Mappr! Where do people eat sushi 2007-08-05 08:56:54
This application uses the GEO-tag in Flickr images and place it on a map (just the US). This then also subsequently shows sort of a heatmap over where people
actually eat sushi! (…and takes pictures of, post it on Flickr with a geo-tag, I know - but still!). The map shows clearly that it eating sushi is more of a coastal thing. Understandably, but it becomes very visible when put in a map like that. I love that! I like to view information from new angles like this. (You can of course look at other tag’s than sushi, but that’s all we are into, isn’t it? :))

The World-Wide Sushi Restaurant Reference 2007-08-10 11:43:33
This site has an ambitious project going wanting to list all sushi restaurants in the world! They rely on the participation of its readers to keep the listings complete and up-to-date. They use web-based forms to submit and update information about sushi restaurants, and also to submit peoples opinions and reviews about listed restaurants. They say that the Reference currently lists 3,162 open restaurants at 3,357 different locations! Quite impressive! The site started in 1994, but you can also see that it has some problems keeping it up. Several of the locations in Oslo does not not exist anymore for instance. I will send them an update on this. So - if you are looking for something in your neighborhood or want to update with your info, you should check out this site.

Sushi Celebrity - Homer Simpson! 2007-08-10 05:30:57 Ahh. Of course - we knew it! Our yellow friends Homer
and his family are sushi eaters. Homer maybe not a huge fan after this episode, but he is a gutsy one. He tries out Fugu! This happens in the episode “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish”. The plot that leads to disaster (as usual…) is as follows:
Bored with having meatloaf for dinner, Lisa suggests that the family, instead of having pork chops the next night, go to the new sushi bar, “The Happy Sumo”. Homer reluctantly accepts, and the family drives to the restaurant. When they arrive, Homer starts by ordering a few things, but when he discovers that “this fish is delish!”, he eats everything on the menu, including a type of sushi called Fugu.
Well, whats the point just talking about it? Why don’t we just watch it :

Gu Gu Sushi & Roll - Hermosa Beach, LA 2007-08-09 07:45:56
Special guest review: (Drrrrrrrumrrrrrrrrrroll) Allison from Sushi
day.com!!!!!
A couple of days ago I met an old friend of mine for sushi. I have known her since elementary school, (we were best friends back in the day) so we like to get together when I am back at home or when she is out where I am now and gossip about old times. So I was back home, and after much discussion and indecision about where to have dinner, we decided to go to Gu Gu Sushi & Roll in HermosaBeach
. She had been there a few times, but this was the first time I have been to Gu Gu Sushi.

White wine with sushi? 2007-08-08 15:40:20
To add to your culinary pleasure, accompany the sushi with white wine… Well, bear in mind that the man that recommends this is a winemaker himself, but he does argue his point to why though.
“We always think of beer or sake [with sushi],” says Mick Schroeter, winemaker with Geyser Peak Winery in Sonoma County, Calif. Beer can be very filling, which doesn’t bring balance to the sushi dish. Sake isn’t that popular in the U.S. Wine, however, goes with everything, according to Mr. Schroeter.

Commission adopts “new” uni standards 2007-08-08 10:00:27
Uni is the roe from sea urchin, and is enjoyed as one of the most popular sushi dishes. Over the years, sea urchin industry members have labeled uni by the different letter grades - A, B and C. This sounds quite simple to do and easy to understand.
Now The California Sea Urchin Commission
, calurchin.org, has adopted a new uni grade standards for clearer identification… Hm. According to Executive Director, Vern Goehring, “This is a voluntary action on the part of the Commission. It is important that we educate those who process, sell or eat uni, by stating these new, different grades.”

Sushi puzzle Flash game 2007-08-15 05:30:19
This is another sushi Flash
game. A puzzle game this time, where you get to play with your favorite food. You are to place similar nigiri items next to each other, four in a square and then they disappear.
Not really an inspiring game, but you know… it’s about sushi. And I am a loony anyway. The game site describe it as - “An addicting time-waster of gourmet sushi matching.” Not really very addictive for me. Worth about five minutes.

Not exactly fresh flying fish roe 2007-08-13 16:45:10
Tobiko, or flying fish roe, is the small, usually orange fish eggs that look like caviar. It is widely used in sushi - often as decoration on top of rolls - both for color, taste and crunch. But as an article I found at Chow.com can tell us, it is not exactly fresh
from the sea. Tobiko is actually a processed food.

How to make Wasabi Peas! 2007-08-19 12:52:36 I haven’t tried making wasabi peas myself yet, but I will. I got this recipe from the Wasabi Pea Appreciation Society on Facebook. (Before Pea) and A.P. (After Pea)”. Very funny!
I have a review on different types of wasabi Peas coming up soon, just need one more picture of my favorite bought peas but in the mean time, here is a recipe for how to make them at home:
