"One" by Metallica Making Noise 2007-08-09 19:43:17 Metallica
released a blurb on their website about their addition to the upcoming Guitar Hero III song list. You guessed it, "One" will be featured on Legends of Rock.
Do any real guitarist even play Guitar Hero? I don't know. I personally don't have anything against the game, but I will say this, why not play "One" by Metallica for real on a real guitar? ...If you're going to spend all that time on a guitar controller anyway. Real guitars are 8-billion times more awesome.

Rolling Stones' Keith Richards is an Out Right Dad-Snorting Hooligan (Confirmed) 2007-08-08 15:08:20
Recent photo of the ragged RollingStones
' guitarist Keith
Richards
Back in April Keith Richards said he did a line of his father's ashes, then a day later it came out that the Rolling Stones
guitarist said he was joking, but he just recently told NME in an interview that he actually did.
Richards has finally come to terms with snorting the remains of his dad. But what does it mean? Does Keith Richards practice VooDoo?
"The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father. He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared..."
-Keith Richards during the interview with NME
According to Richards, snorting his father's ashes was during one of the worst times he's had on drugs.
3 Possibilities Why Keith Richards is a Dad-snorting Hooligan
#3. As said, Keith Richards may be a VooDoo witchdoctor
#2. The Orange Unicorn told him to do it

Guitar Tab You Can Hear? PROGRESSION 2007-08-08 14:26:16 Next month NotionMusic is releasing a new program that allows you to easilly create and publish guitar tab. And it's called PROGRESSION. The software will include already published tabs from B-level guitarists like Neil Zaza, the cheesy (however awesome) neo-classical guitarist.
Random Nerd Alert: You call them tabs, I call them guitar tab because derived from "tablature."
Before you click on the link to go buy this software in September for $149.99, you should probably know if you already don't about the free guitar tab creator that's been around on the net for a decade or more called Power Tab. While you're not getting "the same thing," it's actually better.
There are literally thousands of already created power tab files of your favorite songs all over the net (see AllPowerTabs). Download the power tab files and you can play along in MIDI.

Hmm New House or Best Martin Acoustic Guitar? the New History of Flight 2007-08-08 13:59:09 So you're searching for the best martin acoustic guitar. This one catches your eye.
Then you read the price tag, $150,000.00. This guitar has to be specially ordered from Guitar
Center, so you'd probably actually just see a poster of it in store.
What makes the C.F. MartinHistory
of Flight
so special? No matter what it is, it can't be the cost of selling-my-organs-on-the-blackmarket special.
Only one made. Master Larry Robinson crafted the 18 pearl inlays. The acoustic has an Adirondack Spruce top. The rest is made with Brazilian Rosewood.
If you're the one with the cahones to buy the History of Flight, you get a personal tour through the Martin & Co. guitar maker buildings in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.
Could it be the best Martin acoustic guitar? Obviously no one's played it, so possibly, but maybe it's more of a collector's item for people like Keifer Sutherland. Read more:House

A New Unique Guitar Amplifier: Crate Profiler 5 with USB Connectivity 2007-08-07 15:09:57 This week in guitar gear has been insane. First the Line 6 Pocket Pod, now perhaps the greatest small guitar amplifier of all time. It's not exactly a practice amp, not exactly a traveling amp, not even exactly a recording amp. It's all three.
I'm talking about the new Crate
Profiler 5 with a built in USB port for easy recording on your PC (or Mac). Mackie Tracktion 2 recording software is included with the amp. You could take your recording studio on a hike up the Himalayan Mountains. It doesn't matter.
...Because the Crate amplifier also runs off AA batteries or an AC adapter, making it the perfect travel amp, regardless of whether you're recording or not. This bad boy has built in digital effects, so you don't have to worry about hauling all your cables and pedals. Thinking about being homeless? At least be the ultimate homeless guitarist.
Even more valuable, the guitar amplifier has a MP3/CD player input jack so you can practice to songs and your own recordings.

Will the New Reverse Flying V become the Ultimate Guitar of tomorrow? What's the opposite of "booyah?" 2007-08-07 14:41:01 In 1958 the original Flying
V Guitar
took the rock-and-roll world by storm. Can you believe the design is that old?
Will the new Gibson Reverse
Flying V become the ultimate guitar of tomorrow
? To me it looks like one of those flowers you pull out of the ground in Mario. But I think it could grow on me.
Not only was the V flipped around, notice the headstock looks like it's melting. Gibson is calling the new flying v guitar "a bold new take on a groundbreaking classic." I call it, they must have been drunk.
There doesn't seem to be a purpose behind the new style V. To me it doesn't seem to have the same edge as a "normal" flying v. Kind of wussy actually.
Let's hear from you. What type of guitarist will be using the Reverse Flying V when it's released to the public? Read more:Ultimate

Legendary Eddie and DLR, it's Official Folks, the 2007 Van Halen Reunion Tour is On 2007-08-07 09:17:48 UPDATED: The Tour will take place in October.
Rolling Stone Magazine announced yesterday that the 2007 Van HalenReunion Tour
is game again. Blessed be thy VH.
And the line-up is:
DLR
Eddie
Alex Van Halen
- drums
Wolfgang Van Halen - bass
If you remember back in early 2006, David Lee Roth started pushing the Van Halen Reunion Tour idea to the extreme. The gang's been talking about the reunion concerts for a while now, but the tour was held off for a number of reasons. The most recent stall had to do with Eddie checking into alcohol rehab back in March of 2007.
So when will the actual Van Halen Reunion Tour take place? Rolling Stone Magazine only said there would be a tour, and I guess it means it will be before the year's up. Maybe if you sell your children to a foreign slave market in time, you can afford tickets.
For updates on the status of the reunion (instead of searching forever in Google), you might want to bookmark Rolling Stone Van Halen Tour Updates.

Solo Guitar Playing Lesson 2007-08-06 17:39:16
Solo Guitar
Playing: a Free Online Lesson
You likely clicked on this online lesson because you don't only want to solo better, you want to burn rubber on that ax. You have a need for guitar speed. You're probably sick of slaving away for guitar speed and getting no results. I'm not a guru, but I just might be able to at least set a tree in my front yard on fire with my guitar... or something.
Jason Parker here. I've been developing an easy soloing speed program since 2006. I'm going to go ahead and release a few exercises/techniques right here at ATOMIC.
The following lessons work based on muscle memory in your fingers. Practice these runs slowly so that your mind can record your movements right.
When you mess up on soloing technique, it actually does affect your overall solo guitar playing. You might not think it does, but your mind will record the mistakes and you'll make them over and over again. So instead of trying to fly through these riffs, runs, and rock g
New BOSS ME-20 Guitar Multi Effects 2007-08-12 15:26:09
BOSS has released ME-20 GuitarMultiEffects
. It's time to upgrade from your old ME with out-of-date effects and a design that looks as if you yourself took some scrap metal and tire rubber and hammered that thing together.
What else can be said about the old ME? Too many knobs. One perk of the new ME-20 Guitar Multi Effects is that it was designed to be more efficient on the fly.
"Today BOSS expands its famous ME series multi-effects family with the ME-20, a powerful multi-effects unit optimized for live performance. Easy to use and road tough, the ME-20 provides world-class overdrive, distortion, delay, chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, rotary, and EQ effects, taking BOSS’s performance-based philosophy to a very affordable price point."
-BOSS
ME-20's 3-Pedal Stompbox:
Pedal #1: all overdrives and distortions
Pedal #2: all modulation like chorus, tremolo, and phaser
Pedal #3: all delay and reverb

A Gifted and Talented Child Already a Rock Star: Guitarist Alex "Raz" 2007-08-11 09:24:11 Alex "Raz" is a gifted and talented child already a rock star at 9-years-old. In March Raz was discovered playing on the reality show "Finding Julian's Band". Since then he's picked up fans all over the internet at sites like YouTube and Yahoo! VIDEO. Father Steve Raz has been the brains behind the promotion of his rock star child.
"I could just tell. I just showed him a little finger exercise, and I could just tell, he picked it up pretty quick"
-Alex's Father
Alex's first album debuts in October featuring his old buddy from the reality show, 7-year-old singer Vincent Fondale. Alex Raz's influences include guitarists Eddie Van Halen, SRV, Satriani, Slash, and more, so we can expect it to sound like a hybrid of exciting guitar rock.
Okay, this gifted child may not seem amazing to few, but let me say this. When I used to teach private guitar lessons, the 9-year-olds I taught could barely press down a string. They had an attention span of a fly. The best and most talented of Read more:Gifted

2007 Smashing Pumpkins ...WTF? 2007-08-15 17:18:38 Burn-out Smashing Pumpkins
members Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlan held a 13 minute YouTube Q & A interview yesterday.
You got to love the great guitar work from their songs throughout the years, but holy Moses you can tell by the interview that the members of the group aren't hungry at all anymore. Worse, they make me (at least) want to fall asleep. The only good thing about the interview was hearing a little bit about Billy Corgan's setup:
Custom-built Strat with Dimarzio pickups
Diesel Herbert Amp (German)
"Weird Effects Pedals" with German names, so he couldn't pronounce them
From what I can tell the Smashing Pumpkins
new album "Zeitgeist" has some solid guitar work from newcomer Jeff Schroeder. But not that great... Maybe I'm just in a bad mood today, but I feel the urge to severely rip on one of my all-time favorite bands in this highly one-sided post.

Guitar Tab, So Long 2007-08-12 20:10:47 For centuries guitarists have shared transcriptions to all compositional pieces.
Think of Jazz fakebooks and Classical compositions you find anywhere for free. Since the beginning of the internet, guitar tab has been shared freely on hundreds of sites. Now the music industry is using lawyers to ban free guitar tab calling it copyright infringement.
The very first library of guitar tablature, the massive Online Guitar
Archive - OLGA, is suddenly down. The index page of the site reads: "OLGA is currently off-line while we attempt to resolve legal issues with the archive. We received a 'take down' letter (pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 ) from lawyers representing the NMPA and the MPA."
Some of the top tablature sites like Fresh Tabs have mysteriously disappeared and other current guitar tab sites are up for sale every day it seems. National Public Radio even covered the guitar tab crisis.
As said, it's been an age-old tradition for musicians to share music transcriptions with one

How to Shred Guitar Solos: You Need Speed 2007-08-19 11:37:36 Eddy Gaz has published a free four-part series on how to shred on guitar at YouTube. Graciously Gaz has allowed viewers to embed the videos on their sites, so what I've done here is put all four videos on ATOMIC and I've taken the time to tab out the lessons and highlight the key points. Thanks Eddy!
Out of all the chopbuilding videos and shred videos I've seen (including Joe Stump's Chopbuilder, John Petrucci's Rock Discipline, Michael Angelo Batio's Speed
Kills, Frank Gambale's Chopbuilder) Eddy Gaz's free guitar speed videos have been most helpful. Instead of piling tons of exercises on you, Gaz goes into shredding technique that has increased my 16th note chops at least by 20bps in the first day, just by mainly learning the way world class shredders hold the pick/plectrum (in a death lock).
Like I said, while you won't learn but a couple exercises, you're going to learn exactly how to build your shred speed for your solos. Eddy Gaz has more free guitar lesson videos Read more:Guitar

5 Most Influential Rock Guitarists (You May Not Know) 2007-08-18 09:20:26 We all know the influence of rock guitarists like Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. They contributed to the evolution of guitar playing, they inspired, and they brought music to a whole new level.
But what other guitarists had a huge impact on today's music that you might not know so well?
#1. Stephen Malkmus
S.M. is best-known for being the mastermind, lead guitarist, and front man behind the most influential underground rock band of the early 90s, Pavement. Stephen Malkmus' simple but melodic and precise guitar work lives on today in bits through rock guitarists in underground groups everywhere, even in the mainstream.
What was revolutionary about S.M.'s playing is that it was incredibly lo-fi, which lead to a more warm sound that we have heard again and again throughout the later part of the 90s and 2000s. Pavement's debut album Slanted and Enchanted (recorded with the most crappy equipement you could imagine, including a 4-track analog) ranks 134 on Rolling Stone Maga
New Guitar Gear (Reviews) Summer of 2007 2007-08-17 13:54:44
Line 6 Pocket Pod has been available since early Summer
. It's small enough it can fit in your palm. Some of today's hot guitarists manually programmed in 300+ effects.
Crate Profiler 5 is an new amp with a USB port for easy recording. The guitar gear review also explains why the new Crate makes for a great traveling amplifier.
Roland RE-20 Space Echo is a new version of the 1973 Roland Space Echo, except for this one Roland teamed up with BOSS to bring you a digital pedal instead of analog. Gear not yet released.
New DigiTech Gear includes the yet-to-come RP90 Guitar
Effects Processor, and the CF-7 Pedal, XTC Pedal, GSP1101 Guitar Preamp and Processor, Live 2 and Live 4.
BOSS ME-20 Multi Effects is a followup to the previous ME versions, 4x more powerful.
Hartman LM308 is a distortion pedal with two modes, one that produces a vintage sound similar to the old school Pro Co Rat, another that provides a 2007 Rock distortion.

Greatest Rock Guitarist of All Time Jimmy Page 2007-09-02 19:59:48 Jimmy Page
Rock guitarist Jimmy Page of the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin is the ATOMIC #3 greatest guitarist of all time (#1 was Charlie Christian, #2 Joe Pass).
Why is Jimmy Page the first rock guitarist on this master list? One word: influential.
Page's technique of down-stroking chords and power chords influenced the earliest punk rock guitarists like Johnny Ramone and thus, all of Punk Rock and any style of Rock like Alternative and New Rock. Also, Jimmy Page is the greatest Rock guitarist of all time because of his Riff Rock, which still is a key element in Heavy Metal music.
You might not know this one. Eddie Van Halen is often credited for being the creator of finger-tapping technique. That was actually Jimmy Page. While Rock guitarist Van Halen may have taken finger tapping to an amazing level, he originally learned it from Page.
Furthermore, Jimmy Page was a pioneer in guitar recording techniques doing things no one had ever heard like the effects of putting mics Read more:Greatest

#2... Jazz Guitar Player Joe Pass 2007-09-02 10:51:09 Yesterday Charlie Christian was inducted into the ATOMIC Greatest Guitar
ists of All Time List at the #1 spot. #2 on the list we have another Jazz guitar player, the amazing:
Joe Pass
Joe Pass hands-down was the most incredibly skilled guitarist who ever lived. Even if you don't enjoy Jazz guitar, you can appreciate his mind-blowing melodic improvising. Not to be a jerk, but for those of you who think Yngwie Malmsteen or Michael Angelo Batio are amazing shredders, Joe Pass makes them look like 10-year-old girls.
If Pass were alive today, I can imagine him shredding in a way that would probably make some people's heads explode like in the movie Scanners. If there were ever an alien who dressed in a human costume any time throughout the course of history, it would have been the 2nd greatest guitarist of all time, Joe Pass.
Not only was Pass a freak of nature Jazz guitar player, he was one of the most influential guitarists, even influencing some of the most highly acclaime
The Greatest Guitarist of All Time 2007-08-31 19:36:21 To kick off the ATOMIC 10 GreatestGuitarist
s of All Time Period... Drum roll please.
Charlie Christian
Who was Charlie Christian and why is he the greatest guitarist of all time?
At 23-years-old Charlie Christian became the most innovative guitarists of his time. In the late 1930s guitars were used as backup instruments because they weren't loud enough. No one had thought about playing guitar as if it were a horn. It was never the lead instrument in a group of musicians.
Christian was the greatest guitarist of all time because he started using an amplifier to play loud enough to be the soloist of a group. We have Charlie Christian to credit for the evolution of music on the electric guitar. If it weren't for him, we'd all be listening to horns and I for one would have already blown my head off.
Can you imagine a guitarist like Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine playing "Killing in the Name Of" on a saxophone instead of a guitar?
