Lapu-Lapu Monument
in Luneta Park facing the Philippine Department of Tourism was donated by the Korean Government. Lapu-Lapu or Kaliph Pulaka was the earliest known indigenous Visayan chieftain, and he was the Datu (King) of Mactan in the Philippines. He resisted the Spanish colonization and battled with Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan where Magellan and his soldiers were killed. This larger than life bronze like statue of 16th century Lapu-Lapu at Agrifina Circle became controversial, some remarks ranging from being out of place to obscene.
