Christmas or New Year? 2007-10-21 14:26:00 Kathy tagged me, and she wants to know which of the two holidays I prefer more.Hmmm, pretty tough, but I think I can very well rationalize and tell you why New Year
is "it" for me.All my life, prior to getting married, I celebrated both holidays the conventional way, as most Pinoys do. After marriage though, and living in the US, celebrating the two holidays drastically changed. My husband, as you may know by now, if you've been tuned in to this journal for quite a while, is practicing the Jewish religion. I shouldn't even say "practicing" because he's not after all a religious Jew or an Orthodox Jew. He does the bare minimum and as form of respect to the Jewish religion, he just observe the high holidays in the Jewish calendar by being off from work. Yeah, and they don't celebrate Christmas
. They have their own holiday equivalent to Christmas, called Hanukkah or festival of lights. It's a week long celebration where kids receive gifts every night of the seven nights after the cele
Les Miserables 2007-10-20 21:00:00 We just came home from Manhattan. It was a long day, but it was well worth it.We arrived at Broadway about 1:15 p.m. for the 2:00 p.m. matinee and the line was so long. Soon enough the long line was already moving, a signal that people were already allowed entry into Broadhurst Theater. The theater was filled to the rafters. We were seated in Orchestra and I really loved it because we saw every single facial expression of the performers. It's great to be seated close enough to the stage.Lea Salonga as always was awesome. The depth and good quality of her voice hasn't changed. The last time we saw her was during her stint with Flower Drum Song. The rest of the casts were also very good. Really a show that's very well worth every penny spent.Oh, and I can tell you too, that Lea was very accommodating. You're probably expecting that it would have been me requesting for a photograph with her, but you're very well mistaken. Here's the proof: Frank unshaven and all w/ LeaHere's some m
Pumpkin pie 2007-10-19 16:34:00 Believe it or not, I haven't seen the world since Monday afternoon. Yup, I haven't been out for that long. Last night before turning in, I made sure I had a good idea on how the weather was going to be today. I heard it was gonna be a rainy day, and for sure I didn't want to go out and get soaked. Forecast last night indicated rain in the afternoon.I had this craving for my all time favorite lemon ring cake from my nearby Italian Bakery, Angelo's. So, my wake-up time was rather early at 10:30 (so completely not me, especially on a Friday). By 12:30, I was already heading out and it was already drizzling. When I was all ready to pull out of the parking area, there goes the downpour. I was about to just give up and not go, but I couldn't disregard my cravings.I went ahead, waited a few minutes inside the car for the rain to diminish, but the downpour just wouldn't stop. I had no recourse but to get off the car and head into the bakery. When I got in, my cravings for the lemon ring Read more: Pumpkin

Online store 2007-10-27 15:12:00 After Frank's first selling experience online, he is now seriously considering putting up his own online store. Long day 2007-10-27 14:15:00 Yesterday was one of those days when I vowed to get out of bed and get going early. I sure did and for once, Frank didn't have a hard time waking me up.It was gonna be a soggy and rainy day as per weather forecast, with the rain coming in the afternoon. I wanted to run to Costco for my regular household stuff. We were off to an early and quick breakfast by 9:00 a.m at the Vegas Diner. Sure enough, we were on our way to Costco about 15 minutes to 11:00, just in time for the store's opening. There was a little delay en route to the store because of some roadworks. And once in the store, who would have thought there's another delay just to get in. The escalator going to the upper level was not working. Right by the entrance, store personnel are informing shoppers that if they need to go up to the second level, going there first is a better way and just get a shopping cart once you're up there.Shoppers had to wait in line to get on a lift to the second floor. We got on the commercial

Wide awake 2007-10-27 01:39:00 It's almost 3:00 a.m. and I'm wide awake. My mind is just pre-occupied. Hubby has been snoozing since 11:00 p.m. because he's probably just spent from his work-out in the gym. Otherwise, he'd be up with me even at this hour. Most of the days when he's off from work, he really tries hard to keep up with "the night owl". He's been going to the gym everyday since Tuesday so, I have nobody for company at this wee hour of the morning. It sure is going to be another 1:00 p.m. wake up time for me. It's just annoying when you can't sleep, so instead of lying in bed it's a lot better to just be up and get busy.Oh well, I just hope I won't get a headache again.

Seem like it was only yesterday when she didn't even want to wear dresses and skirts, or anything "too girlie". Now, she's into all the feminine stuff that girls and women love. Happy birthday, Elise!

iPod shuffle on eBay 2007-10-25 17:09:00 My husband was a happy camper yesterday. He was so excited as he closed on his first sale on eBay. I didn't know it was that exciting to see the bidding come to an end.Frank registered with eBay more than a year ago but didn't really go for anything. He set up his account with the idea of selling some of his Sports Cards collection. Remember this post on this blog?So for fun I think 8 days ago, he listed on eBay an un-opened, factory sealed iPod
Shuffle that we have here at home. He didn't have any single bid for the first 5 days, so we thought that was it. Three days ago though, one potential buyer placed a bid for the minimum price he was asking for which was $55. At the very last day of bidding, bids started to pour in and we ended with 14 bids, the highest bid of which was $70.62.Finally the iPod Shuffle is gone. We sent out the item to the winner today. That was a good preliminary selling experience for Frank. Now, he's all fired up and encouraged to list his collection of Spo
Question 2007-10-25 17:08:00 Juliana, my namesake, a blogger friend, forwarded me this question. Yes it's another meme, what can I tell you? Here goes...if you only have 24 more hours to live and you can do anything you want in the world, what would you do?My answer: That 24 hours is sure not going to be enough for me. But being that you're so STRICT (pwede extension?), I will try to do what's on this list as fast as I can.eat all kinds of food that I used to deprived myself of, for fear of gaining too much weight.I will take my last pampering bath(probably be on a jacuzzi leisurely for 2 hours).go to church and talk to my God.spend the rest of that 24 hours with my one and only love. Thanks Juliana, next time, don't be too strict with me hehehe. This is it for today...in My World. Headache 2007-10-24 20:21:00 I had a headache all day today. It just won't go away even after the usual meds I'm used to taking--Aleve. I haven't had this for quite sometime. I guess, it's because of lack of sleep but I think the best way to state it is: it's because I've been turning in so late. Last night, I went to bed at 2:30 a.m. I had my full 8 hours of sleep but as they say, nothing compares to sleeping at night. Come to think about it, I really didn't sleep last night, I slept this morning ha..ha..ha.Now, should I wonder why this headache just won't go away? Read more: Headache
It's a Sony... 2007-10-24 19:35:00 Do you remember when Sony
Corporation came up with the slogan and embellished their TV's with: It's a Sony...? Yeah, those were the days, in the 80's I believe. I guess, that strategy worked because they had that campaign for quite awhile. Why am I writing about this, you're probably wondering. Just to let you know, I'm not getting paid, people. My husband is a Sony lover. I wish I can post a picture of his 18 year old Sony 27" TV(those black colored ones) but I don't have a pic of it. That dear old TV of Frank died a year ago. It just simply went black one night as I was watching. Frank wanted to get a new one when we moved 3 years ago, but I firmly said no. I wanted to keep the old piece, it was still working. The deal was, he'll replace it when it dies. So when it turned black that fateful night all he could say was: "there's a God!", meaning God finally answered his wish.As fast as lightning, we head out to get a replacement. We bought and take it home just that one trip to
Magazine subscriptions 2007-10-24 19:18:00 Do you ever wonder how these magazine publishing companies don't get tired of sending subscription offers? Of course, we know they have to do that to generate business.I'm just swamped with these offers every single day, and shredding these junk has become an added chore for me.Like I want one more magazine to subscribe to? Currently, I already have 21 magazines coming in every month. To date, I'm only up to issues in August. Oh well, I'll get there. I just wish, I'm reading the current issues. I really don't know when I'll get to the current issues. I stay home alright, but I also do chores in the house. There's just not enough time. Like last Monday, because I was forced to get up early, I was able to accomplish a lot. And did I mention I was able to do 7 scrapbook layouts? I'm happy about that because believe it or not, I'm still doing the scrapbook from our renewal of vows held in Manila in 2005. Although, we have the digital album c/o our official photographer, I still w Read more: Magazine

Eyeglasses 2007-10-23 19:35:00 Hey, my husband is a willing participant, so I'm posting his pics. We went to pick up his new eye wear (Bulgari) today and he likes it a lot. He's been using transition lenses for years already, thus he doesn't need to have a separate prescription sunglasses. Then NowBagay ba?
Better half 2007-10-23 18:07:00 Hey Francine, makulit ka, but you're sweet kaya sige na. Anyway, I'm game for it.This tag is simple. If you feel comfortable and your better half does too, you can post a picture of him in your blog ( but if not a description will do). It can be a baby picture or anything that you like with the following:1. First name: if he doesn’t like his name plastered all over the internet, a pet name will do.2. How and where did you meet?3. Characteristics4. Your plans 20 to 30 years from now.First of all, Frank's name and face is plastered all over this blog, hence posting his picture is irrelevant, right? My husband is not camera shy. Getting him to pose all the time is really easy(o say nyo?).It was really meant to be and bound to happen when we met. It was one of those usual 30 day break from work when I met him. Coming to the US then, was my fave vacation and New York for me was the best US destination because of the allure of shopping. I knew him through my sister, whose been living in
Villeroy & Boch 2007-10-23 17:09:00 Entertaining guests, or having people over is not an easy task. It sure is not considered a task if you enjoy being around the people you like and you love. At this day and age though, when we think fast and hassle free is the mantra, we would normally serve guests using our finest paper/disposable plates and cutlery. After all, we now have Chinet (supposedly the fine kind of disposable brand). For me though, with much respect to those that serve their guests using their finest disposables( to each his own, right?), I find it kind of improper to use disposables when I have guests over. I maybe old fashioned, but it's just the way I want to do it.I invite guests over, because they are important to me. And being that they are dear and important, they deserve to be treated the best way I possibly can. Thus, when we have guests, instead of using our everyday tableware, and silverware taking out my finer pieces from the credenza is in order. I love to use my Villeroy & Boch Switch 3 Col

Late Halloween treat 2007-10-31 19:56:00 Francine gave me this Halloween
treat
.I'm saying it's late not because it was given to me late. I'm posting it late because I didn't visit her site early enough to claim my treat, in time for Halloween. As of press time, I think kids are now done trick or treating. The doorbell suddenly stopped ringing. Kakapagod! It was another merry Halloween night with the gorgeous weather here in our part of the globe. Till next year folks. Thanks Francine, for the treat and I hope you'll give me another one next year. Can you complete the treat with a nice fairy godmother costume?
Car insurance 101 2007-10-31 19:45:00 We needed to renew our car insurance
policy a month ago, and I took the matter into my hands. I think our car insurance rate was way too high considering that my husband and I have pristine driving records. Our car is now four years old and I thought it was time to look elsewhere if our insurance company can't give us a more competitive rate.I wanted to arm myself with enough knowledge about the car insurance industry, to give me more leverage when I'd bargain for car insurance quotes for our four year old car. I found a very informative site online - carinsurancerates.com. It's so easy to navigate that I got too engrossed I went from page to page. There's a guide too on how to secure affordable car insurance. This section of the website was very important in my case, as my objective was to really look for an insurance company that can give me the best deal. On top of the usual factors like age, location, driving record and credit history, I found out that if, for example you are i
Starving 2007-10-31 17:33:00 It's just too tempting to raid the pantry for junk food. I'm starving! I don't know why, but I had another round of my smoked "tawilis" at about 2:00 p.m. today yet, I'm hungry again. It's already 6:35 p.m., and I won't have dinner til 9:00. You know, that's the usual time for us.My tawilis is done and gone. I'll have to drive 20 miles to get my Philippine food supply. When? I don't know. Driving is such a hassle with the usual gargantuan New York traffic. That's it folks, gotta go have my "before supper treat". Happy Halloween everyone! Enjoy the candies, but don't overdo it. UK on my mind 2007-10-31 15:46:00 It's been 4 years ago. Yes, it's been that long since we visited the United Kingdom, but that experience is still vividly remembered. I remember that early morning when we landed at the Gatwick Airport, I was still so groggy from that 7 hours flight from New York.We didn't have that much time though, as we stayed mostly in London for 5 days. There's a lot of sights to see. Of course, going to Buckingham Palace was the highlight of the visit for me. I was just too excited to visit the Queen *lol*. Oh, and how can I forget, the London Bridge. The next time, if ever there's a next time, which I hope there will be, I am looking forward to visiting Edinburgh and Manchester. Edinburgh, traditionally beautiful as it is, plus it's renowned museums and galleries must be awesome. Add to that, the castle in Scotland right within the background, is probably a sight to behold. Finding Edinburgh accommodation is not a problem, I know. Edinburgh Hotels are aplenty. I have checked out on the Sc
Creative, really? 2007-10-31 15:39:00 Recel handed me down this award. I'm just so flattered, I don't know what to say. This is the second time I'm getting this award, that's why.Being gracious, is the best response, right? Thank you, thank you very much, Recel. Loving Caribbean 2007-10-31 14:52:00 That vacation to Aruba last September, I must say, was really very relaxing. I'm saying this, because sometimes there are other destinations we visit and for some reason, we wind up needing a vacation after that vacation. My husband and I agree that we have immensely enjoyed all of the Caribbean
vacations we've taken together so far.So what does that mean? It means, I will have to scout for more Caribbean destination that's suitable to us. It's probably gonna be a choice between Cayman Islands or the Bahamas. This time, I think planning is going to be much easier, because I just stumbled upon goin2travel.com, a site where I can check out available vacation rentals. I have checked out the listing under Bahamas vacation rentals and the Waterways condo located in the southwest part of Nassau looks so enticing. Prices are really competitive too. Frank prefers to visit Cayman Islands, so who will win? It's such a dilemma because I prefer Bahamas. Cayman Islands vacation rentals that ar Read more: Loving
