I'll tell of the story 2007-07-26 09:51:00 My head hangs low as I walked out of office this evening. Depression sets in. Realities sunk in again as a knocking reminder of self realization and awareness. For the longest time, I've been struggling with my position in this society. There are people who are very smooth-sailing in their careers. I'm not one of these. I have never been satisfied or galdly approved or thankful of my place. I'll always have the bitterness that I've been short changed. You can have so many desires and dreams that are not realised and are far from realising and that just worries you more cos you're worried that you're wasting your youth away. You wonder why you are still here and not where you want to be. There can be two school of thoughts for this question: 1. You are where you are because you're not good enough to be anywhere else. 2. You are where you are cos God has placed you there to fulfill His purpose and plan for you. In logical counselling sense, the latter one is the source of comfort Read more:story

Beneath the Facade 2007-07-25 01:16:00 I'm so into blogging and reading blogs lately. It makes your world looks smaller and the real world looks much bigger. While i swim through the meaningless motions daily at work and thinking about taking up programming job or otherwise, it's insteresting to read about lives of people whom you don't know and who is also taking up the(in his words) s*** in life. I'm usually not and have never been accustomed to swearing. In fact I dislike people who swears all the time. I classify them as people with poor vocabularly. If you walk down clarke quay or boat quay on weekend nights, you see people spawling along and across the street, drinking and getting drunk. And if your ears are sensitive enough to catch their conversations, you hear the four-lettered word repeated twice in every ten words in their sentences. I mean, what is wrong with these people ? Are they so #$%#@%$ with their lives? There is this blog however, journaled by this guy who works as a bouncer in two of the most popular Read more:Beneath
Hollywood, me and my drawing 2007-07-24 04:40:00 As a child, I've never been an artistic person. I'm left-handed alright, but the exceptional one - right-brained with no flair in arts or details. Evolving into the twenties, i noticed one does develop in character, interest and sometimes, talents. I picked up designing and illustrating just these couple of years out of boredom and curiosity. Here's an attempt to illustate myself. I know it's not there yet but it's at least 60-70%, no? Sadly, most of the feedback i received is a unanimous... no.There is a certain point in time at the crossroad when one has to think hard about what to do with one's life. Well, there are two kind of people. The first lived in a rich paved world and doesn't worry nothin' about this confusing life. While the second struggles to find his place in this fallen world. I must have been the latter. Up until a trip to Hollywood
2 years ago, I haven't really figure out what to do with myself. (Not that i've totally figure out now.) After touring Universa Read more:drawing
King of our stomach 2007-07-23 20:26:00 It's the durian season again. As a default Singaporean, I've much cravings for durians. Smell of durians works the acid in my stomach. I walked closer to the stall and there the durian man was up practising his business tricks on me. He quickly pushed 5 trays of his most expensive category to me - the legendary AA! After convincing(or conning) me he's giving me the best price for the better durians, I went to the ATM and withdrawed $20 for him. Something i could ill-afford this month. I get con easily, especially by durian man, that's my weakness (now you know). I could still smell durians on my hand and breath.
O' Give me Hope Jo'anna 2007-07-21 07:28:00 Picked up an old issue of Newsweek from boy's desk. The cover of the magazine featured letters from men in war. I flipped straight in to the articles. It published several letters written by the American soldiers in Iraq war. Some were regular letters to their families reporting their safety, others were letters of their last will. It has been a practice in war that soldiers would prepare a letter to their family when they're out on mission. In the event that they did not make it home, the US army will deliver the letter to the soldier's family, along with their condolences. I choked with emotions reading the letters and the images. It is also heart-wrenching to realise that in times like this, the soldiers had refused to reveal their fears to their families, only words of comfort. Men fought and will fight in war for various reasons. There're some who were called in for duties, some would die for their country. Still, there are those who truely believed in the war. It stirred, and
Down and Out in the streets of Singapore 2007-07-19 07:21:00 I think my world's falling apart, or has it already? I seem to fail in everything i do. It has come to a point i'm numbed about it. I don't know what's holding me up and together, perhaps God. I need a breakthrough. A serious one. Debts are piling, commitments rising, social pressure is pressing.A friend in his 30s once shared he was at a certain point in life grossly down and out and directionless. By God's grace and blessing he is able to do well in his small startup business and is having a fair bit of wealth blessing. I prayed to God after that if He could bestow the same grace upon me as well I shall be unduly grateful. Still waiting for His reply. Read more:streets

Niagara Fall 2007-07-17 01:41:00 Second to the Great Wall of China, Niagara
Fall is the next thing i wanted to visit immediately after reading about it in Geography class at 15. 10 years later, i arrived there. I've to admitt, it was a little less than my great expectation. I had expected a tall fall plunging down. I realise it's the biggest fall(10 years ago, not sure if it still is) because it range across the border of United States and Canada. Big in the sense that it spreads across a wide border.I love the fall for it's magnificient plunge and the unexpected rainbow appearing due to sunlight shinning on the vapour thrown up by the heavy plunge. The water looks fresh and green. It's just refreshing to be there. We drove up to the New York state(with police car tailing us), safely and head straight to niagara fall. Supposedly, they've cruises bringing you down at the bottom of the fall, doing one big tour but it wasn't open during Spring so we didn't get to do that. Insterestingly there were alot of Indian
Love me if you dare 2007-07-16 04:29:00 Last night Arts Central aired this french movie -Love me if you dare. Jolly good and funny show! For more details, see here. It's about this childhood friends who grew up playing dares on each other. The games (jeux) begin when Julien and Sophie are children (enfants), but as they grow older they intensify and become more twisted and dangerous. Their likewise escalating love strives to be expressed in a way other than through the games. Here's a list of their Dares> Immediately after first giving Sophie the box, Julien triggers a bus' throttle and sends it careening into a house. > Sophie saves Julien from an adult's wrath after causing the bus to drive off. > Julien dares Sophie to use profanity during a spelling drill. > Julien pees the floor while being disciplined in the principal's office. > Julien and Sophie play "show–me–yours–show–you–mine" under a table at Sophie's sister's wedding. They then tug a tablecloth, sending the wedding cake crashing to the floor. >
Family Portrait 2007-07-15 20:47:00 Introducing the Hainan Ong & Ong Associates Pte Ltd. (Restrictly patented worldwide). Here's a preview of our family portrait which should be ready in 10 days time. Last afternoon, we went for photo shooting in a studio at Serangoon. This is the second time we're retaking this family portrait. It was rejected the first time cos mum thinks all of us don't look good in the picture. Particularly herself, i guess. Much to our disgruntlement (it's really quite a chore to do photoshooting, especially when you've a relatively big family like this.) We've to pack and dress again and get ready for a 2nd shooting. Yea well, what can i say, mothers usually have the first and last say in a family. So before our turn to move into the studio, we took a quick snaps of ourselves with our phones. Accordingly it's not allowed by the studio shop. Nevertheless, they were so busy will other customers, they left us alone. Which is cool. Here's me with er jie(2nd sis) practising our smiles and trying Read more:Family

Takashimaya Food Festival (12 Jul - 22 Jul) 2007-07-04 20:28:00 The next few days will be busy with preparation for the Food Festival
held in Takashimaya during the last week of Great Singapore Sales. Here's a poster i designed for the fair. Have always been amazed by the ingenuis creation of Freehand and illustrator. Apparently illustrator was created by Frank Abignale J. and his team, of course. I wonder is that the same Frank Abignale in the true life movie 'Catch me if you can'. If he's the one, he truely is more than a prodigy fraudster. Anyway i've 4 more to go.
Singapore 2007-06-30 07:27:00 Yesterday KT received a package from US. It was a recording of her testimony she made in the church in US. The address on the package reads: Blk............. RdSingapore
, China. It's appalling and to a certain extent annoying when people have no concept of how the world looks like. You've to spent half the time explaining Singapore is not in China nor Spain nor Africa. I guess travelling always brings out that patriotism spirit in you cos that's your identity. They say people makes a place, I guess a place identify a person just as much. We all need to be identified with a place or a group we belong to or at least that's how others differentiates you. Anyhow, KT said it doesn't matter whether you know where Singapore is, as long as you know the way to heaven. Couldn't agree more with that. God doesn't draw boundaries between Gentiles and Jews, why should we?Having said that, for the benefit of those who still do not know where Singapore is, please see the asia pacific map below.
Blue Ridge Mountain (North Carolina) 2007-06-30 01:32:00 Right, this is me at the Blue Ridge Mountain
in NorthCarolina
. This spot is called Linn Cove duct. It has a breathe-taking view from the mountain top. Tho' it's not one of the highest peak in the range, it's a beauty in its own rights. You know how they sing about being on top of the world and such..? Well, this is about that feelin'. It was an easy hike up the mountain. We drove our car along the blue ridge parkway, which basically is a road twirling through the mountain range of Blue ridge. We parked our car at the Linn Cove spot and started hiking up. This is my favourite hike cos of it's rocky nature, unlike many of the tropical hikes we have here, with lots of wet forest and soil. There are also rare vegetation along the path. TGIF 2007-06-28 22:13:00 Thank God it's another friday. Love the thought of weekend swinging-in the next few hours. This weekend i'm going down to sign up for my animation course. Can't wait to get my hands dirty with these cool stuff. SS said the company will sponsor me for the course, I have my doubts if they'll let me leave after i take up their sponsorship. I'm sure B thinks otherwise. I pray for God's grace be upon me that i may safely be extracted to a place where I can further glorify His name. Things to remember for an interview:- Strong interpersonal skills- Good technical knowledge-Confidence!Bonus...(if you can read and write like BBC)
Interview 2007-06-27 09:01:00 Did a round of interviews today with the candidates for the position as a promoter at the Singapore Food Fest (Takashimaya 12 Jul - 22 Jul). Finally i get to be on the other side of the table, interviewing instead of being interviewed. Feels quite good tho'. The kids were funny and smart, kiddish and inappropriate at times but hey, at the age of 19-21, who isn't? Almost saw a reflection of myself at 19. Now I've a better idea what to look out for at interview. Crossing my fingers for my own interview tomorrow at the British High Comission.
Life at work 2007-06-26 20:43:00 I intended this blog to be a travelblog. A record of the places i've been to. I guess along the way, I'll drop them in. Life's getting a bit tense here. There's much dissatifaction which i fear will sparkle into a war. It's hard to be truthful here cos you don't know who's reading it now. That's the oxymoron thing about blogging.Someone shared about his misery being a foreigner here in Singapore alone. Never quite understand what it's like to be alone in a foreign land. Everything reminded me of TGG, how he must have felt and why he wants to leave Singapore.
Why I Blog 2007-06-25 21:49:00 Not 2 days ago, I received a message from a churchmate. It was a link to one of the church member's blog. The blog is a journal of this couple's faith journey with the Lord while the wife fought with cancer. On the same day i've got word of the news, the wife passed away and gone to be with the Lord that evening. I wasn't even fast enough to pray for them. It dawn on me once again, how limited our days are and how quickly things maybe taken away from us. I decided to keep a blog to number my days... that i may remember each passing day be the best of my years with the Lord."So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom." -Psalm 90:12
Nice Day 2007-07-28 05:18:00 Cool rainy day right here in city Singapore. Nice and cosy for reading and TV. Signed up for rock climbing with a friend yesterday. Pretty interesting. Gearing ourseleves up for Grand canyon (haha). Problem is, i'll have to wake up early tomorrow morning for 8am service. That's another feat to conquer first.
People II 2007-07-31 21:05:00 As I said, people do makes the world complex. Taking a double blow today; hearing two resignations in the office. More often than not, things just don't happen the way we had imagined. I don't know how much longer i need to go through this. So God help me.Still finding time to draw something for my post here. Till i find time or time finds me, this is it for now.PS. We're looking for interested parties to go diving in Tioman. If you're game, message me.
People 2007-07-29 20:49:00 People makes the world complex. When God created Adam and Eve, He only wanted two simple people to multiply in the beautiful garden of Eden, with no politics whatsoever. The bigger the crowd, the complexity of communicating, interpreting and understanding one another increases. I've probably been spoilt in my little world too much to only realise it recently that people don't understand each other automatically. Even in a small enough crowd, things can get touchy. A use of different words, style of approach and responds, inability to understand easily could potentially annoys another person. There is a term coined chemistry. It's an unspoken, unwritten bond that exists between one another. The ability to look in the eyes, the expression on the face, hear the incomplete sentences and understand his needs. The existence of Chemistry makes life slightly easier especially if it exist between you and someone you've to face three-quarter of a year.Yet there are times when people after k
Clap clap 2007-08-04 04:38:00 "It's your turn. Go on up""you go up V," I frowned."No. You go up PLEASE" V urged.Urged by V's firm push, I stood up from the table with V walking me up to the front. With a firm handshake, I received the silver award for one of our fine champagne at this year's wine challenge from the CEO of a prominent local media, and posed for a picture. Last night was the Gala dinner of the ninth Annual Wine Challenge held by a local Chinese paper. Probably the most successful one in the local scenes. Held in a Chinese restuarant at Conrad hotel, it was a usual tie and jacket event. Can't say much about the food, the night was quite entertaining. In the room were tables of wine importers in Singapore, big players and small fishes gather to await the announcement of the results of the wine challenge. Expecting their wines to be awarded with something. It's insteresting to see the suspense and excitement of everybody's face while the result were announced. While we have our 'fun' drinking an
Women 2007-08-02 01:39:00 I'm not a feminist here nor someone who would go on strike to advocate for girl power. I do however realise now, women do have an extraordinary power and charm. If you know what yours are, you can manipulate it to your advantage. Don't get me wrong, I don't think women should abuse their power (or charm) to get their way around or even climbing the corporate ladder using their physical gifts. But you've got to admit the chemistry between man and woman when it comes to working or business. I see how men are usually more obliged to women, how women can get things done faster when approaching a man for help, how women would usually gain the favour when choice has to fall between a man and a woman. It can be flattering when you find yourself getting things done easily because you gained favour with the other person by your gifts (physical or otherwise).Especially winning the favour by a guy who look like this. It'll just make your day. Read more:Women

I'm sorry 2007-08-13 20:39:00 Talking about buggy browser, Safari beta is still one of them. Was telling V how buggy (or full of bugs) Safari is and the word reminded me of the Armish people in Lancaster. Armish people is a special group of people who chose to lead the simple life (unlike Paris Hilton). They lead a communal farming life, get educated in their own Armish school till grade eight, only wear plain colored clothings (of the same design), uses no electricity, burn fuels for energy. They don't take pictures and therefore has no family portrait. They do stitches of handiwork, blankets and stitch their family names on crafts. It is extremely offending to try snapping pictures of them or videoing them. They travel by their horse carriage called buggy. Most cars would give way to them on the road. They've a unique look, ladies are usually short and round wearing round glasses. Men have long beard wearing black pants blue top with suspensor. They intrigue me. Totally. I've never come across such original g Read more:sorry
Chinese squat around , Indians sit around 2007-08-18 03:01:00 With the recent act by the government welcoming foreigners with open arms, Singapore sees surge of foreign workers of different nationalities, capabilities and talents streaming in. Threatening to upset the racial ratio in Singapore. I'm agreeable with this act. After all, we need this foreign workers to fill the jobs and build the population. The problem with new immigrants and workers is, they bring along their local culture and style of life to the new place. This invariably brings some discomfort to the locals. I mean, Caucasians are generally fine. They drink, they club and create a different night scence here. Some are professionals contributing their talents in the workforce. Increasingly, you see their presence in your neighbourhood, eating at your coffee house, bringing amusement to the aunties and uncles around. Then again, there are always some annoying ones who think they're 'too good' to be around. They might like to know that they aren't too welcome here either. Ther Read more:Chinese
