Well I Am One Truly Blessed Woman! 2007-07-23 15:29:00 I just had to update everyone. In case you didn't read the comments to my last post, I just wanted to let everyone know: I'M GOING TO SPIRIT WEST COAST!!! Yeah!!! The Lord answered my prayer. (I say this because I don't believe anything happens by chance or luck.) Anyway, I had to share that because I am so blessed!! :) :) :) :) Also, because of this, from Aug 1-4, I may or may not be able to post. It depends on whether I can get a wireless access signal while I'm there. Who knows, I may just decide to leave my laptop behind and spend time exclusively with my kids, worshipping the Lord. Somehow, I think He'd be ok with that, and hopefully you are too. :) Gotta go now. Got plans to make, and camping gear to air out. Only 9 days to go!! Subscribe in a reader

Why Do We Love Money? by Shalene 2007-07-23 11:20:00 I wrote a post on Freedom In The Spirit today on the Roots of All Kinds of evil. We know what that is, right? Love of Money
. We've all heard that saying that "Money is the root of all evil." Well that's not entirely correct. It is the "love of money" that is "the root of all evil." 1 Timothy 6:10 NKJV (emphasis on "love of")How does a love of money cause evil? Well Paul states in 1 Timothy 6:9 "But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition." and in 1 Timothy 6:10 "...which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."I have experienced this recently on a small scale, because I do try not to have a love of money and material things. The operative word being try. I do have a nice house, we are a two car family, we have plenty of clothes (much more than we need) and plenty of food. The necessary food and clothing a
Thorns in the Flesh by Shalene 2007-07-21 10:26:00 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 NKJVPaul never does say exactly what the thorn in his flesh is, but we know that he takes pleasure in it. Despite the fact that he most certainly wished that he was not afflicted thus. I too have been given a thorn of the flesh. Mine is depression. Some days it is very hard for me to take pleasure in anything.I was diagnosed with my "th Read more:Thorns

Caution: Schmoozer Sightings Reported in the Area! 2007-07-19 14:01:00 I have been given what some might consider the dubious honor of being dubbed an Award Winning Schmoozer. I choose to see this as a high honor indeed. “The Power of Schmooze” award was created by Mike at Ordinary Folk and Danielle at Pink Reviews to help “recognize those people that were [are] exceptionally adept at creating relationships with other bloggers by making an effort to be part of a conversation, as opposed to monologue.”The rules: If, and only if, you get The Power of Schmooze Award, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think, or have schmoozed you into submission. Link to this post and Mike so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme Optional: Proudly display the ‘The Power of Schmooze Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote. This award was passed to me by Beverly of Perpetual Expressions. I am honored and humbled that she thinks me such a great schmoozer. :) I do think of this as an honor. The Best Blessing by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-18 08:29:00 To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities. Acts 3:26 NKJVOn November 13, 2004, my mother passed away suddenly of a heart attack in her sleep. She was 48 years old, and looked healthier than she had in years. (She had suffered through cancer, physical abuse, a gastric bypass and reversal- due to malnutrition, along with a host of other things.) Her passing devastated me. I was not yet a believer in my Lord. My mother and I had a love/ hate relationship for most of my life, but we were beginning to be friends when she died. In fact, I thank the Lord that the day before her death, she spent the day at my house playing with my kids and visiting with me. That in itself was a blessing, but not the one I want to talk to you about.I spent the next three weeks in a grief induced daze. I became depressed and anxious; unable to sleep and unable to eat. I became a hollow eyed, skeleton of myself. But
Why Temptations? by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-17 09:21:00 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. James 1:12-14 NKJVSatan desires that we should fall away from the hope that God has given us. He does so with lies and half truths. He offers us that which we think we want, and when we accept it, and have sinned in the process, he drags us down with guilt and lies about our continued salvation. He does not want us to continue to glorify the Lord. Because in so doing, we may just reach another who needs to hear that we all fall short of His glory.Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The Spirit is willing but the body is weak. Matthew 26:41 (emphasis mine)Why do we believe the deceiver's lies?Because he Read more:Temptations
What Are We Saved For? by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-16 10:54:00 Well, here's the short answer. We are saved for the same reason we were created. For fellowship and a relationship with God. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. Psalm 148:5The creation of man is the ultimate manifestation of love. Love must be expressed towards another to be love. Because of this, God created man in his image to love and be with. Much the same that parents do when they make a choice to have a child. They create a child to love, and show love to.However, God does not want us to be his slaves, or to hollowly obey Him. He wants us to do it because we choose to. This is the reason (in my opinion) that God placed the Tree of Knowledge into the Garden in the first place. He desires that we have free will to choose to love Him and obey Him.Because Adam and Eve, and most of the rest of us humans were, and are, unable to do this consistently, we needed a savior that could cover our sins, and make us able to be in the presenc

Saved From Trials? by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-14 09:16:00 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4 NKJV As you can clearly see from the above verses, we as true believers are NOT saved from trials. In fact, we are called to count them as blessings. For they produce patience within us. Too many times when we become believers, we think that being a believer means that our life will be easy. That God, because he has promised to provide everything we need, that we will have it all, and we shouldn't have to endure any more seasons of tears and frustration. Don't let the deceiver convince you of these lies!God has promised to provide every thing we need, not everything we want. And what He knows we need, and what we think we need, are very seldom the same thing. Yes, sometimes He blesses us beyond what we need. But other times He does not. He will use Read more:Trials
Saved From Judgement?? by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-13 09:04:00 I read my post to my husband yesterday, and afterward, a lively discussion on whether or not we are saved from Judgement ensued. I will not say which of us took which side, but I will say that we did not seem to be in agreement. So I have studied this subject in particular, so that I might keep you from having the same discussion. (Though it was lively, and it was loving, and it is always enjoyable to discuss scripture with my wonderful husband.)Now on to the post: There are some that believe that because we have accepted Christ that we are now somehow saved from Judgement by God. This is not what the bible tells us. Let me say that again. This is not what the bible tells us.For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things [done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV (emphasis mine)Did you catch that? We must all appear before the judgement seat. This is the reason th

What Are We Saved From? by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-12 10:19:00 Oh that's easy you say. "We're saved from eternal damnation." Yes, that's true, but we are also saved from Death. We that are true believers and Christ followers believe ourselves to be saved, not only from eternal damnation, but also from Death. I'm not talking a physical death. Though, if Christ should return today, those of us (true believers) alive today would certainly be spared a physical death. You see, Satan is not the opposite of God. Death is. That is why Jesus was required to conquer Death by His resurrection. This is illustrated in Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, "Fear not; I am the First and the Last. I am He that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of hell and of death. (emphasis mine)And then in Revelation 2:7 (NLT) we learn that "Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the chu
Is Salvation Forever?? by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-11 11:48:00 Yesterday, I became excited about a thought that I had, and in so doing, took some scripture out of context to support my mindset. I did not do it purposefully, but as it turns out, my posting was not entirely correct. The part I was excited about was not correct, anyway. You see, my father is not a believer. He was as a child a "believer" inasmuch as he went to church and I assume, went through the motions. I was excited by the fact that we as true believers cannot have our salvation taken away from us. However, the operative words here are "true believers." I initially interpreted this to mean that if my father was a sincere believer as a child, then his salvation was still his. Unfortunately, this cannot be the case. There is but one unpardonable sin. That is rejection of God. Not because He can't pardon it, but because those that reject Him, won't let Him, simply because of their rejection. It just so happened that I got a devotional today that helped me to understand Read more:Forever

Salvation is Forever? by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-10 10:25:00 Jesus answered them, "I told you, and ye believed not. The works that I do in My Father's name, they bear witness of Me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of My sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me. And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, who gave them to Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one." The Good News by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-09 10:44:00 I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ. Galatians 1:6-7 (NLT) Now this will be a controversial post for some, but I press on nonetheless. Those of us that believe the Bible to be the only infallible Word of God, know which groups, that call themselves Christian, do this. I won't name them. That's not my place. However I will say this: Paul was preaching to the church in Galatia because they were beginning to preach that salvation through acceptance of Christ as savior, was not in itself enough. That doctrine and practices of the Jews must also be accomplished in order for salvation to occur. This is just not correct. In fact, Paul goes on to say in Galations 1:8-10 (NLT) "Let God's curse fall on anyone, including us or
Faith as Our Foundation In Him by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-08 02:18:00 Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents, and the floodwaters rise and winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it was built on bedrock. Matthew 7:24 (NLT)While on vacation from the heat and crowds this weekend, my husband and five year old daughter built a house out of cardboard. They built it on solid rock, but somehow, I don’t think it will stand the test of time. However, for those of us that make Jesus our foundation, our house is our faith, and it will not falter. Our lives become the house that everyone wants to visit, because they sense something wonderful is inside. Have you built your house on the solid foundation of the Lord? If not, are you willing to get into the Word and replace that faulty foundation? I am learning more and more everyday just being in the Word. I was not a faithful reader of my bible before I began writing these posts. And when Read more:Faith

Friend to Friend 2007-07-06 10:13:00 I am on vacation, so please enjoy this devotion sent to me by a friend. It is moving in it's message.Today’s truth“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’” Matthew 9:37 (NIV) Friend to FriendI knew something strange was going on when I couldn’t find my seat. After combing the isles of the Delta airplane two times, seat assignment in hand, I was convinced I had lost my mind. Was I on the wrong plane? Would I wind up in China, rather than Florida? Would a voice announce over the intercom, “You have now entered the twilight zone?”Embarrassed that someone who flies as often as I do was not capable of finding her seat, I quietly asked the stewardess for assistance. “No wonder you can’t find your seat,” she replied after studying my ticket. “Your seat is in first class, not back here.” I assured her there must be some mistake, as I would n
Answering Questions by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-05 10:41:00 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect" 1 Peter 3:15 Do you set apart Christ as Lord in your life? Has anyone asked you "What is it about you?" And have you answered unwaveringly that is is the Lord working in your life? Have you done it without pushing the envelope? In today's society, unfortunately, many have been "turned off" by Christianity and all they think it stands for. Because of this, we have to be mindful of our delivery. This is such a hard thing to do, especially when you are on fire for the Lord.Have you ever wondered what it is that people see in us, as true believers that makes them want what we have? I can't be so dense as to believe that it's all about the material things. Because I've met some people in my life that just radiated the love of God from every ounce of their being, and didn't have much in th
The Infallible Word of God By Shalene Kearney 2007-07-03 10:05:00 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17Yesterday was a wonderful day! I ended my day in tears of happiness, because I had received so many compliments and words of encouragement regarding my self as a person and my writing. It was almost enough to make a person's head swell. "Almost" being the operative word. I have always loved to write, and have always thought it would be great to get my writing published somewhere. (I guess I've realized that dream, right here.) :) However, I must give credit where credit is due. I am who I am, because of the work of the Holy Spirit in my life. A few short years ago, this person you're getting to know, didn't exist. Oh, I was nice enough (most of the time) but I was not compassionate, and willing to s
This Is The Day by Shalene Kearney 2007-07-02 10:32:00 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24I hear this psalm first thing every morning when I wake up, and I think "HAH! What if I don't want to rejoice? It is morning after all. I am not a morning person!" But the verse plays over and over in my head until I speak the words out loud. And then something miraculous happens. Though I'd still love to be asleep, I have now acknowledged that the Lord has indeed made another day for me, and I can do nothing but be glad in it. Oh I know that the day may not be especially great, or that I may not like something that is likely to happen at some point in the day, but how can I not rejoice that the Lord has given me one more day with my children and my family.I can rejoice that the sun is shining for another day; I can rejoice that I have the opportunity to reach out to others in Christ's name; I can rejoice that I am simply alive. I am aware that there are those that have a hard time with rejoi
A Study of The Rapture Part 2 by Shalene 2007-07-26 09:24:00 I received some great comments yesterday, and wanted to touch on them for a moment. First, though I have a lot of questions about the Rapture
, I don't expect that every one of them will be answerable while I am still alive. My questions are only those which, in a perfect world, would be answered. Does this make sense? I have a VERY inquisitive mind, so if I can learn the answers to something, I'll do my best to do so. I do understand that for some of my questions, my faith that it is so, will have to suffice. May God grant me the wisdom to know when to "let go of the bone." Second, I do believe in the Rapture. I do not believe it has happened yet. I believe the Bible is literal not interpretive. I have hope that those that have questions about the Rapture will travel this study with me, and if they don't agree, they're free to do so. I'm not here trying to change anyone's mind about the Rapture; though if it happens, I won't complain. :) Now on to the post. What about the dead?Bu Read more:Study
A Study of the Rapture Part 1 by Shalene 2007-07-24 22:28:00 What does "Rapture
" mean? The teaching of the rapture is most clearly presented by Paul in the first books and Thessalonians and Corinthians: "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." (1 Thes. 4:16-18). Rapture critics like to claim that the word "rapture" is not located in the Bible. It may not be in the King James, but the word "rapture" is found in the Bible, if you have the Latin Vulgate produced by Jerome in the early 400s. The Vulgate was the main Bible of the medieval Western Church until the Reformation. It continues to this day as the primary Latin translation of the Roman Catholic Church. It was Protestants who introduced the word "rapture" into the English Read more:Study
All Joking About the Rapture Aside... 2007-07-24 10:40:00 Dear Readers, if you were here earlier and read my post, I have to take a moment and apologize to you. I found the blog that I earlier referenced to be funny because I thought it poked fun, in a nice way, at those that seem to think they can predict when Jesus will come again. However, after reading further, I have found that the entire blog has some VERY flawed ideas that just do not jive with what I believe, so I have deleted reference to it. If you read the comments, I urge you, do not click on the link to the blog that is shown within. As you know, I publish comments whether I agree with them or not, so long as they are not offensive in their language or just plain mean. If you believe the bible to be the only infallible Word of God, you will not like this blog.Having said that, I think I'll address the Rapture
myself. I'll be quite honest with you though, I am still studying the subject, so this post will not be complete in knowledge, but I will take the subject up again Read more:Joking

The Rapture Part 3 2007-07-28 11:35:00 The TribulationWhat exactly is the tribulation? The word "tribulation," used as a prophetic term, comes from Jesus' Olivet discourse, during which He laid out the future course of human history all the way to its climax at His Second Coming. The Lord said, in response to His disciples’ question, "What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?""For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be" (Matt. 24:21)."Tribulation" is the term for the general era of God's judgment on a rebellious world of earth-dwellers. It is a time that will begin with Antichrist signing a seven-year covenant guaranteeing Israel's peace and security (Dan. 9:27). This era is kicked off, symbolically, beginning with the first horseman of the Apocalypse (Rev. 6:1). "Great Tribulation" is considered to be the last three and one-half years of that seven-year period known as "Daniel's seventieth week." The last three and Read more:Rapture
