Our Lady Peace - Thief Music Video Tribute
2007-08-12 20:45:00
This is one of those songs that not many people know about but it is one of my all time favorites. The music video itself is nothing tremendous but the song is something to be treasured. The video basically just shows the band members getting drenched by a downpour. They don't seem phased and they have some pretty cool slow motion shots of the water falling on their faces. The song itself is actually about a young girl they knew that had a brain tumor. The "Thief " inside her head refers to the tumor itself. The video does a good job to set the mood of the song and you can almost see the helplessness in the band member's eyes. The rain doesn't seem to bother them because they are too concerned for the young girl's life and feel that they can do nothing to help her. The song starts out with such powerful lyrics, that if you listen carefully to the words, it almost gives you the chills. "I don't want to understand this horror /There's a weight in your eyes that I can't admit...". I

Jimmy Eat World's New Album Chase This Light
2007-08-10 19:50:00
One of my favorite bands and a highly underrated one at that, Jimmy Eat World has set a release date for their new album. "Chase This Light" is set to hit stores October 16th. The band finished up recording back in May and are currently out touring in Europe. For this tour they have said they are playing some of their more mellower songs. Getting a chance to hear Polaris or 23 live would be incredible. They are also playing some of their new songs too so this tour is really not something you want to miss out on. I am really excited about this album, and so is the band. They have said that they are hoping that from now on their won't be so much time between released. If this new album is anything like their first three, it surely won't disappoint. The new album was produced by Butch Vig, famous for producing albums for Nirvana and the newly revived Smashing Pumpkins. I will have more updates on this album and the singles to be released in the near future. This fall should be a good o

Matchbox Twenty Is Back!
2007-08-05 14:44:00
And after about a three month hiatus, I am back as well. I was watching some Music Choice today, much like any other day and I came across Matchbox Twenty's new single, "How Far We've Come". I had to look twice to realize that it was in fact Matchbox Twenty and that the release date was indeed 2007. This is great news for any alternative music fan that was not all together thrilled with Rob Thomas' solo career. Although it was fairly successful for Rob, it didn't carry the same flavor that the group as a whole brings. Hopefully when they release their new album, "Exile on Mainstream" on October 2nd, they will revive some of that lost 90s music magic. I am really looking forward to it as well as the tour that will most likely follow the release. The new single isn't anything that blew me away but nonetheless a solid single and a break from some of the less than stellar songs out right now. There website, www.matchboxtwenty.com, has been updated to promote the new album but there is

SNL In The 90s: A Look At The Music
2007-05-06 23:33:00
A great recap to a great decade. Saturday Night Live is a show that I really have enjoyed over the last decade or so. From Chris Farley to Chris Rock, this show was stacked with comedic geniuses. This television special had plenty of commentary from almost all the great cast members of the 1990s but it was lacking a little in the video clips. With such a long span to cover, it was hard to fit everything into a two hour special but I think that they did a good job. You really go wrong with Chris Farrley's Matt Foley skit or Will Farrell's Cowbell performance. It was really fun to see all the old cast members come back to talk about the golden age of SNL that was the early 90s. The cool thing about it was that their were only a few missing from the commentary, the only one that I noticed was Adam Sandler. Me, being such a avid 90s music fan, loved that fact that they included a bunch of past performances from so many good bands. The musical acts have always been an intricate part of Sa

Featured Song: Paint the Silence by South
2007-05-05 00:02:00
This is the first of many featured song articles I am going to write this summer. I though I would start it off with one of my recent favorites. This song was brought to my attention by a friend of mine and ever since I just can't stop listening to it. South is a British rock band that formed in 1998. South is a band that is not very popular in the US yet but they have been compared to bands like Oasis and The Verve. They got some press when this song was featured on the popular television show, The OC. I haven't had a chance to listen to a lot of their music but this song is very good. Paint the Silence is a song that doesn't come around too often and leaves you wanting more. The lyrics speak of frustration and a longing for something better. You can hear a live version of the song along with a video here. If you prefer to just hear the studio version of the song, check it on imeem here. Please let me know what you think of the song and if you want, make some recommendations for si

New Switchfoot Single: Awakening
2007-05-03 22:58:00
Hey guys, the summer is finally here and I will be posting almost everyday now. I will bringing you all the music news that you can handle along with some reviews and of course, the weekly playlists. This time I would just like to bring to your attention Switchfoot's new single, Awakening. As you can see by reading my review of their album here, that I correctly predicted that this would be the next single and it is a good one at that. The new music video, which I will post at the end of this article, was released about a month ago but I have yet to hear it on the radio or see it on MTV. Hopefully it will get some airplay this summer. This video is great, one of my favorites from Switchfoot. As a avid guitar hero fan, I found this video to accurately portray the average Guitar Hero addict. The music video is hilarious and the song is great, not much more to say. Check it out.

Summer Hits Playlist
2007-04-16 21:03:00
Wow, has it been a long time. My lack of posting has been rather pathetic and I appologize. The summer is just around the corner and I will be posting a lot more often, updating you with music news, reviews and more playlists. For this playlist I wanted to give you a little taste of summer as the school year is almost over and hopefully this cold april weather is going to heat up this week. These ten songs might seem very random but they are some of my favorite songs and either have something to do with summer or just remind me of the season. I would just like to point out one song in particular, "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" by Jason Mraz. This song really has nothing to do with summer but I can remember listening to it constantly just a few summers ago and it seems that it is a song that might have been forgotten. I thought I would bring to light some classics like OMC and some songs you might not of heard of like "Just watch the Fireworks". Hopefully I can get a couple more posts in

Best Slow Songs of the 90s
2007-03-19 22:06:00
Another Monday and this time I thought I would once again go a little off topic from rock music and bring to you a great set of ten slow songs. I am pretty sure that all of these songs come from the 1990s and they are all classic high school dance songs. My favorite from this list has to be Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby", such a classic. It is almost spring time so I though this playlist would be appropriate for the upcoming season. I hope you enjoy it and thanks for listening.Top 10 Songs You Should Know - Week 17 - March 19-25 20071. Mariah Carey - Always Be My Baby2. Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply3. St. Patrick's Day Playlist
2007-03-12 21:30:00
This Saturday is none other then St. Patrick 's and there is nothing better then putting on some Irish music while you have a good time. I picked some songs that have to do with the holiday specifically or just have a celtic or irish tune to them. You might recognize the first song from the movie Boondock Saints, a St. Patrick's Day favorite. It was fairly hard to come up with a solid ten songs but I think I did a pretty good job. Check it out and enjoy.Top 10 Songs You Should Know - Week 16 - March 12-18 20071. Jeff & Mychael Danna - The Blood of Cu Chulainn2. John Mayer - St. Patrick's Day3. Celtic Woman - May it Be4. The Itunes Shuffle Playlist
2007-03-05 21:10:00
Another Monday playlist for you to enjoy. I just realized how busy these next two weeks will be for me but I am going to try my best to keep up my posts. For this playlist I thought it would be fun to get a good mix of 10 random songs selected by Itunes. I thought this sample would give a good representation of the kind of music I listen to everyday. I just hope that nothing embarrasing comes up. Thanks for listening and I hope you find something that you like.Top 10 Songs You Should Know - Week 15 - March 5-11 20071. Natalie Imbruglia - Torn2. Semisonic - Singing In My Sleep Music Video Tribute
2007-03-02 12:20:00
Alright, as I hope you have noticed, I have been my posting frequency has been lack luster at best lately. I even missed the the weekly playlist this week. It is getting a little out of hand. I would just like to say that I am back and should be posting about 4 times a week. I figured it would be fun to kick off this return with a great music video that you probably have never seen. This video has that classic 90s music video feel and shows them just rocking out. The album "Feeling Strangely Fine" is underrated as a whole and this song flew under the radar as well. You might know Semisonic best for their song "Closing Time", which was a big radio hit in 1998. Dan Wilson, front man of the band, recently won the Song of the Year Grammy for his work with the Dixie Chicks, co-writing the song, "Not Ready To Make Nice". Here's the video

90's Minor Hits Playlist
2007-02-19 21:04:00
Wow, did last week fly bye. It was an unexpectedly busy week for me so I apologize for the lack of new articles. This week I want to dedicate this playlist to all those minor alternative radio rock hits that got some well deserved air play but not enough in my mind. You have probably have heard these but let them fall through the cracks. There are some solid tracks here and hopefully this playlist will give some new life to these great songs. I just want to point out one song in particular that I think you should check out. "I Think God Can Explain" by Splender is just one of those songs that I am really glad that I rediscovered. Hope you find at least one song that brings back some memories. Thanks for listening.Top 10 Songs You Should Know - Week 14 - Feb. 19-25 20071. Toadies - Possum Kingdom2. Top Ten Unknown Songs From My Favorite Artists
2007-02-12 21:44:00
Oh man have I been busy this week. I wasn't able to a featured artist last week but look out for one this week. I definitely will be posting more this week. For this playlist I thought that I would treat you with some of my favorite music from bands that I really enjoy. Chances are that you might not of heard these before. These will be from familiar bands but nothing that was ever played on the radio. I tried to put my them in descending order according to how much I like each artist, my favorite being on top and tenth favorite as number ten. This doesn't necessarily mean that the particular songs are in that order though. I had a really tough time narrowing it down to ten artists but I think that this will really give you a sense of my musical taste. This is probably my favorite playlist to date and it contains some of my all time favorite songs. Anyways, here it is and hope you enjoy it.Top 10 Songs You Should Know - Week 13 - Feb. 12-18 20071. It is the first monday in Febuary and a great time to imagine what the summer months will bring. With negative temperatures all over the US, you can't help but think of the warm weather to come. This playlist will feature some of the music that I love to blast in my car's speakers. I enjoy listening to a little rap when in the car but I will keep this playlist with the normal theme of alternative rock. This week I think I am going to go back to the normal format of the playlist but provide a link to the imeem playlist. I think this will accomadate everyone's needs. RSS readers can see the playlist and follow the links, and if they choose, follow the link to listen to the playlist in full. Artist of the Week: Vertical Horizon
2007-02-03 15:30:00
It is time for a new article type for Rizzo Music, Artist of the Week. I was thinking about a song of the week but since we have a playlist of ten great songs every week as well as tributes to music videos, I don't think that a song of the week is necessary. Instead we will have an Artist of the Week where every Saturday, I will write an article displaying the great music of one artist. In these articles I will try to direct you to some cool media involved with each band including music videos and acoustic versions of songs. This week I thought I would start with Vertical Horizon, one of my favorite bands. I have been listening to these guys a lot lately, mainly their two major label releases. I recently discovered the full album of "Everything You Want", not just the four singles that they released from the album. Almost everyone has heard their ever popular "Everything You Want" single that was constantly played on the radio at the close of the millennium. This is just the tip of the

The Verve Pipe - The Freshman Music Video Tribute
2007-01-31 22:13:00
This tribute is long overdue. "The Freshman " by The Verve Pipe is one of those songs that you either love or you hate. The song propelled The Verve Pipe into stardom and helped their album, "Villains", go platinum. This was indeed their biggest hit and for good reason. I am a fan of a lot of their songs but this one is their best and has so much history for me personally. This is one of the first songs where I could sing every line word for word. It also came out at a time when I first started to follow mainstream music and began to listen to the radio quite frequently. I can still remember watching the video in my living room and hearing it countless times on the radio. Although this song is about ten years old, I never get tired of hearing it. The song as well as the video is filled with such a powerful presence and emotion. I always found the lyrics confusing and didn't find out what he wouldn't "be held responsible" for but according to Wikipedia and other sources, the lead singe

Rizzo Music's Top Ten Songs of 2006 Playlist
2007-01-29 21:44:00
It's another Monday and with a newly revamped site, it's time to update the format of our playlists. From now on I will try to make Imeem playlists so that everyone can have easy access to listening to these great songs. Of course, not every song is on imeem so I have decided to make honorable mentions for those left of the list due to unavailablity. Once again, you can add me as a friend on Imeem here if you haven't already. My profile is still a work in progress but it should be done fairly soon. This week's playlist features some of my favorite songs released in 2006. Of course I can't fit all of them on to a 10 song playlist but this selection is more to draw your attention to 10 great albums more than the individual songs released in 2006.Top 10 Songs You Should Know - Week 11 - Jan. 29-Feb. 4 2007Honorable mentions include:"The Guy that Says Goodbye to You is Out of His Mind" - Griffin House"With A Bullet" - Sam Roberts"Running Away" - Lifehouse"The End of the World" - Gin B

Switchfoot - Oh! Gravity Album Review
2007-01-27 22:37:00
Switchfoot is a post-grunge band from California that made it big in 2003 with "Meant to Live" and "Dare you to Move" off their album "The Beautiful Letdown". That album is one of favorite albums of the last few years. There is not one song on that album that I would ever think of skipping over. They then went on to release "Nothing is Sound" with a fairly big hit "Stars". I was not as impressed with this effort as their previous album but there were plenty of songs to note, such as "Lonely Nation" and "The Shadow Proves the Sunshine".Then came "Oh! Gravity.", released on December 26th 2006 with 12 new tracks (3 bonus tracks at the end) and a running time of 51:57. This is their third album in four years and they continue touring rigorously. They are really dedicated to their fans and it shows. The album kicks off with their new single "Oh! Gravity", a song full of energy with politically charged lyrics. This is nothing new for them, as a lot of their previous songs have spoken out on

How to Hack/Edit New/Beta Blogger for 3 Columns and Add a Banner
2007-01-26 21:42:00
Hey everyone! I finally got around to learning how to manipulate the blogger html. I really like how it turned out. I first changed the template, did some serious manipulation that took about 2 hours to post my banner and make the site three columns (without the help of this tutorial, it shouldn't take you that long). If you would like to know how I accomplished this I would be glad to tell you. I would really like some feedback on the new layout though so be sure to write a comment, it will really help me out.If you follow these instructions, you can make your blogger website very similar to mine. First I had to make the banner which is still a work in progress but I like how it turned out. I used a program called GIMP 2.0. This free utility is a lot like Adobe's Photoshop but with less features and overall just harder to work with. It is kind of a hard download so if you have any trouble installing it, just email me. I have been using it for about 2 years though now so I have some

Interesting Music Websites Reviewed - Part One
2007-01-24 21:41:00
I have decided that I need to start blogging more, I think I finally got the bug. I have gotten my traffic up over the last couple months and feel like some people are finally starting to read my blog so I think it would be best if I tried to post about five times a week instead of two. Hopefully even more people will start to read this if I make it interesting and informative. I will still continue with the somewhat popular Monday playlist, just try to add new sections like the one I am currently writing. The first website I would like to bring to your attention is called iLike. It is currently in beta, and a relatively new website. I was surfing the Internet one day and came across it. I registered, downloaded and I am up and running. This website is a little similar to last.fm and pandora.com but is more centered towards the ever popular Itunes program. At iLike you can create a music profile, download an add-on to Itunes that will upload your playcount for your songs. This program

90's Music Playlist
2007-01-22 18:09:00
It's is another monday in January and its time for another group of songs formed together in an ordered list. This week we have a theme to the playlist which is 90's Music . All of these songs were released prior to the year 2000 and after 1989 to the best of my knowledge. I figured that if I began to theme these playlists, perhaps more would listen to them collectively and not just pick and choose. These are not necessarily my top ten songs from the 1990s but are from some great 90s bands and I have chosen one song from each year. They are ordered in a way that the first song starts out at 1990 and the last is 1999. These songs were more popular then most of the songs I put up here but I tried to pick a song that defined the year for me. 1998 was definitely the hardest year from me to pick as there were some many good songs released that year. Hope you enjoyed another rendition of "Top 10 Songs You Should Know" and thanks for listening.Top 10 Songs You Should Know - Week 10 - Jan. 22

Matchbox Twenty - Push Music Video Tribute
2007-01-19 19:23:00
This song is probably up there with my top ten favorite songs. This song never gets old, no matter how many times you listen to it. This was Matchbox Twenty's first huge hit and lauched them in to the mainstream rock scene for many years to come. Of course, as you know, Rob Thomas started his solo career but there is still hope that Matchbox Twenty will once again reunite for another album. The music video is great and brings you back to a time of classic 90s songs. It has a lot of emotion to it, just like the song and you can't beat the scarecrow imagery. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I did. Thanks for listening.

Better Than Ezra - "Live Again" Live At The House Of Blues In New Orleans
2007-08-15 21:36:00
First of all I would like to say that this is one of my favorite songs and not just by Better Than Ezra. The studio version is great but the live one brings that extra edge to it. It starts off with a piano solo and the kicks off to one of Kevin's classic explanations of what the song is all about. I've had the pleasure to see these guys in concert a couple of times and they are great live. Kevin has a great stage presence and is usually really funny with his comments between songs. If your a Better Than Ezra fan and have a chance to go see them, they surely won't disappoint. Though they are past their prime in terms of mainstream popularity they still have a good fan base and tour fairly consistently year round. Anyway, I was listening to their live album today and I came across this song and thought I would share it with you. It's a good one, hope you like it. "Enough Said."

Female Artists of the 90s Playlist
2007-08-14 20:34:00
After a long hiatus, it is back to the playlists. They have been fairly popular in the past and I hope that they continue to be. This time Rizzo Music takes a look back on some artists that don't get enough credit. There were several female artists that defined a section of the music being developed in the 90s. There was the pop side, with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jenifer Lopez, which I tried to stay away from. Then there was the side that I enjoyed, with deep ballads from Sarah Mclachlan and alternative rock from the hugely popular Alanis Morissette. Here I showcase my top ten female artists from the 90s with No Doubt thrown in there because to ignore the impact this group had on the music world would be a shame. Most likely you will recognize most of these songs as all of them were fairly popular. My favorites from this list have to be the first two songs with Sarah's "Sweet Surrender" and Jewel's "Hands". That's it for this week. Hope you enjoyed it.Top 10 Songs Y

Collective Soul's New Album "Afterwards"
2007-08-17 22:08:00
Collective Soul is still alive and kicking. One of the most popular rock bands of the 90s, they scored big hits with "Shine", "Heavy", "Run", "The World I Know", "Precious Declaration", and "December". They have recently released their new single, "Hollywood", which is now availiable for download on itunes. They also revamped their website at www.collectivesoul.com where you can listen to the new single for free. The website is looking a lot more professional then their previous one and it is a lot easier to navigate. They are currently on tour with Live and Counting Crows promoting their new single as well as their new album, "Afterwards", to be released this month on the 28th. At their shows they are giving out music download cards to the first 300 attendees for the opportunity to download "Hollywood" for free. I had a chance to hear Collective Soul in concert with Live this summer and they were outstanding. They played some of their new album and it sounded pretty good. I am a pret

RizzoMusic's Recently Discovered Songs Playlist
2007-08-22 20:59:00
Lately I have been listening to a lot of music, most of which I never heard before. A lot of it has been from some of my favorite artists, but some have just been random songs that I have come across. I have been going through some old albums as well as some new ones and I decided to make a new playlist with some of my new favorites. I would just like to make a note of Dishwalla, a band that I recently rediscovered and started to listen to them extensively. Know most for their classic radio hit, "Counting Blue Cars", they are a band that is much deeper then their one hit wonder status. If you happen to like "Coral Sky", which is in this playlist, I suggest you check out more of their latest album, which is self-titled. Some of my favorites from that album are "Above The Wreckage", "Collide" and "40 Stories". If your more of a fan of their older music you should definitely check out their "Live... From The Flow State" album. Well, that's it for this week. Hope you enjoyed it.Top 10 Son

Collective Soul - "Afterwords" Album Review
2007-08-30 09:13:00
Collective Soul's new album "Afterwords" was released on August 28th on Itunes and at Target. Unfortunately for me, my digital music store of choice, Rhapsody, does not have the new album. So I just decided to listen to the new album in it's entirety at CollectiveSoul.com where if you click on the boombox on the table in the group picture you can control each track. I was thinking of buying the album at Target but listing on Target.com says that the album is 31.98 and will be released September 5th.
