Just over 2 weeks left ...
2007-08-18 18:01:00
and I will be on my way to Creative Escape.  I can't believe it's finally here!  Man o' Man I am excited.  All I can think about is planning for CE.  I'm heading there with several of my friends from the Tampa area and I'm bunking with Linda and Mary who were my roomates for the first CKU Orlando I attended.  We had a blast then, and I expect we will on this trip as well. Today I went to the local stamp store.  I was going to buy a pink flat pack type thing for my tools.  The flat pack was by EK and came with all the tools -- now I don't need all the tools but it is pink so I decided that I'd get it anyway and give the stuff I don't need to someone who does.  I got to the store and they had something a little more to my liking and less expensive too.  This is a shoulder tote (also by EK and also pink) which holds tools and paper plus whatever else you need.  It will work perfectly.  So of course I bought it.

Free association is described as a "psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content." Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self. I say ... and you think ... ? Restocked On Books
2007-08-25 21:31:00
Went today to the used book store and traded in some books and came home with quite a few for my TBR (to be read) pile.  Needed to have some for airport reading since I'll be traveling to Phoenix soon.  I picked out the following: The Killing Hour (Lisa Gardner); Guilty As Sin (Tami Hoag); Gone (Lisa Gardner); Kill The Messenger (Tami Hoag); Still Waters (Tami Hoag); Lucky's Lady (Tami Hoag); and Promise Me (Harlan Coben) I was looking for some more of the Harlan Coben books, but Promise Me was all they had on hand.  I'll probably drop by one of the other used book stores in the area to check out what they have.  Some of these I can't wait to start reading.

My New Luggage
2007-08-24 21:43:00
My suitcase was in some serious need of repairs.  The rubber part of the wheels fell apart at last years Crop 4 Hope.  The suitcase still rolled, just not very smoothly.  Then this summer when we were in Boston, the handle on my suitcase pulled apart.  It was still usable, but with my upcoming trip to CE in Phoenix, I decided that I would either repair it or replace it. I called around to several luggage repair stores and had my suitcase in the trunk, when I found a whole set online at Bed Bath and Beyond.  I dragged hubby to the store and took a look and it was a great set.  Four pieces in total - a 28", a 25", and a 21" upright as well as a carry bag.  All the bags fit inside each other (which will come in handy for CE because I wanted to take an extra suitcase).  All this for a list price of only $99.00  Then I used one of their 20% off coupons.  Even though I receive two a month in the mail, of course when I need one

Missing Thursday Thirteen
2007-08-23 22:45:00
I worked on my Thursday Thirteen last night, and clicked send at around 3:30AM.  I then signed off and went to bed.  I thought I was on time (for once) but to my surprise not so ... apparently it didn't save properly so it didn't get posted.  It was a good one too -- with lots of links.  I won't tell you the theme, because I'll post it again next week, and next week I'll check my work and make sure the post got saved. Tonight I'm at work and FPL is working on the lines.  Yesterday, we lost part of the lines so while we had phones and computers, and lights, we had no air conditioning.  Now, I'm in an office without a window, and no real cross through of ventilation so it was crazy hot.  Sweating at work is not in my job description.  Tonight they worked on the lines, and I had to power down the building and the main computer servers so that FPL could reconnect the new temporary line.  Everything went well and there is a now a chill in

As Seen On the Bathroom Wall
2007-08-22 21:47:00
While at the local Pizza Joint, I found this on the bathroom stall door. I know ... you're thinking what is she doing with her camera in a public bathroom - well, as it happens my camera is in my purse at all times, so when I saw this on the stall door it captured my attention.  So much so that after I took the picture I then visited the second stall to see if it was a different ad, and when I got home, I went online to the website to see what it's all about.  It's from the ad council and is promoting resistering to vote.  I have to say that the ad really worked for me.  I'm already a registered voter, but the ad was off the wall enough for me to want to learn more.  The website links you to information about candidates and voting in your state, as well as information on how to register to vote.

It's A Beautiful Thing
2007-08-27 19:39:00
I won the lottery for the tour and warehouse sale at Bazzill while I'm at Creative Escape.  I'm on the last bus 11AM.  I rearranged my flights so I arrive at 9:24A and then I'll grab my luggage and make a mad dash to the hotel.  Either check in (if they'll let me) or leave my bags with the bellman, and hop on the tour.  So many people were unable to go because the tour was on Wednesday and even though they were picked for the tour their travel times didn't allow them to go.  I was lucky to be able to change my flight, and hopefully, I'll be able to arrive in time.  I'm giving it my best shot anyway.

Trying to Keep Up
2007-08-29 23:30:00
Just trying to keep up here .... I've got a sick hubby (going on two weeks now), but he's on the mend after forcing him to go to the doctor on Tuesday, It's the end of the month at work (always a crazy time), I'm working behind the scenes with Jackie in Tampa on the MSCrop4Hope, plus I'm shopping for and putting the final plans in place for my trip to Phoenix for Creative Escape. Let's see ... I fly out at 6AM (which means to the airport at 4:30A), take a 6 hour tour on Wednesday, a jeep tour on Thursday, meet up with the yahoogroup girls for some swaps, classes on Friday and Saturday, then fly home on Friday.  (I begged off of flying to one of our companies in CA because I didn't want to be toting all the stuff from CE).  I'm very excited and all I can say is It won't be long now!

Back to Reality
2007-09-10 09:23:00
I came home last night, and promptly flaked out on the sofa.  Woke up at 3AM and crawled into bed.  Woke this morning and I must have still been on west coast time because it was slow going.  I'll be on probably later this evening to post my comments on the rest of the classes, and pros and cons of the entire event, but for now ...  This is a group shot of our entire "little" group. In spite of everything involved with the level of classes, and hotel cost issues, a good time was had by all. The picture is of us after the dinner and closing ceremonies.  I think it was the one time that we were all together (although we were in classes together, we couldn't always sit together).

First Class Day
2007-09-07 22:59:00
We lucked out on our schedule.  We have 4 classes on Friday, and 3 classes on Saturday.  Our last class Saturday ends at 2:45PM, then we have the rest of the afternoon to ourselves until the dinner events at 7PM.  It's really (in my opinion) the best schedule because we will have completed all of the classes first, and have a good amount of time to relax and regroup before closing festivities. Following is my critique on the classes and projects that we did.  It is my opinion (to which I am entitled) on what was good and what was bad.  If you don't want to take the bad with the good, then just stop reading here.  Since we all view things differently, if you attended, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions.. 1st Class was taught by Lesli Spafford and was sponsored by Making Memories.  This was a card class, and we made 5 cards, plus we received the components for 3 tags.  The tags were something to work on if you were an over

Day Two - The rest of the Story
2007-09-06 22:11:00
After the Hummer tour, we headed to CE to get checked in.  We arrived pretty close to 1PM which is when it officially opened.  The first things we received were a CE tote, with a polka dot scarve, our class schedule (yipee ... we get to finish first since our free period is the last class on Saturday), our ID tag and wrist band as well as a beaded chain to hang the ID tag from.  We also received our check card so that we could do the various stations at the Technique Boutique.  Technique Boutique is a chance to try out some of the products that we will be using in the classes. We saw the new Silhouette from Quickuts, saw a demo on soldering from the Simply Swank Team, Received the components for an escape banner and practiced dry painting cardstock, masking and using a gold leafing pen.  There was several stamping stations to stamp out some flowers and butterflys which will be used in our classes, and a stitched sample also for class.  Besides the techniq

Day Two - Morning Events
2007-09-06 21:00:00
Today we were up bright and early at 5:30AM.  Had a little problem with the hot water in the shower, but after maintenance arrived, we figured out it was operator error - LOL.  At 6:15 we headed for breakfast so that we were well fueled for the Jeep Tour. We had THE BEST time on the jeep tour!  We left at 7:15AM and returned at about noon.  We did some off roading in the Hummers, saw lots of cactus, and some wild cows, visited a turquoise mine and actually found some turquoise pieces (we were hell bent to find a piece for each of us, so we kept at it.  It was hard to tell the turquoise from the shale, but I think we did OK.  After the turquoise mine, we headed for an indian ruin.  We climbed (yes, I even climbed it) to the top and enjoyed a view of the mountains and learned some of the history of the area.  I really wanted to not go, but Linda pushed me on.  It was pretty steep with loose rock and gravel, but I made it, and was glad that I

Travel Day to Creative Escape
2007-09-05 22:56:00
So the plan was that I was going to go straight to the airport after work which would have been around 2AM with my flight out at 6AM.  Because the airport was pretty much a ghost town, and the Delta counter didn't open until 4:40AM, my hubby was uncomfortable leaving me there, so home we went.  Last thing I remember is that it was 3:30AM and I was thinking 30 more minutes until I wake hubby to drive me back to the airport (I'm in Miami, and the airport is in Ft. Lauderdale).  Next thing I know hubby's telling me "Hey, it's 6AM I thought you were going to wake me at 4".  So I missed my early Delta flight, but had the original Southwest flight still booked, so we headed out and I caught that one.  But because the original flight didn't arrive until 11:40AM I missed the Bazzill Tour. Flight was uneventful, travel to the hotel was smooth but checking in was not so much.  The hotel added an additional $15.00 fee per person over two staying in th

I'm A Sunflower ....
2007-09-03 22:48:00
Yes ... yet another post about CE I'm in the Sunflower group, and so are my friends from Tampa - Linda, Mary, and Kip, plus Jules and Jill, and we've also managed to link up with Lisa from Ruban Rouge's group so we will be having lots of fun. I'm all packed now ... so I can take a breather.  I've got one suitcase inside another.  Then inside that one is my EK bag with all my required scrapping stuff, and a folded up duffle bag. I'm not sure just how much extra stuff I'll be bringing home, but better to be safe than sorry.  The plan is ... if I need the room, I'll throw my clothes in the duffle and take it as carry on for the return flight, and I'll still have the two suitcases for my projects and "stuff" I collect.  Worse comes to worse, I'll ship some of the items back home.  I weighed my suitcase all full and it is just under 50 lbs so I'm good to go.  I've spent tonight trying to find a good picture of my husband to take with m

Swap Pages
2007-09-02 21:21:00
I finished my coctail swap pages ... 28 in all.  I didn't realize it was that many but I'm excited just the same.  Can't wait to try all the fabulous drink recipes I'll be getting. I chose to do a classic .... the Vodka Gimlet.  The black & white paper has a raised almost suede feel, the stamp is by Hot Potatoes, and it was colored with shimmering watercolors.  The picture distorts the colors some, but they are all black, white, and silver (except the watercolors).  Because the drink is a classic, I choose to do the layout as a classic rather than shabby chic, or collage.  All in all, I like how it came out. I've packed all my scrap tools, and have pulled out all my clothes, just need to fit it all in the suitcase.

Anticipation ...
2007-09-01 20:57:00
It's almost here ... It's almost here. Considering that I booked my hotel room almost a year ago, and registered back in April was it?  I just can't wait to head west for Creative Escape.  I know ... if you read my blog and are not a scrapbooker, you're probably well over my rantings, but it is a big event, with several of my friends, that I've been planning for close to a year now .  So I'm excited (just a little bit). Here's some goodie bags I made for the ladies in my group that I'll be hanging with. Lots to do this weekend, and very glad I get an extra day home from work.  I have to finish packing my scrap stuff, finish my coctail swap, and pack my clothes.  I'll be keeping you updated as I progress.

Jealous
2007-10-08 22:03:00
that my Tampa friends took a Tim Holtz class - the project is fabulous.  You can see some pics at Linda's Blog and Kips blog too. I wish I was independently wealthy so that I could fly to Tampa for all the crops and classes. Ahhh ... some day - right now I'll just have to live vicariously though others.

CE Next Year
2007-10-01 22:20:00
It will be a lottery. You join the lottery, and then the next weekthey pick the people that will get to register. The price went uptoo, and they want you to pay for the whole thing 11 months inadvance - when you won't even know what teachers are teaching. It's agiant leap of faith, and a little too much like the Pied Piper for me. Although I had a fantastic time with our crew, I wasn't impressedwith the classes. I think our local talent is far superior. I did however, send them an email voicing some of my objections, sowe'll see how they answer. I'll keep you posted. We'll take you money for an unknown number of classes, taught byteachers we've yet to disclose, sponsored by vendors we'll ask you tothank a gazillion times throughout the event, and don't forget tostop by my store and spend even more. OK .... now you've got me started again.

MSCrop4Hope
2007-09-30 21:49:00
Spent the weekend in Tampa with my friend Jackie.  She was holding a Crop to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.  It was a scrapbooking crop, there were vendors there (Linda from Hilltop, a CM consultant, a CTMH consultant, and KitNKaboodles), she had silent auctions and raffles and door prizes too.  I was able to visit some with my sister who lives in the area so that was an added bonus. The event was a huge success, Jackie was written up in the paper several times and although she hasn't totaled everything up yet, I'm sure the amount raised was about $5000.00 which is twice what she did last year.  We are already talking about a larger venue for last year since that was the major issue this year. Had a great time with family and friends, and am looking forward to the next stop which will be Creepover in Sebring in October.  See you there.

Hilltop Jamaica Cruise
2007-09-25 22:11:00
Crap ... that's all I can say. Linda posted the cruise dates and it leaves March 29th for 5 days.  For me that's the end of the month, the end of the quarter, and the end of the fiscal year.  It will be so difficult to get the time off.  I really, really want to go, but I have to wait a little bit to see if I can swing it.  I'll have to start softening up my bosses so it won't be an issue. Y'all know me by now ... no events at the end of the month!  Do you hear me!

Happy Birthday
2007-09-17 21:41:00
I'm a September baby and I usually celebrate for a whole week but today is the real day. Hubby got me an extended battery for my laptop, so now I can go for 8 or 9 hours, as well as a car charger so I can charge up while at car shows.  He also took me out to Carrabbas which is my favorite - didn't tell them it was my birthday since hubby despises when they embarrass you by singing. Mom got me a Gift Card for Southwest Airlines - which I know I will use --- probably with Winter Retreat. Mom-In-Law gave me cash - always welcome. and the rest of the family, I got more gift cards (I am a gift card junkie - absolutely love them - love spending money without going into debt) got some for Joanns, and some for Michaels, and for the Avenue, and Target too.  I'm going to have fun shopping.

CE Classes Day 2
2007-09-12 21:35:00
Day 2 we faired much better.  I loved the Soldering class taught by Chris Randall, the Creative Imaginations purse had cute pages but it was annoying that the paper for the outside didn't fit correctly, and the final class was Heidi's which was a canvas class.  I liked the masking technique used but I have to say that outside of that it was simple.  The canvas clock we did with Dee on the Mexico Cruise was much more involved.  I did enjoy it for the technique and my mind is moving forward with what else I could do.  Was it worth it ?  Not in my opinion.  It was $600.00 plus $250 airfare, plus $175 for the room - baseline price $1025.00.  That's baseline - I had to pay for dinner Wednesday, and all meals on Thursday which is when the make n takes were.  The event also required two cocktails - yes ... two (that coming from an almost non-drinker).  Liked:  the jeep tour, Tracey Niehues Class, learning to solder, hanging with

The CK - HOF BrewHaHa
2007-10-21 11:37:00
So there's been this huge issue with one of the CK Hall of Fame choices this year.  It seems that the rules stated that only original photos could be used in the submission and one of the winners used a photo that was not her own.  She did the right thing and reported the error but CK had done nothing to address the issue.  Personally, I don't buy it.  What they are in essence saying is that they have no way to determine if the contest rules were followed other than the affidavits that contestents sign.  While contestents should adhere to the rules, it's not their job to self govern.  There needs to be a mechanism for confirming that the rules were adhered to.  If they can't come up with that mechanism, then don't take the pictures into account - just base the contest on the format, design, creativity and journaling. Additionally, the 2008 rules will say that heritage photos are excluded from the ruling and that heritage is considered older th

Big Bang Theory (CBS)
2007-10-19 19:52:00
If you're not watching this you are really missing a hysterical show. It's a 1/2 hour show on Mondays, and it is just too funny.  Both hubby and I love it.  It's about two nerdy guys (physicists) in their 20s who live across the hall from a beautiful (but dumb) girl.  One genius falls for the girl, and the other thinks he's chasing a dream he'll never catch so he tries to discourage his friend.  The two guys that play Sheldon and Leonard really work well together It was just announced that the series was picked up for a full 22 episode season and I'm happy about that.  I don't usually watch comedys on TV, but this one I love. If you have the time, take a chance and watch it - you won't regret it.

Tim Holtz Announced as Teacher at CE 2008
2007-10-17 20:22:00
Yeah well ... although I love Tim Holtz and think he is a fantastic teacher (I've taken classes with him both at CKU and local stamp stores), I was so put off by the 2007 CE event that it's not enough to convince me to go.  I think I'd have more fun if I went on one of his cruises - you'd have fun at the ports as well as classes with Tim.

Women's Murder Club
2007-10-16 19:40:00
I was disappointed.  The way they wrote for the characters was that they were sappy and shallow.  In the book the women have character - they take care of each other, know each other's lives, and help each other through the good times and bad -- strong, smart, knowledgeable in their field yet still caring. In the first episode, they were women who were more interested in dating and their relationships then being professional. Alright ... truth be told, I almost had to turn it off but I toughed it out til the end.  I've got TiVo set to record the next episode, but if the character development doesn't get any better, then I'll be deleting it from my seasons pass list and sticking to the books.

Creepover Costumes
2007-10-15 00:12:00
I wanted to show a bit more from Creepover.  I didn't dress up, but many did. Here's Linda in all her finery, and then a group shot of everyone who did get dressed up.  Linda's costume inflated and sometimes it looked like she was being consumed by it.  Michele's flamingo costume also inflated.  It was just too funny to see.  One of those you had to be there to appreciate it events.

Creepover Fun
2007-10-14 21:01:00
Creepover is fun! First, I didn't have to drive to the diner because the restaurant next door is fabulous and has a greek owner and chef, so the greek food on the menu is probably great too.  After breakfast, we did some shopping and checked out the local scrapbooking store (overpriced, but she had what I wanted), the brand new Michaels (wasn't opened when we were up here in August), Lowes (Amanda needed hinges) and CVS (I needed dry erase markers).  After all the traveling we settled down and started working again. There was a pumpkin decorating contest during the weekend.  We were given naked paper mache pumpkins that we could decorate any way we chose, and the prize for the best was going to be FREE attendance to Winter Retreat. I ended up making a skeleton (complete with glitter)out of my pumpkin and Amanda did an entire scene ... I loved the spiders.  Mine will end up on my desk at work.  We tried very hard, but we did not win the competition. Le
