Belkin brings out another great gadget that I’m so waiting to get my hands on. Well over the years, I’ve accumulated a lot of peripherals and that means more wires and cables to connect them. Hence, I restrict myself to my room, as I don’t get more wires to the other rooms, though I still would like to sit and relax in the living room and still be able to access my hard drives, printers and music in the other room. Imagine I could do all this, with just the wireless connection on my router. (more…) Share This

some OS please!!
2007-08-14 07:00:34
The last month was a period of experiments with my computer, starting with the fact that I was running on a ‘going to break’ HDD and the DST short test was failing repeatedly. So before anything, I backed up all my data (which also includes my windows partition) after running openSUSE in recovery mode; and trust me it was quite a breeze, reinforcing my crush on Linux. Later that day I called DELL support and they promptly shipped me a replacement hard drive one working day later, but the OEM OS that id also asked them to ship was going to take a few days longer as the package which includes WinXP, device drivers, sonic, win backup and a few others were flying in from Netherlands. Nevertheless I was happy with their prompt and ‘no questions asked’ service, afterall I guess ive already paid them quite a sum when I took the 3 yr complete care support for my inspiron 6400. Around this time 25 years ago, the world’s first compact disc was produced at a Philips factory in Germany, sparking a whole new revolution in technology. The Compact Disc(CD) was jointly developed by the engineers at Philips and Sony. The first ever CD produced was “The Visitors” by Abba. I still remember the day when we got our first CD player with a couple of audio CDs for Christmas. I used to spend hours gazing at the vibrant colours that reflected of it and wondered how it could hold so much information embedded in a 1.2 mm thin format. (more…) Share This

Let there be light !!
2007-08-21 14:08:32
The phrases from the third verse of the book of Genesis read as follows. 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 1:2 - And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 1:3 - And God said, Let there be light : and there was light. 1:4 - And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And in todays’ world we just added a corollary - And let it be mapped: and they have mapped light in real time and put it online. A few folks on die.net (more…) Share This

BSNL promises I-Phone in a year
2007-08-21 04:01:23
Would India’s leading telecommunications provider and the country’s largest public-sector firm really do it? Before you get too excited about the whole thing, please note the capitalized “ I ” which stands for Internet or IP and not the latest Apple gadget that is subject to a lot of information exchange in the recent months. And yes, that was indeed a teaser. The “I-Phone” under discussing here, would enable the user to call from broadband to broadband with no extra phone charges. So now you wouldn’t need to get onto your favorite messenger, connect your microphone and speaker and dial, but instead call off an IP phone and talk your way to glory without the need to worry of a hefty phone bill. The catch however would be that you actually are exchanging data over your broadband connection which might be subject to a data limit based on the broadband plan you have opted. Its also unclear whether the IP telephony traffic will be exchanged with other broadband provid
