By Kathy Ostman-MagnusenThis song is about lost love, hopeful for new wings. I posted part of a book I am writing about finding my high school sweat heart after thirty years on ezine, this song was written before I found him. I always lamented and pined for him. I dreamed about him at least once a week for years and years. I missed him so much that it ached. I first saw him when I was only fifteen in the halls of our high school. He was with someone else but I knew he would one day be mine. Birthday Song Best
2007-07-15 04:12:00
By Lindsey WilliamsThe most popular song in the English language undoubtedly was sung to you on your first birthday – and probably thereafter by you to many family members and friends dozens of times a year.Grown men and women in service clubs sing it to each other every week with gusto. It was the first song to be sung in outer space – by Apollo IX astronauts on March 8, 1969.Only the songs “Auld Lang Syne” and “For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow” are almost as often sung.By now, you have guessed that the famous ditty is “Happy Birthday To You.”Forerunner of the little song was composed in 1893 by two sisters. Dr. Patty Hill was principal of the Louisville, Kentucky, Experimental Kindergarten. Mildred Hill was a teacher there. In those days, children began school in the first grade at age 6. There they began the journey through the “three Rs” -- readin’, ‘riting and ‘rithmatic. The Hill teachers were the vanguard of a theory that children were creative and responsiv

Cole Porter's Song "Night and Day"
2007-07-14 10:59:00
By Garry Gamber"Night and Day" was written by Cole Porter for the 1932 Broadway musical, "The Gay Divorce," starring Fred Astaire. It was the last Broadway show for Astaire and the last show that he performed with his sister, Adele. In 1934 Hollywood produced a film version of the Broadway musical, retitled, "The Gay Divorcee." The Hays Office, Hollywood’s self-censorship body, determined that the original title was too controversial. The film starred Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in their first leading roles together."Night and Day" was the only Cole Porter musical number used from the Broadway production. As a footnote, one of the film’s big production numbers, "The Continental," by Conrad and Magidson, won the Academy Award for Best Song that year.In 1946 a film was made about Cole Porter’s life, called "Night and Day." The biography, starring Cary Grant as a heroic and heterosexual Cole Porter, was not accurate in detail or character, but Porter did not object.Cole Porter was

Favorite Christmas Songs for Kids
2007-07-14 02:06:00
By Jeremy WhiteWhat do kids love most about Christmas ? The gifts, of course! When Santa and the elves dream big, children explode with delight. But the holiday season is about more than gift giving, and kids celebrate Christmas in a variety of ways. Chief among them are Christmas carols. There's no better way for kids to spread a little Yuletide cheer than singing "Joy to the World" at the top of their lungs. Thankfully for those of us who see the magic of the Yuletide season most clearly through the eyes of children, there are plenty of great kids carols to go around. Here, we'd like to present you with the 10 kids Christmas songs we think are the best of the best, in no particular order:Joy to the World - Okay, we have to start with this one because we've already made a fuss over it. This song reminds us what Christmas is all about.Frosty the Snowman - What kid doesn't love to sing this song? There's no beating a white Christmas, and building a snowman with mom and dad is as fun

Give Vent To All You Feelings, Listen To Punk Rock
2007-07-12 10:45:00
By Tom JanisonPunk rock is a genre of music that opposes everything that traditional rock music represented. This kind of music came into prominence during the mid 1970s in countries like Australia, United States and the United Kingdom. However like all other genres of music it is rather difficult to pin point the exact time and place of origin. The exponents of punk music were bands like The Clash, Ramones, The Velvet Underground, Dolls of New York and Sex Pistols, in fact they were considered to be the earlier vanguard of punk music. Punk rock music is very aggressive and this is clearly evident in their dress, behavior, music, aggressive attitude, mannerisms and everything else that is associated with the punk musicians. Punk rock musicians had a DIY attitude and they were not very bothered about socializing. Music Lulling You to Sleep
2007-07-11 10:46:00
By Nathalie FisetThere are nights when as much as we want to drift off to sleep, we can't. It is said that slow and soft music can put individuals to sleep. Nothing tops the list better than New Age music. When talking about New Age music, artists who normally come to mind are Enya, Loreena McKennit and Clannad. Aside from these three Irish talents, there are other New Age articles making music who deserve to get an insomniac's attention, rather listening ears.If you are one of the people having trouble sleeping, then you can resort to other kinds of music aside from New Age. Here are some suggestions.1. Theta MeditationMeditation can not only reduce a person's stress, it can also increase his health and assist him in achieving a certain sense of balance and calmness. Recently conducted studies indicate that the states of meditation produce a vast amount of Theta brainwaves frequency. These pulses are embedded in the music therefore activating the person's brainwaves resulting to a r

Britney and Paris
2007-07-09 10:26:00
By Paul DavisMother Britney Spears takes her pants off in public with Paris Hilton, while proceeding with a divorce and custody battle for her children. Certainly this was not a very smooth move on Britney's part.Britney Spears recently dumped and proceeded to divorce her husband. Telling the world that she wants to improve her image and career, Britney's actions certainly don't affirm that. The newly-liberated pop star enjoyed a wild 'girls night out' in Sin City with Miss Hilton this weekend; dancing, laughing and chain-smoking throughout the night. The unlikely pair landed at club Tryst in the Wynn hotel, where Britney was spotted getting down and dirty on the dance floor to several Paris Hilton songs. In fact, things got so heated, Britney ditched her pants -- and danced around the club in a pair of fishnet stockings!Reading some of her fans posted comments on TMZ (which I've written below) is revealing:"Britney dumps Fed-Ex to hang out with Parisite Crotch???""Umm... where's

iPod iTunes - Sharing A World Of Music

By Korbin NewlynThe iPod is a compact, small piece of stereo equipment that has in today's society become very popular due to the fact that it is convenient and has the capability to store massive amounts of information and music. Purchasing an iPod has also become a sort of fad as well, as numerous people, both old and young, have a feeling that they must join the fad and go out and buy an iPod for themselves. In many situations an iPod MP3 player comes in handy. For example, in addition to music you can store what are known as podcasts from the Internet that can be listened to while you're outside on the road. Famous for their computer reliability and knowledge, Apple Computer is the manufacturer that produces and holds the patents for this popular device.Because information can be downloaded from the Internet onto iPods, iPod iTunes are also a significant part of this craze, due to the fact that there are thousands upon thousands of songs to pick from that are available to be downl

Too Much Music
2007-07-07 09:48:00
By Maria MorattoThere is indeed just too much music in the world and because we keep listening to it, we are missing great sounds around us. John Cage once said “If you develop an ear for sounds that are musical it is like developing an ego. You begin to refuse sounds that are not musical and that way cut yourself off from a good deal of experience.”Though his reasons for missing the ability to hear other sounds come from his “vision” for what music should be, it is very important to take his statement at its face value. The problem we face today is that, being too musical, we are forgetting ordinary sounds. If we define music as “any agreeable -- pleasing and harmonious – sounds,” we see that a lot of what is available to our ears today is not that. However, if we define music “as an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner” then yes, we must agree that even “rap” is a form of music. How

The Song of Your Heart
2007-07-07 06:24:00
By Robert CurtisThere are many forces and influences out there seeking our attention, vying for our passions. Some should be accepted and followed with full-fledged allegiance. Others should be avoided like a plague.Follow your heart. Follow those things that will life and build you, make you a better person for having had the experience. There is a song, deep in our souls, aching to be sung. Listen to the melody of destiny playing deep in your heart. Listen to the harmony of success as it drowns out the discords of challenges and fears. Listen to the arias of desire, sweet and pure and clear, as they give you comfort and direction.Trust in the song of your heart. It was written for you. It is a symphony of life with many movements. Some are light and airy. Some are purposeful and powerful. Others are deep and moving. Our life is truly a stage, with many actors and actresses making their entrances and exits. But the symphony of life which we hear and experience is only our own.Our talent

Love Songs Bring Out All The Emotions And Feelings
2007-07-06 22:16:00
By Tom JanisonFalling in love is perhaps one of the most beautiful experiences in one’s life and songs are perhaps the ultimate medium through which this feeling can be expressed beautifully. Now love songs are one genre of music that clearly reflects the feelings of the writer and the singer. Someone rightly said that to sing love songs or to write love songs, one needs to be in love to get the real feel of it and express it in the song. When a person is in love the feelings and joy know no bounds and that is why they want everyone to know about their love through love songs. Whenever someone is in love, you will find them sometime or the other humming a tune. Love and music has a connection that is very deep and this connection is universally found and accepted. Love and music have a connection that run very deep indeed. The right kind of music and atmosphere makes it all the more easy for a person to express their feeling to their beloved. Gospel Music Appeals To All
2007-07-06 05:50:00
By Tom JanisonMusic has a universal language and it can express any emotion and feeling. Music says different things for different people, but the universally acknowledged thing is that music can express anything. Gospel music is a kind of music that is traditionally been sung to express faith, devotion and praise to god. The genre of gospel music is characterized by dominant vocals and strong use of harmony of a religious nature. Gospel music is more particular to Christianity. Gospel music was created by the exponents of African American churches during the 1930s. Gospel music is said to have originated during the enslavement of the African. At that time they were not allowed to pray openly and even if they were permitted they had to do it with their masters. It is due to this, that they started to pray secretly, for organizing meetings unknown to others. Here they developed their own hymns and music for the prayers and later this came to be known as Gospel Music .In Gospel Music, the

Managing Your Time, when Music isn't Your "Day Job"
2007-07-05 10:15:00
By Linda DessauYou CAN do everything.Repeat.You CAN do everything. What you cannot do, however, is do everything at the same time, or create a day that’s longer than 24 hours. The two most important aspects of time management are acceptance and choice. When you think of time in terms of acceptance and choice, you’re never “wrong”, “bad”, or “lazy”, you’ve just made certain choices. When you think in terms of discipline and willpower, however, your inner critic can really do a number on you. We already have low self-esteem as artists; let’s not add to the problem!!An example of this from my own life is that I choose to live alone instead of with a roommate; that means I also choose higher rent and the need to bring in enough income to cover that rent. When sneaky thoughts of resentment or self-pity creep in to my head, I need to remember the choice that I made, and I need to accept this is how things are for now. Here are some tips for using choice and acceptance to ma

The Zanzibar Islands And The Music Of Tanzania
2007-07-02 19:44:00
By: Ian WilliamsonThe music of Tanzania , especially along the coast and on the spice islands has been influenced from within the African continent and also from the ancient eastern trade routes. The Arabic and Indonesian cultures have had strong influences on the Zanzibar islands as well as the Swahili coast line of Tanzania. The Arabic influence is especially seen in the singing and many of the stringed instruments - the cultural intercourse between Tanzania and the Arab world was mutual, as evidenced by the exportation of the leiwah dance to Bahrain.Over the past three years in particular the Sauti za Busara (Sounds of Wisdom) music festival is becoming increasingly popular from within Tanzania and from overseas. For many years now the Swahili Music Festival has firmly established itself as one of East Africa’s finest annual events. It takes place over five days and brings people together from different backgrounds and cultures all under the umbrella of music. In Past years the festi

Music Cellular Phone Ringtones
2007-06-30 06:17:00
By: Michael SanfordRing tones represent an ability to customize the cellular phone experience, and customers are buying them. The worldwide market for ring tones topped $2.5 billion in 2004, very little of which was spent in the United States, where sales amounted to only $159 million. Ring tones cost between 99 cents...The ringtone market has exploded as a revenue stream for both wireless carriers and record labels, which see phones ringing with 30-second clips of their artists' songs as an easy and potentially lucrative way to promote music. The global ringtone market is estimated at around $3 billion.A cellular phone ringtone is a sound file that is played by a cellular phone. The facility was originally provided so that people would be able to determine when their phone was ringing when in the company of other mobile phone owners.Cellular phone ringtones are melodic sounds a cellular phone makes when an incoming call or message arrives. Trusting a Music Site to Download and Burn Free Music
2007-06-29 10:15:00
By John RiversFile-sharing programs are the most controversial way to download and burn free music on the Internet, but file sharing has never been more popular. Programs like KaZaA, Limewire, Ares, Shareaza, WinMX, iMesh seem to be the most popular for gathering totally free music to download. Lawsuits by the music industry have slowed some of the illegal sharing of pirated music, but there are new file-sharing programs that use methods to allow users to be anonymous. These file-sharing programs are also called P2P, or peer-to-peer programs. Unlike the old Napster network that ran all exchanges through a central server, this totally free music download software, using P2P networks connects users directly to each other allowing them to download and burn free music. It should be mentioned that file-sharing programs are not illegal in themselves, and their creators like to point out their many legitimate uses. Some unsigned bands use the file-sharing networks to distribute their music thro

Music for Healing and Relaxation
2007-06-29 10:13:00
By Daniel KobialkaSound and music have been used for millennia to create change. Tribal drums and chanting, mantras, and hymns all have known effects on consciousness. But it is not all "in our minds", sound and music also affect our bodies. Snake charmers and fire walkers can attest to how sound and music can alter consciousness and make the body impervious to damage. And now, so can scientists.Science has devised modern ways to use sound. The military transmits radio frequency waves to submarines under the polar ice cap using sound wave theory. Nikola Tesla was a true master of "harmonic resonance." He could bring down a tall building with a hand-held jigger (a mechanical device that produces a jolting motion) set to the building's resonant frequency and located in the basement on a structural beam. Earthquake-proof buildings are designed with unequal distances between floors, which disrupts this resonant frequency. Ultrasound is used in medicine to determine the presence of abnormal

Develop a Guitar Practice Schedule
2007-08-14 05:59:00
By Kathy Unruh Now that the New Year has begun it's as good a time as any to develop a Guitar Practice Schedule . Let's face it, if we want to be better guitar players, then we need to play! Notice that the key word here is play, not work. But, if you're anything like me, then you know how easy it is to let other demands on your time get in the way of practicing your guitar. Time management is always a challenge, but I find it helps when I write things down and can visualize my priorities. Today I would like to help you develop a practice schedule so you'll be able to reach some of your goals as a guitar player.Every guitarist's practice schedule will differ due to personal lifestyle, job & home demands, hobbies, social life, etc. Being a beginner, intermediate or advanced guitar player will also effect how and what you practice. As a beginner, your main goal is to develop the calluses, strength and coordination skills needed to play the guitar. Practicing 15-20 minutes a day should

Bare Bones Rock Band Equipment
2007-08-14 05:58:00
By Kathy Unruh What are the "bare bones" needed to start a rock band? Well, besides the desire itself, one of the first requirements is having the ability to sing and/or play an instrument. Then you will need to find other band members. The size of the rock band will be up to you. Some "power bands" of the 60's (ie. Cream, The Jim Hendrix Experience) only had three members. These rock bands created a huge sound with only one lead guitar player, one bass player and a drummer. At least one of the band members will need to be able to sing, but if they all can, that's even better.Assuming your band members have their own instruments, some additional equipment you will need when your band is playing a gig includes:microphone(s) mic stand(s)guitar stand(s)cablesassorted jacksspeakersmonitor(s)power mixerYou can either purchase these items one by one, or find a PA package that puts it all together for one price. You will generally find a better deal in purchasing a package when you are just

Dealing With Music Critics
2007-08-14 05:58:00
By Kathy Unruh If you are an aspiring songwriter, musician or indie artist, then sooner or later you will come face to face with music critics. The question is, how will you respond to them?Last Saturday night I watched a program about The Legends of Rockabilly Music . It was fun to look back in the history of rock and roll and see the pioneering artists who started it all. Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis were among the various stars being featured. What struck me most about these young performers was the shear determination they had to stay the course. Regardless of what the music critics said, they believed in their music and kept right on going. It wasn't always easy for them either. But that's probably the way it is for many of the famous people we admire today. We see the end result of their effort and think- wow, what a lucky break. But we often miss the hard road they had to follow in order to get to that place of recogniti

Mobile DJ Equipment
2007-08-14 05:57:00
By Richard Romando A mobile disk jockey (DJ) is different from a club or radio DJ. Although it is often considered an alternate career option, there are many mobile DJs around that consider this their primary career. Mobile DJs travel with their own sound equipments and play diverse sets of pre-recorded music, on a variety of media, for a specific audience. Mobile DJs usually tend to work on lease at private functions such as wedding receptions, school dances, and social occasions. Along with this, they are also seen in bars, discos, or even block parties. Unlike many normal club DJs who play a fixed genre of music, mobile DJs often play more mainstream selections of music from multiple genres and they often take requests. The most essential equipment that is required by mobile disc jockeys for performance consists of sound recordings in preferred medium, which is often vinyl records, compact discs and/or mp3s. Along with this, two devices for playback of sound recordings are also neede

Assembling Drum Sets
2007-08-14 05:56:00
By Richard Romando A drum set includes a number of drums, cymbals and other percussion instruments which are arranged in such a way that a solo drummer is able to play them quite easily. Drum sets can be bought at local music stores or can be ordered online. When a drum set is bought, the drums and other musical components arrive in pieces, packed in one or more boxes. Hence, it is essential to have a good idea about how to assemble a drum set. It is recommended that the first step before assembling drum sets is that all the pieces of instruments should be taken out of the boxes and be arranged on the floor. The assembly of any drum set always starts with the bass drum, as it is the biggest amongst all the pieces of the drum set. It is important to distinguish between the front and back of the drums. There are two large drumheads that come with every drum set which need to be seated on each of the two brass drums. This seating should start with the back head followed by the front head.
