Eleni Karaindrou - L'africana (1991) 2007-08-20 09:28:00 This is another Karaindrou that comes close to her discovery years ago; Jan Garbarek. Since than she felt a bond with his 'Slavic' music. Mia Aioniotita Kai Mia Mera also had portions of it. In terms of jazz L'Africana is very near. Everything is full of beautiful stillness with upper mighty piano pieces in relation to jazz, providing a instantly overwhelming powerful emotion. The true revelation for the film and score fanciers will probably occur much later, as various layers becomee more above the surface and one understands the complexity. L'Africana sounds like the easiest score she ever did, and true in a way because many find this a easy, relax listening (and sadly not more than that). Appereance can be deceiving. Again she was able to bring write something very poetic for a woman, who seeks for true love in Africa after her best friend stole her boyfriend. All these aformentioned people contributed very much to the rise of the Mellotron in the late Sixties. The 8 page booklet contain a foreword by Alan Freeman and a story about the Mellotron, short but comprehensive and very pleasant to read.The CD delivers 18 tracks in which we can enjoy the Mellotron in all its splendor: voices, electric guitar, violins, choirs, sound effects, harps, waltz, backward piano (!), Hammond organ, boys choir, flutes, vibes, 16 voice choir, female choir, oboe, trumpet, Spanish guitar, mandolin, strings, brass and saxes.
