we’re still on the radar 2007-08-07 12:46:29 Apologies for the blackout. We’ve been on a short break.. And now we’re back!
First of all, we have some major news: we’re not going to remain english focused. And so, we’ve also started working on several variations of Voysage. Specifically in Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Russian. For the time being, we expect to release Chinese, Japanese and Korean in late december with the rest following before June next year.
However, starting very soon (sometime tomorrow), you’ll be able to create and use our core features on the English site. But we’ll still be adding bits and pieces over the next week — new server setup, it’s a design-in-progress. Don’t expect much at this point.
Some major travel news that caught our eyes:

it’s been a long journey 2007-06-15 05:58:24 It’s taken us a couple months to get to where we are now. Almost ready to go. We are still probably 85% done, with so much more we want to do. We’ve had to say no to alot of features. Which hurts, but in the end simplicity prevails.
We NEVER will become another travelocity/orbitz affiliate. Since the beginning, we have tried very hard to make sure that we approach travel in the most unlikely of directions. In today’s climate, OTA’s and their GDS’s always push for a sale. they want to sell you whatever they can, as fast as they can - and then say ciao.
But we are different. At the very least, we know that we are different.
As our form is still in it’s early stages, we’ll start posting more entries plus some super exclusive peeks behind the scenes. We wouldn’t be anywhere without the support of our families and friends. We would like to give you guys a big open thank you. So, again, thank you!
geobeats 2007-06-12 06:18:31 In case anyone hasn’t stumbled across geobeats.com, the innovative video travel guide site, here is their excellent flash player. Dive in and start exploring destinations like you’ve never done before!
the t-list 2007-06-12 05:28:58 The T-List is a list of interesting travel/tourism related blogs started by radaron. We’re currently subscribed to about 70% of the following, which makes for some excellent daily reading. Just happy passing this on to anyone who hasn’t consumed this great resource. (more…)
open registrations, soon! 2007-06-06 16:51:09 We’ll be opening registrations on Voysage.com starting soon, hopefully before the end of June.
We are currently on target to resolve several server issues which have been plaguing us since the (24/05).
More to follow.
feature: twitter support! 2007-08-10 08:37:32 Good news for those of you who are twitter.com users. We’ve just finished support for update posting to the twitter platform, horay!
Now all your blog entries, new photos or location status changes can be sent to your friends twitter streams. And soon you’ll have the option to syndicate your twitter stream into your Voysage dash. Push/pull style! Those who have pro1+ accounts can set their twitter options from their account settings page. More about this is in the faq.
Posting via SMS to the dash is still only accessible to pro3 accounts, but once we’ve ironed out most of the kinks, we’ll lower the access bar down to standard accounts.
There will also be quite a bit of downtime over this weekend due to more critical performance upgrades.
Enjoy! Read more:feature
so it’s official- alpha testing today 2007-09-20 20:23:15 So we’re “finally” set to begin alpha testing our platform today, if you’ve signed up, you’ll receive an email with the intructions. If not, post a comment here and we’ll add you to the waiting list. Only 500 accounts at this stage.
Activating later today, when I get back from the airport. More updates coming soon.
rolling out new posting/status options! 2007-09-06 18:31:13 Celebrating a new look. We’ve upgraded the UI for blog/journal/photo/status posting to speed up the process of updating your contact river in the dash- we know those page loads were killing everyone. Also you can now select which groups to signal, instead of default sending to everyone, even FOAFs. Brand spanking new menu updates will come into effect later today. And we should *almost* be finished with SMS posting by the end of the weekend. Yay
it’s an open social 2007-11-02 01:17:49 So we’ve been cramming in as much as we can over the past week. However we’re going to unofficially push back our next intake of users until monday!
The only reason, of course, is the immediate release of Google’s Open Social. Theres more on that here.
We’ll be spending the weekend drilling through the APIs to hopefully get some OS compatibility in the works.

And we had better start realizing the value that our data and our social capital have in this new eco-system. Forget page views. Forget sticky eyeballs. With OpenID, with OAuth, with microformats, with, yes, with FOAF and other formats — hell with plain ‘ol scrapable HTML! — Google and co. will be amassing a social graph the likes of which has yet to be seen or twiddled upon (that’s a technical term). Updates! Updates! 2007-11-22 19:39:15 We’ve been tooooo busy..
Our next intake of users will be on the 29th. Sorry to those who really want to get in, but we’re having some necessary growing pains. There will also be scheduled maintenance on the 30th between 9:30pm and 3am (PT) — so most areas will be unavailable.
If you’ve applied for an account, don’t worry. You’ll get one soon.
Anyway, we’re off to Brisbane tomorrow for BarCamp. Will post slides after the event if anyone is interested.
Weekend updates 2008-04-10 15:50:00 Voysage will be down for quite some time this weekend, due to some updates
. But after, we’ll be open to those who want to participate. We’ll also be in Sydney next week catching up with some friends and dropping into No Vacancy for a bit.
More to come.

in any built or installed since the early nineties, the door-close button doesn’t work. It is there mainly to make you think it works. (It does work if, say, a fireman needs to take control. But you need a key, and a fire, to do that.) Once you know this, it can be illuminating to watch people compulsively press the door-close button. That the door eventually closes reinforces their belief in the button’s power. It’s a little like prayer.” - Up and Then Down (The New Yorker)
