What Is System Cache?
2007-04-14 23:08:00
Question:A while back you wrote about the different types of cache, but I am wondering what "system cache" is?Answer:Well there are about 2 different answers for this depending on how you use the term. I will quickly go over all of them.System cache can refer to L1, L2, and L3 cache which resides in chips on your processor and on your motherboard. This type of cache is used for incredibly short-term storage of data, especially data that is on its way to or from your computer's memory.System cache can also refer to a type of cache that some operating systems utilize, which is used to speed up application launch times and make your system seem much speedier in general. This is why when you launch a program after just quitting it the launch time will be very quick.

2007-04-15 17:02:00
Question:Are Popup Blockers Illegal?Answer:If you want to get technical, yes they are. Since they modify the way a web page is presented to the user it is a form of copyright infringement. However, I doubt any judges will be saying that anytime soon.

2007-04-19 17:52:00
Question:I was messing around with my new mac and I saw something called colorsync. What is it?Answer:Colorsync allows you to customize the colors and such for your monitor. If you have multiple monitors you can even customize a different Colorsync "profile" for each monitor, so they display colors the same exact way.Another nifty thing you can do is set it up so your monitor displays exactly how your printed work looks, which is very nice. You can change your Colorsync profile in the Display section of System Preferences.

Does Emptying My Cache And Browser History Protect Me?
2007-04-22 22:46:00
Question:I checked my e-mail at work and clicked on a link that brought me to a "bad" site. Does deleting my browser cache and history protect me from any problems at work?Answer:A tech-savvy person could get some software to read in the hard drive's content bit by bit (even the deleted stuff, assuming that part of the HD wasn't written over), but if they haven't said anything yet I wouldn't worry too much about it. Chances are every chunk of data you send/receive over the network goes through a server that will report you if something like that comes up. Wait a few weeks, and if nothing happens I would forget about it.As always, be careful with those "interesting" e-mails ;)

How Come Some Games Seem To Run Slower At Low Resolutions?
2007-04-26 16:50:00
Question:I have a few first person shooters that almost seem like they run faster at high resolutions and slower at low resolutions. Why is that?Answer:This is one of those things I can't answer, but I do know what you are talking about. Heck, Quake 4 seems to run faster at 1024*768 than 640*480 on my computer for some bizarre reason, even when leaving everything else untouched. I think it is mostly just our mind and eyes playing tricks on us.At low resolutions objects tend to be a lot more jaggity, and some animations may seem jumpy because of that. Then again, I still play Halo CE quite often. I tested it at 640*480 and 1024*768 once, and it only ran about 2 frames per second slower at the higher res, but it seemed like the high res ran much faster and was much smoother. The same is true with Warcraft 3, I have to run it at least at1024*768, anything lower runs much much slower.Maybe some monitors and video cards just can't handle low reses as well as we'd like, so they appear to ru

2007-04-24 00:54:00
Question:What is the best Mac OS X web browser ?Answer:Well this is a pretty subjective question... Anyway, I use Safari (which comes preinstalled) for 99% of my surfing. I use Firefox for other sites that won't load for some reason or other. Camino is also a nice choice, it has a much more "mac" feel to it than Firefox.

What's The Best Way To Clean Out An Optical Mouse?
2007-06-13 12:55:00
What's The Best Way To Clean Out An Optical Mouse ?Well, the best way I have found is to grab a drinking straw and lightly blow on it. If you have a small can of compressed air that would also work, just make sure it isn't too powerful. If you need to take apart the mouse the screws will usually be under the little pads, but that shouldn't be necessary.Just whatever you do, do not use any type of cloth that may scratch or leave lint behind as it can damage the mouse.

Is Microsoft FrontPage A Good Choice For A Website Builder?
2007-07-10 15:23:00
Question:Is Microsoft FrontPage A Good Choice For A Website Builder ?Answer:It depends on what you are doing. If you are doing a simple site with just a few pages (personal site) then it is fine, but for anything more than that I would recommend getting a better tool and using a content management system, which instead of loading data from files will load data from a database.

Is There Any Way To Speed Up Virtual Memory in XP?
2007-08-04 00:57:00
Question: I was just wondering if there was any way to speed up virtual memory in XP. Answer: The best way I've found is to set a custom size for the memory and to get a faster HD. Oh and get more RAM, that way you don't need to use Virtual Memory all the time. A faster HD for obvious reasons, that is what is used for virtual memory. And it is pretty easy to set a custom size, just right

Answer: RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a way of collecting a feed from news sites and blogs and getting them through a RSS reader, instead of visiting each individual site. This makes life much easier for those of us that read hundreds of sites a day. The RSS reader I like is Google Reader. It has a nice design, and works

How does the RIAA know who stole music?
2007-08-04 13:45:00
Question: How is it the RIAA can find out who stole music? Answer: The RIAA really doesn't know, that is why this whole anti-piracy thing is so controversial. They use IP addresses (which can change quite often, depending who provides your Internet connection) as proof that someone did the crime. In reality it is incredibly easy to spoof IP addresses with a single program, so it is about as
