Australia hungry for another trophy - Clarke 2007-08-16 13:41:00 Michael Clarke
says Australia
are approaching the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship with enormous confidence and are eager to annex another trophy after their recent World Cup triumph. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of playing in the inaugural Twenty20 championship and I'm certain we can bring home the trophy," Clarke told journalists in Johannesburg during an ICC conference call from Sydney."In a game of such a short amount of overs, one player can win the match, whether it be in batting, bowling or fielding. We have a lot of talent, a lot of guys who can win a game on their own."Clarke is one of those players who can be a match-winner in all three departments and after making merry in the World Cup, he is looking forward to providing more entertainment in South Africa. He said Twenty20 cricket was the most instinctive form of the game.

Sri Lanka hammer Kenya by 172 runs 2007-09-14 08:16:00 Mahela Jayawardene's Sri Lanka
smashed the record score in Twenty20 internationals to trounce Kenya
by 172 runs at the Wanderers.Jayawardene's men piled up a gargantuan 260 for six after being asked to bat first by the African minnows in the World Twenty20 contest and powered their way past Australia's previous high of 221 for six against England in Sydney earlier this year. Master blaster Sanath Jayasuriya savaged 88 from only 44 balls and Jayawardene scored at an even quicker rate, his ability to execute elegant strokes powerfully reaping 65, off only 27 deliveries. Yet they were outdone by a spectacular cameo from Jehan Mubarak, who struck five sixes and three fours to reach 46 from a dozen balls. One more boundary would have obliterated Mohammad Ashraful's record for the fastest half-century, a 20-ball effort against West Indies yesterday, but he missed the final delivery of the innings, sent down by Peter Ongondo, completely. Medium-pacer Lameck Onyango took the brunt of the pu Read more:Sri Lanka
Dravid resigns as India captain 2007-09-14 07:55:00 Rahul Dravid has resigned as India
captain with immediate effect. In a letter written to the Indian board, he has asked to be relieved of the captaincy before Australia's forthcoming tour of India, beginning later this month. The board president, Sharad Pawar, said Dravid told him of his wish to step down, with immediate effect, when they met on Thursday. "He said, 'The selectors have placed faith in me to lead continuously for two years and I'm grateful for that'", Pawar said. "He said he would like to concentrate on his batting and the opportunity should be given to a new person to lead the side." "He has discussed the issue with me twice. I think we need to respect his decision," Pawar said. Dravid had opted out of the ICC World Twenty20 currently on in South Africa and the captaincy of that team was handed to Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

have never lost to Pakistan
in the World Cup” alive, India clinched ICC Twenty20 world Cup trophy by upsetting Pakistan in the final at the Wanderers on Monday.Misbah-ul-Haq of Pakistan managed to steer Pakistan from worst defeat but he too could not help Pakistan to win the ICC Twenty20 world Cup final.
