2007-07-24 23:55:50

After a month, they’ve made surprising progress. Below, we detail some of the milestone hacks for what has been called “the most significant consumer electronics product ever.” Most of the hacks that have been publicized so far are aimed at controlling or enhancing your own iPhone, but a darker side has emerged too. A security firm announced a possible Wi-Fi-based browser exploit, which could give hackers access to an iPhone’s microphone, surfing history and contact information — and possibly website and e-mail passwords stored on the phone, too. Make no mistake: The iPhone is a magnet for hackers, both good and bad. (more…)

2007-07-23 04:39:19
It has been said that “where there is a will, there is a way.” That sentiment is well served by being applied to the purchasing of today’s cell phones and other electronic gadgets. The term techo-geek, short for Technology Geek, no longer applies to just the pocket protector using, braces wearing, non athletic, characters pictured in the TV shows and Movies. Now, this once derogatory term can be applied to the masses at large with no negative connotation whatsoever. We all love our cell phones and PDAs and that love is only getting stronger as or lives demand our input in events at various locations simultaneously. As new technology provides more and more “stay in touch capacity.” We quickly fill that capacity with a new task that we add to our list. AT&T Laywers start to act on iPhone Unlocking Software
2007-09-08 20:28:23
Several groups have now said that they have software ready that robustly unlocks the Apple iPhone and enables users to use the iPhone on other carriers. One of these groups now apparently (there are some doubts, as lawyers like to send written things first) got a call from AT&T lawyers reports Engadget. This will become a very interesting development. First I am a bit surprised that AT&T gets involved first and not Apple. Considering the revenue share deals Apple is supposed to have made with European carriers, unlocked iPhones would put Apple in a weak position. » Continue reading

Biomorphic RThe unholy Apple/AT&T alliance has been undone, but iPhone is still a waste of money
2007-09-08 20:27:19
If your biggest gripe with Apple ’s flagship media player is that it refuses to make voice or data calls on anything but AT&T’s wireless network, you’re officially free. But the price of freedom, in this case, is either a very steady hand and soldering iron, or a willingness to send money to Australia in exchange for a “Turbo SIM,” delivery date unknown. Of the two methods, I prefer the third: Buy a real phone. Following an exhaustive comparison of alternatives, I have overwhelming backing for my early conclusion that iPhone is vastly outmatched by several devices in its price class. » Continue reading

A Touch of Death About The iPhone Touchscreen?
2007-09-08 20:20:21
In the latest of a series of complaints, iPhone users are reporting that sections of the screen go dead Apple was today monitoring the latest mini-crisis to hit its much-hyped iPhone after some users began reporting that the touchscreen did not work.Threads on several Apple forums – including the company’s own – have been devoted to the problem, which causes parts of the device’s screen to go ‘dead’ and stop responding to the touch of a finger. Typically the dead spot is a strip about half an inch wide that runs the width of the iPhone’s screen as it is held vertically, users experiencing the problem said. In one case, the strip ran across the Unlock button, which meant that the user was unable to answer the phone when it rang. “On the main screen, I can’t hit the button for clock, calculator, notes of settings,” ‘Gwas’, a user of the Apple-dedicated site Mac Rumors, wrote. “For text messages, I can’t hit the send button. On the phone keypad I can’t hi
