Pines for GreenThumbSundayGreen Thumb
Sunday BlogrollHow to join Green Thumb SundayThis is how my Balsam Fir Pine trees looked yesterday morning after 10 inches of snow fell the night before. We are getting a major snowstorm tomorrow, so I fear the poor things will be completely drooped after we get the predicted 12 inches. One of these was going to be our Christmas tree this year but it looks as if we will have to come up with another idea. Green Thumb Sunday - Overgrown Driftwood 2008-03-09 04:28:00 Overgrown Driftwood for GreenThumbSundayGreen Thumb
Sunday BlogrollHow to join Green Thumb SundayThe last couple of weeks I have been posting about a view from the rocks at the ocean. This week's post features a shot of what was on the other side of the rocks. This old, weathered piece of driftwood was tossed way up on land by the waves during a storm. It has almost been completely overgrown by the weeds and plants that flourish along this stretch of the coast.Just to the right of this scene, it turns quickly into a thicket of bushes with thorns and one of my worst plant enemies - poison ivy. I swear I break out with a rash just by looking at it! Stumble It! Digg It!
ABC Wednesday - G 2008-03-05 08:08:00 G is for Green Globe .......I was taking some stock photos of a couple of frosted globes made of crystal. The white one was sitting in the sun when I noticed the shadows that the continents were casting on the background as the sun was shining through it.I used a green colored filter in photoshop to cast the glow over the top of the globe. If I had used the green globe, then the reflection would have been green, and I think, less effective than the white. Overcast Morning at the Ocean 2008-03-04 07:57:00 Overcast Morning
This image was taken this past summer on a trip to the ocean. You probably recognize this area from past posts as it is one of our favorite places on the seacoast. The boys spend time fishing while I comb the area for photos. It doesn't matter how many times we return to this same spot, new photos always await me.Since joining Entrecard a couple of months ago, I have discovered many new blogs and have had many return visitors to my blog.I would like to thank all my new readers, and each month, I will be posting a link to the website of the top 10 visitors through Entrecard.CK MarketingYimtoBlanca DebreeLee DoyleAn Unsuspecting NotebookPhotos From Northern NorwayDaisy the Curly CatEZ DIY ElectricityUrutora No HiWildclipsThey are a great collection of blogs with a little som Read more:Ocean
Most Popular Photos 2008-02-29 14:25:00 Most Popular PhotoI have a voting system in place on my website that allows the viewer to rate my photos. All the images that have been rated, are shown on the Most Popular page, which is a link along the top of every page on the website. While browsing through the images, the viewer will notice a "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" when they hover over the photo. Clicking on one of them rates the image. The photo above of the Sleeping Kitty has held the number one spot for many weeks now. Another image of him holds the number three spot as of this posting. It has been interesting these last few months to see the images change positions as my viewers rate them.I like to watch when a new one appears on the end and makes it's way up the line.Clicking on any of the photos in any of my blog posts will
ABC Wednesday - F 2008-02-27 07:47:00 (The Wordless Wednesday
post is beneath this post.)F is for Faith .......This silver cross pendant is made of fine silver. It has the most beautiful design pattern embossed on both sides of it.It reminds me of a Celtic design. The flared ends also have intricate carvings.I used several backgrounds, including a black velvet, but the grain of the linen fabric seemed best suited with the silver.I also experimented with an all white, but the shadow leading into the image gives it more atmosphere. The bare white is desirable for stock images, but I'm keeping this one more artistic.

Sunday BlogrollHow to join Green Thumb SundayLast week's post had us sitting on the rocks at the ocean.Today I am posting a wider view of those weeds growing in the rocks above me.The storm clouds are still passing over in this shot and they give a dramatic feel to this image.I do wish I had used a smaller aperture for the depth of field, that way all the rocks in the foreground would be in focus too. Sunday BlogrollHow to join Green Thumb SundayBack to the days of summer with this post.I was sitting down on the rocks at the ocean, and upon turning around, back towards the shore, I spotted a patch of weeds growing out of the rocks above me.The clouds had just cleared and the green color looked quite striking against the blue sky.Upon a closer inspection of them, they had tiny little white flowers along the length of the stalk, so I think they are some type of wildflower.Next season, I will spend an extra minute checking them out to find what kind they are. Sunday BlogrollHow to join Green Thumb SundayFor the last couple of weeks, I have been posting about a hike through a swamp, and about a tree that a beaver had gnawed down. This will be the last post on the beaver, I promise. The above image is of the beaver's house, or lodge. It looks like a mass of sticks just piled together in the water, but there is really quite a network that he has built under the water that we can't see.He places the trees just so, and the entrance to his home is nowhere near the lodge - it starts quite a ways from it - almost like a tunnel of sticks and trees under the water. He builds several of these tunnels - it is always nice to have an escape route if needed.Since this was out in the middle of the swamp, this was as Read more:Beaver
In Need of Summer 2008-02-08 20:06:00 Summer at the Driving RangeAfter four winter storms this week, and another one coming tomorrow, we are in serious need of a reminder of summer.I remember this day being a very hot July afternoon, and the boys wanted to stop at the driving range to drive some golf balls.Always aware that a stray ball could come flying my way, I scooted to the end of the green to capture the neat arc of the stalls. One thing I did notice though, all the people must be right handed, as none were facing me to drive the balls with their left hands. Sunday BlogrollHow to join Green Thumb SundayFor the last couple of weeks, I have been posting about a hike through a swamp. The trails are maintained by the Audubon Society, and there are different colored markers posted on trees to mark the trail you are following. We came upon this tree - gnawed down very nicely by a beaver. I had to chuckle - that trail marker was pointing in a direction that I was not inclined to follow.I think he was trying to tell us humans to find another trail and leave this area to him. The Flu has Arrived 2008-03-13 17:56:00 The FluThe flu has arrived at our house with a vengeance. My son unknowingly escorted it through the door and it made his life miserable for over a week.My husband was the next victim, and after four days he is still having the chills and sweats that go with along with the fever. The coughing is wearing them out as it settles into their chests. As the chief cook, caretaker, and comforter, I fear my days are numbered.I'm hoping I can escape it with all the hand washing and sanitizing - but a scratchy throat has been nagging me all day. Time will tell!
