SAFA showcases DIA media player in Korea
2007-08-11 16:40:00
It's good to see SAFA back in the saddle after a long bout with silence, and the firm's latest PMP looks mighty fine, we must say. Dubbed DIA -- presumably in reference to the diamond shaped control pad -- this diminutive device boasts a 2.4-inch color LCD, plays nice with audio and video files, comes with four mini games, and is available with up to 4GB of internal capacity. Moreover, users can load the rest of their files on a miniSD card, and there's also a FM tuner and voice recorder to go along with the eight equalizer presets. Word on the street puts the 2GB iteration at ₩139,000 ($151), while the 4GB version will only run you ₩60,000 ($65) more. Check out a few more angles after the jump, and don't say that oh-so-shiny rear doesn't look familiar.Continue reading SAFA showcases DIA media player in Korea (Via Engadget.)

Sony PMX-U50 Hands-On
2007-08-10 20:01:00
Sony is testing the PMP waters with the release of the PMX-M70 and the U50. Unfortunately, unless you're in China you won't be able to get your hands on one of these. That's where this whole internet thing plays a role. Someone over there took some nice pictures of the U50 for us curious onlookers:The player is much smaller than I first imagined. The curved speaker adds a different, yet still appealing look from most other players out there. The cross-media bar interface (as seen on the PSP/PS3) is also a welcomed addition. Although these players don't really bring anything new and innovative to the PMP market, I'd still like to see them sold outside of China. I'm tired of seeing PMP's from the same companies year after year. Sony has something good here and should take advantage of it. (Via dapreview.net : News.)

Crazy, Cool, Futuristic Concept DAP / CD player
2007-08-10 19:59:00
This is pretty cool. Gizmodo published an article earlier today about a new concept DAP / CD player . As you can see from the picture it would be highly portable and pretty nifty looking too! Definitely if this ever did come out I would buy it for the novelty value at least. The futuristic player seems like it could be dead handy and heck if you're the first to the market with a player like that, you are going to get noticed.... hint hint DAP manufacturers, take notes.(Via dapreview.net : News.)

2007-08-10 19:58:00
After the success obtained by the F610, a premium line product with excellence in utilities like it’s X-Vision wide angle vision display, a long autonomy of the battery and a quick speed data transfer rate, X-Micro surprised us with another outstandingmusic player which incorporates to his line of ‘entry level’ products. The F510, recently announced in Computex Taipei 2007, not only offers a more accessible price than the previous F610, it also maintains all the special features of the former becoming a very competitive product in price-features ratio.Read the rest of this entry »(Via MP3 Player Review.)

Newman's janky Windows CE PMP does it all
2007-08-10 19:58:00
Newman's been known to crank out a few less than beautiful devices in its time, but the interestingly styled vx1000 certainly ups the ante. This handheld conglomerate manages to wear an awful lot of hats, as it features a built-in media player, four-inch 480 x 272 widescreen panel, an image / text viewer, FM radio, WiFi, gaming functions, and Windows CE at the helm. Of course, we'd be sure to give this thing a whirl before confidently snapping up such a chintzy looking piece, but those willing to take the risk can pick one up in China for 1,999CNY ($264).(Via Engadget.)

Ford's Sync phone / DAP integration gets priced at $395
2007-08-10 19:56:00
Looks like Ford's pricing the Sync extensible automotive media platform right in line with most other DAP / Bluetooth integration solutions: Dearborn announced today that the system will be a $395 option on new Focus, Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles starting this fall. Ford also said that Sync will be coming to nine other vehicles by 2008, but honestly, we're not going to be satisfied on the carputer tip until we get Turbo Boost and a sweeping red scanner light.(Via Engadget.)

Ecodigital's windup PMP runs on elbow grease
2007-08-10 19:55:00
Trevor Baylis, famed British inventor of the 'windup' radio (which runs on cranking power) and all-around bon vivant, has set his sights on a newer form of portable entertainment: the digital media player. Baylis, along with the company Ecodigital, has created a small PMP which never needs to be plugged in -- you simply wind the small crank on the back when you need more juice (although, if you want to go ahead and destroy the planet, it offers USB charging as well). According to the company, one minute (or a third of the new Kelly Clarkson single) of cranking garners 40 sweet minutes of playback, and you can crank to a maximum of 20 hours. The player features a 1.8-inch color screen, 2GB of onboard memory, an SD card slot, FM tuner, line-in recording, and playback of MP3, WMA, ASF, and WAV files. Pre-orders for a mid-August shipment available now for £169.99, or around $344.(Via Engadget.)

Trackball MP3 Player Challenges The Scrollwheel’s Dominance
2007-08-08 20:43:00
By Andrew LiszewskiI’m probably one of only a handful of people on the planet who actually misses having a trackball on a laptop, so I immediately have a soft spot for this Trackball MP3 Player concept created by Dae-Ki Hong. Instead of pushing buttons or using a touch-sensitive scroll wheel you simply roll a small trackball in the direction of whichever control you wish to execute. It even works the same way when placed upside down on a flat surface which reminds me of another device I just can’t put my finger on…While I like the translucent plastic design of the player I have to wonder about the lack of screen, the ease at which a trackball can be accidentally rolled and not to mention the trackball’s notorious history of collecting dirt and grime.(Via OhGizmo!.)

Alba launches new MP3 players
2007-08-08 20:38:00
Alba isn't exactly a household name when it comes to MP3 players, but that doesn't mean the company doesn't try. They have just launched the MP32GD11SIL and MP34GD11BLK MP3 players that feature solid state memory, available in 2GB and 4GB capacities. Aesthetics certainly isn't the top priority with either player, since they come in a square design, but at least it doesn't flounder feature-wise. You get an SD/MMC memory card slot for expansion options, a blue backlit display, and MP3 and WMA file format support - the bare necessities to get you started. It relies on a single AAA battery for its power needs, getting around 10 hours of mileage. The 2GB and 4GB versions retail for £22.99 and £39.99 respectively. I'd say pick up the 2GB version and use some cash to purchase an SD card to maximize the use of your money.(Via UberGizmo, the Gadgets News Blog.)

Zen Wav washes up on US shores
2007-08-08 20:04:00
We don't know how many of you were patiently waiting for the Zen Wav to hit our fair shores, but it looks like the tiny black DAP has finally made it out of Asia. Other than the tinny built-in speakers, there's not a lot you haven't seen from Creative before: 4GB of flash, 1.5-inch screen, line-in, smug sense of non-conformity, and an FM tuner. All yours at Wal-Mart for $99. (Via Engadget.)

Palama Poketo DAP Player: pretty vacant

We're talking about a device that's due to cost 3980 Yen (around £15) admittedly, so I don't know what excesses you might want for that money; whatever they are, you're not going to get 'em. The Palama Poketo DAP player is Pantone pretty, but its got 512MB of memory and is MP3 and WMA compatible.(Via Shiny Shiny.)

Thomson touts A1 media player as "world's smallest"
2007-08-06 14:03:00
Tired of bulky media player s? Hate having to lug around your iPod Nano? Well, welcome to the Thomson A1, a tiny PMP that the company claims is the 'world's smallest,' (which of course we recommend you take with multiple grains of salt). Truth be told, it is rather petite, clocking in at just 3-inches and weighing only 87 grams. Somehow, they managed to slap on a 16:9 display and cram 4GB or 8GB capacity into the little guy, and of course it plays all your favorites, like MP3, WMA, WAV, and AVI, plus it rocks an FM tuner. The only real question is this; what are those colored 'nubs' in the photo, and what exactly are they doing? The A1 will hit China first, going for around $106 for the 4GB and $120 for the 8GB, but no word on when or if we'll see this Stateside.(Via Engadget.)

16gb Creative Zen V+, First Out The Door?
2007-08-02 19:58:00
Sometime today Creative sneakily updated their Singapore online store to include the option of a 16gb version of their popular mini dap the Zen V+. Priced at $399 (Singapore Dollars) or $262.70 US, its exceptional value for money. Creatives colour choice for this model is questionable in my opinion so I would be hoping that it becomes available in other variants as well. Unfortunately the 16gb model is out of stock, and until it comes into stock the title for 'First 16gb Flash DAP' is still up for grabs, with Apple announcing 'stuff' on Tuesday there is every chance they could yet pip Creative to that title, here's hoping they don't.Creative Singapore(Via dapreview.net : News.)

TASCAM MP3 Music Trainers
2007-08-02 07:12:00
Two more MP3 music trainers for bass and vocals will be joining TASCAM’s previously released guitar trainer. As well as providing the standard functions of an MP3 player with a 128 x 64 pixel monochrome LCD and 1GB of storage, the MP-BT1 and MP-VT1 are equipped with a direct input for a bass guitar or microphone, to integrate your own performance with the music.Plenty of effects can be used to modify the music, such as altering playback speed without changing pitch, skipping and looping sections, eliminating or enhancing the bass or vocals, and of course tuner and metronome functions. What better way to learn and practice music yourself? Currently the T1-series from TASCAM (a division of TEAC) are only intended for Japan, but with a bit of luck, they may be released internationally.(Via Anything But iPod.)

Portable Media: Meizu mDock Speaker Dock Coming Soon For M6, M3 Music Cards
2007-08-14 13:32:00
Meizu Me reports that Meizu will release a speaker dock slightly reminiscent of iPod speaker docks for their M6 player. The M6, if you recall, is a small Nano-ish player that's actually quite good, despite taking many of its design influence straight from Apple. This dock will be 88 grams and measure 208x87x86mm. That's 0.2 pounds and 8.1x3.4x3.3 inches. That weight seems a bit off, but the mDock will have replaceable docks to fit the the M3 Music Card as well. (Via Gizmodo.)

Atree's UM10 e-dictionary with trick sliding keyboard
2007-08-14 13:10:00
It must be nice to live in a culture where it seems like having a dictionary on hand at all times is a must -- but sadly we in the US seem doomed to describe everything as either 'awesome' or 'sucks' while kids in Asia broaden their vocabularies with devices like Atree's UM10 e-dictionary / PMP. The unit, which sports a sliding flip keyboard much like the HTC Shift, also takes stylus input on its 3-inch screen and can play back media in a wide range of formats, including MP4, WMV9, MP3, WMA and Ogg. The unit also has FM and DMB tuners, a Microsoft Office reader app, and either 2 or 4GB of storage expandable via microSD. No word on price, but unless you're planning a trip to Korea sometime soon it doesn't really matter. Too bad -- it sucks that we can't get a device this awesome over here.(Via Engadget.)

Samsung's Yepp YP-P2 touchscreen DAP with Bluetooth
2007-08-14 06:28:00
Ok we admit it, we thought the device pictured over the weekend by Akihabara News was just the iPhone obscured by that iLuv case. But really, those pics were a bit preoccupied with something other than the, ehem, gadget. Fortunately, the good kids over at dapreview sorted it out with pictures and a video of Samsung 's sleek new flash player: the Yepp YP-P2. A bit of digging also reveals plenty of specs courtesy of several unsubstantiated German language sites. These include up to 8GB of flash; biggie 3-inch, 428 x 240 pixel touch-screen display; MP3, WMV, WMA, and H.264 (MPEG4 AVC), MPEG-4 (ASF) support; Bluetooth (oh yes); integrated speaker and mic; and FM radio in a device just 100 x 52 x 9.2-mm thin. They've even implemented some of that virtual click-wheel action hinted at by Apple patent applications but never quite implemented. Check another pic and video walkthrough of the interface after the break. Read(Via Engadget.)
