicket. He saves his loudest grunt for his batting, where he is that rarest of modern-day creatures - an unabashed six-hitter in the mould of a George Bonnor or a Colin Milburn or a David Hookes. Batting for Gloucestershire at 20, he scythed 16 sixes in the first dig [a world record] against Glamorgan at Abergavenny, 20 for the match [another first], and then announced he couldn't care less about the milestone; he wanted only to help his team. He has been matter-of-factly demolishing attacks ever since. His flaw has been to attempt one six too many - invariably off the wrong ball."I used to hate watching him bat," his old coach Toot Byron once lamented. "He wasn't in control of his shot-selection ... he'd get 24 off an over and then go out on the last ball of that over." Legend h

India vs Australia Twenty20 October 20, 2007
2007-10-22 13:29:00
World Champions against World Champions. Definitely a new rivalry in the making. This time, however, India were the defending Twenty20 World Champions. For a change, something that is as rare as word itself, Australia were NOT the favorites. And yesterday night’s match proved why Australia still has a little more work to do in this new format of the game. The problem for Australia was the team selection. You cannot, I repeat cannot, go to a match in India, no matter what format, without a regular spin bowler. Australia left out Brad Hogg, clearly their best bowler in the ODI series, and that was where they lost the match. Winning the toss and deciding to bat first was always the right thing to do in this match. Ricky Ponting seems to have lady luck on his side whenever he goes in for the toss in a crucial match. Yesterday was no different. The Australian openers have always enjoyed batting against the Indians and the T20 format would have suited them to the tee. However, that was not

Challenger Trophy: India Blue beat Red by 12 runs
2007-10-26 14:25:00
India Blue defeated India Red by 12 runs in the opening 50-over match of the N K P Salve Challenger Trophy in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Chasing a target of 247 set by India Blue, the Red could muster 234 for eight wickets in 50 overs in the day-night encounter at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad. Earlier in the day, a stroke-filled 92 by Suresh Raina helped India Blue to recover from a shaky start and post a respectable 246 in 50 overs.
