Shareapic: My feedback 2007-07-23 23:55:27 I had written a few posts about Shareapic a while back:
Get paid to have people view your photo galleries
My first few Share-a-pic galleries
Just to refresh your memory — Shareapic is a photo sharing service that pays you when people see your photographs.
My intention of evaluating Shareapic was to see if it could be a good replacement for PicasaWeb or Flickr, while at the same time getting paid for it. I tried out two different experiments:
1. Uploading personal photos: The aim here was to see if my vacation photos, family photos, etc., which I typically share with the rest of the family could be uploaded to Shareapic rather than the other two sites.
2. Uploading “most-wanted” photos: This is to do with riding the wave; basically uploading celebrity photos, controversial photos, etc.
I think the verdict is quite simple and many of you will guess it as well.
For #1, you cannot expect to make huge amount of cash. Stick to Picasa or Flickr in my opinion for this categ
Google Supplemental Cache and its Impact on your Blog 2007-07-09 00:18:51 Google
’s Supplemental Cache is an area where it dumps pages which it thinks as duplicates. This can hamper your page listing in Google quite significantly if you don’t take care of it.
If you’re running a blog, you just won’t realize that each post that you write can be classified as a duplicate. How you ask? Just think of the numerous ways in which the same post can be accessed from your blog:
You can access it directly from its page where you posted it
You can access it via the RSS/Atom Feed for your blog
You can access it via the Archives
You can access it via the Category pages
Now, how can you convince Google that all of them are actually pointing to just one source rather than being classified as a “duplicate page”?
As part of improving SEO for this blog, I noticed that mid-last month I had over 100 pages from the BlogSailor network dumped into Google’s Supplemental Cache. After doing a bit of searching around, I read a very well writt Read more:Google Supplemental

10.5% Average CTR on PayPerPost Sponsored Posts 2007-08-03 02:14:59 PayPerPost
recently concluded a study on the average CTR (Click-Thru-Rate) on PayPerPost sponsored posts.
CTR as defined by Wikipedia is:
Click-through rate or CTR is a way of measuring the success of an online advertising campaign. A CTR is obtained by dividing the number of users who clicked on an ad on a web page by the number of times the ad was delivered (impressions). For example, if your banner ad was delivered 100 times (impressions delivered) and 1 person clicked on it (clicks recorded), then the resulting CTR would be 1%.
The result claims an average ctr of just over 10.5%. The study was done with 40,000 blogs and 8,000 advertisers on the PPP network.
This is one of the highest CTRs you can get for any form on online advertising medium. This goes on to prove that sponsored reviews or posts is a great way to draw attention to your products and draw traffic to the site.
It surely is not a replacement for other forms of online advertising, but is a form that is catching on and Read more:Average
Get your own Blog Theme! 2007-08-02 02:00:54
How many times have you visited a blog just to be put off by their theme?
What was wrong with their theme?
Oh! Its the same old theme I’ve seen on so many other websites. Yes! Isn’t this true. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of free WordPress themes available for download. Many of them are really awesome, but the better they look, the more they are being used by other bloggers as well.
I realized this very early on when I started this blog. Infact, the current theme that I’m using is the 4th on this blog. The first three were ‘free’ themes that were good, but soon enough I realized there were enough and more blogs out there that used the same theme.
If you’re serious about building a reader base, you will need to differentiate your blog, not only by the content you offer, but by its visual appeal as well.
Either come up with your own theme or hire someone who can come up with one. I’m sure my theme is not the best one around, but at leas Read more:Theme
Speed Linking: 31-Jul-07 2007-07-31 03:51:52
Some useful links for the day:
David talks about 7 blog mistakes to avoid. I especially liked Mistake # 6 - not linking to others as I’d like them to link to me.
Technosailor talks about guerrilla marketing techniques for your blog. How about renaming your home WiFi network to your blog’s domain name? Neat one!! I’m going to do that today
PureBlogging has a nice article on how to expand your blogging network. I agree with the fact that we need to “Leave intelligent comments on other blogs”. This is one area I need to still improve upon further.
Daily Blog Tips has a nice article explaining meta tags to bloggers.
The Venture Skills Blog talks about incorporating captcha into your comments to prevent spam. All this without increasing bandwidth usage from your server.
A very old article from ProBlogger but something worth remembering: SEO for Images is essential.
