The 10 Sins of Windows Vista (?) 2007-10-02 07:56:53 Found this article while stumbling thorough some articles on the web and this is what I found:
The 10 Sins of WindowsVista
1. Microsoft Vista Is too expensive . With prices starting from £179.99 to £289.99 on Amazon for 289.99 you could buy a brand new Laptop from Tesco <It might be too expensive but i bet its a better experience than XP if you tweak it up to your needs.>
2. When you finally decide to buy assuming that you have the cash, you will realise that there are too many versions of Vista you might not be able to make up your mind. <Yes, there are a lots of versions but then you got quite a few choices there.>
3. If you do make up your mind and you take Windows Vista
home, install it, well done because now most of your old applications won’t work anymore. Dont ask me why. < I use Vista and most of them do work>
4. The start menu will so much confuse you, you will wish you stuck toWindows XP. <At first it does seem to confuse you but then you will g
30 Year Continuous Power Laptop Battery 2007-10-01 17:23:40 Your next laptop could have a continuous power battery that lasts for 30 years without a single recharge thanks to work being funded by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. The breakthrough betavoltaic power cells are constructed from semiconductors and use radioisotopes as the energy source. As the radioactive material decays it emits beta particles that transform into electric power capable of fueling an electrical device like a laptop for years.
Although betavoltaic batteries sound Nuclear they’re not, they’re neither use fission/fusion or chemical processes to produce energy and so (do not produce any radioactive or hazardous waste). Betavoltaics generate power when an electron strikes a particular interface between two layers of material. The Process uses beta electron emissions that occur when a neutron decays into a proton which causes a forward bias in the semiconductor. This makes the betavoltaic cell a forward bias diode of sorts, similar in some respects to a photovol Read more:Laptop

USB 3.0 hopefully showing up next year 2007-09-29 22:57:54
Intel and others plan to release a new version of the ubiquitous Universal Serial Bus technology in the first half of 2008, a revamp the chipmaker said will make data transfer rates more than 10 times as fast by adding fiber-optic links alongside the traditional copper wires.Intel is working fellow USB 3.0 Promoters Group members Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Texas Instruments, NEC and NXP Semiconductors to release the USB 3.0 specification in the first half of 2008, said Pat Gelsinger, general manager of Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group, in a speech here at the Intel Developer Forum.
In an interview after the speech, Gelsinger said there’s typically a one- to two-year lag between the release of the specification and the availability of the technology, so USB 3.0 products should likely arrive in 2009 or 2010. A prototype shown at the speech is working now, and USB 3.0 will have optical and copper connections “from day one,” he added.

Linux inspired by Vista 2007-10-13 09:30:53 I had always heard complaints about Windows Vista
from people who had never actually used it before. From their responses I couldn’t even think of something Linux
would ever do. I guess the Linux programmers loved Vista so much that they decided to make Linux a rip off of it called Vixta.
Like all Linux distributives Vixta is also for free. For people who want to experience a whole new OS that has the Vista feel in it, Vixta is a perfect choice for them. Take a look at Vixta’s interface and graphics in the picture below and it should remind you of something that Microsoft has already designed-
This Linux distributive is supported by Sourceforge, the home for many opensource softwares. Vixta is a comparatively smaller project. There is very little information about Linux Vixta but but it is known that it will be built on fedora base.
The homepage of Linux Vixta project says that 095 version will be soon released. The main aim of this project is for users to have something e

Bill Gates thanked all the candidates for coming and asking those who do not know JAVA program to leave.2000 people leave the room. Arun says to himself, ‘I do not know JAVA but I have nothing to lose if I stay. I’ll give it a try’
Bill Gates asked the candidates who never had experience of managing more than 100 people to leave. 2000 people leave the room. Arun says to himself ‘ I never managed anybody by myself but I have nothing to lose if I stay. What can happen to me?’ So he stays.
Then Bill Gates asked candidates who do not have management diplomas to leave. 500 people leave the room. Arun says to himself, ‘I left school at 15 but what have I got to lose?’ So he stays in the room.

How Company Policies are established 2007-10-13 03:44:28 In this experiment they put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling. Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the ther monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up. Soon, none of the eight monkeys ever attempts to climb the ladder.
One of the original monkeys is then removed, and a new monkey is put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wonders why none of the other monkeys are doing the obvious, but, undaunted, he immediately begins to climb the ladder. All the other monkeys fall upon him and beat him silly. He has no idea why. However, he no longer attempts to climb the ladder.
A second original monkey is removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempts to climb the ladder, but all the other monke Read more:Policies
Why never question a drunk 2007-10-12 09:25:00 A woman was shopping at her local supermarket where she selected:
a half-gallon of 2% milk,
a carton of eggs,
a quart of orange juice,
a head of romaine lettuce,
a 2 lb. can of coffee and
a 1 lb. package of bacon.
As she was unloading her items on the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk
standing behind her watched as she placed the items in front of the cashier. While the cashier was ringing up her purchases, the drunk calmly stated, “You must be single.”
The woman was a bit startled by this proclamation, but she was intrigued by the derelict’s intuition, since she was indeed single. She looked at her six items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about her selections that could have tipped off the drunk to her marital status. Curiosity getting the better of her, she said “Well, you know what, you’re absolutely correct. But how on earth did you know that?”
The drunk replied, “Cause you’re ugly.”
10 Google Video Documentaries You Have To Watch 2007-10-10 05:39:32 I love Google
Video because they have so many great documentaries free to watch. Here are my favorite 10. Some are sad, some are wacky, but they are all very informative and entertaining.
1. Dangerous Knowledge
In this one-off documentary, David Malone looks at four brilliant mathematicians - Georg Cantor, Ludwig Boltzmann, Kurt Gödel and Alan Turing - whose genius has profoundly affected us, but which tragically drove them insane and eventually led to them all committing suicide.
2. Dogfighting Undercover
BBC-Dogfighting Undercover-August 30, 2007 Investigation into the secret and dangerous world of international dogfighting. For a year and a half, a BBC undercover team operated alongside dogfighting gangs in the UK and Europe, capturing on camera the savagery of organised fights. The film also reveals how American pitbull terriers - a banned breed created to be the ultimate canine gladiator - have been sold by the gangs into inner city Britain.

Round two for Microsoft Zune 2007-10-07 04:31:07 Microsoft
has unveiled the second generation of Zune
digital music players and will offer consumers 1 million unprotected songs on its online music store.
Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it will offer three new models of the Zune in November, including two equipped with flash memory. The 4GB and 8GB versions are iPod Nano look-alikes that will sell for a suggested retail price of $149 and $199 respectively. An 80GB player equipped with a hard drive will sell for $249. The pricing scheme for the devices exactly mirrors that of Apple’s iPods.
Some of the other changes include a complete overhaul of the device’s software and a redesign of Marketplace, Zune’s music store. Other interesting features include wireless syncing and the new Zune Pad, a touch-sensitive technology that enables users to slide their finger across the main navigation button instead of always having to click.
The 4GB and 8GB models represent Zune’s first foray into flash-based players

ATLANTA — The new iPod
Nano is hot. But one Douglasville man said his old Nano got even hotter — hot enough to burst into flames.”So I look down and I see flames coming up to my chest,” said Danny Williams.Williams said the burn hole from the pocket of his pants marks the spot of his 15 seconds of flame. He said he had an iPod Nano and an glossy piece of paper in his pocket. He believes the paper shielded him from being burned.”I’m still kind of freaked out that after only a year and a half my iPod caught fire in my pocket,” said Williams. The iPod uses a lithium ion battery — the same type of battery under recall for setting laptops on fire.Williams said the fact is iPod Nano burst into flames while he was at work was bad enough, where he works could have been another issue. OMG an Apple iPhone and now a Google gPhone 2007-10-18 06:18:43
A recent article in The New York Times is turning that speculation on its ear. The article cites various insiders who say Google
’s efforts are geared at creating a Linux-based mobile phone operating system. There still seems to be evidence that Google is considering either marketing a cell phone directly, or is engineering a working cell phone-software unit that a wireless operator could offer, and that is prepared for manufacturing.
Developers point to the Linux architecture as ideal for mobile designs, in that it is an open design highly customizable for different environments. Linux only provides the naked operating system. The manufacturer builds the interface, telephone, and application platforms on top of Linux.
Anyway, the idea that Google remains focused only on the software development makes no sense, if Google were to just create an operating system, but leave all the hard work of making a useful product from it to another company, it’s possible that nothing would come o Read more:Apple

‘Second Earth’ found, 20 light years away 2007-10-18 04:06:31
The Earth
-like Gliese 581C circles a star in the constellation of Libra that is cooler than our sun. Photograph: European Southern Observatory/AP
Scientists have discovered a warm and rocky “second Earth” circling a star, a find they believe dramatically boosts the prospects that we are not alone.
The planet is the most Earth-like ever spotted and is thought to have perfect conditions for water, an essential ingredient for life. Researchers detected the planet orbiting one of Earth’s nearest stars, a cool red dwarf called Gliese 581, 20 light
years away in the constellation of Libra.
Measurements of the planet’s celestial path suggest it is 1½ times the size of our home planet, and orbits close to its sun, with a year of just 13 days. The planet’s orbit brings it 14 times closer to its star than Earth is to the sun. But Gliese 581 burns at only 3,000C, half the temperature of our own sun, making conditions on the planet comfortable for life, with aver Read more:lsquo

Faster, Vista, Faster! 2007-10-14 08:02:49 One of my favorite features in Windows Vista
is one I don’t think Microsoft is emphasizing enough: ReadyBoost. It lets you use a flash drive to speed up Vista, and it does so noticeably.
I’d love to see Microsoft selling retail copies of Vista packaged with a 1- or 2-gigabyte flash drive. Unfortunately, the company seems more interested in hyping the Aero interface, which is cool but basically eye candy, over ReadyBoost, which is a real performance enhancer.
So I was very glad to see this post by Microsoft OS czar Jim Allchin at the Windows Vista Team Blog, in which he provides some detail on how ReadyBoost works:
. . . Well with Windows ReadyBoost, if you have a flash drive (like a USB thumb drive or an SD card) you can just use this to make your computer run better with Windows Vista. You simply plug in a flash drive and Windows Vista will use Windows ReadyBoost to utilize the flash memory to improve performance.
I should be clear that while flash drives do contain m

By calling the number 1-800-4664-411 (1-800- GOOG -441), users are requested for a state, city, zip code, and then they receive a list of options to be dialed automatically.
The results of their query can be received also via SMS, or displayed as points on Google maps, if the users have smartphones.

Boot Camp reveals the real truth about OSX 2007-10-20 02:51:17 PLASTIC MOLD FIRM Apple, might be finding out that the problem with having a dual boot alongside Windows is that users can compare both operating systems better.
According to Penny Arcade, the introduction of Boot Camp
makes it a lot easier to benchmark what the two operating systems can do.
One of its hacks installed Boot Camp onto his MacBook, installed Windows and then World of Warcraft. To test how the two operating systems compared he ran WoW at 1440 x 900 with all the graphic settings on maximum.
It was barely playable of course but he managed to get a frame rate reading of 15 and 20 FPS under Mac OX.
On the same lap top under Windows and the same settings he managed to get between 35 and 40 FPS. This is a pretty big difference.
The reviewer said that he preferred using OS X, but it was a little difficult to justify when a game runs twice as fast under Windows.
Also, Apple claims that Mac is a lot more fun to use than windows and I wonder if making movies and organizing yo
Difference in the Google Hompage accross different countries 2007-10-24 21:57:46 I just found this on blogoscoped. It’s interesting to see the tweaks they make to optimize their site in different

By overlaying 10 different Google country versions, and 10 different types of search results, you can spot unifying as well as separating layout elements.
OMG Tv-Links Dead 2007-10-23 08:53:28 TV-Links (now dead) is/was an awesome website that indexed movies, TV-shows, cartoons and a whole variety of entertainment stuff. I just loved it, although I still would only if it was on. But, the Gloucester shire County Council, in association with a group called the FACT, raided the site’s servers and arrested the 26 year old man from Cheltenham by whom TV-Links was being administered.
A man is now in prison because he runs a site where other people can link to low-resolution tv shows, hosted by Google. FACT did not raid Google, they raided a site which merely links to TV shows.
Like this: The Office on Stage 6.
As ZeroPaid’s Jared asks, could the people who link to my site be charged as co-conspirators?
This is what is known as Deep Linking (Wikipedia article). There have been a few legal cases about this already in different parts of the world. The most memorable of these was a case in Texas less than a year ago which involved linking to motocross videos. Unfortunately

NASA Discovers Planet With Four Suns 2007-10-28 02:08:36 NASA
’s Spitzer Space Telescope recently discovered what might be the first planetary system with four Suns. The quadruple-star system known as HD 988000 is approximately 10-million years old, and is located 150 light-years away from Earth (fairly close in astronomical terms) in the constellation TW Hydrae.
The Spitzer’s infrared spectrometer enabled astronomers to study the ‘dusty disk’ that revolves around a pair of stars in the quadruple-star system HD 98800 for the first time. Such ‘dusty disks’, formally called accretion discs, are composed of diffuse material that is set in orbital motion around a central body or bodies. These accretion discs are thought to be the birth place of planets. Instead of a smooth, continuous disk, the telescope detected gaps that could be caused by a unique gravitational relationship between the system’s four stars. Alternatively, the gaps could indicate planets have already begun to form, carving out lanes in
Poor Guy… lol 2007-11-01 08:14:34 A man escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a young couple in bed.
He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair, while tying the girl to the bed he gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom. While he’s in there, the husband tells his wife:

I saw how he kissed your neck.” If he wants sex, don’t resist, don’t complain, do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is probably very dangerous. If he gets angry, he’ll kill us. Be strong, honey. I love you.”
To which his wife responds: “He wasn’t kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute, and asked me if we had any vaseline. I told him it was i Read more:hellip
