Presley is outraged that the song ‘Viva Las Vegas’ is being used in a Viagra commercial. But she’s powerless to stop it. Why? Because she doesn’t own the rights to the song. The advertisement takes place in a bar and has a group of aging men singing the song with the words ‘Viva Viagra‘ instead of ‘Viva Las Vegas.’ It is sung to the tune of Presley’s 1964 song.
The commerical aired on NBC’s ‘Nightly News.’ It will air during programs that have a 90 percent adult audience. Pfizer Inc., is hoping to grow their market for their erectile dysfunction druge. They hope to get men talking about the problem. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is protesting. The Cure Postpones their Tour 2007-08-28 11:47:34 I heard this on the radio and went to confirm it on The Cure’s web site. Sure enough, they have a letter to their fans that they have postponed their tour. It was going to be in September/October but it has been moved to April/May 2008.
Why? They aren’t done with their latest double album. They noted that they don’t need new songs to perform. Since, they noted it’s been 7 years since they played in Australia, 15 since they played in New Zealand, and they haven’t played in Japan for 23 years(!). (That makes them very old).
They say they feel it’s the right decision. Who can argue with that? All tickets for the 2007 North American Cure shows will be valid for the re-scheduled 2008 shows. And, (which some radio stations neglected to add) you can get a refund if you want one. However, you can still see them at the San Francisco Download Festival on October 6th. White Stripes Cancels Tour 2007-09-21 11:52:09 The White
Stripes one of my favorite bands, announced that they’re canceling their remaining tour dates this year. Former spouses Jack White and Meg White say the reason is acute anxiety from Meg. She is unable to travel. And that’s all the detail they give. Meg is known for being incredibly shy - going through entire interviews without talking. Still, this is a disappointment.
They are a ‘detroit garage rock’ but I think of them as one of the indie bands - even though they aren’t.
On July 14, 2007, they marked their tenth anniversary as a band. They performed at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. The show sold out in twelve minutes. There’s my favorite song about Janet, called Little Acorns.
They apologized for the cancellations and will issue refunds.
