I hate spending money
2007-08-23 11:30:17
It’s true. I hate spending money… unless it’s not mine. If someone else is spending money on me, I love it! Since I’ve been broke lately, I haven’t been able to get the things I need. I finally got some money together and went out to get some stuff that I sorely needed: foundation, eyeliner, face powder, soap, toilet paper, face cleaner, bread, and milk… Almost $100. It’s just unreal that $100 can be dropped in a half an hour shopping spree of essentials. Still, I NEEDED this stuff. Yes. I DO need makeup, as a matter of fact. Plus, I tell myself that I won’t need to buy this stuff all of the time. Most of this stuff, the make up and face cleaner, I only have to buy every few months. It’s not so bad. though. I am a little eased by the fact that I found out today that I can still fit an extra small shirt. Now, to do something with these monster hips of mine… And before anyone gets all mad about ’size issue

Watershed Drug Rehab
2007-08-23 11:06:32
I don’t think that it’s a secret to anyone who knows me well that my father was a raging drunk and drug addict. My entire childhood was colored, was shadowed, because of that. Still, my memories are trapped within the box defined by the negative influence that he had on me. How that is so, I won’t go into. I don’t really feel like discussing my menial mental issues here. Suffice to say, my father’s addictions have defined and shaped me. Living with someone who does drugs and drinks excessively is like living in a world where nothing is stable, where you can’t be sure of what every new minute will bring. One second you are living with a catatonic zombie, the next a raging monster who wants to hurt you. But, it wasn’t always so. When I was in elementary school, I remember my father going into rehab. He was gone for what felt like forever. At the time, it was a wonderful reprieve because I was so used to his abusive state. When he return

Cue Motivation
2007-08-28 11:09:50
I need to get some motivation so that I can do the first of my 402 article readings and summaries. Summaries? More like summaries, critique, and author analysis. It would be a far easier task if all I had to do was list main points. Fortunately, there’s more work to it than that. I would feel the class rather pointless and arduous if not. Coffee. Then shower. Once refreshed and awake, I can start working. I had a nightmare that Alfee left me and he wouldn’t take me back. Something that would never happen in real life, I know, because he worships the ground that I walk on (it’s not arrogance to admit the truth!), but it still bothered me enough that I didn’t get very good sleep. Hopefully, my adviser will email me back soon so that I can get my student teaching application all filled out and submitted before September 15th. If I don’t get a reply by Thursday, I am going to the office on Friday to see when his hours are so that I can just drop in. Or

First days…
2007-08-27 20:02:03
First days are always overwhelming because you get assaulted with lists of assignments, expectations, and rules. Seriously, by 1pm, my head was pounding and I felt like I was ready to just keel over and die. I don’t think that I got enough sleep to begin with, either, never mind that I am more used to going to sleep at 6am instead of waking up then. I already hate my 402W class. Ten books in addition to one individual book, in addition to about 20 summaries, three analysis, and a research paper. The reading for that class is insane. I am willing to accept the writing part because it’s a W class, but everything seems so messy and disorganized that I just don’t think I know what he wants from us when. My professor has everything broken down into confusing categories like, “Individual Reading” and “Common Reading” and you have to read x number of this and y number of that and do this paper on this and this analysis on that. I was like&hell

I got my date!
2007-08-26 20:23:49
Well, half date. We did spend a good part of the day shopping for clothes for Alfee. You see, he got a new job, which he starts this Monday. But, to tell any story, you have to start from the beginning. Friday night, when it was time for him to get off of work and come and get me, he arrived as usual. Except, instead of wearing a tshirt and his work pants like he normally has on, he had on a tshirt and camouflage pants. No pants that I had ever seen before. Apparently, his friend Jay called him with a new job offer. So, Alfee finished out his day, cleaned out his locker (returned his work pants and put on the one pair he put there the day he started– the camouflage pants), and left his notice that he was quitting. The new job is at some sort of graphic design place. His attire is going to have to be suitable for business, which means slacks, button shirts, and ties. That stuff was what he mainly spent Saturday getting. But, we did spare about two hours for a date–

Always things to consider
2007-08-31 19:16:54
I went to The Dump today after class to get a new King Koil mattress for my mother. I chose today because The Dump was having a big sale for Labor Day. I was able to get the mattress for a little over $124. Since I came into a little bit of money, I wanted to do this for my mother because I could tell that it bothers her not to have a mattress. It’s hard for her to get to do things for herself. She needs all the help that she can get. Though, she has come into a bit of misfortune. Even if she does see it as much as being bad as good. My grandparents found a really good deal on a 1,300ft condo in St. George, Utah. They want to buy it for her so that she can move back down there. To be honest, my grandfather is getting sicker and sicker. He wants her there for the time he has left and my grandmother wants her there so that she won’t be alone. So, my mother was stuck between a rock and a hard place. She doesn’t want to leave my sister and Ethan. My mother doesn

My day in review
2007-08-30 11:20:26
I had to get up super early yesterday– 6am. I admit it, though, that I did press the sleep button and get an extra nine minutes. At 6:11, I pulled myself most unwillingly out of bed and went in for a shower that did nothing at all to refresh and awaken me. I felt like I was in a daze all morning. I should have made myself coffee, but I didn’t. I also refused to give Starbucks $4.00 of my money for a small cup of coffee no matter how delicious and invigorating it may be. Instead, I went to the library to get a book, printed something out, made sure my laptop was registered in the ODU Wireless Network, then went to my first class. Yes. The dreaded 402W. All we did was sit around and discuss the articles that we had to read and wrote upwards of 1,500 words about. Yes, a pretty relaxed atmosphere considering the daunting nature of what lies within that class. Its seedy underbelly. I am trying to get as much done as soon as possible so that I don’t drown in it.

Sometimes…
2007-08-29 21:52:26
Sometimes I feel lonely and I can’t stop myself from feeling miserable no matter how many times I tell myself that it’s all in my head. In bed last night, I wondered if I had ever known Collin. It has been so long since I’ve spoken to him and had him in my life that it feels as if the life where I knew him wasn’t mine, or wasn’t real. Stupid.

Good times a rollin’

I went to a site, this one to be exact, with the intent of leaving a constructive or otherwise enthusiastic and optimistic comment. However, at 3am (or nearing that time), I was none too pleased when out of my very powerful, bass driven speakers, some horrible music pumps out. I mad scramble to turn the sound down because I have people around me asleep. A little consideration for the little people, please. Because I am a bitch and no one who knows me can deny that I am, I leave a comment about what a horrible experience that was. I figure maybe the webmaster will take into account how unfriendly her forced music is to a visitor and will rethink having it autostart and maybe start by the press of a button if the visitor wishes to hear whatever crappy music kids are listening to today. Obviously not. I get this in my email box today from Aja@junkyardflux.com: Sorry human, but that’s not my problem. It’s my website, I do what I want with it. Don’t like it… d

Hosting a party is more simple than you think. There are a good number of fundraising ideas offered on the site to help you along. You can have a dinner party, associate your Purple Party with a birthday where you ask for donations instead of gifts, hold a poker night where proceed will be donated, or have a movie night at home and charge ‘admission’ under the agreement that all of the funds raised will go to charity. During your event, share information about Alzheimer’s disease to raise awareness of the facts surrounding Alzheimer’s disease. But remember, hold a “socially responsible” Purple Party. You can even register your Purple Party online for a number of benefits. By registering on actionalz.org, you ca

Review: In Denial: Historians, Communism and Espionage
2007-09-19 14:00:27
In Denial : Historians, Communism and Espionage, John Earl Haynes & Harvey Klehr Publisher: Encounter Books; 2005 Genre: Historical Pages: 299 Rating: 4 stars There are two types of historians: traditional and revisionist. According to Haynes and Klehr, revisionist historians have dominated the area of Cold War history for too long. Among the crimes of the Cold War historians are denial, justification, and outright lies. After the opening of the Soviet Archives, it was released that the American Communist Party had more influence from Moscow than originally thought. Espionage was more rampant than people thought… perhaps, just maybe, McCarthy wasn’t on a wild witch hunt. Revisionist historians have since continued to deny horrors and influence, have mitigated events, and manipulate evidence to justify Stalin and espionage. However, I think that Harvey and Klehr would have had a more sound argument had they not come off sounding unprofessional in their direct usage of pe

Do It Yourself
2007-09-16 17:17:13
A few years ago, when I moved into my Aunt’s house, my sister and I decided that my new room needed a paint job. The walls were yellow because the previous tenant had been a heavy smoker. Not only that, but just one of the walls had an awful wallpaper on it. We didn’t know what we were doing. We tried to paint over the wallpaper, we didn’t prep the walls, and we ended up covered in paint with tired arms. It was definitely one of the more bad ideas that my sister ever had. I was miserable the whole time. If we had only known the proper way to prep and paint, as well as the work involved, we might not have been so gung-ho about it. A visit to DoItYourself .com would have been pretty useful. DoItYourself.com contains thousands of guides to help you do such things as weatherize your home. In addition to the articles, there are message boards full of people who are always willing to help with questions and issues. There is also a DVD to purchase that is full of info

Bath Faucets
2007-09-14 01:38:18
I’m so jealous of people who can afford to have nice bathrooms. Deep down inside, I am a girly chick. I want to sink down in a large tub adorned with an intricate and elaborate shiny bath faucet. A lot of people find it hard when they go out shopping for new bathroom accessories. There are so many different styles and brands that it can feel almost impossible to pick out just ONE thing you like. More than that, some people don’t even know where to start. Faucet.com has a handy Bathroom Faucet Buying Guide that gives great tips and helpful info for shopping and installing. In addition, you can also buy from them! They sell everything from faucets, sinks, and hardware. See? No need to even go out shopping when you can just sit at home and get everything you need.

Lawson Publisher: Bedford/St. Martin’s; 2003 Genre: Historical Pages: 200 Rating: 4 stars As part of the Bedford Series, this document contains both primary source documents and biographical/historical information. It would be a great resource for students who would have both the primary sources for first hand historical experience and biographical, factual information to place the documents within the correct historical framework. Context is often missing when it comes to primary sources and students don’t get as much out of them as they should because they don’t truly understand the significance lacking appropriate context. Great for students. Hey, great for anyone who has an interest in Civil Rights. This specific book is geared towards the Civil Rights of the 1940s, during the Truman Administration, which cast

I guess I am not digging a grave after all…
2007-09-25 23:02:47
I always feel like my life is about an inch from sinking, that I am just barely keeping my head up so that I don’t drown. I know, I know, I should have more confidence. Yet, I don’t and I never have. I say and do arrogant things but it’s really to compensate for the self-loathing that defines me internally. This school year will be the end of me. It’s definitely a test of endurance, of motivation, and of my ability to actually commit myself to doing well. I can admit that my University stint has been a fair cakewalk so far. I have managed to make make all of my lackluster attempts praiseworthy and I don’t know how. I’ve made great effort here and there, but it has largely been a game of things coming naturally for me. Not this semester, though. Fortunately, all of my efforts are paying off. Sure, I will soon have an ulcer eating up my stomach from the inside out, but at least I will have gained a sense of satisfaction for the fruits of my la

Wedding Dresses
2007-09-25 19:26:48
I was looking at wedding dresses and I came across this one: I’ve never been a fan of wedding dresses that are white. While they are elegant and clean, I would rather get married in a dress that has color to it. This dress comes in white, as well as ivory (as shown), and gold. The ivory is absolutely beautiful; it is close enough to white to not stray too far from what a wedding dress is supposed to be while having enough color to seem unique. The top is beaded in a love design. The design reminds me of a Rococo style wall. Also, I would imagine the way it wraps would make my chest look bigger, which I am in definite need of! The design is also original because of the way the skirt is bunched and flows. Straight wedding gowns with long trains are traditional, yes, but not everyone wants something that conforms to the traditional. Again, this dress is close enough that it is recognizable for its purpose while being unique and lovely.

Date night

On Saturday night, Alfee and I went to go see Halloween. It seemed the best of the options besides Superbad, which I REALLY wanted to see but Alfee didn’t want to despite that almost every review of it says that it’s absolutely hilarious. I love horror movies, though, and I thought it would be worth seeing… But before… At first, we walked around the mall and had some chicken teriyaki with fried rice. I mean, I know it’s mall food but I frickin’ love that stuff. After we ate lunch, we went to a few stores to look at stuff. Once we got to Barnes and Noble, I got some Cafe Mocha from Starbucks and grabbed a few horror movie magazines: Fangoria and Rue Morgue. I keep reminding myself to order subscriptions of those online, but I always forget and never get around to it. Rue Morgue had a really excellent article on Death Photography complete with pictures. It was so sweet of Alfee to buy me the coffee and then to sit there reading magazines wit
