10 Signs That it is Time To Lose Weight
2007-08-03 15:42:00
In no particular order:1. People ask if you're pregnant2. People ask if you're pregnant and you're a guy3. You have rolls...over your shoes/your once sexy ankles are "cankles"4. Socks and Bras cut off your circulation5. You're breathing heavy, and you're not having sex, exercising, or making prank calls.6. There are Cheetos in your cleavage (I found a few leftover snacks in mine in the past!)7. All the clothes that are now available for you to wear involve elastic and are matronly8. The only bras that come in your size are white9. You feel like shit, all the time10. Your ass is now in your frontNote, I have experience the pain of being heavy, I've experienced them all, well except number 2. Not to mention intention from friends & family. It hurts to hear, like anything else, though it is up to YOU to make the decision to lose weight, on a healthy diet or even a crazy diet! It is not anyone else's decision!http://crazydiets.blogspot.com

Vintage Weight Watchers Recipe Cards and a Good Read
2007-08-02 17:22:00
For those of who that at are not familiar with author Wendy McClure, she started out with a site that showcased found vintage Weight Watchers Recipe Cards . Yellowed, and faded, these cards show how far we have come in the weight loss game. She's written a humorous and honest memoir of her diet battles called "I'm Not The New Mewhich is a great read for anyone who has ever battled the bulge, dealt with the angst of being over weight, and wondering if maybe they should stay how they are. She's also published the Weight Watcher card collection in a volume called "Amazing Mackerel Pudding Plan."Wendy caused a bit of a ruckus amongst attendees at the BlogHer conference in Chicago last week. It was those for weight loss vs. those for fat acceptance. As much as I love a good fight, I'm glad I missed that session. Why? As much as I love and respect those who can remain overweight, healthy, and love themselves, I personally am of the weight loss camp. I have suffered various weight related i

Alli Baba & the Shitty Drawers - Is Diet Drug Worth It?
2007-08-02 00:56:00
A reader inquired if I have tried Alli. The answer is no. Why?a. I have not spoken with anyone who has. b. I worked on one of the clinical trials of Xenical many years ago, the drug it is also marketed under in a higher dosage by prescription. If you've typed "oily stools" and "anal discharge" for a few months, you'd think twice about taking it. That said, people were losing weight.c. I am on so many other medications that I need to be on, that the thought of taking another pill is just not attractive to me. (Crazy pills, blood pressure pills, tummy pills.)d. I tend to have a nervous stomach. I don't know if it is actually IBS, but there are times where I get a little worried about making it from point a to point b.BUT if I do decide to take it I will:a. First try it out on the weekend, if I am going to have any adverse side effects, I'd like to be home.Have any of you, dear readers tried Alli, and have you had positive or negative experiences with the drug. Now that its been out f

Is It Possible To Lose Weight Without Excercise?
2007-07-30 23:01:00
Personally, I've never dropped any el bees without getting my ass off the couch. Between work and sitting at the computer, secretary's spread has been the bane of my existence, and any time I've decided to NOT exercise that spread, well spreads. I can dine on all the carrot sticks and water I want, if I don't move, I don't lose. For those who do, God Bless you and your high metabolism. I was born with the metabolism of a sloth. So all that said, Tim Ferris, author of the "Four Hour Workweek" (Which is not unlike my favorite song by Bandway "Four Day Weekend") has an interesting post on his blog about "How to Lose 20lbs of Fat in 30 Days...Without Exercising." (I must say I like his style, no excercising, a short work week, I wonder if he's single?)The diet is a bit male-centric, but then what isn't. He's based it on the diet of ultramarathoner Dean Karnares who used it to train for 50 marathons in 50 days. Wait a minute, don't they exercise to marathon? It's a lot of good prot

Apple Cider Vinegar - Magic Diet Elixir or Just A Bunch of Sour Apples?
2007-07-24 17:58:00
Back in my college days a friend of mine was freaking out because he had been spending much time with his face in the bong and found out he'd have to take a drug test for pretty lucrative job opportunity. I'll be honest with you, as this was pre-Internet, I have no earthly idea where I had heard this, but I told him:"Dude, drink vinegar, I heard vinegar will make you pass a drug test."He took a quick sip out a bottle of wine vinegar and spit it out. "C'mon you've got to drink it, you want that job don't you.""Yes""I know, why don't you just do it like a shot. You'll barely taste it." So he grabbed a shot glass out of the cabinet, poured himself a shot of the vinegar, toasted me, did the shot and proceeded to vomit tuna fish salad sandwich all over the kitchen and I proceeded to laugh my ass off. I think he did pass that test, but it certainly wasn't from the vinegar.A few years later I caught a friend of mine at a party tippling from not a bottle of booze, but a bottle vinegar

Alkalarian is a Not a Religion or a Planet
2007-07-23 21:53:00
One of my readers, Alan Who (I wanted to write "Dr.Who") tipped me off to a crazy diet I of which I was not aware-the Alkalarian diet.Despite my 14 years in the pharmaceutical industry, I am by no means a scientist, so that said I'm going to explain this pretty plainly. I must note that when diets get all scientific on my ass I tend to shy away from them. All I want to do know is, am I going to drop some poundage? I'm sure I"m not the only one who's skipped the jibber-jabber in the front of a diet book explaining How eating only X will cause you to to not only lose weight, because the X reacts with Y. Blah.OK, so the Alkalarian diet's concept is that "is that the over-acidification of the body is the single underlying cause of all disease" and that all the crap we eat makes our bodies acidic and therefore screws up our body's alkaline ph balance. The Alkarians claim:1. Fat is caused by over acidification. I always thought it was caused by doughnuts.2. Yeast & fungi gobble at your

Gazpacho - The Perfect Diet Food
2007-07-21 20:30:00
Cool, tasty, refreshing, nutritious, and even filling, gazpacho is the most perfect diet food. For those of you who do not know what gazpacho is, it is the official soup of Spain. It is a cold soup based on tomatoes. As with any colloquial recipe, there are endless versions. Personally, I like the true Spanish style that includes real tomatoes and some bread. Bread? Diet? Don't fret, the amounts are scant. You'll see versions that are essential salsa in a bowl, and those I dislike. What makes it a wonderful diet food is that no matter how you make it, it is low in calories and chock full of veggies. Remember it is prime time for tomatoes, go to your local road side stand or farmer's market and get GOOD tomatoes. I am a tomato snob, and this is not a recipe to be made with mealy, tasteless grocery store tomatoes. Not even those phony "vine ripened" ones that look nice but taste like nothing. It is important to chill the soup, as that is half the pleasure of eating it. Served with a ni

Pierce Your Ears To Lose Weight?
2007-07-20 18:22:00
The woman over at Diet Meals Recipes, has found an interesting way to lose some weight. It is called a "weight-loss staple." According to the blogger (sorry her name is not available) "Dr. Burrows claims that most people who get their ears stapled will lose staggering 10 - 30 pounds a month without any exercise!" Basically it is like accupuncture mixed with an earring. For more information, read the entire post here, which is pretty funny as well. Or alternatively, here is the site of the doctor, Dr. Burrows, who started this interested and crazy sounding procedure.PS. I think I'm totally going to do this!http://crazydiets.blogspot.com

Cucumber Water--A Refreshing Addition To Any Diet
2007-07-19 19:00:00
This is not a "crazy diet" but it is a delicious way to perk up all the water that you will drink (and should drink anyway) while dieting. I'm bad about drinking lots of sodas, so this gets me to drink more water.A few weeks ago I found myself buying some cucumber "flavored" water, which was a total rip-off once I realized I could make my own. There are those who argue that tap water is just as good, if not better than bottled water. You decide what you'd like to use. Personally, I am a tap water drinker and recycle old water bottles. Whatever makes you happy is fine with me.I highly recommend using unwaxed, fresh cucumbers that can be found at any farmer's market, vegetable stand, and possibly the organic aisle at your local store. You don't have to use an unwaxed cuke, but the fresh summertime cucumbers are much more flavorful. This is the easiest recipe ever! For a water bottle, peel half a cucumber, slice lengthwise into a few pieces. Fill bottle up with water halfway, stick cukes

C is For Crazy Cookie Diet
2007-07-18 20:33:00
Cookies? Diet? Cookie Diet? Well that sounds totally impossible, doesn't it? Usually the reason why you've gained weight is your love of cookies, so the whole concept of actually eating cookies to lose weight seems nuttier than a oatmeal macadamia cookie! There are various versions of the cookie diet, and while none of them involve a box of Oreos, they all appear quite cool. There are two camps claiming to be the originators cookie diet, Dr. Sandford Siegel (and sometimes the cookie diet is referred to as "the Siegel Cookie Diet") and "Smart For Life Weight Management Centers." I'll let them battle it out on their own. There is also the "Hollywood Cookie Diet."The basic concept of the various cookie diets are:1. Eating approximately 6 of the various versions of "cookies" which are really high fiber, nutritious bars (contingent on the manufacturer).2. Eating a "sensible meal" at night.3. Drinking boatloads of water with each cookieOne thing of note is that these are very low calorie di

Cabbage Soup Diet - Crazy As It Sounds It Tastes Good!
2007-07-17 20:10:00
Ok, there is nothing pretty or cute about the Cabbage Soup Diet except how cute you'll be, according to those who have tried the diet, when you're done. What's so crazy about cabbage? Well really nothing, but you can't help by think of it's noisy reputation. The Cabbage Soup Diet is a great stand-alone diet, or even just use the soup as a snack on other diets. Chock full of veggie, the high-fiber soup fills you up, you can eat as much as you want, and it can be modified within reason for your own particular tastes. As always check with your doctor before starting this or any diet! The basic cabbage soup diet itself goes as follows:Eat as much of the soup when you want.Drink at least 8 12 oz glasses of water dailyDay One: Eat all of the fruit you want (except bananas). Eat only your soup and the fruit for the first day. For drinks- unsweetened teas, cranberry juice and water.Day Two: Eat until you are stuffed will all fresh, raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try to eat leafy gre

Master Cleanse - Crazy & Popular
2007-07-17 18:40:00
The "Master Cleanse " aka "the Lemonade Diet" diet has been around for a long time, but has recently had a resurgence in popularity due to some comments made by performer Beyonce' about how she dropped weight prior to her starring role in the movie musical "Dreamgirls." Word is that she gained her weight back quite quickly afterwards. Other celebs who allegedly have done the master cleanse have been Lindsey Lohan and Nicole Richie. But this diet is so inexpensive, you don't have to be on a celebrity budget to attempt this dietWhat makes Master Cleanse so crazy is not only the large amount of weight you can drop in a short time, but the lack of food you will have to tolerate. This is a fasting and detox diet, and should not be attempted without permission of you primary care physician because fasting can be very dangerous. You've also got to be crazy to do this diet if you are not in a situation where you'll have 24/7 access to the bathroom, because you'll be spending a lot of time t

Watermelon- A Diet Friendly Food
2007-08-05 16:07:00
It is scorching out in my neck of the woods, and nothing is more enjoyable during the summer than a cold treat. My favorite thing to do this time of year is to cut up some fresh watermelon, put it in a freezable plastic container, and when frozen, eat it with a spoon like Italian ices. Watermelon is mostly just that, water, and naturally sweet. Additionally, you can take the frozen watermelon, puree it in a blender, and refreeze it if you want your watermelon ices a bit smoother. You can even dilute it more with water, freeze the melon puree, then when frozen, scrape it into a dish, and that is a "granita." You can add vodka to this if you're entertaining. The frozen melon can also be used in smoothies. There is a local drive-in near my house that makes awesome, but oh so fattening watermelon milkshakes in the summertime. I made my own fake version with a cup of skim milk, and the frozen melon, plus a Splenda packet and blended it for a second so it would still be chunky. Not exactly th

Is This The Future of Diets - The Self Absorbed You Tube Diet?

As I've previously mentioned, Weight Watchers and I never worked out very well. Why? 1. I'd miss meetings because of work or laziness, mostly laziness so I'd 2. Have to pay for the missed meetings and 3. When I did go, everyone got on my nerves, either pronouncing them the "Queen of Weight Loss" or asking stupid question. I don't play well with others apparently. Acutally, I'm a social butterfly

Don't Be a Sourpuss, Try the Grapefruit Diet
2007-08-08 18:54:00
There are several foods I can't look out without thinking of dieting: cottage cheese, Melba toast, celery sticks, and grapefruit. As a child I watched my mother go on numerous diets, but they all seemed to involve a half of grapefruit in the morning with Sweet'n'Low and a cup of black coffee. Sweet, sour, and bitter--the taste of diet in the days of yore. It was not uncommon to have a half a

Crazy Is A Matter of Perspective - The Sardine Diet

Some foods are best eaten at home, alone, with nary a person around to come up behind you and say "P.U.!" or "Gross!" Sardines are most definitely one of these foods. I'm talking of the classic canned sardines lined up in a can covered with oil, mustard, or hot sauce. Perhaps enjoyed with some crackers or on some toasted buttered bread and a slice of raw onion, tossed with pasta. Or, as I had
