Early Halloween treat
2007-10-12 21:19:00
I've visited Shabem a few days ago and I was randomly picked to get this early Halloween treat .Ain't these yummy? It really reminds me of the real taste of candied apple that we're used to getting at Astroland. We can't get them now, as summer is over and most of the shops there are now closed. Guess, I will have to be satisfied just looking at these sweet treats for now.I'm randomly picking several people that visited my site today to pass this treat on to. As instructed, I should not just choose my friends, as this will make this game cliquish and 'just groupies'..."Make NEW friends by choosing random visitors!"This treat, I'm passing on to: Juliana , Arlene , Recel , MariThis is it for today...in My World. This is it for today...in My World.

Cell phone hazard
2007-10-11 16:12:00
Alert! This is a must read!!!!This incident happened a few months ago sometime towards the end of spring. I just didn't remember to write about it but I got reminded today when I was on the phone with my sister. My sister's friend is now in the Burn Unit at one of the hospitals here in New York. She's still there and no one can say when she's going to be discharged. Why??? On that beautiful weekend she was busy re-painting a house she just bought as an investment (house to let). This woman is also a Lawyer, an Accountant and a real estate broker. She's in her late 20's and single. That day, her father was there to help out in painting. Suddenly her cell phone rang, and she immediately ran to grab her ringing cell phone. As soon as she took the call, the cell phone was ignited and a fire ensued. Apparently, since she was painting she was also handling paint primers and thinners. There may have been a reaction between the thinner and the cell phone. The father tried hard to extingui

Swiffer
2007-10-10 17:47:00
The clean and neat freak as I am, I spent most of the day today cleaning. And when I'm cleaning, I'm so into it that the sound of the vacum is the only thing I hear. Loud as it is, I appreciate what the vacum can do for me.I was used to live-in househelp, doing the cleaning for me, when I was still in the Philippines, but I'm just glad that I know how to get around on my own. I truly appreciate and love to be around a clean and a neat environment. My Mom is a stickler to that, that's why I grew up in a spic and span home. Now on my own, without the help that I'm used to, I find ways and means to do my cleaning chore easily and comfortably. Two things I use a lot, and can never do without are the Swiffer products made by Procter & Gamble. This duster works like a charm. It delivers its claims. It really traps and locks dirt, dust and allergens. The sweeper also delivers. I have both the dry sweeping cloth (for our wood floor) and the wet sweeping cloth(used primarily on my stone k

Mandara's retired
2007-10-09 15:12:00
Yes, I found out about this last Saturday when I dropped by the Louis Vuitton store on 5th Avenue. I have been wondering why Mandara in the Epi leather line is not available in the eluxury site where LV's are being sold online. So what does this mean? I asked the associate about it, and she said that LV wants to maintain the exclusivity of the style, thus, the move to discontinue production of Mandara. When my husband heard this, the collector as he is, he floated the idea that I should stop using Mandara so it stays in good condition. Why??? Because he thinks I can sell it in the future for more than the last selling price, because then, the purse is considered a limited release.Oh my, he probably makes sense. So this is the deal: he doesn't know I'm thinking about this. I will let him know I'm going to stop using Mandara and put the purse on retirement IF I get a replacement, which means, he'll have to get me a new one. Not bad, right?Let's see how he responds. I'm crossing my f

New York, New York
2007-10-07 14:59:00
New York, New York... it's definitely not Frank Sinatra's famous song. It's simply, New York, New York-- that is: Manhattan, New York. Many know Manhattan as one of the boroughs of New York, but when it's legally written as in - officially as an address, it really is referred to as New York, New York. Most locals refer to Manhattan as the "city " hence, we normally say "we're going to the city" and it means we're going to Manhattan. In connection to yesterday's post, I wrote that it was a "must" for us to go to the city because I had a change of heart. Remember this post when we were in Aruba? Yes, I did change my mind. Good thing is, Louis Vuitton has a very liberal return policy. Within 30 days, for as long as the item isn't used and is in its original condition, you can have a store credit or exchange the product. Hey, a store credit or exchange is good enough, right? Can you imagine the loss a store like Louis Vuitton would incur if they do refunds? Why the change of heart yo

Indian summer in New York
2007-10-06 21:19:00
We started our day early today. Our trek to Manhattan was a must and what a lovely day it was. The weather was perfect(as far as I'm concerned). The Big Apple was bustling with tourists as well as locals, as you can see in these photos. These beauties are still thriving at the Rockefeller Plaza...At the skating rink, the melting ice is an indication that indeed, Indian summer is on...This is my New York , My World on a very lovely Saturday in October. Why I'm annoying
2007-10-05 21:26:00
I was tagged by Nice and I'm going to answer this as truthfully as I can. Now, please don't judge me, as I will candidly list the things that makes me a big time annoying wife.Instructions: List 7 quirks, habits, traits which makes you annoying. When you’re done, TAG 7 others to do the same.1. I love to sleep in late. I don't know but for some reason I get the best sleep in the morning. This is the time when Frank is finally up and I gain total control of the bed. Hubby's annoyed because, I normally set the alarm clock at a certain time and Frank follows up with a call while he's at work but I normally don't hear the rings of the phone. By then, I would have already turned off the alarm clock and of course, finally wake up when I feel like it. So, what's the point of setting the alarm clock, right?2. I'm a neat and a clean freak and I also love to clean and put things in order. That's why, I can't tolerate anyone messing up my domain and that doesn't spare my husband. He g

Bits and pieces
2007-10-04 17:51:00
I got one whole 10 lbs. turkey sitting in my freezer. It's been there since November last year. I'm just waiting for the colder weather to set in and I will try my hands on roasting a turkey for the first time. Why do I have this turkey for that long? I was just too anxious and ambitious to make a roast turkey but never really had enough courage to try.Colder weather? Who wants that? Officially here in New York, Indian summer is here. Believe it or not, the temperature climbed up to 82 degrees today. The next few days as per forecast, temps will remain in the 80's. Now, that turkey has to wait a little longer...I was flipping through old newspapers specifically the Daily News and New York Post dated September 25, 2007. This one caught my attention: "warning to iPhone users. Apple warns that programs available on the internet that allow iPhone to be used with service providers besides AT &T's Cingular network can irreparably damage the device. Officials said, once an Apple softw

My work place
2007-10-03 19:12:00
Hey Bless, here's a view of my work place.I have my "office" on a piece of furniture, it's so discrete, you'll never know all the office stuff are in here. This computer armoire is adorable and I love it a lot because everything is concealed. The desk part is double deck and retractable, you can slide it in and out. The drawers and shelves are more than enough to hold all my office supplies and the filing cabinet is an added bonus. As you can see, even the fax machine has it's own place. The bottom portion where the printer is located is also retractable. Here's my office:Anyone interested to show their work area too? This is it for today...in My World.

Kitchen's closed
2007-10-03 18:59:00
It must have been embedded on my mind before retiring last night, that today is NO COOKING day for me, that's why I woke up late. Yes, the husband's not having dinner at home tonight, as he is attending a mid-week party at the Twins Irish Pub on 34th & 9th.What's with this Wall Street people having a mid-week party, you might ask? I don't know, and it's a crazy idea, but it's a company function and he's going or is there right now. He had to ask me if I was interested at all to take the trek to go to Manhattan as significant others may join if they desire to go. To that, I said "no thank you very much". I'm better off staying home and not having to deal with the crowd at the subway. Plus, I have last night's left-over pot roast to munch on for dinner. What can be better than that? This is it for today...in My World.

Misdiagnosed
2007-10-03 18:28:00
It was a busy day today. Well, busy simply because in as much as I wanted to wake up earlier than the usual time, I wound up waking up at 11:30 a.m. It didn't matter that the alarm went off, and that Frank had already called on the phone 10 times. I slept through all the rings, believe it or not. So, I started my day late thus, I found myself still cleaning at 5:00 p.m. The headline news on one of the local TV station caught my attention, and I had to practically stop cleaning although, I was running late.abc news had this (Lab Mix Up Double Breast Removal)headline in the 5:00 p.m. news. I couldn't believe it. It's just so unsettling because this can happen to anybody. Going through surgery - double mastectomy only to find out later that you're really not sick of cancer. Now, I just have to ask, how many opinions do we need to seek before we should believe and follow doctor's recommendations? This is it for today...in My World. This is it for today...in My World.

Torre - Yankees part ways
2007-10-18 22:09:00
Joe Torre said: "thanks but no thanks". It's the end of an era for the New York Yankees , with their manager of 12 years, Joe Torre, turning down a 1 year contract with options.I live in New York, but am not really a passionate Yankee fan. My husband who is a true blue New Yorker, having been born and raised in New York, isn't a fan neither. I'm just a mere baseball follower and I get to watch the game only because my husband is a sports afficionado. So, what's next and what's in store for the Yankees? Only time will tell. The Yankees as a team seem to be great although, they have made a lot of blunders in the field. But which team doesn't?Let's wait and see.

Another birthday
2007-10-18 16:55:00
My younger brother, Lucas Donald a.k.a Butch, the youngest and the only brother I have actually, is celebrating his birthday today.Taken in June 2005 during our renewal of vows (5th wedding anniversary) at Makati Shangri-la How time flies. We're just getting older and older each day. He has two kids. His eldest, Thea is now 18 years old, a sophomore in college and the youngest, Kaine is graduating from high school in March 2008. His daughter is the oldest grandchild in our family, because he got married early, practically just done with his graduation march in San Sebastian. No doubt, among us 5, we are the closest. I am the youngest of 4 girls and we grew up together. Even as adults, we connected so well and we've been through good and bad times.Happy birthday, dear brother. Here's to good health and a lifetime of happiness. Cheers!

I love blogging!
2007-10-18 16:48:00
I was tagged by Crystal a new online friend from Malaysia and she wants to know why I decided to blog. Thanks for passing this on to me, Crystal.I've come across blogs for as long as I can remember, but when I was planning our renewal of vows celebration in 2004, all the more I had the big urge to get into it. As the planning was done remotely because it was held in the Philippines, I was spending a lot of time online, thus, flipping through blogs also became a part of my daily online surfing.I knew then, I wanted to put up a blog. The only question is how. I'm not a techie, and the fear was there. Besides, I didn't even have a digital camera then, because I simply resisted to get one. My thinking was, the film camera(Olympus) I had was serving me well.Thank you to the creator of this meme, Mel Kaye**Start Copy Here**We have a voice; We must be heard; Therefore we blog; Now spread the word! This meme is based on a recent post that was conducted asking the question “Why do you Blog?”

Porcupine meatballs
2007-10-17 17:24:00
Here's yet again, another food post. Lately, I've been getting tired of the usual repertoire of dishes that I make for dinner. That's why, when I planned for our meals for the next 2 weeks last Saturday(remember, I do food shopping every 2 weeks, except for veggies, which I buy every week but already included in the meal plan), I raided my "recipe library". Yeah, I call it recipe library because early on when we just got married, I was a subscriber to virtually every single food and cooking magazine around, and I also collected recipes via subscription. Trying hard as I am, I also joined and registered as member of the Cooking Club of America. Sounds funny, but it's true, because I really didn't know how to cook prior to getting hitched. Besides, I was kind of embarrassed, having all the extra time staying at home, and I can't even make one measly dinner. It was bad, I had all kinds of cuts and burns in my hands during the first year.Much of that intro, anyway, I found the recipe

Blue fish
2007-10-16 15:32:00
My obviously disturbed mind yesterday, made me whip out something in my kitchen. The result was this:Needless to say, we feasted to our hearts content on this blue fish, with sweet and sour sauce for dinner. The only thing I did differently was, instead of frying the fish, I broiled them. Trying to cook healthy is a must. My number 1 fan needs to watch his cholesterol level, that's why. Pag tumatanda nga naman *lol*.It was delicious sans the oil, you'll never even know the fish was broiled. I just sauteed some spinach and we had fishballs fried in very miniscule amount of olive oil to start.Dessert for me was just a piece of Cacao Reserve dark chocolate miniature bar. It was a tease, but it satisfied me. Frank totally skipped dessert. It's very rare that he'd say no to dessert but he said he was just "belly full".This is it for today...in My World.

Pass the Pink Penguin!
2007-10-15 12:02:00
Crystal passed on this Pink Penguin to me, and I so welcome it. I'm a staunch believer that raising breast cancer awareness is key to detection and prevention.A friend of mine has been battling the big C for about 7 years already. It was detected early on, but she was not given proper treatment. She went through mastectomy, chemo therapy and radiation, after which she was on Tamoxifen. Everything was fine, but 2 years after that, the cancer had metastasized to her liver and lymph nodes. She was strong enough to continue with her battle, so she had to undergo chemo again. In the midst of all these, would you believe she got pregnant? The pregnancy had to be terminated. Then, it was determined that she should have been taking drugs to induce menopause while taking Tamoxifen. The determination came after she switched physician and a new hospital (Memorial Sloan Kettering). Her battle continues. Two years ago, malignant tumors were found in her brain, and she had undergone gamma knife to r

Car lease
2007-10-14 16:02:00
What is so bad about leasing a car? If I was to answer this question, I would say, "Nothing. If one prefers to lease as compared to outrightly purchase, that's totally one's prerogative."I was totally appalled about the behavior of an acquaintance of mine. I say acquaintance, because this person is not really a friend. I get phone calls every once in a while from this person, of which most calls are mostly "brag calls". This person calls me whenever there's something good going on or there's a new acquisition. It doesn't matter that, I won't even bother to call or return a call. This person just keeps calling me to brag.Today was one of those days, and this time the information was, this person just "purchased" a new car, a BMW. This person changes cars EVERY THREE YEARS and makes people believe those are all outrightly purchased, not leased. Who is this person fooling? Only a person that's rolling in dough would outrightly purchase cars every three years. It just irked me, that

This came as a forwarded e-mail on my inbox. I normally just delete most, but this one got me and I enjoyed reading it towards the end. I figure, I'd share this to everyone. This is a wonderful piece by Michael Gartner, editor of newspapers large and small and president of NBC News. In 1997, he won the Pulitzer Prize foreditorial writing. It is well worth reading, and a few good chuckles are guaranteed. My father never drove a car. Well, that's not quite right. I should say I never saw him drive a car. He quit driving in 1927, when he was 25 years old, and the last car he drove was a 1926 Whippet. "In those days," he told me when he was in his 90's, "to drive a car you had to do things with your hands, and do things with your feet, and look every which way, and I decided you could walk through life and enjoy it or drive through life and miss it." At which point my mother, a sometimes salty Irishwoman, chimed in:"Oh, bull----!" she said. "He hit a horse.""Well," my father said, "there

Early Monday
2007-10-22 11:37:00
I had to drag myself out of the bed at 7:00 a.m. today. The reason? Maintenance work on a 10" pipe that controls water distribution in our complex has to be replaced thus, we have no water supply for 5 to 6 hours. I wanted to have an early breakfast and shower before the water is shut off at 9:00 a.m.As I'm writing this post, I'm already done with one of the chore I had set myself out to do, that is - to put away our summer footwear and clothes and pull out our cold weather gear. I have put off doing this chore for the past two weeks mainly due to the fact that the weather has been unseasonably warm. I had to do it now though, because the weather is not gonna get any warmer. By the end of this week, if I go by the weather forecast it will be in the 50's. Good thing is, I already picked up from storage at the cleaners the dry-cleaned coats, jackets and scarves. It took me two and a half hours to complete this task, and that is only for the two of us. I don't know, but for some reaso
