St. Louis Rams (8-8) 1970-01-01 00:59:59 2006 season: 8-8Head Coach: Scott LinehanOffensive Coordinator: Greg OlsonDefensive Coordinator: Jim HaslettPro-Bowl: Torry Holt(WR), Marc Bulger(QB) and Steven Jackson(RB)OffenseThe Ram's offense is led by one of the most explosive trio's in a long time. With the most underrated quarterback, Marc Bulger, the beast at running back, Steven Jackson and the best route runner in the game, Torry Holt. Jackson had a great season rushing for 1,528 yards and 13 touchdowns, he also caught 90 balls for 806 yards and 3 touchdowns. Marc Bulger had by far his best season of his career throwing for over 4300 yards, 24 touchdowns and just 8 interception. Holt had once again a very impressive season, grabbing 93 receptions for 1,188 yards and 10 touchdowns. Also Isaac Bruce had a very quite 1,000 receiving yard season. The only real problem with the Ram's offense was the offensive line, they couldn't stay healthy. They lost Pro-Bowler Orlando Pace and Andy McCollum. If the O-Line can stay healthy Read more:Louis
Take that Coral Gables...Hokies improve to 3-0 this season. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Now i'm not usually one to brag, but my Hokies
have beaten Davey's Cane's 3 times this season. Twice in basketball and once in football. Led by Zabian "Ultra Super Secret Ninja" Dowdell's 20 points, Virginia Tech improved to 20-8 after they beat Miami, 73-57 Saturday night. This is the Hokies first 20 win season in 11 years(23-6 back in 1996) and it has clinched them a first round bye in the ACC Tournament. Our terrific back court tandem, Dowdell and Jamon Gordon had Miami's Denis Clemente, who led the Cane's with 20 points of his own, admiring their play saying "I'm trying to learn from these people". It's ok Denis, I'm sure with lots of practice and praying, one day you'll be good enough to at least hold Dowdell's jock strap. The Cane's bench did out score the Hokies bench, 18-2, but all VTech's starters were in double figures. Dowdell led the team with 20 points and 8 rebounds, he also chipped in with 4 assists and 3 steals. Gordon had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and Read more:Coral
Looking ahead to the draft 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I'll come out and say this very abruptly. I never liked Brady Quinn. There was just something about him during his time at Notre Dame that made we want to throw him in a pit full of angry, extremist Grizzly bears. But as draft day comes closer and closer and everyone keeps projecting Quinn falling into Miami's lap, I'll admit, I'm liking this.We all know by know that Quinn will be the 2nd quarterback chosen in the draft. Even though he's currently more prepared for the pro game than JaMarcus Russell, Russell's ability to throw the ball to Neptune while lying on his back will probably make him not only the first qb taken, but also the first player taken overall.Miami picks 9th overall, and even though there are 5 "qb needy" teams picking in front of them, you'd figure that with some luck Quinn would probably still be there. (Note how I casually used the term "qb needy").Quinn played in Charlie Weis' pro-style offense, and could probably be the best quarterback in South Florida s Read more:ahead
Fun with fantasy basketball 2007-03-03 04:00:00 My failures in fantasy
football have been well documented. Remember now, I'm the guy that drafted Daunte Culpepper AND Edgerrin James, traded away Chad Johnson and kept Lee Evans on the bench when he rode the Texans secondary like a rodeo horse. The result of those great moves (and many others) resulted in anal bleeding and ridicule that still follows me to this day. The funny thing is however, that I'm actually oozing greatness from by basketball leagues, besides the fact that I'm implementing Matt Millenesque strategies.I'm currently tea-bagging Jay in our league, while holding steady in 3rd place of our Braves Journal League. If you're wondering how I manage to piss excellence like this on a daily level, I got some answers for you right here.1. Forget to set line-ups.This one has happened plenty of times. I'm usually too busy wrestling Chinese Panda bears that I forget to set my line-ups. Many a good effort by Gilbert Arenas have been wasted but hey, I'm somehow still seeding
Joe Thomas to the Lions is not a sure thing 2007-03-03 03:58:00 Yesterday I rambled on and on how Miami could land Brady Quinn, but now I'm not so sure. The Detroit Lions
and Denver Broncos pulled a trade off today which might change how things go down in the draft.Detroit got Tatum Bell and George Foster from Denver while the Lions sent Dre' Bly to the Broncos. It's a good trade that made sense for both teams. Detroit needed a running back now that Kevin Jones is hurt and when Jones comes back, he and Bell can split the load. The Lions also needed an offensive tackle opposite Jeff Backus and Foster might be able to fill that role.Denver on the other hand gets one of the best cover corners in the league in Bly and get to pair him opposite THE best corner, Champ Bailey. With the tragic death of Darrent Williams, Denver suddenly had a need for a defensive back and filled it quite nicely today. And giving up Bell is probably not a big deal because even I ran for a 1000 yards in Denver's system. (No I didn't. I had a fumbling problem and landed in Read more:Thomas

Big Names getting Big Deals. 2007-03-04 04:14:00 Nate Clements signs historic contract with the Niners.Highly touted cornerback, Nate Clements, has agreed to the highest contract for a defensive player in NFL history. The San Francisco 49ers addressed one of their biggest needs in signing Clements to an 8-year $80 million contract Friday. He is also receiving $22 million of his deal guaranteed. Clements was atop of many people's "Top FA" lists(including mine) because he is in the prime of his career, being only 27, he has great size for a corner, great tackler and has a nose for the ball. In order for him to show that he's is worth it, Clements is going to have to be a dominant shut down corner. Which Clements is more than capable of. San Francisco is expected to add at least 7 new starters on defense including safety an Philadelphia Eagle, Michael Lewis, and former Dolphin linebacker, Donnie Spragan on Saturday to name a few. They are already approaching the $100 million plateau with their signings thus far.The Bills sign 3 on the Read more:Names

The Braves take out the Pirates in extras. 2007-03-04 04:13:00 Martin Prado provided the extra inning heroics today with a RBI on a fielder's choice. John Smoltz oozed a mixture of awesomeness and dominance that would make Nolan Ryan shed a tear. Smoltz pitched 2 innings, gave up only one hit and struck out 3. Also making their first appearances for the Braves
this pre-season were newly acquired Mike Gonzalez who had some rust, he pitched 1 inning and gave up a two-run homer in the 6th inning but he did have a strike out, Bob Wickman who also pitched one inning gave up no runs but did allow a couple of hits and Oscar Villarreal who gave up a homer in the 7th and struck out 2 batters. At the plate, the Braves received the fireworks from Jeff Francoeur in the 5th inning courtesy to a solo bomb that at the time tied the game at one run a piece. Martin provided 2 RBI's including like I mentioned earlier, the game winner and James Jurries and Iker Franco each supplied an RBI.Pirates

John Clayton's phone is ringing. 2007-03-04 04:13:00 ESPN's John Clayton
is reporting that the San Francisco 49er's are close to signing cornerback, Nate Clements. The niners are really in need of adding depth to their secondary and signing Clements could really go along way to restoring their niner's swagger.Othe moves Clayton is reporting:The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a deal with Ovie Mughelli that would make him the highest paid fullback in the NFL. The deal is said to be worth $18M over 6 years. The Jacksonville Jaguars and right tackle, Tony Pashos. The Jag's also re-signed their kicker Josh Scobee for a 5-year deal. The New England Patriots have released runningback Corey Dillon at his request. Dillon originally said that he was considering retirement, but I don't think anyone really bought that. I believe that he just wants one more shot at starting before he calls it a career. More Breaking News: Plummer traded to the Bucs. 2007-03-04 04:12:00 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Denver Broncos have agreed to a deal that would send veteran quarterback, Jake Plummer
to the Bucs for a 4th round pick in this years draft. The Buccaneers have been looking for someone that could back-up Chris Simms and if he isn't ready to go, start in his place. After Mike Shanahan benched Plummer in favor of rookie Jay Cutler last season it has been reported that Plummer has been looking to be traded or released so he could have the opportunity to start else where. Look for the Bronco's to look to sign Jeff Garcia to back up Cutler now.Bonus Pic time:Update: The "stache" (NFL version) may not be heading to Florida after all, the trade between the Broncos and Buccaneers is currently on hold after Jake Plummer said " I may just retire". Free-Agency is now open. 2007-03-04 04:11:00 Top 15 unrestricted free-agents1. Nate Clements CB (BUF)Clements is widely regarded as the top FA this year. This is one of the few times a top corner in his prime hits the free-agent market and you can bet that a lot of teams are going to be looking to add him.Projected: TennesseeDarkhorse: Cleveland2. Adalius Thomas OLB (BAL)The best hybrid linebacker in the NFL, he can played nearly every position on the 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. Breaking News: Dre' Bly traded to the Broncos. 2007-03-04 04:11:00 In a move that seemingly helps both teams out, the Lions have traded cornerback Dre' Bly to the Denver Broncos for runningback Tatum Bell and offensive tackle George Foster. The deal actually makes a lot of sense for both teams, the Broncos have been searching for a replacement for Darrent Williams who was murdered a few months ago and the Lions upgraded their poor offensive line and added depth at runningback. The Lion's starter, Kevin Jones will most likely miss the start of the season due to his foot injury that happened last season, so Bell, who rushed for over 1,ooo yards for Denver, would like receive the bulk of the rushes next season. Not to mention the Bronco's now have argubly the best duo at cornerback with defensive player of the year runner up, Champ Bailey and now with the addition of Dre' Bly. A lot of teams are going to find it quite hard to launch a successful passing attack against the already stout defense of the Broncos.Denver- CB Dre' BlyDetroit- RB Tatum Bell Read more:Breaking

He was just wasn't the same this year and he struggled. Big Ben threw for 3,513 yards, 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Another big question coming into last season was the running game. The Steelers
had relied on Jerome Bettis for short yardage and goal line attempts but with the "Bus" retiring before the start of the season, a lot of people had their doubts whether or not Willie Parker would be able to be an every down type of player. Well, Parker proved that he could, rushing for 1,494 yards and 13 touchdowns. Pittsburgh

offense was down this season. Jake Delhomme took a huge step back missing 3 games and only throwing for 2,805 yards with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. A lot of people had the Panthers as the Super Bowl favorites but with a lack luster running game and and sub par passing game, not to mention injuries on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, the Panthers were just mediocre overall. Although the passing game wasn't very good, Steve Smith had a great season once again despite missing the first two games of the season. He caught 83 balls for 1,166 yards and 8 touchdowns. Keyshawn Johnson also didn't have that bad of a season with 70 receptions for 815 yards and 4 touchdowns. The running game at times was good but for the most part neither DeShaun Foster nor DeAngelo Will
No, that's not awkward at all. 2007-03-04 04:08:00 It seems as though the Syracuse Orange have punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a convincing win over #10 Georgetown Monday. Cuse defeated the Hoyas,72-58, to notch their 21st win of the season. Big East POTY candidate, Demetris Nichols(seen in the pic to my left, the one being held ever so closely) led the Orange once again in scoring with 22 points, he also had 4 steals and 3 rebounds. It also was only the Orange's second win in six games against ranked teams, but this one halted an 11-game winning streak by the Big East's first-place team, and that spoke volumes."Two weeks ago, we didn't deserve to be in (the NCAA tournament)," Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said after his 747th career victory, 13th all-time in Division I and one more than Phog Allen. "I'm proud of my kids. This game was the culmination. We knew five games ago we had to win and play well. The seniors deserve a lot of credit. This was our best game."Now on to the picture above. Forbes ranks the GM's 2007-03-05 23:48:00 What do you get when you fail to surround your once in a generation superstar (Kevin Garnett) with a supporting cast and end up falling flat on your face every time the play-offs come around? Well, you get named as the best GM in sports.Forbes
came out with a list ranking the top General Managers in sports and Timberwolves GM Kevin McHale got the top spot for some reason. The argument is that the Timberwolves have made the play-offs 8 times and have had a .539 winning percentage under McHale's watch.Well, I'm just going to keep it simple here. If you were starting an NBA Franchise, or you had a choice of any current GM in the NBA to run your team, would you pick McHale? No, probably not.Another bizarre entry is the Sixers' Billy King at number 3. Another man who failed to surround his superstar (Iversen) with sufficient talent, causing him to get so frustrated that he demanded a trade out of Philly. The Sixers outlook is as bleak as this wasteland yet King cracks the top 3. Wonderfu
Not the way I imagined free agency to kick off 2007-03-05 23:47:00 With needs at offensive line, linebacker, defensive back and also at wide-receiver, I was hoping that the Phins would make some sort of splash on the free agent market but so far it's been one big letdown after another, much like my childhood.Eric Steinbach went to Cleveland, Chris Kris Dielman opted to stay in San Diego, Derrick Dockery is now a Bill and Leonard Davis will soon be blocking for Drew Bledose Tony Romo.Nate Clements singed a deal with the 'Niners in which he'll have to cover most of the Western Hemisphere to justify those dollars. San Fran also inked former Eagle Michael Lewis and Fred Smoot returns to the old stomping ground in Washington. As for the linebackers, Adalius Thomas will get to rundown whoever starts at quarterback for us as a member of the Patriots. Yay, I finally won something 2007-03-05 23:46:00 Jamie Mottram and Dan Shanoff have put together a list of the top-20 most influential sports bloggers on the internet and it's safe to say that I'll never even come close to that list. But don't feel too bad for me, I did manage to win one award. Yes, I won the award for "most worthless sports blog". Here's what was said about yours truly.Davey, Blown Coverage : Simply put, this is the worst sports blog on the entire web. It doesn't even deserve to be called a "sports blog". A drunken sea otter with a computer and internet access can churn out something
better than Davey produces.Davey's posts are never funny, rarely informative and usually just end up making you dizzy and confused. But that's only if you actually make it through an entire post, which no one has ever done. That's what happens when you only make anus jokes and post dumb pictures. The blog gets about 300 hits in an entire month and 270 of those hits are random google searches of poor unsuspecting souls that end u
Joey Porter is a Dolphin.... 2007-03-07 03:12:00 After I nagged about the fact that Miami didn't sign any big name free-agents yet, they went out and signed Joey Porter

Unnecessary use of spandex -1 any hope of a tourney run-0 2007-03-08 02:50:00 For the third consecutive season, the Syracuse Orangemen have defeated my beloved UCONN Huskies in the Big East Tournament. Coming into the game on Tuesday afternoon, I had been aware that we had one chance and one chance only to make it to the NCAA Tournament and that would be an amazing run in the Big East Tourney and somehow make and upset unbelievable upset to win the whole damn thing. And of course, that didn't happen. The stupid spandex-wearing Orange defeated the Huskies, 78-65 thanks to dumb Demetris Nichols' 28 points and his "special friend", Eric Devendorf, and his equally dumb 19 points. What makes this loss even more unbearable(if at all possible) is once again we had the lead at half-time and we end up giving it away at the end. So yes, that was a bad way to end a bad season, what's that? We still have the NIT you say? Well maybe not, according to this site, we're on the bubble for even a NIT bid. How embarrassing would that be? Pretty damn if you ask me. I mean how ma Read more:tourney
Big Names getting Big Deals pt 3. (& trade rumors) 2007-03-08 02:49:00 Daniel Graham is getting paid by the Broncos. After Daniel Graham left the New England Patriots for more of a starting job and a bigger payday, well he has received both from the Denver Broncos. Late Tuesday night, the Broncos locked up the talented tight end with a 5-year $30 million and that includes $15 million in guaranteed money. Although Graham is very talented and is a good route runner and can be very useful in the redzone he hasn't had the "break-out" season quite yet. I am a fan of Graham and I think he will be great in Denver, because one of the biggest reason for him not having great numbers was the system he was in, in New England they run a two tight end system and sharing time with an unbelievable athlete like Ben Watson it's no wonder why he hasn't quite had his coming out party so to speak.Minnesota is hoping Bobby Wade can solve their receiving problems.Bobby Wade has been getting a lot of attention after entering free-agency and the Minnesota Vikings have locked up Read more:Names

Ladies and Gents, I present to you, The 2007-08 Super Bowl Champs... 2007-03-08 02:49:00 The NFL Fanhouse is reporting that the New England Patriots and Donte' Stallworth have agreed to a 6-year $32 million deal that would give the 25-year old wide receiver almost $12 million guaranteed. Although they did update with reports that the deal is premature.I had mentioned earlier that the Patriots were still desperately searching for the elusive "#1 receiver" and if this deal has legs, they may have just found him. Although Stallworth only played in 12 games last season, he racked up 725 yards on just 38 receptions, 5 touchdowns and an impressive average of 19.1 per catch. Meaning he is a HUGE big play threat and if he can stay healthy he can be an All-Pro wide out and then add Tom Brady in the mix, the Patriots are going to be awfully hard to beat, no matter what Davey says. The New England Patriots have been very busy during the past week, here's their moves.Added:1. The Patriots and Wes Welker agree to a deal. 2007-03-08 02:48:00 Newly acquired widereceiver, Wes Welker has agreed to a 5-year $18.1 million deal that includes a $9 million signing bonus with New England. Welker was acquired via trade yesterday from the Miami Dolphins for the Patriots
2007 2nd round and 7th round picks.Welker is a fantastic return man, one of the best in the NFL in fact and last year he emerged as a viable pass catching threat as he caught 67 balls for 687 yards and 1 touchdown. Welker also added 1,064 kick return yards and another 378 on punt returns. He will add depth to a depleted receiving core in New England that had to rely on guys such as Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell to make their playoff run. Welker isn't the #1 option that the Patriots still seek but he is someone that can stretch the field, provide a deep threat that the Patriots don't currently have and take over returning duties for rookie Laurence Maroney so he can focus on becoming the premiere runningback in New England.
Big Names getting Big Deals pt.3. 2007-03-08 02:47:00 After the Broncos trade Tatum Bell, they sign runningback Travis Henry. The Denver Broncos are going to try something new this season. Instead of taking a random runningback and turn him into a 1000 yard rusher, they are going to sign a known 1000 yard rusher and see what happens. After they traded starter, Tatum Bell to the Lions, the Broncos had a bit of a hole at RB, a hole that will be filled quite nicely by Henry. The deal is reportedly a 5-year deal that includes $12 million guaranteed. The New York Jets rape the Bears of their starting runningback. In a shocking move Monday, the Chicago Bears agreed to trade Thomas Jones and their 2nd round pick(63rd overall) to the Jets in exchange for one of their 2nd round draft picks(37th overall). Jones was frustrated when Cedric Benson started receiving more and more carries as the season went along. That prompted the 1,210 back to request a trade as soon as the offseason started. Duke and North Carolina, Blue blood? I think not. 2007-03-08 02:46:00 I think
it's safe to say no matter how much you love your team and no matter how high a player's loyalty is to their team, they don't actually "bleed" their team's colors. Hate to break it to you, but I don't believe Sandy Koufax bled "Dodger Blue" and I certainly don't bleed Atlanta Brave red...well technically I do bleed red...but you know what I mean. Anyways if we learned anything from Sunday's Duke-Carolina
game it is Tyler Hansbrough doesn't bleed Carolina Blue.Tyler Hansbrough received a bloody nose at the hands of Duke guard, Gerald Henderson. With just 14 seconds left of a North
Carolina, 86-72 win, when Bobby Frasor missed a free-throw, Tyler Hansbrough went up to retrieve the rebound and when he came down, Gerald Henderson's forearm landed right on the bridge of Hansbrough's nose splitting it open. Hansbrough landed hard onto the ground and covered his face, when he stood up blood was pouring from the gash and Hansbrough was fuming. He was desperately trying to fig Read more:North Carolina

Green Bay Packers (8-8) 2007-03-08 02:46:00 2006 season: 8-8Head Coach: Mike McCathyOffensive Coordinator: Joe PhilbinDefensive Coordinator: Bob SandersPro-Bowl: Donald Driver (WR) and Aaron Kampman (DE).OffenseThe Green
Bay packers were one of those up and coming teams due in part to their offense. Brett Favre snapped back from a miserable season last year when he threw a career high 29 interceptions. This year Favre threw for 3,885 yards, 18 touchdowns and just 18 interceptions. Although they aren't stellar numbers they were significantly better than last year. The Packers
only real problem on offense was their mediocre running game. Ahman Green bounced back from an injury plagued 2005 season and started 14 games. He rushed for 1,059 yards and 5 touchdowns. Donald Driver had another great season, making 92 receptions for 1,295 yards and 8 touchdowns and capped it off by being selected to the Pro-Bowl. Are the Patritots intrested in dealing with the Seahawks again? 2007-03-08 02:45:00 According to the Boston Globe the Patriots are reportedly very interested in acquiring the services of Seattle wide receiver, Darrell Jackson. Last year, the Patriots sent disgruntled wide receiver, Deon Branch to the Seahawks
in exchange for Seattle's 2007 first round draft pick.Despite missing the final three games of the season last year, Darrell Jackson still made 63 catches for 956 yards and 10 touchdowns. Just for a little comparison, the leading receiver for the Patriots last season was Reche Caldwell, who had 61 receptions for 760 yards and 4 touchdowns. Jackson would be a huge upgrade over the pass catchers that are currently in Boston right now. New England went the entire season without a #1 receiver and still made it to the AFC Championship game, which they lost for among other reasons because their WR kept dropping balls. With possibly adding Darrell Jackson and them already signing Adalius Thomas this offseason and not to mention their two 1st round picks in this year's
Big Names getting Big Deals pt. 2. 2007-03-08 02:45:00 Dallas adds size and strength to their offensive line. The Dallas Cowboys and offensive lineman Leonard Davis agreed to a deal worth $50 million over the next 7-years and would give Davis $18 million guaranteed. The offensive line was one of the Cowboy's biggest problem area coming into the offseason and adding the former #2 overall pick in 2001 will surely help keep Tony Romo on his feet. It still isn't known which position Davis will be playing in 2007, but whether it be a tackle or a guard.
