More Snow!
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Enough is enough. I say the snow needs to fall on the northeast... right? On December 20, over 25 inches then 6 days later another 10 inches and this morning, 7 inches. In the past, we'd get snow, then it would melt then maybe, just maybe another storm would hit and the sun would return. What's wrong with this picture?Cross country skiing in the neighborhood is great though!

Dating After 50 in 2007
1970-01-01 00:59:59
It's a new year and a new reason to meet people but what's the best way to do this?If you have an interest, explore it and perhaps that is where you will meet new people. Remember that each person you meet whether male or female can lead you to more relationships. Do you like hiking? If so, join a hiking club and talk with all the people who interest you. If you make a connection with a fellow hiker, then you share your common interests and decide how to stay connected. Don't focus on dating - look at making new friends. One thing could lead to another and if not, at least you've had some new trails to hike, mountains to climb and places to discover. Here are some suggestions from Jeff Cohen about fun places to meet new people. What works for you? Where have you met people? Where have you NOT had luck? No More Excuses: 15 Fun Places To Meet Someone New to DateFrom Jeff Cohen,Struggling to meet new people? New places to meet ... comments and suggestions
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Here are some email replies that I received with suggestions and ideas of where to meet new people ... thanks for writing!First let me congratulate you on a nice blog site. It's amazing the number of places one can meet people, if you're so inclined. I think it depends on you & your attitude. I meet people at bars, grocery stores, shopping at the car wash or in other words, whereever I am. Don't be afraid to speak first, although as an attractive woman I'm sure some jerks will take that as a come on.... so what, maybe it is. Cheers from Houston, TX Bruce-----------My parents were set up on a blind date. That seems to work for them! -- Angie-----------Maggie, As a professional white male from Houston, I too have your same interest of where does one find someone that is not either just playing on the interent, dysfunctional, and/or a sexaul deviant. Perhaps we should check the local zoo! Seemingly all the animals normally caged seem to be out and out this website. Best of luck in

Dating after 50: What makes you smile?
1970-01-01 00:59:59
"If you do what you love then the money will follow,"...we've heard this before, right. Well, I think, if you do what you love, then people will follow you --- around. Find something that interests you and do it with passion. Like reading? Going to movies? Traveling? Hiking? Walking? Swimming? Whatever makes your heart sing is what you'll need to do. If you are hiking and make friends then you have new hiking mates. If you are at a football game but you detest football, then it will show and those around you will not be happy either. Do what you love. Some of the things I love to do (remember you don't have to be good at these things, just have to do what makes you smile) include walking, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, going to movies, writing, reading, throwing darts, watching the sun rise. I'll keep doing what I love and soon someone who shares my passions will be there to join me. Forget about going to bars, or churches, or joining clubs unless they interest you.Rem

Call me lucky!

Walk the walkI adore people interaction and therefore decided to volunteer as a tutor with Adult Education while I am waiting for my next job to open up. Adult Ed students can be high school students who don't fit the usual mode and would probably drop out. If they are under age 21, the school district will pay for their education, if they are over 21 they pay per credit hour. When they graduate they receive a diploma, not a GED. Usually if they are over 21 and paying they are more serious and focused and want to move on.As a tutor I make myself available and wander through the classroom. If students need help and are doing math or science, I direct them to any of the other "real' teachers. If they need help with anything that has to do with words not numbers, I'm there to help! Geography, History, Literature, Vocabulary are my favorites because I relearn each time I help someone. Really, how many times do you review the state of the economy of Idaho, the main crop of Bolivi

Best Valentine Gift of All Time!
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Valentines Day is this week. This is the day when lovers express their feelings for each other through cards, gifts, flowers, dinners and special moments. And what do lovers do on the other days? So, what do you think of this holiday? Is it an unequal occasion where the female "expects' gifts of love and is disappointed when they don't arrive? Do men expect gifts, flowers and other love items on this day as well? Do you really need to purchase diamond earrings, perfume and candy to express your feelings? What are your feelings? If you really want to be different, sit down and write what you feel.Take out a blank piece of paper and just put into words the stuff in your head. Those letters express your feelings of love in a way that a Hallmark card could never achieve. Statements that refer to early days, shared moments, difficult times, achievements, successes, sunrises, vacations or family are the best. Even if you don't feel you can write, just write about a moment in time t

Call Your Mom!
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Happy Valentine's Day to you all.Remember that today is the day to pick up the phone and tell someone you love them, or respect them or admire them or at least ... that you think of them.Call up your mother, daugher, father, brother and say hello. If you have an aunt or uncle that you admire, visit them and let them know this. Life is so precious and time is so sweet that there is every reason to speak your words of kindness now.Last year, on a whim, I decided to stop and visit my two very old, very wonderful friends - Henry & Nadine. It was a short visit but when I left their house I felt so good about seeing them again. A month later I heard that Henry had died and all I could do was smile that not only did he have a rich and full life, but that I made the time to see them when I did. So, who are you going to call or write or visit or email? If you have a mom, call her first. Ok, first if you have a wife, kiss her, then call your mom. If you have a husband, kiss him, then call y

Fearless Living
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Now that the sun is out again, the snow is melting and Colorado is once again smiling it's time to get out and move. I feel very blessed to live in an area where I can take walks and not be afraid to be outside in the dark of night or before the sun rises. Maybe it is foolhardy on my part but it works for me. I guess it's about fearless living… going forward and encountering what's in my path. It's either that or avoiding new experiences and hiding behind "what if's" … now what fun is that? I suppose the most destructive thing about "what if…" is when it comes true. Then what? You were right to be fearful, right? No, of course not.I think that there is something we all fear whether we announce it or not. Whether it stemmed from a childhood lack, an adolescent experience, teenage embarrassment, or grownup mistake … it can affect the way we act and react as adults. For instance, as a child if you lived in poverty (or close to it) you may take a high paying jo

Job Hunting Update
1970-01-01 00:59:59
First of all, how can it be that I am still unemployed? Ok, in September I traveled, in October I played, in November I ate but in December I got serious about getting a job. So, is this the right time frame – three months? Or is it more like six months? I have four active applications in nearby universities. Active applications means the process is underway and I haven’t been ruled out. It’s just that one was submitted in Sept 2006, one in December 2006 and two in January 2007. I’ve received letters telling me that I’m qualified and they will get back to me as the search committee moved forward.. A few follow-up phone calls have assured me that the process is underway. So, in the meantime I have some other options … contract work, web page design, temp agencies. You know, I looked forward to having time off, to traveling and getting my life in order. Now, I look forward to getting back into a routine, to working toward a shared goal with a team of people. I knew all

Today is the day!
2007-04-25 00:01:00
It’s a rainy day outside and I’m working from home (yup, you heard me right, working!) and am loving the scenery. The sky looks like a gray wool blanket blocking out the sky, the mountains, the sunshine and I think it’s wonderful. Colorado folks so rarely get this type of weather that it makes me sort of homesick (Upstate NY) but only briefly. This is a cocoa or hot tea type of day … or soup … or bread-baking kind of day. Did I mention how much I appreciate being home today so that I can see, smell and watch the weather? Ok, enough about the weather. You want to know about me, right? Right.I accepted a position at a university in Wyoming. I am an instructional designer and my days/hours are flexible. I drive to the office about 2-3 days per week and work from home the rest of the time. I work longer and harder when I am home because there is no need to push away from the desk and get in my car and leave the site. I love the people I work with because 1) they have integrity

The Dash Poem
2007-04-25 00:08:00
by Linda EllisI read of a man who stood to speakAt the funeral of a friendHe referred to the dates on her tombstoneFrom the beginning to the endHe noted that first came the date of her birthAnd spoke the following date with tears,But he said what mattered most of allWas the dash between those yearsFor that dash represents all the timeThat she spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved herKnow what that little line is worth. For it matters not how much we own;The cars, the house, the cash,What matters is how we live and loveAnd how we spend our dash.So think about this long and hard. Are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left,That can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enoughTo consider what’s true and realAnd always try to understandThe way other people feel. And be less quick to anger,And show appreciation moreAnd love the people in our livesLike we’ve never loved before. If we treat each other with respect,And more often wear a

And just say things like, "I know I should tell you this more often -- I love you and am glad you're in my life." This can also be said to your spouse (wife or husband) children, partner, aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, etc. Not your boss. Not your best friend's spouse or partner. You get the picture, right?Ok, bye and love you!Maggie
