MATT'S THE KING OF THE JUNGLE 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Former Busted singer Matt Willis was crowned King of the Jungle on 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here' tonight, beating favourite Myleene Klass into second place. When the result was announced, bemused Matt told hosts Ant and Dec "This is very, very weird. This has been an absolutely incredible journey. I had Jason, David and Myleene as the last three."Another favourite Jason Donovan made it through to the final but was voted into third place after the top trio had each faced a gruelling Bush Tucker Trial.Earlier in the day, all three survivors had to take part in the final Bushtucker Trials to secure a slap-up last supper.Jason the Don was first up with Fill Your Face, a challenge which pneumatic glamour girl Jordan braved during her stint in the jungle.Kylie's former love was given a glass helmet which filled up with numerous critters, including cockroaches, rhino beetles, locusts, spiders and a python. Despite not being able to breathe properly, the eighties heartthrob stuck
MOBY 'Gay Men Are Superior To Straight Men' 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Dance star Moby has no time for overly-heterosexual males, insisting gay men are far superior to their straight counterparts. The heterosexual music-maker is so appalled by macho male culture he hopes his future children will be gay because "they are less likely to get into a fight and less likely to date rape people".The Play hitmaker says, "I'm straight but I've grown up around gay people and gay clubs. They are superior to straight people. If you have a gay child you're more inclined to be a prouder parent."MAKE YOUR OWN REMIX OF 'NEW YORK NEW YORK'Moby's new single, 'New York New York' featuring the vocals of Debbie Harrydownload the official video hereand click on the picture below to download the original video featuring that lovely little chihuahua flying around New York City. ANNE CLARK - WALLIES 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Anne Clark (born Croydon, London, England, 14 May 1960) is an English poet and songwriter. Her first recording was 'The Sitting Room' in 1982, and she has released about a dozen albums since then.At the age of 16, she left school. She took various jobs, one of which was as a nurse in a psychiatric hospital. Clark then got a job at the local record store (and label), Bonaparte Records. In 1983 she released what I consider to be her greatest album, 'Changing Places from which this track originates. 'Wallies' was issued as a single in 1985 and still to this day sounds like a breath of fresh air. Anne Clark - Wallies

SALLY TIMMS and the DRIFTING COWGIRLS featuring MARC ALMOND 1970-01-01 00:59:59 'THIS HOUSE IS A HOUSE OF TROUBLE'Here's a wonderful song written by Marc Almond. Released in July 1987 'This House Is A House Of Trouble' is a bugger of a track to find, even though it's one of Marc's best. The record is by Sally Timms and the Drifting Cowgirls, long-time members of The Mekons, and features Marc Almond as guest vocalist. It's a story as much as a song, Sally and Marc bicker back and forth throughout this marvellous slice of pop chronicling the decline of their relationship.'This House is A House Of Trouble' Read more:DRIFTING

TAMMY WYNETTE - LONELY CHRISTMAS CALL 1970-01-01 00:59:59 IT'S CHRISTMAS #4"Christmas With Tammy" was initially recorded in 1970 when Tammy Wynette was at the peak of her vocal powers. The twelve track set is divided into two parts, the first half of which is comprised of hymns like "Silent Night" and "Joy To The World." The second half is far more interesting with modern holiday classics like "Blue Christmas" and "White Christmas" joined by the Carmen Taylor originals "One Happy Christmas" and "Let's Put Christ Back In Christmas". This is not a collection for having a sing along with the family, but one to sit back and really listen to and think about the true meaning of Christmas. It's a gift from Tammy that will never grow old. Here's my personal favourite, a musical slice of emotional blackmail if ever I heard one. Tammy Wynette - Lonely Christmas Call Read more:TAMMY
PATTI SMITH bids farewell to CBGB's 1970-01-01 00:59:59 New York rock club CBGB got its final gig on Sunday night as Patti Smith played to a packed house. The singer performed a 2 hour set which included covers of The Ramones, The Velvet Underground and Blondie amongst others. Television guitarist Richard Lloyd sat in on numerous songs, including a duet with Smith on his band's "Marquee Moon." Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea also made an apperance on songs such as The Who's "My Generation." At the show's end Smith read a list of names of deceased people who had played the club including Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone and Johnny Thunders. CBGB officially closes its doors on Oct. 31 after 33 year in business. The closing occurs after a year of disputes with their landlord left the club without a lease. STEVIE WONDER - SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMAS 1970-01-01 00:59:59 IT'S CHRISTMAS #6Stevie Wonder's 'Someday At Christmas' was originally released in 1967 when he was just 17 years old. The title track still remains relevant today, especially so in these troubled times. The song is an elegant and eloquent hope for a world that is filled with peace, equality and free of poverty , hatred and hunger. The song was referring to the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement, but the lyrics can easily be applied to the state of the world today.Someday At Christmas

PATTI SMITH - THE HUNTER GETS CAPTURED BY THE GAME 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Patti Smith (pictured above) from her 1964 New Jersey High School Year Book.Back in October when Patti closed the CBGB's all us Blondie fans thought she performed 'The Hunter Get's Captured By The Game' as some kind of back-handed nod to Debbie and the boys. Although originally recorded by Smokey Robinson, Blondie covered this tune on their 1982 album 'The Hunter'. However, I recently got hold of two live recordings of Patti Smith dating back to 1975 and on both occasions she sings this tune, some years before Blondie committed their version to vinyl. It's still not a patch on Blondie's version, but have a listen for yourself.'The Hunter Get's Captured By The Game' (1975 live recording)more Patti SmithPatti at CBGB's 2006 part 1Patti at CBGB's 2006 part 2Patti & Fred Smith - It Takes Time Read more:PATTI

THE CARPENTERS - DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR 1970-01-01 00:59:59 IT'S CHRISTMAS #5This album is actually the "best" of two Christmas albums that Richard and Karen previously released. "Christmas Portrait", their first Christmas album released in 1978, and "An Old-Fashioned Christmas", released in 1984 after Karen's tragic death. "Christmas Portrait" went platinum in the U.S. and became a hit all over the world, and it continues to do well. It is one of the few albums that has been a Top 10 hit on the Christmas charts in the `70s, `80s, and `90s. These are the songs you hear played in department stores and on the radio every Christmas season. In 1984, A&M released the second Carpenter's Christmas album, "An Old-Fashioned Christmas". The album features the best of the overflow from the Christmas Portrait sessions as well as some newly recorded pieces. Many artists cut a Christmas album to cash-in on their popularity. Unfortunately, too many take a very casual approach to their Christmas albums, not perfecting the sound as they would a regular album.
THE SPECIALS - GHOST TOWN 1970-01-01 00:59:59 THE SPECIALS - GHOST TOWNReleased: 20 June 1981Ghost Town marked the pinnacle of 2 Tone's achievements. Critics have called it "one of few singles to reflect perfectly a period in history" and "one of the most important records of our time". Released at a time when Prince Charles and Lady Diana were about to marry and inner city riots swept Britain the single summed up perfectly the irony of the whole period. It stayed on the number 1 spot for 3 weeks and became the labels first single to sell a million copies and also marked the first UK 12 inch from 2 Tone. With the exception of Dance Craze 2 Tone had been very quiet throughout the first half of 1981 and friction was becoming apparent within the Specials camp. According to Terry Hall the recording of the single was dogged by bad feeling among the various band members even getting to the stage were they wouldn't go into the studio together. The arrangements of the singles' others tracks also caused ill feeling. Terry Hall would have
BABYSHAMBLES & FRIENDS - JANIE JONES 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Released as a fundraiser for the Strummerville charity, this faithful "all-star" cover of The Clash classic rattles along at an endearingly energetic pace, and sounds like the one thing Babyshambles aren't notorious for: good, clean fun.Alongside the 'Shambles themselves, The Kooks. Guillemots, Mystery Jets, We Are Scientists, The Holloways, Dirty Pretty Things, Larrikin Love and Jamie T lend a hand, which mostly seems to consist of jigging about in the studio and bawling backing vocals every so often. Pete Doherty turns in an accent-perfect Strummer impression (no surprise, as Babyshambles famously psyche themselves up for shows by singing "Janie Jones"), and the whole incident passes without embarrassment. A fun single for a worthy cause.Janie Jones (Strummerville)You can hear Pete's solo vocal version as the extra track on the CD which you can buy here. MORE BABYSHAMBLES
ROD STEWART - GOOD MORNING LITTLE SCHOOLGIRL 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Rod Stewart's career really began in January of 1964, when he was discovered by Long John Baldry, who saw him playing the harmonica in a Twickenham railway station. Baldry approached Stewart to ask him if he would like to join his band. Stewart was excited to earn £35 a week performing. His first recording was in 1964, with the single "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl," written by Willie Dixon. He sang it with John Paul Jones, who went on to perform with Led Zeppelin.recorded Sep 10 1964released Oct 16, 1964UK Decca 7" singleGood Morning Little Schoolgirlmore Rod StewartPython Lee Jackson - In A Broken Dream
PYTHON LEE JACKSON - IN A BROKEN DREAM 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Python Lee Jackson was a 1960s Australian band. Rod Stewart originally only sang 'guide' vocals on this track, and the intention was for another singer to sing the proper recording, once Python Lee Jackson recruited another singer. It was felt that Stewart's vocals were so good that the single would be released as it was.Recorded in London in 1969, "In a Broken Dream" languished until the mid-70s when it rose to number three in the UK Singles Chart and #56 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.*re-uploaded*In A Broken Dream

SOFT CELL - THE ART OF FALLING APART 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Soft Cell's 1982 album 'The Art Of Falling Apart' is a milestone in Marc Almond's career. All the pop fans were turning away in their droves around this time, but the Gutter Hearts lapped this up. Initially the record came with a free 12" featuring two ten minute epics. Looking at the reviews of this on the www almost everyone slates them, but to me these are the real highlights. The 'Hendrix medley' ploughs through Hey Joe, Purple Haze and Voodoo Chile. 'Martin', based on the magnificent George A.Romero film is both chilling and thrilling.Soft Cell - Hendrix MedleySoft Cell - Martinmore Marc Almond heremore Soft Cell here
