I've Got Marriage on My Mind by Shalene
2007-08-29 09:20:00
In my efforts to be ready for the marriage of my friend and her fiance, I must admit that I'm thinking about marriage quite a bit. I'm thinking about the fact that Christian divorce rates are actually, in come cases, higher than that of non-Christians! I'm thinking that there must be something that we're not remembering. I'm thinking about my own marriage and how blessed we are to have such a strong marriage, seven years after we met, especially with the way it started out.My husband and I were not believers when we met. My divorce from my first spouse was not even final yet (we had only been separated for a year.) My husband's (to- be) divorce was not final yet either. And yet, we began a relationship that included premarital sex. We had a child together out of wedlock, and we lived together before marriage. Now add all those together with the simple fact that it was to be a second marriage for both of us, and it would seem that it was doomed from the start. And it could have be

A Blessed Marriage by Shalene
2007-08-28 09:17:00
"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." Ephesians 5:31NKJV Some of you know from reading my post "The Blind Leading the Blind" that I am now an ordained minister. You would also know then, that I had no intention of using the titles that go along with that. However, aside from curiosity about how easy it would be to do, I was intrigued by the thought of being able to minister to people that I wouldn't ordinarily be able to reach because of restrictions to their access. Such as prisoners, and hospital patients that I am not related to. I also kind of liked the idea of maybe being allowed to marry people. But I hadn't pursued that at all- until yesterday. You see, I have a very good friend that I was blessed to bring to the Lord a couple years ago. She has since moved to Oregon, but has become stronger in her faith. I like to think that part of that is my influence. (So I've got a little bit of a b

Becoming a Titus 2 Woman by Shalene

the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things-- that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5 NKJV On Friday, I left you with requests for your prayers and for the hope that I would continue to write my inspirational thoughts for all to read. Well, today, I'm back to say that after much thought, prayer, and discussion, I here and I'm staying, until I'm led by God to quit. That moment has not come. Yeah!!!!What I have learned this weekend is that it is not an all or nothing endeavor that I employ. I have learned that I must adjust to my roles in both my home life and my writing, and the ministry that my writing is to be. I also must adjust the amount of time I spend "visiting" others. My entire life, I will be striving towards Proverbs 3

It Sounded Like a Good Idea by Shalene
2007-09-01 15:46:00
Taking the last long weekend of the summer to go camping with my two youngest children and my husband sounded like a good idea. It sounded like a really good idea when my husband suggested it. Getting out of the 110 degree heat, having some quality family time, and communing with nature sounded like so much fun! We used to do it all the time, but have since quit doing it so much, and I missed it.So, I scrambled around for 3 hours getting all our camping gear together, clothes and food for the weekend, and even packed a little extra in case we wanted to stay more than one night. I had such high hopes. I didn't bother with the play yard, for the baby to sleep in, because I figured she would just sleep with us anyway, and I'd do just like I did at SWC when it came time for bed. It sounded like such a good idea.I did take all four children to SWC with me at the beginning of August and it all worked out ok. Even my youngest's unnatural affinity for her crib worked out. (She will be two i

For Our Fallen Heroes by Shalene

Tim McGraw- "If You're Reading This"My husband shared this video with me last night, and it made me cry. It made me cry for all those families that won't see their sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers and mothers come home, because they've gone Home. I wanted to take a moment and honor those souls that fight for our freedoms. Now, I have a lot of feelings about war. I would prefer to pretend it didn't exist, honestly. I would prefer to forget that we're in the midst of one. I don't watch the news, and generally steer clear of anything that might be remotely negative. I'm a bit of an ostrich that way. (You know, sticking my head in the sand.) My eldest daughter told me a couple years ago that she wanted to be in the armed forces and I became sick with dread! How much more so must those other mothers and wives feel when their family members join. And yet they are proud of what they are doing. I may not like to think about it, but I am proud of them too. We have a u

Joyful Authenticity by Shalene
2007-08-30 10:33:00
When I began writing and attempting to minister to others through my website and blogs, it was because of the leading of the Holy Spirit. I was led to share my life and my life experiences in a way that would glorify the Lord, and Him alone. I do this by being authentic and transparent in my writings. I share anything about myself, without fear of condemnation. It does not take courage on my part, because I have faith that the Lord has forgiven all my sins, and is shaping me into the person I am to become. He has also used my past to shape me into who I am today. I belong to the most wonderful church- Clovis Hills. Part of their philosophy is to live in Joyful Authenticity ."Healthy things grow. They are fed, pruned, bear fruit and experience a harvest. If they don’t, they wither, shrink and eventually die. Our spiritual lives are no different. They don’t just grow on their own, they have to be nurtured, cared for and invested in.God desires to transform our lives into reflections o

God Is Our Provision by Shalene
2007-09-22 11:49:00
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 KJV I have discovered something recently, that I don't know how I managed to miss in all this time. That is: the concept of "daily bread". I never really got what this meant. Now, for a little background: some of you know that I grew up in a household that was Catholic, and did learn some of the prayers that went along with that practice, and learned how to say my rosaries, and everything. However, it was always by rote, that I said them. They meant nothing. I did not realize that one of the prayers- the Lord's Prayer, was something that was actually in the Bible. I also did not know that "bread" did

Awards and Such
2007-09-22 11:10:00
Hello All,I am going to post right now about an award I received from Leeann from The World Through The Eyes of Me. I thank you very much for this award Leeann, and I am extremely humbled by it. However, I must say. I'm becoming a little embarrassed by all the awards on my blog and all the posts I've written about them. This blog was never intended for my glory, but for His, so therefore, though I am grateful for the award, I am not going to post it on my blog, outside of this post, nor am I going to pass it on. There are so many people that make me smile, that it just wouldn't be fair to all the others that I can't pass it on to. Also, I wonder if there aren't others that may feel the same way I do about displaying awards on their blogs as well. Thank you everyone for the awards that you have given me, and please dont' think me ungrateful. I just want to get back to the purpose of this blog. Blessings to you. May the peace of the Lord be upon you. Forever In Him, Sha

Christian/ Muslim What's the Difference? by Shalene
2007-09-21 09:58:00
Have you ever wondered just what it is that separates the Islamic religion from Christian ity? I have; especially lately. I have been wondering about this lately, because I have a friend that is Christian, but her husband is Muslim . We were talking one day about the difficulties that presents for their marriage. I cannot begin to fathom having a mixed- belief marriage, and one that seems so at odds with one another. So I have been doing some research on the subject. I still am, by far, quite ignorant about the Muslim religion, but here are some things I have learned.I learned a while back that the origins of both "races"- Jews and Muslims came from the same man. Father Abraham. That the Jews were, as we know descended from Isaac. And the Muslims (Meccans) were descended from Ishmael. What makes this so interesting to me, is that I place myself in the proverbial shoes of Ishmael, and think about his lot in life. For thirteen years, he is thought of as the heir to all the promises that we

What My Husband Did by Shalene
2007-09-20 10:09:00
There are many days when I wonder what I ever did to deserve such a perfect mate for me. I am amazed daily at the plans God has for my life, and how He goes about setting them in motion. Yesterday was just such a day. My husband did something that I NEVER would have expected him to do, and yet by doing it, he showed me just how much he loves me.What did he do, you ask? He started a blog. Yes that what I said. He started a blog. Why does that show his love for me? Well to know the full reason, you would have had to have been a fly on the wall in our home since May. Let's just say that my blogging and website have not always been welcome additions to our lives. We have worked through our differences regarding them, for the most part. However, my husband was getting the impression that I had a whole other "life" that was part of what I did online. And to a certain extent, he was right. Most of my "friends" are now online, and he knows very few of them. I talk to them someti

An Awesome Responsibility by Shalene
2007-09-19 10:24:00
Have you ever stopped and thought about the awesome responsibility the God places upon your shoulders the moment you are blessed with a child? While it is so true that children are a blessing from the Lord, there is really only one reason why it can be considered such a blessing. It is a blessing because through the birth of our own children, can we get just the slightest inkling of His divine love for us, as His children. Think about it. What are just some of HIS many names?El Shaddai: The CaregiverJehovah-Jireh: Jehovah will provideJehovah-Shamma: The Lord is PresentGod is our eternal Father, and gives us our blueprint and instruction for being parents, ourselves. How many people have you met that had their own faith influenced by the love and treatment of their own parents- negative or positive? Today my prayer is that I am even a fraction of the parent that He is. These are the scriptures that I will be meditating on (again) throughout this pregnancy. Blessed be the God and

Strange Things Are Happening by Shalene
2007-09-18 15:25:00
Pregnancy doesn't just wreak havoc with your body and your hormones, but it also plays funny games with your mind. Anyone that has been there knows this to be true. You have the strangest dreams, and while you're awake, you seem to lose all coherent thought for most of the day. This is showing itself to be true for me already. I fell asleep last night composing a post and/ or article for me to place in the Women's Ministry newsletter for my church (and I seem to recall that it was a good one), but I didn't write it down- trusting that I would remember what I wanted to write in the morning. That didn't happen. Instead, the only 2 thoughts in my head when I woke up were: Focus on the Positive (a song but I can't remember the name of the singer I'm thinking of) and the Scarlet Pimpernel. Don't ask me how they are related, because I REALLY don't know. I'm laughing as I type this, because it is just SO strange! It has been forever since I watched the Scarlet Pimpernel- pr

What Is A Disciple? by Shalene
2007-09-18 14:38:00
What exactly does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? Does it mean to merely share the Word of God, or does it mean to share God with others? Simply put, to me, being a disciple of Christ means to not only lead other to Him, but to help others to lead even more "others" to Him. Yes, it is part of the Great Commission- Jesus' last instruction to us to share the Good News with all. Therefore, I take my role in this instruction very seriously. Because of this, I am beyond humbled to have been one of the first recipients of a brand new award being passed out. It is the "Mathetes Award", created by Dan King of Management by God to recognize those who take to heart the Great Commission and further God's Kingdom by creating more disciples for Him. According to Dan (and I trust him on this) mathetes is the Greek word for disciple. The rules for the award, as posted by it's creator are as follows:In the spirit of this award, the rules are simple. Winners of this award must pick five o

Thinking of Girls' Names
2007-09-17 14:41:00
Yes, it's a bit early to be thinking of names, I mean, come on! I am only 1 month pregnant, but we're doing it anyway. Then of course there's the fact that I'll probably change my mind 10 times before the baby's born. We already know what we'll name the baby if it's a boy, so no problems there. But a girl, well that's the fun part. I like unusual names. My husband likes to make up unusual names. So out of the four children we already have, only one has a very common name, and the other three have uncommon, if not unheard of, names. I like it that way, since mine is unusual as well. Here are some of the names that I've come across, and thought I'd put it to you readers. What names do you like? (I'm including what the names mean if I know.)Aislinn-"a dream, a vision, inspirition"Quinn- "wise, queen, 5th born"Aithne-"little fire"Caoimhe-"gentleness, beauty, grace"Shyla-"loyal to God, strong"Ariene-"silvery"I used to like Rhiannon, until I found out it meant "witch." My Quiver is Full by Shalene
2007-09-15 10:34:00
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,The fruit of the womb is a reward.Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,So are the children of one's youth.Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed,But shall speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5 NKJVPraise Him with me! He has blessed us again, and my quiver is full. We are having baby #5! Hallelujah! I am undeserving of this blessing, but I will strive each day to bring this child up in love for the Lord. I dedicate this baby to You, my Lord. I thank you that you bless me time and time again.I ask for your prayers, readers, as my pregnancies are not easy, and the last two have been born prematurely. I ask that you pray for my health, and the health of this blessing from the Lord. I thank those of you that prayed for this blessing along with me.Lord, I cannot say it enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are wonderful, and Your blessings numerous upon me. There is no "MORE" to this post.

Choosing This Day by Shalene
2007-09-14 09:39:00
...choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15 NKJV (emphasis mine) In the days of Noah, there was sin rampant on the earth. (Genesis 6:5) Only Noah was found to be righteous. (Genesis 6:8) Why is that? Because he walked with God. (Genesis 6:9) What does it mean then, to "walk with God"? It means to choose every day, every moment to be in continued communion with God. Nelson's NKJV Study Bible describes this verb halak as having connotations "of a habitual manner of life or a constant relationship with God."I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galations 5:16 NKJVHe who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 1 John 2:6 NKJV How then can we be righteous in the eyes of the Lord? By walking with Him continual

The Monster Named "Rape" written by Shalene
2007-09-12 10:48:00
Today I am grieving for my friend. I found out yesterday that she had been raped by someone she knew and trusted. It was not a date rape- they were supposed to have a strictly professional relationship. Much like a doctor- patient relationship. She called me yesterday and told me the "Reader's Digest Version" and she is still hurting very much. She is afraid to go home (he knows where she lives), she is afraid to answer her own phone (afraid he will call.) It reminds me of what pedophiles do to the children they assault. I am so saddened for her.I have never been the victim of rape, but let's just say I have a unique understanding of something of what she is going through. I am happy to say there are a few blessings that have come from this, despite the fact that one would think none could come from it. One, she is aware that this happened to her body, not her soul, and that she can use this horrible experience as her testimony to the comforts and the glory of the Lord. Two
