1970-01-01 00:59:59
The Ordinary Boys new single is a bit of a wishy-washy affair, so here's three punk covers they did earlier on in their career.Ordinary Boys-What Do I Get (original version by Buzzcocks)Ordinary Boys-Babylon's Burning (original version by The Ruts)Ordinary Boys-The KKK Took My Baby Away (original version by The Ramones)

THE CREATURES-WILD THINGS E.P.
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The Creatures were formed in March 1981 when Siouxsie and the Banshees recorded a piece called 'But Not Them' for their next album which turned out only to involve Siouxsie and Budgie. This accidental pairing soon turned into a side project and instead of appearing on 'JuJu', the remixed track turned up in September 1981 on the 'Wild Things' EP by the newly christened offshoot The Creatures. The 5 track E.P featured the classic 'Mad Eyed Screamer', a beautiful track called 'Thumb', as well as the most radical cover ever done of the classic rock tune 'Wild Thing' originally recorded by The Troggs in the sixties. The 'Wild Things' EP debuted on the UK charts on 3rd October 1981 and reached number 24.Here's the classic EP in it's entirity.01-Mad Eyed Screamer02-So Unreal03-But Not Them04-Wild Thing05-Thumb

KAREN O feat PEACHES - BACKASS
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Despite the fact that the dubious thrill of dangling your scroat in reach of a man-eating tiger has severely lost its shock value since the original Jackass TV show was let loose on our screens, it seems there's still life in the ropey old format yet.A second feature-length Jackass film is in the offing, and despite your groans, its soundtrack does offer the tantalizing pairing of Karen O and Peaches, who have collaborated on a song entitled 'Backass'. Unfortunately, or otherwise, if he proves to be any cop, the song also gives the listener their first introduction to the dulcet tones of Johnny Knoxville. And although Karen O assures us that, "He's quite a crooner," we imagine that Dean Martin's whisky-soaked legacy will not be threatened.new updated link here

PAUL YOUNG-ON THE WILD SIDE OF SWING
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Paul Young has released the worst covers collection I've ever heard. He's slaughtered songs made famous by the likes of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Soft Cell, Elton John, Eminem, Metallica, Travis, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley and more on his recently released 'Rock Swings-On The Wild Side Of Swing' album.Hear for yourself his butchering of two classics by Bowie and Lou Reed below.Paul Young-The Jean GeniePaul Young-Walk On The Wild Side

WAYNE COUNTY & THE ELECTRIC CHAIRS - EDDIE & SHEENA
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Wayne County & the Electric Chairs are most remembered for the classic punk track 'Fuck Off', but my favourite was a single they released in February 1978.'Eddie & Sheena' tells the love story of Eddie (the teddy boy) and Sheena (the punk rocker). They met 'one night at a late night rock and roll show'. Eddie and Sheena end up marrying and 'Sheena put the ring right through her nose' and they named their son 'Elvis Rotten'.Eddie & Sheena

THE PLEASURE SEEKERS featuring SUZI QUATRO
1970-01-01 00:59:59
In 1967, while still in her early teens, Suzi joined the Pleasure Seekers, a Detroit band also featuring her sisters Arlene and Patti. One of the few all-girl garage bands who played their own instruments, they recorded a fine, gritty single for the local Hideout label, "Never Thought You'd Leave Me"/"What a Way to Die". Another single followed for Mercury, and the group even toured Vietnam to entertain troops. In 1968, though, Arlene quit the band to raise her kids (one of whom is actress Sherilyn Fenn), to be replaced by yet another sister, Nancy.Never Thought You'd Leave Me mp3What A Way To Die mp3

LARRY LUREX - I CAN HEAR MUSIC
1970-01-01 00:59:59
During the Summer of 1972, QUEEN were to be found lurking in the corridors of Trident Studios, London, waiting for any available studio time so they could work on their debut album. At the time, Trident staff engineer/producer Robin Cable was working on an old Beach Boys song called "I Can Hear Music". Robin decided to have a go at re-creating the 'Spector sound' and had heard FREDDIE MERCURY singing with Queen and asked if he'd sing the vocals. At Freddie's insistence, fellow Queen members Roger Taylor and Brian May added percussion and guitars, though bassist John Deacon was not present at recording. Freddie also sang lead vocals on the b.side "Goin' Back". Robin Cable loved the songs so much that he persuaded EMI Records to release it.However, it took almost a year for the disc to appear, and when it did, Queen's own first album was not too far away, and so a pseudomyn had to be used. It was decided to spoof Gary Glitter by crediting the record to LARRY LUREX. The single was r

BAY CITY ROLLERS WE LOVE YOU
1970-01-01 00:59:59
A TRIBUTE TO THE BAY CITY ROLLERS BY THE TARTAN HORDE WHO CONSISTED OF NICK LOWE, DAVE EDMUNDS AND CHRIS MILLER (AKA THE DAMNED DRUMMER RAT SCABIES).Here's the story...When Brinsley Schwarz broke up in 1975, Nick Lowe wanted to leave United Artists Records but the label refused to let him go. He proceeded to record a series of deliberately unmarketable singles in the hope of getting kicked off the label. The first was "Bay City Rollers We Love You," a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the teen pop sensations credited to the Tartan Horde. Much to his horror, the single became a hit in Japan, the Japanese branch of UA even asked for a full album. However, after another attempt "Let's Go To The Disco," credited to The Disco Brothers, UA dropped him from the label. After this he joined ranks with Stiff Records and the rest is history...The Tartan Horde - Bay City Rollers We Love You

SING IF YOU'RE GLAD TO BE GAY #3
1970-01-01 00:59:59
MAN2MAN MEETS MAN PARRISH - MALE STRIPPERRising from the ashes of their glam-punk band The Fast, brothers Paul & Miki Zone decided on a change of musical direction. Inspired by the sound of British bands like Soft Cell and Depeche Mode, Paul & Miki reinvented themselves as electro-pop duo Man 2 Man.Initially working with the legendary Bobby O, the band went on to record their Hi-NRG electro classic 'Male Stripper' with producer Man Parrish. 'Male Stripper' was a huge hit in gay clubs all over the world and entered the UK charts in September of 1986 where it hung around for 4 months. The song eventually reached it's peak position of number 4 when it re-entered the charts in February 1987.Sadly, this success was never to be seen by Miki, who died from an AIDS related illness in December 1986.Man2Man Meets Man Parrish - Male Stripperprevious postsSing If You're Glad To Be Gay #2Sing If You're Glad To Be Gay #1

CLINT EASTWOOD & GENERAL SAINT - ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUSTThe first in an occasional series of posts dedicated to great tunes I would never have heard of, if it hadn't been for the late great DJ John Peel.Dancehall DJ Clint Eastwood (born Robert Brammer) first made a name for himself performing with DJ General Saint (born Winston Hislop) in the UK. Noted for putting on lively, theatrical and humorous performances, Eastwood and Saint came to be known as a novelty act in Jamaica. In the mid '80s the two split up to pursue solo careers. Here's their 12" release from 1981.Clint Eastwood & General Saint - Another One Bites The Dust

'HAIRSPRAY' RESURRECTED
1970-01-01 00:59:59
As hideous as it seems, I'm rather intrigued that Hollywood has remade 'Hairspray'. I'm sure if you'd told Divine back in 1988 that almost 20 years later John Travolta would be playing Edna Turnblad he'd have thought it sounded like a bad acid trip. But here we have it, Michelle Pfeiffer in Debbie Harry's role as Velma Von Tussle, Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle and Christopher Walken is Wilbur Turnblad.Watch a teaser trailer here more pictures of John Travolta as Divine here

ORDINARY BOYS - I LUV U
1970-01-01 00:59:59
3 New Tunes 4 SundayThe Ordinary Boys say their new single is their "first official ballad". The song is about "expressing your love without cliches", which is why the title is written in txt speak. It is the soppiest of soppy ballads and it's not going to do their rock "n' roll cred any good. There's an honesty to the lyrics that is quite endearing, but ultimately you're gonna be wishing you were sat next to the sick bucketI Luv U

JUST JACK - STARZ IN THEIR EYES
1970-01-01 00:59:59
3 NEW TUNES 4 SUNDAYSometimes a little Madness can help a lot. Jack Allsopp better known as Just Jack had worked as a flower arranger, gardener, and cleaner ("anything to put crust on the table") before he landed a job at RG Records. Allsopp casually handed over a copy of his demo to the label's owner, Chas Smith, the man who used to sing and dance up a storm in Madness. Smith fell in love with Just Jack's sound and quickly signed Allsopp to a four album deal.Starz In Their Eyes

Jane Holzer (the former Jane Brookenfeld) came into Warhol's orbit in the summer of 1963, at the point she was becoming known in the fashion world as 'Baby Jane Holzer.' In 1964 Tom Wolfe enshrined her as 'The Girl of the Year,' and she became emblematic of the swinging Sixties. She appeared in Andy Warhol's films 'Kiss', 'Screen Test', 'Couch', and 'Camp'. KEN BOOTHE - IS IT BECAUSE I'M BLACK
1970-01-01 00:59:59
This tune is Ken Boothe's 1973 recording of Syl Johnson's classic "Is It Because I'm Black'. Boothe was one of the most popular Jamaican singers of the 60's and 70's. He always had a love for American soul music, and this is evident in "Is It Because I'm Black'. His performance of the song is a cry of pain, taken at a slow pace where the lamentation of the lyrics couldn't be any clearer. "Is It Because I'm Black' (most definitely a rhetorical question) is clearly of it's time, in which soul music was in the midst of a wave of social consciousness. Is It Because I'm Black mp3zshare link coming soon
