My American Heart 2007-07-23 23:31:16
Age doesn’t necessarily denote musical prowess, but for My AmericanHeart
, a band who wrote their debut when most of the members were merely 16, making great music has only been augmented by three years of touring, practice and acquired knowledge. The San Diego fivesome’s dynamic, innovative second record reverberates with a sense of newfound wisdom and the sort of skill that comes only from that hard-earned experience, a reminder of how shockingly young the makers of the record actually are. The strikingly varied disc, metaphorically entitled Hiding Inside the Horrible Weather to denote the beauty that inherently lies in all things, soars from hooky, driving rock (“The Shake (Awful Feeling)” and “Boys! Grab Your Guns”) to introspective acoustic ballad (“Tired and Uninspired”) to expansive searches that reveal a whole new side of My American Heart (“Dangerous” and “Fantasy”). Soliman’s lyrics are noticeably more refined, spinning with clever turns of phrase a

(One) musician, upon seeing the innumerable loops and samples strewn about the studio, inadvertently inspired the band’s name when he said, ‘This looks like garbage.’ Replied Vig, ‘Exactly. And we’re going to turn this garbage into a song.’

SONATA ARCTICA: New guitar player announced! 2007-08-10 20:52:01
Guitarist Jani Liimatainen left the band and is substituted by Elias Viljanen. Therefore Sonata Arctica wants the following to be known:
During fall of '06 and spring of '07, Jani's personal matters and actions drove us to a situation where we had no option but to ask Jani to leave the band. Jani was notified of this in May, and the separation was amicable. We wanted to give Jani the chance to get his life together before making this public, which is why we didn't make this announcement earlier. We wish Jani well on his chosen path.

Velvet Revolver: Libertad 2007-10-02 10:09:51
Three years after their successful debut album 'Contraband', Velver Revolver
are back with a follow-up titled as Libertad
. This time around the band has different production team consisting of Brendan O'Brien (mixing) and Bob Ludwig (mastering). Hence this record sounds better than their debut, but unfortunately some of the characteristics of the debut are missing... sure the music still is founded on vigorous riffs, pounding drums, and expressive choruses but some of the inventiveness and unexpectedness of the debut is missing. On the other hand, the material on Libertad is more consistent, and the album sounds rather solid. Continue reading "Velvet
