Practice Beastiality, God Wants You To! 2007-10-21 13:54:08 Well, it’s either that or he was just plain stupid. Remember the story of creation? Of course you do! I bet you don’t quite remember this part though. Please open your Bibles to Genesis, Chapter 2 and starting with the 18th verse:
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Knowledge, Get Some 2007-10-19 20:50:54 It amazes me how little most (I said MOST, Aaron, not all) Christians know about the history of their belief system. Few know how tumultuous and blood-thirsty it was (and is, in some cases) and how it came to be the “powerhouse” that it is today. The rest of this post is in response to a comment received on this post.
First of all, The Gospel of Judas is not part of the Bible and should not be considered as fact.
You are absolutely correct. However, you may want to ask yourself why they are not part of the Bible. A brief look into the history of the “Holy” scripture reveals the truth of the matter. It was Constantine, a pagan Roman ruler (perhaps you have heard of him), who offered money to church leaders of the time to come up with a canon that they could agree on. Thus, the Council of Nicaea took place in 325 and they began to choose (or “vote”) the texts that were to be admitted into the canon. The canon was not considered “closed” unt Read more:Knowledge

Submission From a Christian Viewer 2007-10-18 21:45:28 The following is an unedited submission from a Christian
viewer. I encourage your comments as she will be looking to respond to them. I will have my own response tomorrow, as it is getting late.
Mere Christianity and Atheism and Agnosticism
I duly note all the rage that goes hand in hand with the concept of a belief system which exists in two dimensions, under the same name. Christianity as a religion and Christianity in purer individualistic forms of love, kindness, empathy, generosity, compassion.
It is absolutely a reality that man-unkind will continue to disappoint. No doubt. Mankind is a dysfunctional family unit. I am. You are.
Are you happy? NO? Neither am I. Sometimes, yes.
I was recently booted out of yet another church with accompanying fanfare. But why blame god? Some jack-asses tote the load, some sit and will not move.
Agnostics seem angry that God does not image the framework which parallels Jack and the beanstalk. There are no three beans, no three wishes. Believe me, th Read more:Submission

Certified Christian 2007-10-26 23:25:19 So, I had a pretty good chuckle tonight as I fired up the computer to see what was new on the site. Obviously, this site is partially funded through advertisement. One of the ads that I happened to see tonight on the site was for Together Christian
, a Christian web dating service. I included a shot of the ad in this post so that you have a reference point about what I found quite humorous. (You can click it to enlarge, it is just a JPG, not an ad.)
There were a handful of things that I found to be funny. (Could just be me, I know.) It is nice to know that sex still sells in the religious world. I mean, they could have used a model that looked more like Molly Shannon playing the part of “Superstar.” They opted to go with the typical blonde haired, blue-eyed model you see here with her hair pulled up as she gives you that quazi “come-hither” look.
The other thing that got me rolling was the little stamp, “Certified

How do Theists justify their beliefs? 2007-10-26 09:29:24 Is it ever possible to prove that religious are not hallucinations or delusions? Thus, if it cannot be proven, said religious experiences mean nothing, no matter how many one has.
The German philosopher Immanuel Kant has demolished the notion that it is possible to prove things about the nature of reality, including claims about the existence of supernatural entities, based purely on logical arguments; only perception can give us knowledge about the world.
As there is no empirical evidence for the existence of God, it is impossible to prove the existence of God. It is something that is based on blind faith or claimed religious experiences, and as far as I know, most theists justify their belief on their emotional experiences.

Arguing God: Counter-Proselytization 2007-10-26 00:29:18 There is only one type of opposition the atheists can send against the proselytizer.
The Arrogant, Spiteful, Angry, Depressed Blasphemer
God is not subject to challenge by anyone or anything, let alone a morally bankrupt, satan-worshipping Atheist.
All good Christians can stop reading now.
(Are they gone? Good. Finally the kids are in bed and us adults can talk for awhile)
There are numerous methods used to challenge theistic belief. The following are some of my favorite counter-proselytizers.
The Logician
Simple, and direct, the Logician is all substance and no style. He can counter every position in the proselytizer’s arsenal, but wins few points for creativity or charisma. The Rational Response Squad decimated Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort a few months back with a Logician counter to Ray’s argument for God’s existence. Every technical point went to Brian Sapient and his associate, Kelly, but every talking point and sound bite went to Cameron and Comfort. The Logi Read more:Counter
Beyond Atheism 2007-10-25 21:27:57 I know that I can’t prove a negative, and atheists in general feel caught by a “democratic” need to acknowledge that since you can’t fully disprove the chance, however small, that there might be some god somewhere, you must acknowledge that the delusional claims about such entities may at least in principle have some merit.
I do not acknowledge that merit, except as a mental exercise that one can do for fun if one feels so inclined, however, because in spite of my disbelief in metaphysical beings, I’m not an atheist.
The non-belief of atheism is easy, and you can get a long way with that. I know that all things in this vast universe are ultimately connected, but as little as I consider how it affects the red spot on Jupiter that I mow my lawn, consistently with the aforementioned atheists I don’t consider the remote chance of something even less observable influencing my thoughts either.
It is easy to not believe, yet atheists seem stuck at searching Read more:Atheism
“Stop treating me like a baby” demands Jesus 2007-10-24 19:59:38 Son of God Jesus
Christ has lashed out at his followers for constantly “treating [Him] like a baby” and demands that all references to “the Little Lord Jesus” by Christians stop immediately.
“What’s wrong with you people,” He asked in a press statement released this week. “I’m, like, over 2000 years old already. I’m all grown up here, and you still treat me like a kid. Well, I’m NOT a kid, so you can stop it, right now.”
Jesus was especially critical of Christians who use the “little baby Jesus” motif for emotional effect.
“I’m the all-powerful Son of God who sits at the right hand of the Father - do I look like some softy sentimental baby in a manger to you?
“You people better start showing me some respect. Remember, I’m the guy who drove the thieves from the temple with a great and powerful wrath. Remember that story? That was Me. I did it before and I can do it again. So you p
52 year old scientific paper retracted after creationist misrepresentation 2007-10-29 05:24:01 A scientific paper
published in 1955 has been retracted by its author, Dr. Homer Jacobson, when he discovered creationist
s were citing his work as “proof that life could not have emerged on earth without divine intervention”.
The paper, “Information, Reproduction and the Origin of Life” (American Scientist, Sigma Xi, 1955), focused on the properties of chemicals found on Earth during the cooling-down period known as Hadean Time. It contained assertions that several conditions would need to occur simultaneously in order for these organic molecules to form, described in the paper as “incredibly unlikely”.
After googling his name for reasons of “vanity”, Dr. Jacobson came across some of his work on polymers. When creationist websites referencing his 1955 paper started appearing, he described the search results as “hideous”.
This prompted Dr. Jacobson to look over his work, and in doing so he identified a few errors - not the leas
Smith’s Wager, A Counter to Pascal 2007-10-28 19:43:48 The following is an excerpt from a speech given by George Smith
before the Society of Separationists in 1976. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. The full speech will be placed in the Toolbox section tomorrow.
Blaise Pascal
was the famous French mathematician, philosopher, and theologian. He came up with this argument which consequently became quite famous, which went something as follows. Reason can’t prove or disprove the existence of God. Weigh the odds. If the atheist is correct, we’re going to die, nothing will happen, and nothing is lost. But if the Christian is correct, the nonbelievers are going to believe in Hell for eternity. So it seems like the practical odds would lie with Christianity. We would wager on Christianity because the practical odds are so important. If you wager on Christianity and there is no god, you don’t lose anything.
The first obvious problem with this is it completely shoves aside the whole issue of intellectual integrity, as i Read more:Counter

The Missing Link Between Religion and Science 2007-10-27 20:47:42 There is growing interest in a compound found in the human brain called DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) due to the fact that it could be the missing link between Science
and Religion
.
DMT is naturally produced by an enzyme in the human body as well as those of other mammals. It is also found in certain plants grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions. What makes DMT interesting is that DMT is a hallucigenic. It is the key ingredient in the drink ayahuasca, which is used by shamans and religious leaders in South America and Africa. It even used to be used in the Middle East. It is used as part of their religious ceremonies and it is believed that by drinking it, the eye of our soul is opened. People describe scenarios where for up to 8 hours they experience hallucinations where they become part of the natural world or where they meet strange beings ranging from gods, devils to even aliens. Some have speculated that the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil that Adam and Eve were warned agai Read more:Missing

Quotes Regarding the Bible 2007-11-04 11:25:20 “The real oppressor, enslaver, and corrupter of the people is the Bible.” Some Mistakes of Moses, Ingersoll’s Works, Vol. 2, p. 43
“Theology is not what we know about God, but what we do not know about Nature. In order to increase our respect for the Bible, it became necessary for the priests to exalt and extol that book, and at the same time to decry and belittle the reasoning powers of man. The whole power of the pulpit has been used for hundreds of years to destroy the confidence of man in himself–to induce him to distrust his own powers of thought, to believe that he was wholly unable to decide any question for himself, and that all human virtue consists in faith and obedience. The church has said, ‘Believe and obey!’ If you reason you will become an unbeliever, and unbelievers will be lost. If you disobey, you will do so through vain pride and curiosity, and will, like Adam and Eve, be thrust from Paradise forever! For my part, I care noth Read more:Quotes
Padre Pio ‘faked his stigmata with acid’ 2007-11-03 21:47:16 Padre Pio, the friar with fingerless gloves whose image is found on a million Catholic key chains; who was canonised before 200,000 ecstatic pilgrims five years ago, was a charlatan who deliberately mutilated himself with acid to give the appearance of bearing the stigmata of Christ, according to evidence to be published next week.
Padre Pio, whose real name was Francesco Forgione, died in 1968. He was made a saint in 2002. A recent survey in Italy showed that more people prayed to him than to Jesus or the Virgin Mary. He exhibited stigmata throughout his life, starting in 1911.
The Italian historian Sergio Luzzatto will release Padre Pio, Miracles and politics in 20th century Italy – a book producing new evidence from Vatican archives, which he says proves that the charismatic friar secretly procured carbolic acid with which to burn his hands, feet and sides.
The allegations are not new: two successive popes regarded Padre Pio as a fraud.

What is the Function of the Soul? 2007-10-31 16:19:58 I remember asking my Pastor this question as a youth, “Where is the soul located? And where can you find the supporting scripture in the Bible?” The answer that I got? “That’s a great question! You know, I don’t think that I have been asked that before, but I know that I have come across the answer before in the Bible. Can I find it for you and get back to you?” He never got back to me…
Looking back, I think that I should have worded the question a little differently. I would like to know what the function of the soul is. After all, if God creates everything to serve a function, ie everything has a purpose, than what is the purpose of the soul? I would contend that if there is a god and it is the Judeo-Christian god, then souls are merely chess pieces to be won or lost.

Parenting Beyond Belief (the book) 2007-11-08 19:47:53 First of all I would like to thank Ute for recommending this book to me. I have to admit that I was surprised to find this book in the local library. Not only there, but it was checked out at the time I looked for it and I had to reserve it! It is edited by Dale McGowan. I can’t say it is written by him because it is a book that has many authors. All of these people have opinions and/or stories about their lives and their views on atheism, how to raise children with ethics and morals, and even some funny and some sad stories that they have experienced.
I have a hard time really trying to explain why I was compelled to read it in the first place. I remember talking to Ute about raising a child who can think for herself and feel confident in her decisions. I don’t want her life to be guided by the guilt that mine was (if you think something bad God will know and you won’t go to Heaven). I know that I have had a lot going on with me this year. The Prayer Diet 2007-11-08 19:13:20 Well, as I was wandering the aisles of my local library, not looking for anything in particular, something caught my eye. It was the word diet, and then my jaw dropped. This book is called “The Prayer
Diet” and it is written by Matthew Anderson, D.Min. He is also a contributor on Ediets.com. I read the back of the book to see if it was really about a diet built around prayer, and it is. Jackie Van Nuys from California says this: “A miracle occurred in my life. I lost fifteen pounds by praying! Now I will be praying about everything. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
After I had checked the book out of the library I couldn’t wait to get home and read it. For some reason I kept thinking that it was a hoax. Then I got to page 29. The author encourages the reader to recite the following prayer: “I realize that I cannot control my weight and my life. I let go and surrender to your love and care. Thy will be done.” After that he says &

How Dare You!!! 2007-11-07 15:31:06 I’ve been an atheist my whole life. Even though I was raised that atheism is “akin to Satanism”, I always felt that I was not an evil person. However, toleration for beliefs other than mine these days, is at times, very trying.
I love humans…not gods, but when a religious human approaches me with the “I’m Heavenbound” attitude, I tend to let my feathers get ruffled like a fighting rooster.
I speak of atheism openly online at different forums, as a free person in the US. And why not? We have been afforded that freedom in our Constitution.
Why do some of our fellow American Christians feel the need to enter Atheistic/Agnostic-themed web sites only to oppose the non-believers and doubters? Speaking for myself…I would never dream of entering Christian websites and challenging their faith. Why do they feel the need to proselytize without an invitation to do so! How dare you!
