More Rally to Come?

I think so. I'll be looking to buy some calls in the PowerShares QQQ Trust (Nasdaq: QQQQ) in the near future.Edit: Actually, after spending several hours analyzing my market timing indicator, I have changed my opinion. Until the 20-day SMA is captured by QQQQ, I think it is a good opportunity to buy some puts.

Stock Watch List Recap

Well, my watch list stocks both made healthy moves during last week's market roller-coaster ride. Escalon Medical Corp. (Nasdaq: ESMC) gained ~10% and Telular Corp. (Nasdaq: WRLS) gained ~6%. This gave me a much needed boost to my portfolio.Unfortunately, though, my portfolio has suffered a significant pullback (~25% from the high). This pullback was a combination of bad luck, I had some DepoMed, Inc. (Nasdaq: DEPO) that imploded, and poor timing, my market timing positions were incorrect. I am going to make every effort to not suffer this size of a pullback again.This week I will be watching Third Wave Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TWTI) and Incredimail Ltd. (Nasdaq: MAIL).

Oversold Bounce in the Nasdaq

Very nice oversold bounce during the last thirty minutes of trading today. I was hoping to buy some option calls, but it ran away from $47 too quickly.

Painful Pullback

Ok, so the pullback went further than I thought. Isn't that always the case?The problem with market timing is that it sometimes your timing is off and you miss the move. I plan on holding off on my market timing trades for a couple of weeks, but I may make some small stock purchases this week.Two stocks at the top of my watch list are Escalon Medical Corp. (Nasdaq: ESMC) and Telular Corp. (Nasdaq: WRLS).


Pullback or Reversal in the Nasdaq?

Looks like scenario 1 did not pan out, but scenario 2 is taking shape nicely. I will give the Nasdaq a couple of weeks (maybe a month) to digest this latest dip, and then reassess my bias using my market timing indicators.

More Upside Possible for the Nasdaq?

I noticed something odd with my market timing indicators on Friday, so I looked at them more closely this weekend. What I found was a scenario that has never existed in the past 5 years! Hmmm...This data suggests three possible scenarios: 1) the Nasdaq has a lot more upside in the near term, 2) the next big pullback in the Nasdaq (probably to the 20-day SMA) will be a fantastic buying opportunity for the bulls, or 3) a major shift is occurring in the market and my market timing indicators are no longer useful. Time will tell, but I am favoring scenarios 1 and 2.

To the Moon - DryShips Inc.

Per my post on google groups, I did buy a tiny amount of option puts in DryShips, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRYS) at the $62.50 level. That didn't work out so I plan on selling my puts tomorrow morning, taking my lumps, and moving on.This stock is a rocket and I don't want to be around when the fuel runs out.


Good Design (and the lack of it) in Finance Blogs

In the process of designing this blog, I visited many web sites for design ideas. At first, I started looking at various stock market blogs, but was turned off by the clutter and information overload. Just take a look at Instant Bull for a list of the top 100 stock blogs. In the top ten, I'd say that the best design is at The Big Picture, with the other 9 bringing up the distant rear. The worst of the top ten was Stock Trading To Go which seemed like one big advertisement.I soon gave up the search for design ideas in the finance blog department and started looking at designers' blogs for inspiration. Ahhh! Organized, uncluttered, visually interesting, and (what's this...?) good content too. Apparently you can have good design AND good content co-exist! I put some serious time and effort into tweaking this original template into something that was C.R.A.P. (it is a good thing!). Anyway, after a ton of surfing for design ideas, and a lot of work trying to get those ideas implemented (

Small Cap Slingshot is a trading system that is designed to recognize early signs of momentum in small cap stocks. Although the primary focus of this system is investing in momentum stocks, there is a secondary focus designed to hedge against retracements in the Nasdaq (see below).Small cap momentum stocks are first identified using technical analysis, then manually evaluated for their potential to outperform. Although there were periods of excellence, they were overshadowed by periods of inferiority. My frustration lead me to conduct a thorough analysis of my past successes and mistakes and was an extremely enlightening exercise. Become hysterical. Got a hold of yourself? Good. Stock Watch List Recap - TWTI, MAIL

Last week's small cap stock watch list had mixed performance. Incredimail Ltd. (NASDAQ: MAIL) lost about 8% on Monday and was immediately dropped from the watch list. However, Third Wave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: TWTI) held strong through the stock market drop and surrendered only about 2%. I will be watching this stock closely, though it may suffer the same fate as Telular Corp. (NASDAQ: WRLS) and experience a significant pullback. My portfolio suffered a minor pullback (~2%) primarily due to WRLS not holding support levels as the market dropped on Thursday and Friday. Besides TWTI, I will be watching Pimco Corporate Opportunity (NYSE: PTY). This is not a typical stock pick for me, but in the current market environment, I would like to test the strength of this dividend stock (annual yield is ~9.5%).There will be a special post tonight, so keep your eyes open for it.

Yes. My stock market timing indicators say that we are still in the midst of a reversal. Small Cap Stock Watch List Recap - TWTI, PTY

Stocks on the small cap stock watch list performed very differently during last week's roller coster ride in the stock market. Third Wave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: TWTI) continued forming a nice base and is still holding strong. However, Pimco Corporate Opportunity (NYSE: PTY) fell through support, but has since tried to reclaim some of those losses. Apparently even a strong dividend can not save a stock when the market is falling. Last week my stock trading system made some significant gains thanks to my market timing indicators being dead on accurate. I am hopeful that my trading system's portfolio value will be at all-time highs soon.This week there are no small cap stocks on the watch list. Despite the recent stock market spike created by the Fed's rate cut, I am not convinced that there is a lot more upside. I'd like to see the $50.66 resistance level in the PowerShares QQQ Trust (Nasdaq: QQQQ) taken out with big volume, before I am convinced that the upside trend will continue for the next several months. My put options I purchased at Tuesday's close in the PowerShares QQQ Trust (Nasdaq: QQQQ) turned into an excellent trade (>100% gain). Unfortunately, the short week confused me and I did not sell out my position since I thought I had one more day of trading. Stock Market Timing - Going Short Again

Well last week's short position didn't work out so well as the $50.66 level in the PowerShares QQQ Trust (Nasdaq: QQQQ) was taken out yesterday (when I also closed my trade for a small loss). So what move from here? Well looking at my stock market timing indicators, I see conditions that remind me of the mid-July correction. Therefore, I still feel that betting on a short-term pullback is a smart move. Well I am still holding my put options in the PowerShares QQQ Trust (Nasdaq: QQQQ). Although the $51.51 level was breached on a closing basis last Thursday, I felt that it wasn't a substantial break (since the volume was low and it was only $0.07 above my stop level). My stop level remains the same and we will see what next week brings.In the meantime, my stock trading system's performance has been bouncing around near its all-time high.
