Playing Around With The Blog 2007-11-03 10:15:12 Lately I’ve been trying on new looks for the blog. Wordpress has several templates to choose from and me, being me, had to check out a few. If you’ve visited a couple of times you’ve probably seen some of them. The most recent is my favorite I think. I know some people don’t like the darker blogs as much, but I love how my pictures look against the darker background. I have to apologize to Penny though, check out the previous post, as with this template her part in the word play is a bit dark. I tried to correct that obvious faux pas, to no avail. You can still read it, with a little effort and hopefully not too much eye strain. If I can fix it I will. Otherwise, I think, at least for the time being or until I get restless again with the look of things, I’ll be keeping this template. Hope ya’all like it, or at least that you keep reading. Cheers.
Word Play 2007-11-02 18:14:02 My friend Penny and I work at the same place, for the time being anyway since she’s retiring soon (yeah Penny!), and we love to occasionally play a bit of a word game with each other. Here’s how it went today… Oh, and Penny, I’m going to miss you when you leave this place, so you had best keep emailing, cause this is just too much fun. You have to read the exchange from the bottom up… starting with a… you’ll get it when you scroll down and start reading…

Another Great Photo Page, Thanks to Martin 2007-11-09 12:56:45 I was just perusing my spam comment pages, just to make sure there wasn’t an actual comment I wanted to allow, and what do you know… there was one. Somehow Martin
’s comment on my Amazing Photo
s post got stuck in the spam filter. I’m glad I looked first instead of just deleting as I normally do. In his comment was a link to another fantastic photo page on Flickr called Lost America. The same guy also has a website called Lost America that’s equally amazing. I recommend it highly. The shots there are unique and very cool. Check it either or both out by using the links and enjoy! And hey, thanks Martin for finding it and sharing. Cheers!

It’s Poetry Time Again 2007-11-08 15:40:12 It’s fall, and it seems that during these months my need to read and write poetry comes on strong. The two poems that follow are some of my older stuff.

Blink 2007-11-08 15:37:11 A blink
A moment
Everything
Can happen there
Worlds change
A world
My world
Yet
There is hope
Clinging to me
Feeling of peace
Of exactness
Like puzzle pieces
Fitting together
Snap
In place
Somehow
The mystery of the world
Magic
Running through me
Electric current
Knowing
Whatever happens next
Whatever change comes
Sadness
Awe
Excitement
Anger
There is a place for me
In it
In the moment
The blink
The mystery

Sounds Still In Silence 2007-11-08 14:58:30 Sounds still in silence
Whispers touch me
Breathing - still
I wonder
What would it be like
To fly…
Rumors fly
Words fly across the page
Swift
Well intended
Filled with meaning
I wonder how time flies
As I close my eyes
Gently lifting off
Away from this page
Flying…

I took this one yesterday. They are the last flowers to bloom in our yard this year and are putting up a good fight, hanging on pretty well. The dew was very heavy yesterday, as it’s been most days in the last week or so. Lots of fog hanging low in the hills.

Also love this one, which was taken with the phone camera as well. I need to remember to bring the actual camera with me, though this didn’t turn out so bad. It has a great fall Northwest feel. It wasn’t taken this year, it was actually taken two years ago.

This particular one is a favorite of mine… I took it with the camera on my phone while I was driving over Cornelius Pass (those familiar with the Portland are will know what’s often referred to as Corn Pass). There’s something about it… the light, the sky, the way the truck looks against it. I love this one.
I’ve created a few sets at my flickr site, the newest of which is called Quirky. This shot definitely fits. You can find all my photos at flickr by scrolling down my page and clicking on the flickr strip you’ll see there… or you can just click on any one of the photos on my blog and you’ll be whisked there as well.

Evening 2007-11-12 13:52:36
We watched the film, Evening, last night and about it I just have this to say… if you like excellent acting, watch this movie. It is a veritable powerhouse of women’s acting. Yes, there are some great performances by men in this movie, but women dominate the story and the screen.
Vanessa Redgrave is, as usual, stunning as Ann, a woman who examines moments in her life as she lay dying. Sounds morbid… it’s anything but. I’m always impressed with Vanessa Redgrave’s ability to act without speaking. Her eyes are, simply, luminous. She can do an entire scene, saying nothing, and communicating everything. It’s an art form and she’s a master.
Also in the movie are Claire Danes as the younger Ann, Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter who plays the younger Meryl character in the film), Natasha Richardson (Vanessa Redgrave’s daughter who actually plays her daughter in the film), Toni Collette, and E
Savoring The Day 2007-11-12 12:43:58 I feel like I’m playing hookie. Always do. It’s Veteran’s Day and I don’t have to work today. Neither does Karen. Nice.
We’re both sitting in the office, each at our respective desks on our respective computers, each with a cup of tea, music playing, and Weston curled up sleeping on his bed next to his red stuffed dog. It is storming outside… rain coming down in sheets, wind blowing all the leaves that had been clinging on for dear life off their trees and around the yard, wind chimes making beautiful sounds. It’s a great fall day in Oregon and here we are, all three of us, warm and cozy inside of our house. Life is very very good.
I love extra days off. It’s like getting a little gift. Extra time together to play or work around the house, to run errands, or just snuggle up and watch a movie. Any time out of the normal working week I can steal away for us, this little family of mine, the happier I am. As I said&hell

The strange picture taking continues. This one done with my phone camera as I was driving home. The white dot in the center is the crescent moon… not exactly clear in this shot and yet, I like it.
By Popular Demand 2007-11-23 18:59:40 You’ve spoken, and I’ve heard you. I had a few requests to change the template I was using for my blog. I had a dark background, as most of you who read regularly probably were aware. It seems the dark background was tough for some to read, so… by popular demand, I’ve changed it. At least, this is what it is today. I could change again, but if I do I promise I’ll keep the background white.
In A Nutshell 2007-11-20 13:35:19 We spent most of the last weekend finishing up shopping for Christmas gifts for Mary, Martin, Karen’s parents, sister, brother in law, our nephew and niece. I know it’s kind of early, or not if you’re some people, but we have to get things mailed off to the kids before we leave tomorrow for San Jose just to make sure they get everything by Christmas. This mailing to England is tricky, but we’ll get the hang of it.
San Jose… tomorrow we jump on the Amtrak and are taking the train down to see and spend Thanksgiving with Karen’s parents, and her sister and her family. I’m excited. Both by the prospect of taking the train (how fun, we got a mini sleeper car) and of seeing Karen’s family. Plus, I’m ready for some tasty bird as well. Ah Thanksgiving, the day when we are expected to eat too much and then be semi catatonic the rest of the day. Just lovely.
As for the rest of our weekend… the power went out on Sunday afternoo

510 2007-11-30 18:23:50 Somehow I missed the fact that I passed by 500th post without mentioning it, or really, without even noticing it. Seems I’ve been at this so long now it just wasn’t something on my radar. So, in honor of passing the milestone I will just say… wow. Who would’ve thought I’d still be at this two years later. Amazing. Yeah me. I’m throwing confetti at myself… ow… damn… got some in my eye. Bummer.

Thanks so much to them for putting us up, making such a great dinner (three nights in a row), and for being so warm, welcoming and gracious. Every time I spend time with them I love them more. We ate, we talked, we ate, we talked, we went to a movie, we ate, and we talked. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do on Thanksgiving? And Don… thank you so much for the clubs. Really… that’s by far the sweetest, coolest gift I’ve gotten in a long long time. I can’t believe you, one… gave me your clubs, and two… went to all that work to make them work for me. You are a great guy and I totally love them… and you. Thanks.
