Bargaining 2007-08-06 12:33:55 For most people especially from developed countries, bargaining is not something they are used to.
I mean think about it? How often do you walk into Wal-Mart and bargain for your shopping? The closest most people get to bargaining these days in eBay.
In Africa bargaining is a way of life and in fact for most small scale sellers selling their wares. It is a common practice to start high expecting the buyer to bargain with you.
Bargaining therefore is an important skill to learn, since every time you pay that ‘special’ price you are not only getting a bad deal, but you are also making things more expensive for tourists after you who will find it harder to bring down inflated prices.
Bargaining when done properly can be a lot of fun!
Just remember that when you are bargaining you are not begging the seller to sell it to you at a lower price you are simply saying that the item is not worth the price quoted.
The golden rule to remember is NOT TO GET EMOTIONAL.

It may not be a serious climb like Everest but Mt Kilimanjaro demands respect.

Organizing a safari- Planning a safari 2007-08-03 11:08:31 There are three ways to arrange a safari – buy a tailor made or what is known as a customized safari with a travel company, buy a package, or arrange everything yourself.
Whatever you choose depends on you and each has got its own advantages.
For people seeking to maximize on their holidays a prearranged safari would be advised so as to save hours and days which could be spent trying to find reliable transport and accommodation.
Caution should be taken when choosing a safari company especially since it is standard practice to pay in advance to ensure a booking.
The nightmare scenario would be to pay for your safari and then get to your destination and discover that the company does not exist!
Arranging things yourself
It is perfectly feasible to organize your own safari, either by renting a vehicle, or – doing an overland safari.
Should you be considering a self-drive then consider hiring a 4×4 four wheel drive vehicle. Land cruisers are a favorite. Others include Toyota Rav4
Choosing Accommodation On your visit to Africa 2007-08-03 09:30:40 For the visit
or to Africa
you will find a wide range of accommodation from very basic and cheap guest houses that are meant for locals and charge a few dollars a night to exclusive luxurious lodges and hotels. It all depends on your budget.
The terminology used for hotels varies slightly from one country to another but the basics remain the same.
You will also be surprised that hotel rating varies slightly from country to country. For example a five star lodge in Tanzania may be classified as four star in some other countries. The lower the star rating of the hotel the trickier it gets, so you may want to consider more than the star rating of a hotel when looking for accommodation. Consider also what others have to say about the hotel by reading reviews.
Single rooms have one bed meant for one person even if the bed is big enough for a couple. Some cheap hotels may however allow couples to share single rooms for the same price as a single person.
Double rooms usually have a large bed a Read more:Accommodation

Beaches 2007-08-02 02:52:59 Africa is known for its great white sand beaches.
But before you pack your bags and head on to just anything that looks like a beach in Africa here is some advice on choosing one in the first place.
By far the most popular beach areas are those that are sheltered from ocean currents like along the Indian Ocean from Kenya to Mozambique, also along the Mediterranean which includes countries like Tunisia, Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and also on the Indian Ocean islands of the Comoros and Madagascar. Ghana too is fast becoming a popular tourist destination and has quite a lot of history even dating back to the days of slave trade.
Of equal importance as geographic location is the kind of holiday you have in mind. There are some resorts where you will find hundreds of other holiday makers, together with beach boys trying to sell you all manner of items including “romance”.
In other places you will find “all-inclusive” resorts that cater for high end customers with money to spend. Some Read more:Beaches
On Safari 2007-07-31 11:17:58 Eastern Africa which consists of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda and Southern Africa which consists of Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa have plenty of wildlife and are considered countries for wildlife safaris.
Predators
Lions, leopards and cheetah can easily be spotted in many parts of sub- Saharan Africa.
Lions the top predator on Africa's plains are the easiest to see because they tend to live in prides made up of the dominant male and several females. They have no natural enemies. They are however in constant battles with the spotted hyena for territory and kills.
Leopards are the hardest to spot. They will often hunt at night although they are considered cheif opportunities who will take advantage of any situation for example a leopard will not think twice about hunting an antelope that may have strayed close to the tree even though it may already have a meal stored on the tree branches.
Cheetah prefer flat open ground, where they can out run Read more:Safari
Wild dogs use team tactics to catch prey 2007-07-29 04:56:07 When it comes to team work, the african wild dogs illustrate it best. Their cooperation in hunting down prey is supreme.
Together these marathon runners work as relay team to chase large prey such as gazelle, a wildebeest or an antelope, until it drops from exhaustion. The african wild dog is built for stamina. A deep chest, slim legs and a short coat that allows the animal to lose body heat quickly.
These animals don’t really stalk their prey they however do lower their heads and flatten their large rounded ears on approaching a grazing herds until they pick a victim.
Like all predators wild dogs generally pick injured young or weak animals whenever they can. Thomson’s gazelle ‘stot’ or bounce stiff legged. The fitter the animal, the louder the stot and the more energetic the bounce. This they do this to intimidate predators almost communicating the message that the predator doesn’t stand a chance.
It is during the chase that this team work becomes very effective. Dogs may Read more:tactics
