Back Seat Driver 2007-07-19 09:43:00 : RinaHow many of you are backseat drivers? Well, I am, but not in the sense of driving a motor vehicle. I am a backseat Excel user. Yuuup. This is the nerd speaking, so please be gentle. I just got out of a meeting in which one of the other engineers had up an Excel spreadsheet on the projector screen. Great guy, but slow with the cell formatting and entering data. I started to feel it inside me. You'd know the feeling if you are a backseat anything like I am. You start watching their every move, hoping that they'll use the proper shortcuts. Then as time continues, you realize that they aren't going to be moving any faster than at this... very... steady... s... l... o... w... pace. A burning sensation starts in your stomach, but you refrain from jumping at the person in the driver's seat--in my case, in the office chair across from me. You kindly offer a tip, but it takes them even longer to find it or realize what it is you are saying. Now every move that they make is exaggerated Read more:Driver

Special Coffee for a Special Girl 2007-07-10 13:12:00 : AngelAngelThis will be a short entry because I am special today.I must be special. I must be special today because my thermos of coffee tasted like dish soap. I must be REALLY special, because I continued to drink it for awhile. ! Seriously though, it did not taste good at all, but for some reason, my coffee addiction told me that I needed to drink it anyway. I washed it before I went on vacation for a week, or so I thought I did....I think I need a vacation from that vacation. Appreciating Life 2007-07-02 08:00:00 Wooo! What a weekend, ahem, week! First of all, thank you to all the commenters, emailers, and guestbook-signers. I really appreciate the love! Anyway... this weekend was rather eventful. Being so eventful, this post is long, but get pass the superficial update and you'll understand why I called this, "Appreciating Life".I finished volunteering at the girl's engineering camp and it was a blast. The girls flew their planes WAY UP HIGH. After they left, I got to "fly" one too. "Fly", i.e. avoiding the trees. I'm an engineer, not a remote-control pilot. Volunteering is fun, so get involved! I put up all the pictures here.OK, enough of the PG stuff, let's get to the drinkathon. After another day of work, I headed north with about 25 other people to go camping and tubing in Hersey. On Sat, all of the tubes were twined together so that our mass of drunken sloppiness could float down the river without losing anyone. The whole event was SUPPOSED to be 3 hours long, but if you've ever tub
Girl Engineers & iCandy Release 2007-06-27 11:32:00 I volunteered this morning at an Engineering Girls Camp for 7th graders. Out of all the groups, there was a small little Viet girl who reminded me of myself when I was younger. I basically helped the girls attach tails to their model airplanes so that we can fly them later this week. It's supposed to help interest girls in engineering and technology so that in the future, there will be more women in the field. Out of my department of 12, I am one of two women. Plus I'm Asian, so I'm a minority all over since everyone else in my department is Caucasian. Sooo if you like taking things apart and putting them back together or are good at math/science/physics/problem solving... be an engineer like me!! We're the cool nerds.Anyway, all the other little girls randomly placed mismatched stickers all over their planes with no theme. But that one little Viet girl meticulously designed a mural on the sides of her plane so all the other little girls Ooohed and Ahhed. Definitely a mini-me, alth Read more:Engineers

We Have A Song! 2007-06-22 11:51:00 This September, it will be two years since D intoxicatingly walked into my life at my favorite bar. "Intoxicatingly" being a euphemism for drunkedly if you didn't know the story. We're a couple of club hoppers at heart, meaning, we don't typically slow dance and any song that I remotely think could be "ours" has a hip hop/house/trance beat and a few lines of lyrics that appear to be inspired by love. Or by the urge to make it. Either or. When Master P says "uhhh", that's love right?Time out for some beats. "Unh tiss unh tiss. REEEMMMIIIXXXX. Unnh unh tiss." Thanks, I'm done.Since we live at the dance clubs, there was never really an established song that we, you know, could slow-dance to unless you consider bump & grind in the center of the dance floor to be a trancer's & hip hopper's interpretation of romantic slow-dance. I do, but I also believe that free giveaway tape measures are cool, so I'm not sure if my declarations of anything are valid.Until this week, I realized that
Happy Daddy's Day 2007-06-18 18:26:00 I hope everyone enjoyed your father's day weekends. I haven't seen my father in years so it's no big deal to me really. I think the last time I saw him, I was 15? Single mothers seem to be completely normal now. I hate when people with both parents take any of them for granted. "My dad didn't get me the expensive Playstation game that I wanted. My mom didn't bake 50 cupcakes last night for me" "WAHH WAHHH WAHHH!" Anyway, my mom played every role in my life and on Father's Day, I usually just appreciate her a little more. Props to all the single mothers out there. You have the toughest job in the world.I called my father Sunday morning and wished him well after I woke up. Our conversations are brief, but nice. It kind of makes me feel as if he is pseudo-there. Then, I called my boyfriend's dad who is out in California for a little R&R. You could definitely feel the presense of some holiday over the weekend since all the hot spots were pretty mellow.Han had a VIP birthday (26! Read more:Happy

Keyphrases 2007-06-12 07:14:00 Apparently, if you look up "Tila Nguyen's chest size", "angry asian woman", "young asian school whores", "stripboys", "why men don't commit to relationships", or the "sony t10 pink camera", my website comes up.See Key Phrases 1That was one of my logs for keyphrases that people use to get to so-uneek.com. That is one eclectic list of phrases. I think now I will diversify and start throwing in random blogs about how to milk cows (not that I know how), the approximate circumference of the Earth (FYI, it's 24,900 miles), or maybe even about time travel (because I am a frequent flyer time traveler). Go me. Anyway, the pictures site is coming along so I'll probably launch it by the end of June. It's pretty simple so that the pictures aren't bothered by a busy design. It's just taking awhile because I have about 7,000 images linked to my flickr account that I will be putting on the site. Yeeaaaahhh. Thank whoever for inventing the digital camera. They make whoring yourself much easier
Dishwasher Bandwagon 2007-06-11 06:42:00 You would probably imagine engineers to be high tech gadget freaks who LOVE to rig up fancy home devices to help them get dressed or make their breakfast in the morning.Don't look at this girl. I get into software and gadgets too, but sometimes, I'm so behind on the times. Example, I have a dishwasher. It isn't the best, but it gets the job done. I didn't use it until about a month ago. *GASP* The engineering gods are going to come after me with a big protractor!Seriously. I NEVER used them. I grew up without one and my Asian family would prefer washing dishes by hand because it's "cleaner". My family is from the third world-- machines schmachines!!! Forget that it saves oodles of precious time. Nope. Wash by hand. In fact, my mother has one now and she uses it as a drying rack... extra storage space is good! That's how I used mine until one day, my boyfriend showed me how EASY it is to turn one on and forget it. What a time saver. Granted, I think the water efficiency isn't all Read more:Bandwagon
The R6 and Pics 2007-05-30 08:05:00 It's been awhile. Work + School has been killing me, but I am still alive and well. This is just going to be one of those BLAH updates before I am off again! Thanks for the comments in the last post. I've updated plugs (see end of post). And in response to some of those comments, "Yes, I do carry myself accordingly and I'm not walking around pushing my goodies out on anyone. The boy is by my side when it happens." I have been updating portions of the site, so that is mainly why I have been neglecting the blog posts (boo, I know). A new pictures site with ALL my digital pictures-- well, maybe not all-- will be up in the next week or so!AND how could I forget this? We planned a date a couple weeks ago. (Sometimes, you just have to plan a date for the teo of you otherwise the busy weeks add up and you forget to spend quality time together.) He came and surprised me with these beautiful lilies . We went to Macaroni Grill. I recommend the Salmon. Then, we met up with everyone at my favor
Look, Don't Touch 2007-05-19 21:12:00 To clubbing men everywhere,I like to dress up when I go out. I like to wear short bottoms and the occasional backless shirt. Throw in some Vickie's bra to boost up the cleavage and I'm bar bound. But let me get one thing straight. I DON'T BELONG TO YOU. LOOK, DON'T TOUCH.Seriously. I was rocking out some short shorts last night at the club and while standing with my boyfriend at the bar (his hand was around my waist!), some asshole pinched my ass and said "MMM" . I turned around and told him, "*@cK U!" My boyfriend heard me and asked what was wrong and I told him some asshole pinched my ass. The asshole heard me and walked away. This reminded me of another time when some pig decided to rub my back while I was wearing a backless shirt. A woman does not merit disrespect unless she outright whores herself around. I may dress sexily, but I am no slut and do not welcome creepy men touching me. Don't pretend to walk by and bump into my chest. I will elbow you. I don't have a problem ge

-American women.According to Elizah Noh, who has been studying depression/suicide cases in young Asian women since her sister commited the act, most women contemplating/committing suicide between the ages of 15-24 years are of Asian descent. I was initially surprised since I've never encountered such a study or experience, luckily, before. However, I continued reading and my surprise meter began to fall. It made sense. Ode To The Ride 2007-05-14 08:19:00 Yesterday, on my way home from eastside Mother's Day weekend, I got pulled over 2 miles from my exit for speeding. I was going 90mph when I saw the Po and took my foot off the gas. Of course, I was on the phone so I didn't pay attention to my detector SCREAMING at me. He clocked me at 86 and gave me a "break" issuing an 80 in a 70 zone. You would think that since my mom is dating a cop that I might be able to get rid of this, but I hate his guts so probably no favors for this girl. Anyway, it's $85 out of my pocket and just 2 points. My last tickets are off my record since they were 3 years ago. Still. Grr. I didn't even argue with him... I was going 90! Maybe a boob flash could have fixed everything, but I don't think he would have appreciated an ungraceful shirt-lift from under my seatbelt. Oh well. It's cheaper than my past tickets. After hitting 100,000 miles this year, my baby (my car) decided to give me a hard time about everything. Where can I start...?She decided to hit an
This Type Love 2007-05-13 20:29:00 I saw this on Def Poetry a long time ago. Fell in love with it immediately. Just wanted to share... (pause the music first!!!)I want a love likeme thinking of you thinking of me thinking of you type love,or me telling my friends more than I've ever admitted to myself about how I feel about you type love, or hating how jealous you are, but loving how much you want me all to your self type love,or seeing how your first name just sounds so good next to my last name, and shit, I wanted to see how far I could get without calling you, and I barely made it out of my garage.See, I want a love that makes me wait until she falls asleep then wonder if she dreaming about us being in love type love,or who loves the other more,or what she's doing at this exact moment,or slow dancing in the middle of our apartment to the music of our hearts, closing my eyes and imagining how a love so good could just hurt so much when she's not there.Shit, I love not knowing where this love is headed type love. And

Easy is not relative to the content. It is referring to the fact that I must somehow sit still and awake for that long. Torture. Beautifying My Life 2007-05-05 12:00:00 Finals were last week and my first semester of grad school is officially over. These next 2 years are going to be trying, but I don't see it happening any other way. Unfortunately, I came down with food poisoning in the middle of finals. Let's just say that final presentation was challenging. I finally got over the nausea on Tuesday and got back to working, working out, and finishing more of my apartment! Before I even get into the pics, I just want to make a statement that I own all of it. No financing. Working girl, bitches! I'm pretty proud that I worked and did all of this by myself (with some paint help from the Dork, hehe) The styles def represent me-- I love clean lines, I love to decorate, I love to get my hands on making stuff, and I like "different". If you don't like it, TOUGH!So this is what I accomplished by Wednesday! This is what you see walking into my living room. I chose Ralph Lauren's Palm Leaf green. Back In My Day 2007-05-03 14:53:00 I remember when we got our computer back in '98-'99. My family subscribed to AOL and therein lies the birth of my blogging days. I remember when people would say, "what the hell is blogging?" At times, I even got made fun of or in troubly for it, because they didn't understand or took the things I wrote out of context. (Now those people have their own blogs.) Well, it's 2007 now bitches and everyone and their moms have blogs, their own sites, freakin' myspace pages. I remember being on myspace when there weren't any users practically! I was a member before Facebook!I used to find these awesome sites that people made from scratch scripting. No templates, no "fill-in-the-publisher-box" crap. People made their own graphics and were so much more creative. Now, we can browse sites, pick a template, copy & paste, and voila: you have your own unoriginal site. It's a great thing, but now there's so much junk out there. Finding an interesting blog to read is nearly impossible. Finding a
He Was A Loner With No Color 2007-04-17 17:07:00 I can imagine it now. Some little Asian kid in the second grade is going to be taunted about whether or not he is carrying a gun. What happened yesterday at Virginia Tech is so tragic. I read it on CNN in the middle of my training. I couldn't believe what I was reading. What could have caused anyone to think they could take other lives? I followed the news closely today and found out as soon as the websites refreshed, that the gunman was identified as a South Korean immigrant who came in 1992 through Detroit. Geez--close to home. Almost immediately, racial comments evaded blog networks like Technorati about how selfish immigrants are and everthing focused on the guy being Asian. Issues like new reports of him being "disturbed" and a "loner" were surpassed by his out-of-country origin.VA Tech made it to the front page of all newspapers for all the wrong reasons yesterday, but it does not justify starting hate in retaliation. Most mass-homicides are statistically due to white males, but Read more:Color
Drug Of Choice 2007-04-09 09:55:00 Ask a college student what he thinks the typical drug of choice (DOC) is and he will reply BEER, er some form of alcohol. The age limits applied to it make it seem like the forbidden apple so everyone does it out of temptation, right? Who wouldn't try it save maybe you righteous do-gooder folks? Props... I'm not that holy.I used to go out at least three times a week in the prime of my undergraduate days. Mind you, I am 22 ?!?!. I'm a big girl now and so my relationship with binge boozing has changed. My choice has been involuntarily changed to be... CAFFEINE. Usually in the form of coffee, I have a tall-ass thermos of it daily. It has no affect on me now. In fact, I think its effects have grown adverse and I am more tired after consuming it. Too bad coffee doesn't have the same affect in the office as it does at the bar or a frat party. I can't drink coffee and then have the time of my life everyday at work. It's pretty hard to bong coffee and drinking it doesn't entice you to Read more:Choice
Grammar Schooled 2007-04-07 09:34:00 My writing skills aren't perfect, but there are just some grammatical errors that piss me off:1) The interchangeable use of the words "there" and "their". Likewise,a. where and wear2) Writing the "1st" as "1rst". THERE IS NO "R" in the superscript. 3) "lololololol"--The acronym "lol" stands for "laugh out loud". We can't laugh out loud out loud out loud out loud out loud out loud out loud. 4) Writing the way you speak. Example, some girls have a tendency to overuse the word "like" in speech. "LIKE" is UNNECESSARY in text. Don't reinforce your stupidity.5) TyPiNg LiKe DiS! I had MTV on in the background before class one day and the show "Parental Control" was on air. Basically, someone's parents don't like their current significant others, so they agree to come on the show and each parent picks a mate for their kid in hopes that the kid picks someone new. The parents usually make fools of themselves and watch their son/daughter get groped by the person they picked. Classy. Well, Read more:Grammar
F'd Up Future 2007-04-06 13:04:00 God, some days I wake up and think that the poor kids I might bring to life one day will grow up to be little shitheads. One day I might birth children who think it's ok to have sex when they're 12 and that mommy and daddy can pay for whatever you want. Shows like "My Sweet Sixteen" are leading to the demise of perfectly humble and well-adjusted kids. They're setting the standard for allowing spoiled rich kids behave as such. Those parents are morons. I'd sooner go to hell for a winter vacation that allow my children to behave that way. Don't get me started on the "Spring Break" specials. I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say that I am blinded to those things, but I'll be honest, I'd be much more screwed up and irresponsible had I started watching those stupid reality shows much sooner in life. Some people criticize families that do not pay for their children to go to college if they can afford it. You know what I say to that? "You better be teaching them the value of h Read more:Future

Why I Won't Teach You How To Pick Pineapples 2007-03-30 07:16:00 I don't pretend to discuss subjects like hockey to people when I don't care for it or don't know it. You won't find me having an opinion about why Pluto is no longer a planet or teaching you how to pick out the perfect pineapple because I just don't know. I also won't ever discuss what it is like to be in the majority because frankly, I don't know. In fact, being in the majority may discomfort me as I am not used to such situations. I'm a freakin' Asian female engineer-- an Asian woman in a white man's profession working for a white man's company in the bible belt. If I revisit Vietnam, I'm an American and they can pick me out in a second-- still a minority. But many times, I hear white people discussing race and ethinicity with so much conviction that I can't even say anything in return because it's so pointless. I don't mean to sound prejudice, but I am judgmental so take it as it is. I'm not saying that white people don't have culture. No. I am saying that if you do
Panty Stealers Anonymous 2007-03-28 06:42:00 Some people steal money-- so overrated. Some people steal jewelry-- no imagination. No, it takes a true creative burgler (or maybe just a troubled one) to steal panties out of laundramats. Read the story. Panties can be pretty, but comon, they can be pretty nasty too. He didn't know where those panties have been! But I guess if you're willing to snatch 5 garbage bags full of them, you might have some problems. As if I didn't have enough to worry about-- getting hijacked, midterms, murder, bitch-slapped by a pimp-- no, now I have to guard my underwear. I wonder if he liked granny panties. I bet he wouldn't take those. I might be safer if my undergarment choices changed.I guess it's better than being the heavy-breathing creep at Victoria's Secret.Categorized: Miscellaneous

The internet that I was borrowing at home disappeared. The idiots who didn't lock their connection with a password have left me in despair. Outside, I seem calm and collected.
