Sexy Elevator Music
2007-09-10 08:13:00
: Teelia, Andy Nguyen, Katy, RinaSidenote before I even get into my discussion of sexy elevator music: Thank you for the nice comments and for liking my narcissitic layout of my vector-self on a magazine cover that I will never ever be on. You've ballooned up my ego and now maybe I can love myself THAT much more. Just kidding. But seriously, thank you and thanks for the new links! I'll update my link list this week. And my wedding website is in the works. Learning about the traditions of my culture has been pretty exciting! End sidenote.Say you live in a tall building that necessitates the utilization of elevators to get you to the main floor. Suppose you want to ride this elevator because you have to get yourself to work and cars can't park on the 10th floor -sadly-, denying you the convenience of not having to use said elevator. Let's say, for the sake of realism, that you will most likely run into neighbors in that lobby waiting for the elevators because other people have to par

Sick With Excitement

: Andy, Rina, MayNew layout! If you don't see a magazine cover to your left as a navigation menu, then refresh the page! What do you think? No, I'm not vain if you're asking--well we all are a bit aren't we? I just don't like making celebrity layouts because this is my site and I don't idolize anyone. I'm happy keeping this personal to me. And I wanted to do something different, so I skinned the site and made it so that people can choose their layouts. (Works with cookies only). AND I have a great love for vector layouts because they take a LOT of work.Thank you so much for all the comments/congratulations on my engagement story. I can't believe some of you actually read the ENTIRE POST. It was freakin' LONG! And to answer many of the questions/comments: Yes, it was definitely the best birthday present that I have ever received. I am extremely happy and I only hope that everyone else can find the same! I will definitely return all messages... it might take me a bit of time.Eve

Marrying Your Brother?
2007-10-08 11:46:00
: Snow Love, Destiny, Alyssa, Rina I had a NICE post in mind until I met a middle-aged white woman who asked if my fiancé and I were related--at a bridal show. Are you kidding me? Why, as a matter of fact I am Asian. Why, as a matter of fact, my fiancé is also Asian. Why, yes we both have black hair. Why, yes we both have natural tan skin. Why, yes we have dark brown eyes. Yesterday, at a theknot booth at a Bridal Show representing Mid-Michigan:You guys are SUCH a cute couple, you look like brother and sister. What nationality are you two?*Thinking: WTF old lady, you wanna get punched? Here we go* He's Viet and I'm half Viet and Half Chinese. So you're the same?! You both have the same color and everything!SAME? SAME COLOR? Is Polish and Italian-French the same? Is Canadian and American the same? Does that mean that I must be related to him? Does this woman have a death wish? Is that how they teach you at theknot to advertise and represent their company? Do you expect

: Snow_love[edit] Oh, my poor international readers... you've been commenting to this post about how you don't celebrate Halloween!!!!! It's my FAVORITE. Well then, I guess I'll just have to dress up and take some shots for you when the celebration begins! Poor me... [/edit]BTW, the proper abbreviation to say "you are" is "you're", not "your". If you actually had the audacity to say I was over-offended in my last post, then you didn't read it to the end. Unless you WOULDN'T be offended if people purposely threw fish on your lawn because you were Asian. Hey if you can grow up with that and not allow it to offend any bit of you, more power to you, and welcome to Earth. Raise your hand if you know what facetious means! I LOVE Slut-o-ween. Two years ago, my best girl and I made Dirty Girl Scout (ala one of the best girly shots ever) costumes which won us a free trip to VEGAS from my favorite club. It was a riot, people still recognize us as the Dirty Gi

My First Great Debt
2007-10-25 11:58:00
: Snow_love , Katy Long post. (Btw, you guys were right. We should have gotten a patent on those damn costumes or at least paid... in liquor...) Our closing for the house was October 18th, so D and I are the proud new owners of America's greatest debt: a HOUSE! Not going to sugar-coat it. The closing was pretty anticlimatic. There was a pile of papers and consequently, hand cramps. THEN, we were handed the keys and garage door openers ! After signing and initialing what seemed to be like a million pages, we drove back to the house and took some cheesy pictures. He moved in the day after. Me? I'm trying to survive night classes after work. I am defintiely excited about everything and will post a BEFORE tour up soon of the place! It is love-hate though. After much deliberation, I can't have my ideal situation. Ideally, I would not move in with my fiancé at all until we were married. Why? Because I LOVE my top-of-the-city view. My room is Mauve. I get a free gym, parking, and hot

Jungle Fever & Football
2007-11-05 07:16:00
: Snow_love, Andy NguyenNovember already. Really? I was SOOO excited to pass out candy for Halloween, until I realized that I had a midterm on corrosion and material degradation. Then after the midterm, I pulled an all nighter to finish a project (modeling an RC car in CAD). Then I drank an unrecorded (and probably unhealthy) amount of caffeine, mainly in the substance of coffee--p.s. Coffee, I love you. Please be my backup in case he doesn't want me anymore. It has been one long Wednesday. Er... I don't even know what day it is.Due to my lack of comprehension and wit, I am just going to post some Halloween pictures. Every year I have two costumes, one with my girls and one for myself. Breaking tradition was not an option this year. The first night of celebration, D and I were streetfighters! I made a Chun Li costume and he tore up his old karate uniform to be Ryu. He even made a Hadoken--classic. More street fighting action? The next night was the group night. With the girls, we w

The Things We Almost Lost In The Fire
2007-11-09 10:53:00
: Andy Nguyen, Daisy, snow_love, DestinyThe title is a reference to the new Halle Berry movie, but now it has significance to me! My fiancé moved out of his apartment on October 19th. A couple of our friends still live in that apartment complex. One of the guys called us with word that his old apartment caught on fire this past Monday in the middle of the night. No one was injured, but the roof of the place is missing. It started by the bedroom around 2AM... had he still lived there, he would have been sleeping and his only way out of the place with the fire starting by the bedroom would be to jump down 3 floors. I would have been there too since I spent my nights in his apt on the weekends. He's had some close calls before too--bad car accidents, etc. No has since moved into the place and the complex manager had the place inspected after he moved out. We don't know if they figured out how it was caused yet. It's hard not to think about what could have happened had we not fou

Working by the Mountains of Qingtao
2007-11-20 18:48:00
: Snow_love, Destiny[Note] This was written on 11/13 and 11/14. In transit, it was difficult to post. I will continue the posts each day for the week that I was overseas! [/Note]I had to wake up and check out of the hotel by 6AM. I caught a taxi to the airport and flew another 2 hours to Qingtao. The meetings went relativly smoothe. Again, the company I visited took me out for a 10 course lunch of fresh seafood. I'm not talking fresh as in dead and refrigerated. I'm talking, "go pick your food from the tanks and they'll cook it!" It was delicious! I took a couple pictures of the food display: After such a huge lunch, you can imagine how difficult it was to get back to work, but we did. After more meetings, we all had dinner at the local 5-star hotel, Sea View Garden Hotel. It had roots of European architecture and the restaurant inside was absolutely amazing. I know why 5-star hotels get the rating that they do!I checked into my hotel and then the next day was more work.

West Meets East: Trip to Shanghai
2007-11-18 20:31:00
: Rina, Snow_love, Destiny, Katy[Note] This was written on 11/12. In transit, it was difficult to post. I will continue the posts each day for the week that I was overseas! [/note]Ni Hao! I am in Shanghai at the moment, winding down from my first day working here. It's already been a long week. After about 15.5 hours on planes, I arrived at 3PM Sunday Shanghai-time. My company contact picked me up with a driver and after another 45min in CRAZY traffic, I checked into my hotel and started a little sight-seeing. If you've ever been to Chicago and thought traffic was insane there, wait til you experience Shanghai . They warned me that if I had to get into a cab, look for the star rating. I had a driver who drove crazily through the city. I thought that was bad until I got into a cab with ZERO stars. There is no such thing as right-of-way here. It's more like "if your truck, car, bike, moped, or body fits here, you can go there without any regard to what is around you" . The p

: Snow_love, Destiny[Note] Thanks to Olivia for picking my pen.name as the winner of her .name contest! [Note]I forgot to mention on my 11/19 post that while I was at the airport, two either Australian or English men sat behind me in the boarding area of the gate. One stood up and took a look at me. This is where I believe English-speaking people can be so ignorant. He assumed that because I am Asian, that I wouldn't understand English. When he looked at me, he said to the other man, "Hey Boss, this one's got a nice look to her."The other man stood up and turned to look at me. He smiles. I pretended that this poor little Asian girl carrying a U.S. passport doesn't speak a tongue of English. The first man continues, "She's got nice lips." Granted, he complimented me and the other man agreed . At the same time, they insulted me assuming that I could not understand . I know Asians look the same to people who aren't Asian. Honestly, blondes all look the same to me l

Until Later, Shanghai
2007-11-29 09:54:00
: Destiny, Snow_love[Note] This was written on 11/16. In transit, it was difficult to post. After this, I'll have normal posts, not like you care anyway! [/Note]Thursday was my day off so I planned to do some more shopping around Shanghai . I started at the Yu Garden Bazaar. Holy haggling. I never had to work so hard to buy something! It was actually a new experience for me to wander around by myself and speak numbers to the locals. I bought 3 huge leather purses, a couple wallets, and some trinkets for my "Asian" living room. I barely spent a dime (compared to worked in Germany for a week last year--expensive!), but after buying the huge purses, I was lugging around a garbage bag, so I took a cab back to my hotel to unload. After watching Meet Joe Black in English with Chinese subtitles, my coworker picked me up and we went shopping in mall outside of Nanjing Rd (People's Square). As you drive through the city, you see many references to the Olympics, which are going to be

Grad School Woes
2007-12-02 19:39:00
: Snow_love, DestinyIt's almost narcissitic to apologize for not writing since it implies that the writer assumes people are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the next post, but I feel compelled to tastefully vent about working fulltime and schooling halftime. Not part time. Half time. That was the term paper I turned in this week. I wrote it in a week after I got back from China. It was not my master's thesis, just a term paper--with a monster staple. I haven't even THOUGHT about my wedding in over a month. I haven't bought groceries in over 2 months. D helps me out so much with everything. I think I scare him into not going back to school for his masters, but it's important for a woman to get hers "out of the way" if she chooses to obtain one, considering women have to be the goddesses who bear children. Props to you working/schooling/mothers. I know you're out there and I can't imagine a more impossible task. Unless of course you bring in the subject of

What Type A's Do For Fun
2007-12-14 14:14:00
: Destiny , Snow_love , Andy Nguyen FINALLY. Hell class was over on Wednesday with a 3.5hr final. (That's the class in which I had to write this term paper, single spaced. For those who asked what I wrote about in all those pages... I don't even know lol. No, jk, it was to research an algorithm for developing target material data... yeah, I know. No need to sympathize with me though because I actually like being pressured and busy. I actually don't know what to do with myself if I stumble upon some "free time") My last final was on Thursday! So now I can concentrate on my move and remedying my lack-of-sleep problem. Somehow I have to manage packing everything in one week. The one weakness that I have always had in my life, aside from a good chocolate bar... or some good pho... or sushi... or hell, food in general, is the fact that I am addicted to overloading myself with all kinds of crap to do--any crap, I love crap. I like being busy, but I also hate it sometimes. I love

New Thing #1: Snowboarding
2008-02-27 07:54:00
: Rina, Snow_love, Des, CatherineMy fiancé's little brother, K, planned a snowboarding trip for his birthday this past weekend, so it was our first new thing of the year to try. It's almost the end of the season, so luckily I was able to find some less expensive coats and girls' pants for the trip... now I might have to scope out boots and a board! It was a LOT of fun. I was not as scared as I thought I was going to be going up the lift or even getting off the lift. I wasn't scared to start moving down the first run. What I was terrified of was when I went straight and picked up a lot of speed... considering I did not know how to stop, lol. All the falls I had going down the first run were not bad at all--mainly because I made myself fall to avoid hitting the cute little kids who wer

It's our third Vday together. Our very first was spent all out on a trip to Chicago. Last year, we set a $25 limit on gifts and went wine tasting. (Love love love wine tasting.)Tomorrow, I am taking him out to dinner at a new place (Korean and sushi, MmmMmm) to celebrate some of my recent successes. I have to suffer through classes tonight. We're not buying gifts because we are renovating the house and *ahem* we are paying for our wedding. He's bu

My Life As A Sitcom
2008-01-29 08:16:00
: Snow_loveIf I was on a sitcom, it would be one of those in which the main character has delusions of strangling people while they talk about nonsensical matters or the gut punching of people who have not mastered the obvious. Did you ever see Monster In Law with Jennifer Lopez? Remember the scenes when the soon-to-be-mother-in-law shoved her J Lo's face into the cake, but then fazed out of the daydream back to J-Lo just talking? Maybe it was the other way around. I suck at retelling movies. My sitcom would be one of those, but instead of head slams into a cake, it would be pseudo-drowning into a toilet. "HOW 'BOUT A SWIRLEY, YOU BIG FAT STUPID HEAD?!"Guy who annoys me: "Hi, how was your day? Nice weather we're having eh?"*Punch & knee to the Nads*Girl who says 'li

2007 Milestones
2008-01-04 10:12:00
: Snow_loveHAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope the holidays were great for you. I FINALLY took some time off to do things for myself. In lieu of holiday travel, we managed to put up a tree amidst all of my moving boxes--which means I am all moved into our place! We didn't do Xmas cards this year together, but if we did, it would look something like this:Hehe, NYE was amazing as usual. About 20 of us met up in Chicago and partied at the Drake Hotel with 3,000 other people. Top shelf and DELICIOUS food all night. It was storming outside, but since we stayed in the Drake, we were able to enjoy it without standing in bathroom lines and running outdoors. Pictures: Unfortunately, my beloved laptop was sent away for repair. My LCD screen had been blinking and I felt like I was having a seizure whenever I

The Perfect Wedding Dress
2008-03-14 08:41:00
: Snow_love , Rina Thanks for the tail bone well-wishes. My ass has finally stopped hurting. The cruise was amazing. I am tanned and a LITTLE more relaxed. Pictures will be up shortly... all 640+ of them. I've been playing catch-up all week, *sigh*.In my research to find the most perfect-est wedding dress for my big day, I started wondering, "Hmmm, how often do these brides keep their dresses?"So my pondering led me to look through the emporium of classifieds known as Craig's List. It did not fail me in my research. I found pretty dresses from women who called off their weddings, divorcés, women who bought TWO dresses, and women who quite obviously wanted to look like beaded mermaids. Case: See to your left.I know I am rather lucky to have found this dress first, but since

Hello Hum Drum
2008-04-15 07:18:00
: Snow_loveIt's been awhile since I've had the free time to work on things I'd LIKE to work on instead of work or school. Grad school is wearing me down. It's almost the end of a semester--then I have two left!Anyway, this is long overdue, but I had a great time on the 7-day cruise through the Mexican Riviera. We traveled on Carnival. Despite the tactless karaoke host who publicly shouted racial remarks and called Canadian's Idol host "gaydol", I enjoyed my time. (They really need to get some diversity training to their staff.) Actually, the rest of the staff was from all over the world, and it was refreshing not to see JUST Caucasians around. The staff aside from the aforementioned was incredible. The food was good--though the breakfast buffett every morning got old. We didn't

Battle Wounds

: Catherine , Snow_loveEarlier last week, my car got rear-ended by this young girl wearing the largest sunglasses I have ever seen. She went on for a mile a minute about how sorry she was. In the end, I had a minor scratch, so I nixed calling the cops and went on my way. If my bumper was dented, I would have gone off on her huge-glass-wearing behind. Good thing my baby was OK.Now, I feel like I go

Or does it only seem that way because the few who b*tch about other people changing things b*tch so much that it sounds like more people are like that?I use
