Review: Loreal Dermo Expertise RevitaLift Double Lifting 2007-08-09 23:32:00 I received a fair bit of comments when I mentioned I used Loreal's Dermo Expertise
RevitaLift Double Lifting
. As I'm still, well, not-so-old (can't say young, 'cos face it, I'm no spring chicken), I reckon there's no need for me to use such "bombastic" anti-aging cream now.Still, it's never too late to start. The reason I bought the Double Lifting cream was 1) I wanted to try it out, given that it's quite hyped for a highstreet anti-aging product, and 2) I found that the bottom skin of my eyes are starting to sag (yeah, horror of horrors. Scared the heck out of me, I'd say). I needed something to "boost it up" and to stop gravity from winning me over so soon.Anyways, my take on the Double Lifting cream? Disappointing.Description:With age, the quality of skin deteriorates, facial features begin to loosen, wrinkles deepen. To fight against the signs of ageing, L'Oreal Paris has created Revitalift Double Lifting; L'Oreal Paris' first double-action cream that instantly re-taute
Count 'em Calories 2007-08-09 23:21:00 Gosh I'm in need of a diet. You know what they say, bride-to-bes would be totally swamped with so much to do, and what with the stress and all, you'd think I'd be losing weight fast. But noooo, the calories are simply piling on, and really, I seemed to be gaining weight more and more as the date approaches! *gasp in horror*So I've been scouring diet books, and the internet, for some sort of calorie counter, so that I can really watch what I eat. I mean, heck, the greasy char koay teows and nasi lemaks just ain't cutting it. One plate of 'em oily stuff, and there ya go, a day's need of calories down the drain in just the ONE meal.Anyways, I'm really glad I found a free calorie counter on the Internet, which suits my needs. Definitely helps me make better food choices, which I sorely fail in. You can even start a food diary, which is great. Believe it or not, I actually HAVE a food diary too, which lasted all of, oh, 2 months? :p*This post was brought to you by MyFitnessPal* Read more:Calories
Review: Olay Clarity Fresh Cleanser 2007-08-07 23:43:00 This is a review request from Jo. Here ya go, Jo :)I'm an oddball, I am. I'd spend hundreds of ringgit (and I reckon, soon dollars) on creams and such on my face, but I'm a miser on facial wash. My excuse? As long as it's not some unheard-of brand which isn't soap-free, and does not dry my skin after use, I'm all right. After all, it's something you wash off after 20-30 seconds of application on your face. Now I don't mean that you should go around getting cheapo brands which does nothing if not more harm to your face. No sirree. What I'm saying is that there are many highstreet, off-the-counter brands of facial wash which also do a good job in not just cleansing your face, but to keep it well moisturised too.One of my favourite facial cleansers is Olay's Clarity
Fresh Cleanser
.Description:The Clarity Fresh Cleanser instantly washes away excess oil, dirt and make–up that leaves skin clean without over–tightening. Restores skin to a refreshed, naturally balanced condition.
Review: Shiseido Anessa Perfect Smooth Sunscreen 2007-08-06 00:45:00 I bought the Shiseido Anessa Perfect
Smooth Sunscreen
SPF50+ PA+++ during one of my trips to Japan. This is one of the most popular sunscreens sold in drugstores in Japan. Anessa sunscreens practically sell like hot cakes during summer.Description:A light weight sunscreen product with SPF50 to block UVA and UVB; Helps to keep youthful look and control melanin that may cause freckles and uneven skin tone; Resist sweat and excess sebum for fully protection. Great for daily use and can be applied under makeup. At SPF50, it offers extremely high protection against damaging UV sun rays. The scent's quite light, unlike the sunscreens sold in our local drugstores (they pretty much stink). It's oil-free, which worked very well for me (this is a very important factor for me when I'm selecting skincare products. They HAVE to be oil-free). I also use it as a makeup base during the day.I use this when I'm outdoors. SPF50 might be a tad high, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. This sunscreen c
IKEA 2008 Catalogue 2007-08-03 21:17:00 IKEA's 2008 catalogue is out!Not very beauty-related for today, but if you're an IKEA fan like me, you might wanna check out their latest catalogue. I'm still only at page 52. Lots more to go.I'm a major fan of IKEA, and it sucks that there isn't an IKEA in Penang. I reckon my new place will be done up with loads of IKEA stuff; it'll look like a page from the catalogue!I'll be heading to KL in a few weeks, and I'll definitely be dropping by the place. Who knows what small (can't lug home the furnitures. Shucks) goodies I'll be able to scour?PS: Oooh, and do check out Ikea Hacker while you're at it. Great site about sprucing your place with IKEA stuff :p Read more:Catalogue
The Importance of Sunscreen 2007-08-02 20:11:00 From our last poll on Skincare Products You Can Do Without, it shows that 25% of those who voted (thanks!) reckon you can do without sunscreen. For me, I can do without the serum, but not sunscreen.Well, I'm not about to shove sunscreen down your throat, but here are a few important facts about sunscreen which I think will benefit us.According to the good people at About.com, the sun gives off ultraviolet (UV) radiation that we divide into categories based on the wavelength. UVC radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere and does not cause skin damage. UVB radiation affects the outer layer of skin, the epidermis, and is the primary agent responsible for sunburns. UVB does not penetrate glass, and the intensity of UVB radiation depends on the time of day and the season. UVA radiation penetrates deeper into the skin and works more efficiently. The intensity of UVA radiation is more constant than UVB without the variations during the day and throughout the year. UVA is also not filtered by Read more:Sunscreen
Let's Video Conference, Shall We? 2007-08-02 20:08:00 In my line of work, there is much liaison with our counterparts and customers. It isn't easy having to keep up with their requirements and requests via email, as a lot gets lost in the translation. Thus, we have video conferencing meetings every month, to facilitate things. There was one particular video conferencing meeting which I found particularly funny. Most of the time, it would be our counterparts who'd be dialing in to our number. So there we were, waiting for the call. Once connected, they saw us, and started the meeting immediately. They went on and on, yakkity yak; what they didn't realise was, their microphone wasn't switched on! They were so engrossed in their figures, their documents, etc, that they didn't even realise that we have not said our greetings, nor did they even look up to see our flailing arms to indicate that we couldn't hear them. It was an amusing sight indeed. My man and I do our very own lil' video conferencing ourselves. But for that ... well, let'
Review: Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush 2007-08-02 03:45:00 The next "mousse-on-face-not-on-hair" product which I'm going to review today is another product of Maybelline, which is the DreamMousse
Blush.Like the mousse foundation, it was my first time with a mousse blush. I've always used powder blushes, and after using the mousse blush, well, let's just say I'm sticking to my powders.Description:Air-soft formula provides luminous, long-lasting color on cheeks. Glides on smoothly and blends easily for seamless colour and a natural, radiant finish. Air-whipped mousse delivers satin-soft feel on skin. Long-wearing formula will not clog pores. For best results, With your fingertips, pat a small amount of blush onto the apples of your cheeks. Use feathery strokes to blend gently from your cheekbones to your temples. To build colour intensity, apply more blush. The thing with the mousse blush is that it is to be applied after foundation, before loose powder. The colour which I have is the Peach Satin, which is a pretty coral. From first glance,
Dangers Of Wearing Crocs 2007-07-31 22:50:00 I read this on Shoewawa today, about the dangers of Crocs
shoes, and I thought I'd share it with you folks here. Now I hate Crocs. Really hate 'em. The design's rubbish, and I don't care what other people say about how bloody comfortable it is, I just hate it. They're uber-ugly. I've seen grown men at my office, wearing a nice pair of slacks, shirt, and a bright-yellow pair of Crocs. Talk about fashion faux pas.Anyways, the Washington Post mentioned about the dangers of the Croc's soft material being clipped by the teeth of the escalator's step, and the resin blogs ending up mangled, or even ripped apart. So far, the injuries incurred are minor, as people have been able to pull their feet away from their trapped shoes in time. Still, the stories told about Croc-related injuries, e.g. a little girl's right big toe being ripped off in a mall in Singapore when her fake Crocs were stuck in an escalator are enough to make me shiver. This doesn't just apply to Crocs (although I say i
Review: Maybelline White Stay Mousse Foundation 2007-07-31 22:32:00 When Maybelline introduced their MousseFoundation
range, I wasn't all that interested in it. At that point in time, I wasn't wearing foundation daily, so I never thought to try it out. It was only when they came out with their White

Beauty Smile Trainer 2007-07-30 09:47:00 Voila! Another, er, 'fabulous' Japanese invention. So ladies, if you think you can't smile properly, see what the good people of the land of the rising sun has come up with. A solution for better smiles!Description:The BeautySmileTrainer
is basically a mouthpiece, but it's designed specifically to make your smile wider and more amicable than the one you already have. It's even endorsed by a cosmetic dentist (the woman on the top left.) In addition to improving your smile, the product promises to reduce facial sagging, making your countenance more firm and petite.I've seen nosebridge clips at Sasa to supposely help "lift" a flat nose, but this really takes the odd biscuit. I'm definitely asking my friend who's in Japan right now to check it out for me. And if it's cheap, I'll get her to bring it back, and maybe *ahem* try it out for you. Tee hee hee :pVia TokyoMango

How To Look Like You've Just Stepped Out Of A Salon 2007-07-28 20:03:00 Never let a hair dryer be too hot or too close. The greater the volume (you want), the bigger the brush (you need).Hair longer than elbow length is too long. When drying hair always finish with a blast of cold air; this will seal cuticles and add shine. Do not buy a hair dryer without a cold air option. The optimum styling time for hair is when it is 85% dry. Hair drying = hair volume + a groomed finish. Drying hair with a hair dryer lifts the hair from the roots, and gives added body. Natural drying promotes natural curls and waves. Don't fry, attack or over-dry your hair. LOVE your hair.Don't over wash your hair. Excessive shampooing and styling strips the hair of its natural oils.Even if you are growing your hair, it still needs trims. Split ends lead to unhealthy, stunted growth, and then where will you be?To give hair added luxury and shine, always do the final rinse using bottled water. That sounds decadent, but tap water around the world as a variety of different pH levels amd so Read more:Salon
What Every Woman Should Have And Know 2007-07-26 23:37:00 Today's post is not about physical beauty, but more importantly, our inner beauty. And since this site is dedicated to all things beautiful about all the women in the world, I thought I'd share this with you.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...something perfect to wear if the employer,or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...a youth she's content to leave behind.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling it in her old age.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...a set of screwdrivers,a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...one friend who always makes her laugh ...and one who lets her cry.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family.A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal, that will
Butler Bag by Jen Groover 2007-07-24 22:34:00 Ooooh, check it out, the world's first compartmentalised bag!Gosh, I wouldn't mind me one of these. To try out anyway. My bag's pretty messy; searching for my keys, and mobile phone seem like such a feat on a busy day (short of tossing my bag inside out). It'd be great to have a bag like this; at least I'd know where things are in an instant. It'll definitely be a time-saver.Still, with these fixed-sized compartments, I'd imagine the bag to be rather bulky. Also, the items would have to be rather small to be able to fit into these compartments (bigger items would again, be tossed into the bag).Oh well, despite the disadvantages, I'd love to have something like this, at least, to give it a go. Being such a bag lover that I am, that is ;)The Classic Bag is available at Butler
Bag for USD$95, whilst the Hybrid Bag at USD$150 (shipping is free in the US when two bags are ordered).
Review: Estee Lauder's Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder 2007-07-23 07:06:00 This is my all-time favourite loose powder, and by far the best I've used. I'm sure you've heard of it, for it is one of Lauder
.htm">Estee Lauder
's bestsellers. Let me introduce you to Estee Lauder's Lucidity Translucent LoosePowder
.This loose powder provides flawless coverage and luminous finish on your skin, after you've applied your foundation. What I like about this powder is that, compared to loose powders by Clinique and Shiseido, it's very fine, and does not make your makeup look cakey.Description:For a luminous finish that minimizes the look of lines and wrinkles.Special ingredients diffuse light as it hits your skin, creating a "soft-focus" effect that visibly smooths the appearance of your skin.Dermatologist-tested.The loose powder comes with a small puff which is used to apply the powder. The blue container has a plastic cover with holes in it, to prevent overspill of powder (you wouldn't want too much powder on your skin either; just a light overall sweep will do).I prefer to
Clinique Play In The Darks 2007-07-21 21:34:00 I don't normally wear makeup by Clinique
(so far, it's only been the skincare range I'm interested in), but the Fall 2007 collection looks pretty good, so like Bobbi Brown, that I just have to share it with y'all.Fall 2007's makeup range is called Play In The Darks, and from the looks of it, smokey, earthy colours are all in the rage. Very fall colours, no?Play in the Dark Fall 2007 will be available at Clinique counters in the US in August 2007. I reckon we wouldn't have to wait too long after that. I can't wait to get my hands on the Brush-on Cream Liner.Via Makeupbag
Fake Makeup on Ebay 2007-07-20 01:30:00 Have you ever bought makeup on Ebay?I haven't. And I'm not about to either. There are so many fakes out there, selling the pieces for a fraction of the real price. An example would be MAC.MAC's a popular auction item in the makeup section. MAC pigments are quite a popular selling item too, but more of than not, the tubs of pigments aren't being sold, just a teaspoon (or less) of it, for perhaps RM15. But how do you vouch for their authenticity? Who knows, the seller might just be selling you a low-grade makeup product, claiming it to be genuine. I certainly wouldn't pay RM15 for a quarter of a teaspoon of powder, no matter how fancy the brand is. It's worse if you can't even be 100% certain you're not being played for a patsy.I came across this article which shows you the differences between real and fake MAC eyeshadows. It's pretty interesting; the differences are all in the packaging, but they're pretty subtle, so unless you're a huge MAC fan and have purchased every singl Read more:Makeup
Review: Palmer's Olive Butter Formula Lotion 2007-07-19 03:54:00 I've heard of Palmer
's Cocoa ButterFormula
creams and lotions when I was in the UK, but never tried any of the range as I do not like the smell of cocoa butter (I have one from the Body Shop Spa Wisdom range, and I really dislike the smell. More on that in my future posts). The Olive
Butter range came out recently, and to be honest, I never would have tried it out if not for a free sample sachet of the lotion in one of the fashion magazines I read. I tried it on in just one application, and I must say, I'm hooked!Description:Palmer's Olive Butter Formula™ has the power to transform your skin. Extra Virgin Olive Oil takes care of your skin in three ways:1) Unique lipid structure moisturizes instantly.2) Loaded with antioxidants to keep skin youthful.3) Emulsifies on contact for superior skin smoothing. As this creamy lotion penetrates, skin immediately feels soothed and softened. Lancome Le Magnetique Nail Polish 2007-07-18 01:50:00 Okay, I know it seems as though I've been promoting Lancome
a lot lately (nope, they don't pay me to talk about them. What a pity), but this is another find which I simply have to share with you.Behold, Lancome's Le Magnetique nail polish. This has got to be the most fascinating nail polish I've heard off. It's a normal nail polish on its own, but when you hold your freshly applied polish to the magnet on the bottle, the magnetic pigments in the polish will form a pretty design on your nail. You can check out All Lacquered Up for a demonstration on the nail polish. I'm not sure when this will arrive in Malaysia, but the Le Magnetique retails at USD$17.PS: I think it isn't difficult to create this effect. Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking of iron powder (the ones we used in our science classes in school) in our regular nail polish, mixed with glitter, and a piece of magnet to create the design. Do you think it'd work? Does anybody wanna try it out? ;) Read more:Polish
Review: Bourjois Suivez Mon Regard 2007-07-16 02:51:00 Here's another one of my beauty buys in Melbourne - Bourjois Suivez Mon Regard.I've always wanted to get something from the French brand (if I'm not mistaken, they had the blush mousse way before Maybelline did. Well, it was when I saw it in the UK anyway). It's so la-di-dah, don't you think? :pAnyways, I was at Chadstone when I saw these on sale in one of the cosmetic booths in the hallways. My first thought when I saw it? "Oooh ... something with a built-in brush. Definitely not something I'd find in Malaysia". Well, that, and it cost me only AUD$5 per pot.Description:Shimmering loose powder eye shadow with a built in brush. The unique, no spills pot and ingenius built in brush are the perfect companion for a professional application wherever you are. The clever pot deposits just the right amount of powder on the brush with each application. Blogvertise Me 2007-07-16 02:48:00 Yep, I've finally jumped on the blog monetisation bandwagon. I've been reading so much about it on all money-making blogs, that I'm finally getting the hang of how this works. Sorry folks, paid reviews generate more income (well, for a tiny fry like me, it does), and it would be foolish of me to not join in as well. It'd shock you (or maybe it wouldn't :p) of how many of these blog ads services I signed up for. I'll talk about the rest some other day, but for today, I signed up with Blogvertise. Well, I do hope it works well for me, and for all you folks out there. Do check it out if you haven't.*This entry is written for Blogvertise*Note: For every paid review that I write, I shall add a proper entry as well. All in the same day. This way, I hope to not compromise the integrity of my blog. And that is a promise.
Lancôme Destiny Cube 2007-07-13 21:26:00 Oh my, Lancôme sure is coming up with a lot of pretty makeup goodies. First the cooling eye shadow gel, and now this. Voila, the Destiny
Cube! Can't imagine what bulk this would add to your makeup bag, but who wouldn't want such a pretty piece? The Destiny Cubes are available in two palettes - Charisma (pale pink lip colour with brown and voilet eye shadows), and Deep Fascination (red and burgundy lip colours with light green and pink eye shadows). This is from Lancôme's upcoming Fall Collection, and is available in August on Lancome USA's site. I hope it doesn't take too long before it makes its way to the shores of Malaysia soon. I'm definitely getting my mitts on this ;)This retails at USD$50.
Review: Stila Rouge Pots Cheek Mousse 2007-08-13 01:29:00 I bought Stila's Rouge Pots Cheek Mousse
(#05 Freesia) on a whim during the August sales at StrawberryNET. And might I say, I definitely did NOT regret it.Description:Revolutionary air-whipped formulaGlides on sheer, blends like a breezeInstantly dries & gives long wearLeaves cheeks blossoming with colorUltra light glass pot is easy to carry aroundMaybelline's Dream Blush Mousse is similar to this, but I'd have to say that I like Stila's cheek mousse a lot better than Maybelline's. First of all, it's a lot drier; i.e. it doesn't feel wet at all on my cheeks. It dried instantly on my cheeks, and blended very well into my loose powder.I'd admit I took a bit of a gamble when purchasing the cheek mousse online, as I didn't really know what Freesia was like. On the website, it looked a like an orange-brown, but when the mousse arrived, it was brown! My first thought was uh-oh, I bought the wrong colour. But when I tried it on, it gave me a very lovely bronzy glow (applied sparingly
Poll: Would You Go Out Without Makeup On? 2007-08-11 07:38:00 It's poll time again, ladies. And this time, my question of the day is: Would you go out without makeup on?If you asked me this 2 years ago, I'd probably say "Makeup
? What makeup?". Yep, I'd go out with my reddish, pimply face, the fresh-out-of-the-shower-and-off-to-bed look. After being totally Japan-ised (i.e. spending a year in Japan, and having to keep up with the Joneses), I can't imagine stepping out of the house without at least a thin layer of foundation (or tinted moisturiser), loose powder, blush and lipgloss. So, what's your story? Dare to bare? ;)
Review: The Body Shop Vitamin C Cleansing Face Polish 2007-08-15 20:40:00 I chanced upon The Body Shop's Vitamin
C Cleansing Face Polish
from Beetrice. I thought I'd give it a go since it received such rave reviews ;)Description:A daily face wash with orange jojoba micro-beads to gently exfoliate and reveal smoother skin. The antioxidant vitamin C protects skin and revitalizes.According to CareFair.com, Vitamin C products for skin care can provide greater protection against harmful UV rays, increase the production of collagen and decrease the look of fine lines and pigmentation that are the result of aging. I'm not too sure about how true that is; I know that Vitamin E's good for the skin, but Vitamin C? Hmm, I reckon this bears further investigation. But back to the review for now. There were two things I liked about this facial wash. First of all, I love the tiny beads. They're very small, and not at all hard on the skin. It exfoliated my skin without my face feeling like a washboard. It's gentle enough to be used daily, compared to the stronger scrub
First Aid Kits 2007-08-15 20:36:00 I am about the clumsiest person you can find. When I was young, I scrapped my knees countless times, fallen off the mango tree in my house, trip on sidewalks, etc. So much so that mum had to keep an updated first aid kit in the medicine cabinet for my clumsy antics. Now that I'm much older, it still doesn't stop. I've lost count of the number of times I twisted my ankle (just by walking! I know blame it on my weak ankle :p). And my first aid kit's so outdated (most of the "potions and lotions", as I like to call it, have gone past their expiry date!), it really is time I get a new one, and keep it well-stocked (that's very important), when any of the supplies have depleted.Shopping.com has quite a good selection of first aid kits, and individual supplies (xeroform petrolatum gauze dressing, how cool is that? :p). A plus point about the site is that it allows you to make comparison of prices of the same product, sold at different stores. The same product can cost from $3 to $39! I w Read more:First

Tips On Eyebrow Grooming 2007-08-13 23:06:00 My aunt, who used to be an air stewardess, once told me that during her training, she was told that one of the most important features of your face are your eyebrows. And how true she is, for the shape of the eyebrows can either open your eyes, or make them droop further. Incidentally, she was the first person to pluck and shape my brows for my college prom night, as Mum still thought that I should only start shaping my brows when I started working!Well-plucked eyebrows can make you appear more groomed. Many women (me included) have their eyebrows tweezed professionally. I'd highly recommend you have a professional do the first *ahem* "damage" on your brows first to give it a shape which suits your face, and then all you have to do is to pluck where the hairs grow in.I would discourage you to do it yourself at the very first go as you'd most likely be unsure how much to pluck, and you might be left with too-thin brows, or *gasp*, uneven brows. Believe it or not, pencil-thin brows do Read more:Grooming
