New restaurants for Manchester 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Two new restaurants
are heading to Manchester, on the back of a spate of openings in 2006. Pesto, Linen, Akbars and Numero showed us that short names are 'in'.The first new eaterie is the Gourmet Burger Restaurant, which is opening up in Spinningfields, off Deansgate. This London-only chain of up market burger bar is expanding outside of the capital, and they're bringing their meat orientated snacks to Manchester. Well worth a visit as their London branches are a cut above.Mai Bai has opened up on Princess Street, and this is another Japanese restaurant for Manchester. The nearby Sapporo Teppanyaki, and the Samsi on Whitworth Street West offer similar foods.Whathappenedlastnight guide to Manchester

Manchester goes Ape for the Valve 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Heard of the Valve
sound system? If you're not a dnb freak then these words might not mean anything to you - the name itself refers to the speaker system owned by Lemon D and Dillinja. They've blown a load of cash on what is undoubtedly the most powerful system in DNB - 52 bassbins and six stacks of speakers that measure 10ft by 18ft each! Our friend, who is the worlds best (and least commercially interested) dnb producer, waxes lyrical about the Valve. It's the biggest, it's the best, it'll blow your fucking ears out...is pretty much what he says. The generally quiet month of January sees Ape join forces with local boys Metropolis for a gig at the Apollo. Lemon D and Dillinja are playing, they're bringing the Valve down. Friction, The Freestylers, C2C, Meat Katie, Broke N English and Dynamite MC are there as well, with more local geezers in the form of Dom (Blood n Fire SS), Rich Reason, Prophecy/Mark OD and Tonn Piper. The Apollo is going to be rocking on the 26th January - whet

Next Stop: A Nightclub 1970-01-01 00:59:59 We do hark on about Sankeys, but then they do supply us news, titbits and photographs of busses. (If you're a promoter and you want exposure for your club or bar email us or join up for a promoter account)The Soapless wonders have bought themselves a bus, and spent a week painting it. The plan is to offer a ride from Fallowfield and Oxford Road straight to the club. The bus looks nice!***If you're wondering why we constantly deface images with bizarre stickmen, it's because we enjoy it, and we're selfish like that.Whathappenedlastnight guide to Manchester
Return of the XXXX 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Bugged Out has switched from a Friday night at One Central Street to a monthly gig back at Sankeys (Where it all began yo!). The regular Saturday night at OCS (Fly) is also 'doing one', so that leaves the whole weekend free! Well we know who's taking over the Saturday nights, and it's one of our all time favourite clubs. We can't say quite yet who it's going to be but here's a few hints...1) The event has run almost non-stop in Manchester for the last ten years.2) It begins with an F. 3) They have a reputation for attracting foxy ladies.4) If you think 3) is sexist our sole female blogger comments that there were usually "lots of pretty men". Can men be pretty? Who knows. Were they wearing make-up? Maybe. Do we wear make-up? definately not. Do we need more female bloggers? Funkademia Returns! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 We can exclusively reveal that the new Saturday night at One Central Street is going to be Funkademia! The club was formerly at Zumeba on Oxford Road, but the recent take over by Odder has left the venue without a traditional clubspace and Funkademia without a home. Not for long though, as they're making the move to the lovely One Central Street...and we think they've found the perfect place. You can't go wrong with Funkademia's mix of soul and funk, as the ladies above will no doubt tell you. This type of music always goes down well on a Thursday, so let's see if it'll pull in the punters on a Saturday....In their own words:Funkademia is Manchester's most successful and longest running soul-funktion. More news to come!Whathappenedlastnight guide to Manchester Read more:Returns

Serviced Apartments in Manchester? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 For most of us finding a place to stay in Manchester isn't a problem. We live here! For the rest, it can be a nightmare. There are hundreds of hotels, some of them (pardon my french) are crap. Others are out of this world. If you're looking for an alternative to hotels, then Serviced Apartments
could be a good option. Put simply, you hire out an apartment for an evening (or more) and you get a swish city centre pad for you and up to 8 friends. The advantage? It often works out much cheaper if there's more than two of you, plus you get a kitchen, proper bathroom and sometimes the advantage of on-site leisure facilities/balconies/playstation/ipod depending on the apartment. You also get to invite anyone you fancy back, rather than having to fear the wrath of the hotel porter, although it should be mentioned that there are conditions attached to the hire of a serviced apartment and you have to keep the place reasonably clean (and not smash up televisions). There are over 40 apartments on

Tangled on the move. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Last year was a 'annus changus' for Tangled
, as the club made the move from it's spiritual home of The Phoenix in the University Precinct. The event has been running for over 13 years and proudly claims to be the "longest running breaks night in the country" and they even picked up a 'club of the year' gong from the MEN and the now defunct City Life. But in the words of me: "nothing can stay the same", and after a brief stint at The Zoo (Grosvenor Street) then settled into a monthly slot at Club Academy. Thankfully they've found their feet at their new venue and have announced another date each month, at The Music Box. They'll be taking over the second Saturday of each month, and it all kicks off with DJ Hyper and Rogue Element on Saturday 10th February. Two weeks later and they're going head to hear with TurnmillsTangled Breaks SpecialSaturday 10th February:The Music BoxDJ Hyper, Rogue Element, Steve ThorpeRoom 2: Rascal, James Medina, SnoopyTangled vs TurnmillsSaturday 24th Fe
The Keeley Hazell Video - NSFW and NSFF 1970-01-01 00:59:59 (not suitable for work and definitely not suitable for feminists)The Keeley
Hazell sex tape has been doing the rounds on the internet. If you're a red blooded male then no doubt you want to see it. If you're female, don't fret. It's very instructional. Yes, she's nude. Yes, she's doing bizarre things to her boyfriend (who is videoing the whole thing). And yes, she's apparently gutted about the video being made available on the internet, and the MASSIVE publicity surrounding it. Before we accidentally found the sex tape (we were on google searching for 'Keeley Hazell Sex Tape' which bizarrely led us to the Keeley Hazell Sex Tape) we also found ourselves on the Sunday Sport website, which has headlines such as: "I ate my sister" and "Sven stalked by 50 stone woman". Awesome.Enough already, you're obviously only reading this because you want nudity. To The Sex TapeOnly click the link above if you're over 18, and you don't mind looking at a wang for the first two minutes (it get
One Central Getting A Makeover? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Are there any venues not getting the decorators in?The press release for the eagerly awaited relaunch of Funkademia gives a hint that One Central
Street is going to be given a lick of paint."In preparation for the arrival of the funk the venue is benefiting from a sharp makeover to ensure it remains on of the coolest venues in the city". Owner Ross McKenzie had this to say:"We couldn't resist the chance to bring in one of Manchesters longest running & most loved clubnights"Ross has been running OCS since it's inception, and the venue is still managed by Leroy Richardson who cut his teeth running things at the Hacienda and Dry Bar. It seems like a lifetime ago that I played a part in launching this bar (waaaay back when I launched ManchesterAD) and it's nice to see it's still going strong, and with the original team. Chorlton 1970-01-01 00:59:59 An outsider would think that we hated Chorlton, what with all the attention that we give Didsbury (E/W), Fallowfield, The City Centre, SQ, NQ, The Theatre District, The Gay Village, The Straight Village, The Bi Village (Victoria Park) and of course the family friendly 'Crack Head Quarter' (the Spar on Oxford Road). Well, to those that think we hate (or dislike) Chorlton then nothing could be further from the truth, except for the phrase "Jade isn't racial". So we hit M21 on Friday and reviewed the hot spots for hot pots, and pot heads. Upload Photos, Win Stuff 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Yeah I know it's a pain in the arse uploading photos to Whathappenedlastnight. Las Manchester hits the Jackpot 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Against all odds Manchester has won a Super Casino. According to the Bookies we were last in the race, which just shows how unpredictable gambling can me. We came from behind to beat Blackpool, London, Glasgow, Newcastle, Cardiff and Sheffield, but in actual fact (and according to one of the Panel who made the decision) we're actually the worst! The Super Casino was awarded to the city that needed it the most - and needed the investment and income that will come with it.So we're the best of the worst. That's no bad thing. So our fair city has gained a giant casino complex - but what will it mean for the average Mancunian? Well, the new complex isn't just about gambling. On the same site will be leisure facilities, restaurants and bars, as well as the 2,700 slot machines with unlimited jackpots. So we'll end up with a destination complex that the average Manc will visit once or twice, but hopefully not all the time. If you find yourself addicted to gamling then you can be thankful Read more:Jackpot
Decline, Death, Apartments 1970-01-01 00:59:59 My memories of A-level Business Studies have faded, but one thing I do recall is the 'Product Lifecycle' - Introduction, Growth, Maturity, Decline
, Death.The Lifecycle for a Manchester bar/club goes something like this:IntroductionGrowthMaturityDecline DeathApartments
Rebranding or a chance of ownership can be used to extend the life of a bar, but death is inevitable - so (it seems) is being turned into apartments. So with that in mind, we bring news that the former Mash & Air building is being converted in to flats. That name might not ring any bells, as the bar shut down many years ago, but it's place in Manchester's hall of fame was secured long before they closed their doors. Mash & Air kick started the 'exclusive bar' scene in Manchester, and was one of our earliest haunts in the City. It was the latter day equivalent of the Sugar Lounge/Circle Club, even preceededing the Living Room.Shenton Homes are taking it overand they plan on turning it in to 28 apartments. The location,

Magic Bar Disappears 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Before it even opened I predicted the demise of the Pure Magic
Bar. The place looked great, but no one in Manchester was bothered about magic and despite their best efforts it's had to close. I guess they couldn't conjure up enough customers(!)As one door closes another opens, and launching this week is The Sessions bar will open to the general public, which ties in much more closely with the nightclub downstairs. The Weekend In Review 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Saturday saw the relaunch of >Funkademia at One Central Street - and Mick Hucknall returned to have a look. One Central was rammed by midnight, and they had a great atmosphere going. The DJs were hammering out all the old classics, and it turned into a very good night. The venue has benefited from the recent refurb and the DJ booth is a much better place. Service, as usual, was top notch. Caged Asylum, on the other side of town, was a bit different. The combination of lap dancing and metal music may not seem a good one, but the club was busy! Cheap drinks, but the music was a bit off - "Too much industrial and not enough metal", said a friend. The dancefloor filled, then unfilled, then filled again. It's the first night of their new weekly residency, so we'll give them the benefit of the doubt.Venus was on fire, again! It was completely rammed with party people, and they lifted the roof off. The club looks so much better after the refurb!Good to see Manchester back on form, despite th Read more:Weekend
