Pointless Drivel 2007-07-15 19:30:00 Pointless Drivel tied The Reasonable Ego for the top score so far. Pointless Drivel seems to be one of those blogs that people love or hate. Most of our reviewers loved it, but there were enough haters to keep Mr. Fabulous from running away with the Humor-Blogs crown. Quasimofo / Mattress Police 2007-07-12 11:32:00 One of the problems with running a blog review website as well as my personal blog is that there's no way to get an objective review of my own blog. If I were to put my blog up for review, I would have no way of being certain that the resentful gripers would be balanced out by fawning sycophants. But if I were to refuse to have my blog reviewed, I would be subject to the charge that I, like Steven Seagal, am above the law. Besides, I want constructive criticism (and potentially an improved ranking) as much as anyone. What to do?My admittedly imperfect solution was to create an anonymous blog called Quasimofo, populated with older posts from my MattressPolice
site. I apologize for the subterfuge, but it was the best idea I could come up with. And don't worry -- I've set up the review editing interface so that I can't see who submitted which reviews. The review process is still completely anonymous. So I have no way of wreaking vengeance on whoever said I am "desperate for a

. The site's great name and clever logo had several of our reviewers laughing right off the bat, but the consensus seemed to be that the content didn't quite live up to expectations. As one reviewer noted, "Too much reliance on other blogs/sites work and not enough original content... Too much clutter and confusion." The Ominous Comma 2007-07-08 18:27:00 The Ominous Comma was another big hit with our reviewers. Other than a few quibbles with the template and the highbrow nature of the site, there were very few negative comments. One reviewer summed it up thusly (to use an appropriately highbrow word):"I probably spent as much time at this blog as at any of the ones I have reviewed. This is dry, subtle humor, but there's a lot of it there. Dr. Toboggans and Mr. Fording made me laugh a lot. The fake news stories were OK, but no better than any of the 5 other blogs that also do fake news stories that have been reviewed. My favorite part was the Consumer Commentary...very funny and insightful. I like the menu and the fact that you can find the topic you are interested in reading. Quite diverse, with a lot of talent in all of the areas. Nice blog!" Crummy Church Signs 2007-07-05 11:22:00 On balance, our reviewers were positive about Crummy Church
Signs, although they were clearly divided into two camps: those who found a regular dose of crumminess addicting, and those who felt it was a "one trick pony." I'll admit to being firmly in the former camp. One reader noted that "at some point we've seen 'em all," but as someone who has been reading CCS regularly for almost a year, I'm constantly astounded by the new depths of crumminess that Joel plumbs. That isn't to say the site is for everybody. Judging from the comments, I think it helps to have strong opinions about religion, positive or negative. In many cases the "crumminess" of the signs comes from the perpetrators being ignorant of their own doctrine, or trying lamely to latch onto some pop culture fad (usually about ten years late). If that doesn't strike you as funny, you're probably not going to like this site much.As one reviewer notes:"If you've ever passed by a church sign, read the slogan-of-the-

Some found the site too busy, and a couple of reviewers complained about an excessive use of the word "shit," but generally the reviewers found Bossy to be intelligent and amusing. One reviewer pretty much summed up the general impression: "This upbeat creative blog is a kick. History lessons on Korea, chats on Paula Abdul, the essential pictures of Paris Hilton -- it is all here. Not feminist, per se. More an appeal to women (young women, I think) who just want to hang out and hang loose with a fun blogger and friends. My advice to the blogger: Work on the web design a bit. The first few paragraphs explaining your blog were tough to get through and would bore most readers. This should be a sidebar. Conservathink 2007-06-27 22:57:00 Conservathink is the first overtly political blog to be reviewed by the humor-blogs.com reviewers and, well, it did okay. Not great, but ok. Davezilla 2007-06-26 01:23:00 Most of our reviewers were impressed by Davezilla's clever, accessible humor style. As one reviewer noted, "I think in the context of the blog being a quick fix and not one with humor writing, it's a good one. This is the kind of blog that is about the writer and readers being interactive with the entries. I would add this to my favorites." A few reviewers remarked that Davezilla relies too heavily on links and material borrowed from other sources, but most said they would be back. As proof of the theory that you can't please everyone, Davezilla got dinged for doing exactly the opposite of what some reviewers didn't like about The Reasonable Ego: posting short items without a lot of commentary. Ironically, however, I think my affiliation with Central Snark may have done it more harm than good. I and the other two long-time contributors to Central Snark recused ourselves from rating Central Snark -- and without violating the Humor-Blogs.com anonymity policy, I'll just say that the three of us are probably some of the more generous reviewers. Dan's Blah Blah Blog 2007-06-03 15:24:00 Dan's Blah Blah Blog garnered mostly positive reviews, if not a lot of overwhelmingly enthusiastic endorsements. The reviewers were mostly in agreement that Dan has a friendly, easy-going writing style, but several of them mentioned that it seemed like he was trying too hard to be funny. The reviewers were also turned off by the length of posts and the need to click an extra link to read the full post. Several remarked on the virtually unprecendent number of comments Dan gets on each post. As one reviewer wrote, "I didn't know there were 300+ people on the internet, let alone 300+ people that would comment on one blog. Is he as funny as his readership indicates? Probably not, but Jerry Seinfeld doesn't deserve 300+ comments per post either." Dan's infrequent and somewhat irregular posting schedule also hurt him a little. Copacetic City 2007-06-03 12:16:00 Our reviewers were mostly positive about Copacetic City, though several of them weren't sure it really qualified as a humor blog. His writing style was warm and easy and I liked him right away. His blog seemed to be a charming place to come back to." An impressive 50% of the reviewers were charmed enough by Jim's adventures with his cat Spaz and his brain tumor Spike to come back to Copacetic City regularly.A few reviewers were turned off by the cat blogging, and some of them weren't sure what to make of the brain tumor "device." Several reviewers found the requests for donations off-putting, while others mentioned feeling bad about giving a bad review to a guy with a brain tumor. Overall, however, Spike was a hit. As one reviewer stated, "This blog is well written, pretty well created and obviously a work that reflects the good intentions and passion of the writer. Sadly, to me at least, limericks are the lowest form of humor know to humankind, and that ruins it for me."
