Cervical Cancer... Part I....Myths, Lies, and Misconceptions
2007-03-19 19:42:00
A Story Of Cervical Cancer I’ve written it at least 20 times before. Each time pressing delete instead of publish. I’ve written it from several different angles. Some of them with myself being “a friend” or an "observer”. Those stories don't work. For it to make sense, and to come together, I have to tell it just like it happened. This is my story of cervical cancer. I’ve rarely typed those

Taking A Chance ...A Patients Perspective
2007-03-19 18:28:00
Since I will be otherwise busy and not posting part of this week. I have decided to post some things that have already been written and lay in my draft folder. I will tell you now the topic is cervical cancer. You may not want to read them. They have laid there for a long time waiting for me to get the nerve to post. One of my good blog friends has encouraged me to post them. Maybe by doing so,

In The Mailbox ( I couldn't resist)
2007-03-19 05:57:00
Sad News What with all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry La Prise, the man who wrote the song "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in... ...and then the trouble

Cervical Cancer ...Myths, Lies and Misconceptions....Part II
2007-03-20 20:59:00
Part I In May of 1995 I meet the oncologist. I knew right away, this was a good decision. His entire office was like none I had ever seen. Everyone was friendly and so caring. I was a nervous wreck. I had never been to a cancer doctor before. I didn't know what to expect. He was an older Doctor and when he came in the room, I knew right away, I would like him. This began a 5 year relationship

Thinking Blogger Award II
2007-03-23 09:50:00
My friend Mary Anne (Smalltown RN) from across the border in Canada, has given me the "Thinking Blogger Award "... She has said so many nice things that my head is soon going to swell. When I was given this award before I had a very hard time selecting only 5 of my friends to pass it on to. Everyone on my sidebar makes me think. This is an opportunity for me to name a few more of you. The

Cervical Cancer ...Myths, Lies and Misconceptions....Part III
2007-03-22 20:42:00
Part I Part II It's been 12 years since that cancer diagnosis. Life does take on a new meaning once you have had cancer. You come face to face with your mortality. All of a sudden you know that it's all going to end one day. You tend to stop and smell the roses more often. One thing I will say about having cancer. I never regained my health, or energy, to the same level I had prior to it.

Everything Alzheimer's
2007-03-25 23:59:00
Welcome to my post of Everything Alzheimer ’s. I’m doing this post in memory of my mom, who passed away, from end stage Alzheimer’s, five years ago this month. I realize that I was not very knowledgeable, about Alzheimer’s, during the time of her illness. I learned things as we went along. It was a lot of trial and error. If I had known then, what I know now, I would have been a better

Having An Affair (with the computer) XX Rated
2007-03-27 21:28:00
Yes, this is what my husband asked me on Sunday, when I refused to go offline so I could make his dinner. You see, there can be nothing as important as feeding a starving man. I don't know why, for just one day, he couldn't have drank an ensure. I do everyday. It is not that he isn't capable of cooking, he is quite good at it. But, don't ya know, it was Sunday...I must cook on Sunday! That must

SCREAM IT ....
2007-03-30 05:48:00
I'm boiling mad right now. Another one of my favorite medical blogs has decided to close his blog. Neonatal Doc. has called it a day for at least the next little while. I think I have read almost, if not all, of his posts since he began blogging. Over the last week, his comments was taken over by a troll parading around and claiming to be an ER Doc...I recognized him immediately, as the same

Something More About Alzheimer's
2007-03-29 04:27:00
In the comments of the Alz. Post something has come to light, that I think deserves it's own post. This is something that I have known for a long time, but never talked much about it because I didn't understand it or know if other's experienced it . Now, that I know they do I have to wonder...why? Someone left a comment on my story about my mom's Alzheimer 's: Nikeroo said... I'm the primary

Which Soft Drinks Cause The Most Tooth Damage?
2007-03-31 09:47:00
Not long ago, I received an email from Dent.Info.MD that suggested a link exchange with them. I was happy to add them to my links. They have posted an interesting topic ,pertaining to tooth decay, caused from soda pop. You can read the full story here. It never occured to me that of all the soft drinks we have to chose from, that "Root Beer" would be the best one for us to drink with the

A Look at Tanner
2007-04-01 05:20:00
Praise all that is good in this world. I'm finally learning how to post pictures. REAL pictures. It will be 5 months on April 8th. when I told you about our little grandson that was born at 32 weeks. He weighed 4 lbs 1ounce at birth. He then lost down to 3lbs 13 ounces. It took awhile for him to then get back up to his birth weight. Finally, after about 3 weeks in the level II nursery, Tanner

Moving Things Around
2007-04-03 10:27:00
Tanner is going to have his hernia surgery in Dayton Ohio (Children's hospital) on April 17th. Oh what a day that will be. His surgery is scheduled for 4:30 in the afternoon. He is allowed nothing to eat or drink for 10 hours. This baby will be starved! I feel for my son and DIL for what they will go through that day. And certainly for poor little Tanner also. Not just worrying about the

Five Good One's
2007-04-03 09:25:00
A while back, Ipanema had given me mention, in relation to our "Innocent Victim" stories. I saved this for awhile becuase I wanted to get some other posts I was working on up and then I could focus on this one. I knew this one would require some work. I would have to search through my friends archives, to find what posts I was searching for. Here are the rules: 1. Choose five blogs randomly

With My Eyes Closed Tight
2007-04-05 20:37:00
I made a mistake on the date of my PET scan. I wrote it on the calendar for this coming Monday. It was actually today. Thank goodness the hospital called yesterday to confirm my appointment or I would have missed this test. This one causes me to be a little claustrophobic. It is because you are actually on the table and in the tunnel for more than 1 hour straight. For almost all of it your

This Is NOT A Normal Spring!!
2007-04-05 00:06:00
What is the matter with these people, who say..."Well you know, it's March and April, we have all sorts of weather in those months?" No, we don't! But, this year we sure are. March is usually cold, much colder than what it was this year. April is cool and windy with alot of rain and some times it is even a little warm......This year...For the second month in a row now it has been one day WARM (

HAPPY EASTER.......All Dressed Up
2007-04-06 23:44:00
Well, as promised, I took grand kids shopping today, and now everyone has new Easter clothes. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. babies are so easy to buy clothes for. I wonder if that might be because they offer no input whatsoever? They just smile and like whatever you like. Older kids, now that takes reverse psychology. Grand daughter is reaching the age, where she loves everything

Thanks Dr. Charles

I wondered when I had this PET scan the other day about the "setting off security alarms" part of it. I had never heard of such a thing. I know my knee would set them off and I have a card for that. The card they gave me, for this PET scan, was good for exactly 20 hours. It just states that I was given a "Raidonuclide" 15.4 ma.FDG???? at 10:30am on 4/5/07 and this card expires on 4/6/07 at 6:

I'm Good To Go
2007-04-12 02:50:00
I saw the oncologist early this afternoon and I'm good to go. My blood work is OK! Meaning my white cells have not increased much since my last test, and most important, my percentage of lymphocytes? has not increased since my last blood work. That's the big news right there. Also, the anemia I had back in January, from the bleeding ulcer ,is no longer an issue. Unless something comes up and

A Recipe For Cat Food?
2007-04-11 02:03:00
I know alot of you have and love cat's, the same as I. What I want to know is if any of you have a recipe for homemade cat food? I have taken Gary off this store bought stuff and been feeding him people food. Except I really don't know how to go about it. The last few days I have been giving him chicken with some gravy over it. Before that it was beef with gravy. Now, he loves this, but I'm

Fiber Optics "See" Early Cancers

I thought this was interesting...Improved Endoscope? WOW Diagnosis, treatment of cancersIn its first laboratory tests on human tissue, a light-based probe built by researchers at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering almost instantly detected the earliest signs of cancer in cells that line internal organs. If the preliminary success of the "optical biopsy" is confirmed through clinical

Brother's Yard
2007-04-13 09:25:00
Click To Enlarge This is a picture taken last year of my brother's back yard. He lives outside Trenton N.J. in the country, in a smaller city named Columbus, NJ. I would love to have his yard, especially since I now have NO yard at all. This is only a portion of their yard. When you are actually there, loking at it or walking through it, it seems like you are in a park. The picture doesn't

Don Imus Being Fired
2007-04-12 23:28:00
Well I guess many of us knew it would come to this. Personally, I don't care for him, and I don't listen to him. I think he is ,and always has been a big mouth. But, saying that, one also has to admit that any time one person can raise over 40 million dollars for good causes, not to mention, run a Ranch for children who have cancer to help restore their self-esteem, one should take everything

Why I Blog.....A Meme
2007-04-16 05:15:00
My good friend Moof has tagged me for this gem of a meme. I'm supposed to list 5 reasons "Why I Blog". This was harder than it sounds, because for the most part, I just do it without thinking why I'm doing it. But, there are some reasons for it and here is what they are; Boredom…Yes, Cathy is bored to death. I honestly don’t know what I would do without being able to blog to take up a lot

One Kid in Surgery, One Kid That's Sick, One Kid Having Accidents.....
2007-04-19 18:02:00
We were 3 for 3 there for a little while. We are home from son's, for one day, before we leave to visit with other son in Columbus, before going to Tenn....I wanted to give an update about Tanner's surgery. It was quite the day on Tuesday. They had called the day before, and moved his surgery from late afternoon to 10:30 AM. Dave and I then went over to spend the night, as son and DIL would

My BLOG Was Hijacked
2007-05-02 23:08:00
My Blog Was Stolen And Placed On Blogtastic: Be Aware of This. I don’t know where to start with this. I’m going to share it because I think we are all vulnerable to have this happen. It was only by a fluke that I found mine. I will try to explain this as best I can. I am sorry if it will be confusing, as it is a confusing scenario. It took me a while to figure out just how it happened. Back

Home and PDT Done
2007-05-01 23:04:00
We are home until Sunday, then we will go back to Tenn…My PDT is over. This was pretty easy to tolerate. In comparison to ”the surgery”, well there is no comparison. My biggest problem right now is staying out of direct sunlight and even much daylight. We came home in the middle of the night (2nights) to avoid any light and now we have everything closed and shut up in the house. I have to stay
